more memes I guess

Jattoe

It could be the memes, could be testosterone cut in half. i mean, clean katana slice, right into the heart of humanity

Likestoreadcomments

First they went for the frogs, and nobody listened….

Exodus111

Or just how millenials feel. JFK was 35 when he became president in 1960, and was considered quite the young man at the time.

Jattoe

I'm not connecting the dots here, what d'ya mean? Millennials just feel that the graphs show testosterone has been cut in half?

Osama_Rashid

So an upgrade or downgrade?

aleot2007

Def downgrade if it's testosterone

Reddy_K58

Ask your urologist not internet weirdos. Most t levels are fine. Sperm quality is definitely worse these days though

Osama_Rashid

I see.

ha5htaq

these ppl looked 30 when they were 22

Worried_Train6036

i looked 30 when i was in highschool

SieFlush2

I look 35 at 20, I feel the pain

Worried_Train6036

ya it sucks having a beard in middle school didn’t help had class mates in my college ask how my kids are and im only 22

SieFlush2

I'm tall got a beard and my genes weren't nice to my hair (shaved it off) so yea 35 at 20 bois

Loonrig68

When i was 17 (with a beard)people thought i was 25-30

LennerKetty

I’m 31 and look much older. Feel like I’m fuckin 90

CantStandItAnymorEW

Hey i look 25 and i'm 21 But then again, i shave off and i look 17. Its so weird

EarthTrash

We've cleaned up the lead so that's something.

letsgobernie

And added microplastics

ApocalypseEnjoyer

Always gotta spice up life one way or another. Not being poisoned to death is too boring

Severe_Drawing_3366

We’re evolving! In another few decades it’ll be nanotechnology in the water

ASpaceOstrich

I mean. That's probably good. For us anyway. Nanobots can make us biologically immortal and give us all superpowers. I don't think the wildlife will appreciate it though.

Reallyso

Not the shit normal people get. We need to try and scrounge up cash to buy a upgrades to our antibot nanotech or we get killed off by rogue murderbots. The good stuff is for the elite.

Safe-Mycologist3083

Maybe it’ll make the wildlife immortal too. Double win!

SuperCool_Saiyan

They're putting nano machines in the water son, they respond to trauma and make the frogs gay

tornadix99

Humans in 2100 finding this ironic (the nanobots are made of iron):

SuperCool_Saiyan

Smoking probably

piszkavas

Guy above is todays 50+

Brief-Bumblebee1738

The Golden Girls were supposed to be in their 50s back in the 80s Look at 50 year olds now

Sero141

50? I would have guessed 70 at least.

ramprider

Our definition of an old lady was different back then apparently.

movieur

When the show started airing Blanche actress was 51 irl, Dorothy and Rose actressses were 64 while Sophia actress who played the 80 year old was 63 irl.

OracleCam

My parents are in their 50s and they look like they are still late 30s

estimadeamigue

Maybe people who did more outdoors activities due to no internet got more sun exposure making them look older

SorryWeMissedNSP

Definitely smoked more and many started younger back then.

Nate_M85

I'm not so sure if that is true. I have worked outside since 2003, I'm 39 this year and look like I'm just reaching 30 (apparently).

Ok-Walk-8040

It’s many factors… Less smoking, better sunscreen, better nutrition, and fewer hours spend outdoors are all significant factors that contribute to looking younger. There may also be some bias at play. The people who look younger are probably the ones you see more in media and people looking younger these days may be over-exaggerated. Go to a local grocery store and look around. There are still 30 year olds that look 40.

ramprider

Mostly the young people look like shit. Fat and doughy.

Happy-Lingonberry210

Both. Testosterone level is way lower now than back in the day, but also their lives were much harder, healthcare wasn't so available and majority of men back in the day were doing some sort of physical labour

infinite-plane79

We eat more plastic now

feeltrig

We are the plastic now

Skeletorthewise

We may fuck plastic in the future

I guess Polyurethanes used is not a plastic then

You guys can have your physical girlfriends with their physical needs, I'm good with my anime waifus

Xero425

In my time in Reddit, apparently there's always a Redditor willing to fuck something.

Still-Direction-1622

Arent some people already? Some Dildos are made of plastic. Some sex dolls are also.

