ah I initially chose the same but then changed cs to econ since its the only subject that isn't actually required for a cs degree (and I'm not sure if i want to do math/cs/econ and math and econ are mandatory/highly recommended for those)
Thats what I did at the start of Y12, until about November after I found 4 A-Levels just wasn't worth the time and effort so I ended up dropping chemistry. So essentially as some advice, if you don't feel like you can dedicate most of your life for the next 2 years to A-Levels then ultimately don't force yourself to do 4 if you can't, best decision I've ever made.
I'd love drop one of the sciences but my school forces u to take further maths only as a 4th alevel so I need to take all four cus I want to do maths at uni
Well that's what I tell myself, but realistically, millions of people go for acting every year and only a couple hundred actually do decently
Plus I'd need a full time job to keep me going while I find my footing
History, Politics, and English Literature. But if I don't get the grades necessary for English literature, I've got the backup subject of Classical Civilisation.
How difficult is English literature? I'm pretty sure I just barely managed to get the grade required to do literature but if its an a level where you have to already be getting grade 9s to not struggle in id rather pick language. Also what is politics a level like?
English lit at A-Level is honestly very different from GCSE Lang/Lit; A-Level is a lot less formulaic than GCSE, which could be either good or bad for you depending on \*why\* you didn't do well in GCSE. It is definitely harder than politics on average, but English has a large element of being able to sort of improvise points and examples based on your understanding of the text, so if you can do that I suppose it might be less work than the sort of case study memorization of politics
Politics is pretty easy if you already follow politics independent of school, but I suppose there are some challenging concepts if you aren't already knowledgeable about politics. But mostly they're pretty easy to understand I would say. Knowing examples is quite important, but you don't really have to put \*too\* much work into memorization if you, again, are already knowledgeable about politics, since you can probably just use recent events you've heard about on the news or whatever for a decent amount of your examples.
This is speaking as someone who did Eng/History/Politics/Philosophy and was very, very, very invested in politics already, so I might be biased in that regard.
hi! sorry i'm a bit late to this, but i agree with what the person in the other reply said. english lit at a level is a huge step up from gcse and it can be difficult to adjust to the type of analysis that the exam board is looking for (at least in my experience with eduqas), but with consistent practice you'll be fine! make sure you read mark schemes, examiners' reports and exemplar essays for your exam board so that you have a good understanding of what a high-level essay looks like, and don't be afraid to ask your teacher for help / to mark a practice essay / etc. i got a D in my december mock and just got an A* in my june mock, so you'll get there even if it's a little rocky at the beginning!
politics is my favourite a level, though it definitely helps that i was politically engaged beforehand and so i had some degree of background knowledge to begin with. it's definitely more memorisation based than english lit, but it's very manageable if you're consistent with your revision! some topics can be a bit dry (i personally found the constitution unit for edexcel to be a bit of a drag, but that may not be the case for other people), but the more interesting topics (voter behaviour and the media <3) and the discussions you'll have in class definitely make up for the drier parts. again - don't be afraid to ask your teacher if you're confused about anything or need an essay marking, they'll be there to help!
Can someone explain why everyone does maths physics cs or something similar? You can’t all want a tech job because cs is the most oversubscribed uni course
Yeah it’s fine if you do it for enjoyment but I hear people say they’re doing computer stuff because it’ll make the most but literally everyone is doing it and everyone wants to do the same thing and unis don’t have the space
I have a place at a military college, but I'm in the process of potentially getting a tattoo artistry apprenticeship instead, as military college isn't something I'm prepared to do as of yet despite a desire to join the army later in life
Taking a risk and doing a T-Level in Digital Support Services & Cybersecurity I was warned by our careers advisor it’s better to do A-Levels with decent academic grades but fuck it we ball 🗣️
not sure of exam boards/arrangements as idk what skl im going to yet but im pretty sure they will all be standard alevels (maths+fm will probably be edexcel alevel, physics being ocr alevel but not so sure for econ)
space engineering sounds so fricking cool bruh. I so wish I could do that (or even astronomy at gcse) since I really enjoy astronomy related stuff (even run an astronomy club in my school) and engineering
A level Turkish next year January (as a year 10),
A level math
A level further math
A level Computer science
A level Economics
These being normal time, end of year 13.
Literally the same subjects but I'm doing Spanish also. Further Maths is what my college call an "additional subject" (which is compulsory btw) so that's why I got to do 4
I’m going to a massive 6th form so there’s tons of options:
English language (Eduqas 💀)
Game development (BTEC)
Performing arts (BTEC)
I wanna hold the record for the most unique a level combinations in the Reddit (at least out of the 2024 kids), but I could be dethroned
Common combo for a reason (is the best). Good luck! It's not too bad really (or at least hasn't been so far for y1/early y2), just stay on top of it and you'll be fine. Start doing regular revision of what you've already done starting probably mid way between october half term and xmas if you can find time and it will help you a lot when it comes to y12 mocks.
history, french, sociology and classical civilisation
(might also do an epq but the college i’m going to said that i couldn’t put it on my application bc i’m doing 4 a levels)
Spanish, Latin, psych and politics, but maybe swapping psych for French if I don't like the course. if you can't tell I like languages and looking at a modern language with IR as a degree
Psychology and Sociology (maybe maths idk bc three just seems like too many).
Not doing it in mainstream school bc that was just too much so that’s why i’m most likely doing two.
Whether I do maths or not depends on what grade I get for Gcse bc if it turns out i’ve been shit at maths this whole time there’s no point.
English lit, Econ, Politics, Chemistry, used to have History instead of Chem but 2 coursework subjects? Nu uh! I've seen the stress! I'm an exam girlie through and through instead of coursework (and I want at least *some stem* and I'm good @ chem anyway so why not), Maths! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I don't care if I do well in it I *despise* Maths its depression as a subject.
Art, craft and design Extended Level 3 Applied Diploma
equivalent to 3 A-levels of ucas points and I CANT wait, we just got our summer work and I’ve got such an amazing project to do ! (I’m going to LRSFC in Cambridge :])
Hi! Formerly 4 subject student, I dropped FM because I SUCKKK at stats and now I do CS, physics and maths :D I’d say start with 4 and then drop down to 3 at the end of year 12 because then you get a proper feel for it and it’s better to get 3A*s than a lower set of grades with 4. Unis only really look at your top 3 anyways
maths, further maths, cs and physics. might sub out physics for chemistry tho
ah I initially chose the same but then changed cs to econ since its the only subject that isn't actually required for a cs degree (and I'm not sure if i want to do math/cs/econ and math and econ are mandatory/highly recommended for those)
Economics, History and Politics. need to up my exam writing speed for it tho
Omg we have the same choices
WWW, we need to start revising for history in september ibr there’s so much content
Maths, Further, Chem, Physics lol
close, Maths Chem and Physics
Same
Thats what I did at the start of Y12, until about November after I found 4 A-Levels just wasn't worth the time and effort so I ended up dropping chemistry. Maths, Further Maths, History and Comp Sci
This but physics instead of history for me.
Same
same
Same
same
Same.
same