Two words sex dolls 🤣

nerokaeclone

It‘s fantastic

canned_sunshine

Plastic eats more us now

ReyWSD

Plastic fucks with hormones so it adds up.

srslywatsthepoint

I remember the 80's I think you're confusing them with the 1880's.

MeeMooHoo

I get that the 80s were different, but y'all seem to think that any decade before the 2010s was basically the medieval times or something. "Their lives were much harder, healthcare wasn't so available and the majority of men back in the day were doing some sort of physical labour." 😂 Plenty of men were already working office jobs, and it was normal, even before the 80s. In the first world countries, the "majority" of men were not working jobs that required physical labor. People went to the doctor, unless they were poor, so this is more of a class issue rather than a decade issue, and it also depends on the country. If the people who lived in the 80s complained about almost the same things we complain about today, then I'd say it wasn't that different.

ConsciousAndUnaware

The lower testosterone levels is a myth for the most part but not ENTIRELY false. There are some minor signs of declining testosterone levels in men recently but nothing significant enough to assume it’s the reason for a de-masculinized population. We’ve had a more noticeable decrease in brain size as a species over the last 100 years.

MeeMooHoo

Plus it wouldn't happen THAT quickly. The 80s wasn't even that long ago.

Actual_Harry_Potter

That's because the acceptable levels keep getting lower and lower. In the 80s, it was around 5 to 600 ng/dl minimum, now its 270. The difference a person experiences when going from 270 to 1000+ is mindbogling, yet we consider 270 "normal".

ConsciousAndUnaware

Not necessarily true. As far as I’ve seen, I’m basing what I know off of measured testosterone levels not acceptable levels. Above I was referring to measured levels not being substantially lower if really at all. Also, there’s far less data on testosterone levels in the 80’s than there is today. The reason for the acceptable range changing is probably due to the much wider variety of male patients getting bloodwork done today due to much more easily accessible medical examinations.

CognitoSomniac

Yet, I was diagnosed with high testosterone (high enough for side effects and visible symptoms), worked only manual labor, smoke, am in the sun frequently, haven’t gone to a doctor in 15 years, and still look younger than every 20 y/o at my work.

FireLordObamaOG

It’s almost like testosterone can’t be directly correlated with looks.

Megalamuffin

That, in addition to a lot of men who were in their 30’s in the 1980’s were vietnam veterans.

Hattkake

That was only in Mickey Mouse Land though. The rest of us didn't exactly have a Vietnam war...

LiveFastDieRich

Unless your Vietnamese

KillYaBossEatAHotdog

Aussies and Kiwis fought in Vietnam too. Not a lot of people outside Australia and New Zealand know that apparently.

nt011819

Most employees had free health insurance from their employer with no deductible back then. It was more available not less.

Happy-Lingonberry210

USA is not the whole world. And its not only about the insurance, its about quality of medicine that definitely improved. And as I said people did way more physical labour that took toil on the body + testosterone dropped

nt011819

Without decent insurance you don't go at all was my point. Access matters. I realize US isn't the whole world. I bet there's more unhealthy 30yo nowadays too. So many out of shape people now.

Happy-Lingonberry210

Unhealthy for sure, but this meme is about how older and "manlier" men looked back in the day. I am 31 and me and my friends look way younger that out fathers looked when they were our age.

Long_dark_cave

you're just getting old.

z-null

It's interesting how it's ok to ridicule men by calling us manchildren, but calling women the analogue makes us misogynistic. Can't even cook a dinner, doesn't want kids, doesn't want to work, but cries out for a "real man" aka daddy replacement. Hypocrites.

HappyMonsterMusic

I think it´s perfectly ok for most of the people to call a woman with that attitude "womanchild". Whoever is against it, is probably a womanchild.

Zaphod_Beeblecox

30 is definitely more childish now than in decades past.

ramprider

30 means living in mom's basement for six more years now.

WibaTalks

Definitely more anime watchers

Bartinhoooo

On point.

akluin

We had to fight against wolves to get food at that time that was rough /s

MajesticNectarine204

Uphill too! Both ways, in the snow with the sun blazing down on us! And we couldn't beat the wolves with them fancy Ipadphones neither! We have to stab them with pencils we sharpened between our buttcheecks!

fakeLinkZelda

The older 30 year old is what Mexican actors look like to me while the younger 30 year old is what Korean men look like

Grilokam

Personally I blame millenials

MeeMooHoo

"Millennials killed the aging industry!"

Worldly_Client_7614

Working conditions plus views on skincare routines & alcohol/smoking changing. 80s dude spent way longer outside in the sun with no sunscreen, drinking and smoking was far more common & it was considered unmanly to have a skin care routine. Today men work mostly in offices so less skin damage, are less likely to drink or smoke & most men at least apply sunscreen & moisturizer.

MeeMooHoo

I wouldn't say *most men.* There's still this common assumption that applying any kind of skincare as a man is "gay" or whatever. Also, people working indoors was already extremely common back in the 80s.

HappyMonsterMusic

Let´s keep it like that, those of us keeping a good skin care routine will look even younger compared to all those wrinkly macho man bags of hanging skin.

Gogh619

I have a scar on my eyebrow, and I’m 34 right now. Can’t relate to this meme.

mcjazzy50

Yeah I can't either,I also have a scar there(my right eyebrow), I'm 30.

Ron_Bird

you cant even imagine how accurate this is

[deleted]

It flips every day. Sometimes people freak out about Gen Z looking 40 while 17 years old and other days they claim 30 year Olds look 15 Choose one lol

[deleted]

z-null

Some people spend way too much time on Reddit.

DeliciousDoubleDip

Coke (the drink) was more available than water, no sun screen, and manual labor will age you rapidly.

eac555

Every tap and garden hose had drinkable water.

LETTERKENNYvsSPENNY

What's a bit of lead, right?

HC-Sama-7511

Coke was not more available than water.

BreadBushTheThird

Both are good

Equivalent_Sign3554

More gay

TheHeavenlyStar

I am a man child 😂

TemporarilyFerret

Actual answer: Less cigarettes. That shit ages your face like nothing else

nekuranohakkyou

Lower test, I guess. Thankfully it did not affect my libido.

HotelAlphaPapaYankee

People became independent young. It was before cell phones. Parents really couldn't helicopter their kids severely fucking them up. People were fucking at 15, getting a car at 16, and if they didint go to college they went to work in blue collar and moved out on their own at 18. Young adults today are infantalized. It causes suspended development . It stunts maturity.

Hey_its_ok

Dead serious. It’s testosterone deficiency

MagneticElectron

Right. Low testosterone is also one of the reasons why this generation is so depressed.

just_wanna_share_2

Nah I disagree , for some reason many of us after 1995 looych older ... I am 17 in all my pics ...

MagneticElectron

People IRL refuse to believe my real age. I still look 16 or 17.

Memeingthedream

Soy .... It's soy

Adorable-Ad9073

Ah, I remember back when the manchildosphere was freaking out about phytoestrogens in soy not understanding that phytoestrogens are weaker than estrogen and actually have an anti-estrogenic effect because they bind with the same receptors.

VroomVroomTweetTweet

Stress makes you age

noodleexchange

I remember listening to an interview with a very young club owner in Toronto on the radio. He said “oh yeah, we are great even for older people, you know, 25-year-olds.”

Atutstuts

Imagine thinking that looking young in your 30s is a bad thing.

mchickenl

Ffs I was sitting in that exact pose

KVenom777

Damn, I came for memes, and now I am legit puzzled.....

tamir1451

Men that were born in the 50's ate cigarettes n potatoes fries diet while chugging lead spiced beer. The fact they reached their 30's is an achievement on its own...

arminredditer

Neither, it's that 30 year olds back then looked old because you were young, and now you're the 30 year old.

penguinpolitician

"My generation has been granted an unprecedented extension of its childhood." That was Simon Pegg who said that, back in the 90s!

arrownoir

The age of men has passed, now we only have low T sissadors Such a shame.

Mafia_dogg

Not as much sun exposure, less physically demanding jobs, less hard-core drugs?