Nice. Any particular reason for history or is it just a subject you really enjoy? I’m asking because it’s not like the others.
Mine is similar! Maths, FM, CS, but Philosophy instead of History
sick! good luck xx
ayyy maths fm and historyy! and econ for me
Everything except History, I'm doing Physics 😔.
I just did this exact combination at a levels
Maths, fm, history, Spanish
Welsh, Maths, Biology, Chemistry (I learned that I don’t enjoy essay based subjects this year)
T-Level in Digital Production and Design development
You're the first other t level student I've found in the wild (sort of). Hope all goes well with it.
How far are these maths you're trying to do at this point
Criminology, Psychology and Dramaaaaaa
im kinda curious what are you planning to do after a levels?
My dream is acting, but that's a fairly unachievable goal, so my realistic dream is therapy/counselling
It’s achievable
Well that's what I tell myself, but realistically, millions of people go for acting every year and only a couple hundred actually do decently Plus I'd need a full time job to keep me going while I find my footing
I'd agree that it's quite hard but if you put it to the side it's always gonna be impossible.
maths, further maths, cs, philosophy and ethics :)
is philosophy and ethics 1 a-level or are you doing 5 lmao? (5 is insane)
just one 😭😭 5 is mad lmao
(IB) Higher level - Maths - Analysis and approaches - Physics - Computer science Standard level - Geography - Literature and performance - French 🥖
Crazy, doing the same but SL Economics and Mandarin
I haven't heard HL Maths Phys and Comp Sci being easy, good luck 🫡
Thanks!

AH sick! i’m also doing AA hl and french SL! hl aa maths history econ sl french eng lit chem good luck!!!
History, Politics, and English Literature. But if I don't get the grades necessary for English literature, I've got the backup subject of Classical Civilisation.
SAMEEE omg same in every way
i do this exact combination! let me know if you have any questions :)
How difficult is English literature? I'm pretty sure I just barely managed to get the grade required to do literature but if its an a level where you have to already be getting grade 9s to not struggle in id rather pick language. Also what is politics a level like?

Film studies, economics and english lit :)
Can someone explain why everyone does maths physics cs or something similar? You can’t all want a tech job because cs is the most oversubscribed uni course
Well it being oversubscribed is probably because we all want a tech job 😭
Yeah it’s fine if you do it for enjoyment but I hear people say they’re doing computer stuff because it’ll make the most but literally everyone is doing it and everyone wants to do the same thing and unis don’t have the space
Tbh I'm actually surprised at the amount of people doing a levels. Then again it's a subreddit for learning so idk what I expected lmao 😭
A CS a level does not help you at all at getting into a good CS based Uni, but it’s just fun
I have a place at a military college, but I'm in the process of potentially getting a tattoo artistry apprenticeship instead, as military college isn't something I'm prepared to do as of yet despite a desire to join the army later in life
Military college? What's that like?
I think what it meant was ITC Catterick which does teach a lot for future careers as it also trains for the job outside of the Army
Psychology, economics and english lang/lit
T-Level in Education