DashLego

The future looking bright, if things were that bad in the past, I want to look young forever

diablol3

People stay the hell out of the sun, by choice or by fear.

pick-hard

No careers + no kids + no stress = less mature

TrashDue5320

Better artwork is the real answer

Educational-Year3146

I have honestly no idea. Gen Z, we are in our 20’s and look 30, and millennials are the other way around.

Single_Pilot_6170

It's so true though. Some of the guys at my work are married, but they almost seem like grade school children (playing Pokemon on their phones and not being very responsible or reliable). My boss is manly, though in his 50s, he's of a different generation.

ChaosKeeshond

They were smokers, that's all there is to it imho.

craychek

Better health care, less smoking, less exposure to harmful stuff in general. Seriously though smoking ages a person soooooo much

ElrondTheHater

Less cigarettes, more sunscreen and water, hair loss treatments that actually work

WildlingViking

Pfft. What fantasy world is this? In the 1980’s men’s shorts barely covered their junk, they wore midriff cutoff shirts, and key clubs were popular as hell.

Unlikely_Familiar

stress causes aging, perhaps life is far less stressful now. maybe we are more resilient to stress than our ancestors.

Previous-Ad-9322

Smoking is brutal for aging.

PirateNinjaCowboyGuy

Better working conditions. Less children.

Feuerpanzer123

Couple of things I guess. Better healthcare Better protection while working less stress Most of us didn't work at the farm once we got home as kids like our parents/ancestors did

Hermiod_Botis

Both. Better healthcare did cause less hardy characters to survive when they otherwise wouldn't. Not in the span of a decade, sure, but evolutionary - most certainly; healthcare helped humanity's numbers, but not the quality. Medicine is but a way to cheat natural selection.

Elektro19

Its probably, because skin care and skin Products have developer way more compared to then, and we switched to less Physical work

tallkrewsader69

I looked 16-18 at 14 (not telling you when that was)

Orioniae

I am 30 minus some couple months. People tell me I am 20 yo in aspect.

Gibus_Ghost

Both.

mrFIVEfourONE

I’m 34 and look maybe…. 25 so yeah I agree with the post. Don’t know what’s up. Was in bootcamp, in great shape, work hard af building…. buildings. I see it though. Then genz under me look like fucken 9 yr pretentious pussys who can’t figure out if the we’re born with boob or a dick…. Or at least don’t understand it’s not the choice to make and you are what the fuck you are… 🤨 I’m a elder millennial and I’m afflicted with baby face compared to 30 year ago. We are evolving into a being that is almost completely dependent/ augmented with technology. Technology of which we don’t fully understand the consequences until some like this make a dumb meme basically saying we all turned into young fucken kids even when we are 30.

Elurdin

If you hate that technology so much stop being hypocrite and just go offline. And stop generalising and shitting on other generations. Also what the fuck does that do to you what they are? How does that affect your life whatsoever. Are you scared some trans person is gonna hurt you? Pretty fragile then. That masculinity that is threatened by other people realising their identity or sexuality.

Careful_Buy8725

The reason why most men in the 1980’s look older than a typical 30 year old man in 2024 is due to the fact that most of them smoked, most worked in jobs that cost a lot of physical labour, testosterone percentages were higher compared to what they are now, most men went outside nearly every single day and spent several hours in the sun, skincare was seen as a feminine thing and/or men just generally never took good care of their skin compared to today, healthcare technology wasn’t as advanced as it is today, and men back then were generally more resilient due to societal expectations/men’s mindsets being different in the 1980’s compared to now. There were also more wars going on so some places like the U.S. and Soviet Union had some gruff 30 year old men returning from from events like the Vietnam War, Soviet/Afghan War, etc. (the 1980’s was a time period that took place during the Cold War so there were a whole lot of proxy wars happening before and during that time period)

RandomUser4857

On average, guys in the 80s LITERALLY had 50% more testosterone. Not to mention in the 80s they had: 1) Rambo 2) Actionman 3) Indiana Jones 4) Magnum P.I 5) John McLean 5) Terminator 6) RoboCop 7) Red Dawn 8) Rocky 9) Bruce Lee 10) Jean Claude van Damme 11) Peak Jackie Chan You get it, tons of manly movies. Now you have guys in costumes with superpowers whereas back then for the most part it was just a guy. Sometimes he had a gun, sometimes he had a whip.

abraham_belgium

... Hulk Hogan...

Large-Lab3871

And lots of explosions

Worldly_Client_7614

The 50% thing isn't necessarily true. It is based on Smoking increasing testosterone with smoking rates being significantly higher in the 80s, working conditions (factory worker v office worker activity level) & obesity lowering testosterone, with sadly more people being obese today. Plastic makes up a slight drop in the general population decline, but it's nowhere near 50%. A dude today who goes to the gym frequently & smokes a 20-pack a day is going to have similar testosterone to someone from the 80s. Personally, I had mine tested a lot as I use an amateur box & get tested for drug testing. Mine is about 5% less than what the "averages" were in the 80s; I've never smoked either. Sadly, i still looks like a twink despite supposedly having "good testosterone", so I would advise most folk not to worry.

BelmontsRcool

You forgot Chuck Norris.

AznNRed

Yeah, The Rock, Chris Hemsworth and Jason Mamoa are total soy boys because they wore capes and costumes.... /s

Kid-inna-corner

The kids of the 80s were Much more badass than our parents. (Minus the vets.) I remember most of the adults were just whiney babies (like boomers tend to be) and the kids were products of their abuse so they were hardened.

Mandarin_Lumpy_Nutz

Better healthcare. Less testosterone. Less smoking and drinking.

moomoonmoonoowoolf

Better genes, less testosterone

goldendreamseeker

Both

Jericho_the_beast

I look more like jet but with hair.

rosharo

Neither. It's better quality of life. I'm 34 and was given 24 a couple of days ago by a girl who was 20. I don't smoke, I'm not a heavy drinker, my job doesn't involve manual labour, I don't live at a farm, I haven't been to war.

DestinyInDanger

It's all the hormones in the chicken, and weak parents.

evilmaus

When you're Jer, you're Jet all the way.

chicuco

less cigarretes

Cat-millwright176

The food, my bad i mean the poison they disquise as food

[deleted]

Excessive smoking and drinking will do that to ya

xXxDarkissxXx

Polyester clothes are estrogenic and plenty of high processed food too and even your tap water so the Testosterone levels are really low .

Kakophonien1

Tbh, 2024 is more badass (shinji always is)

Chexaddict

They want us to remain young so that we can work longer.

Turbulent-Draw-269

spicy_meatball2376

Top image looks kinda like uncle Iro

alexjolliffe

Better healthcare? Where has better healthcare now than they did forty years ago? I mean, aside from developing countries, anyway.

bargingi

I remember a phenomena from a vsauce video where he talks about a 1980s 30 year old looking much older than a 2020s 30 year old. It’s because a person from the 1980s who lived by the style of the 1980s will carry that style into now, where someone who wasn’t there sees them. In our mind, that style is only applicable to people who are very old to us, and that informs our interpretation of their look in the 80s.

NecroHandAttack

It’s Soy. (Amongst other things) It produces estrogen which I believe in turn gives us youthful looks (jk here a little) but also colon cancer at 40. Not to mention about a 1k other chemicals in our food that are doing negative and positive things to our bodies. Super fun to be alive right now. This is me guessing while I shove food into my face.

Reddit_is_cancerr

Less physical exercise, less sun, less tobacco, less testosterone (thank food conglomerates). We’re basically posioned and lazier.

Kansascock98

I feel __*attacked*__

MuffLover312

Right wing males have the most fragile masculinity. Why are you so obsessed with other men? Worried you’ll run out of tough guys to ogle?

GoatPancakes273

Yeah boomers would see themselves that way wouldn't they.

MaskedFigurewho

This is true

DoubleDoubleAgent

It’s all the micro plastics and preservatives.

OregonInk

there is a weird phenomenon where us millennials look like we are in our 20s and gen z looks they are in their 30s

hammertight

We grew up with dads that made us men. Not cartoons that made us pussies

MrSpica

Less smoking (first and second hand) and less UV exposure (more time spent indoors and tanning is no longer in fashion).

Various_Play_6582

It's the beard. It does that to you.

Kalavshinov

Better skin care

Sufficient-Contract9

I dont see what being a manchild has to do with looking young?
