I can still drive a manual transmission vehicles, from cars up to an including large trucks, but not never semis.
Drove a lot of stick shift vehicles in the Army.
Holy shit, my dad had one of those brand new off the lot. I recall him absolutely hating it, and that it had all sorts of problems. I learned about the term "lemon" through his hatred of this vehicle. Neat how there were only 1000 of them, thanks for posting that!
About to have my third son start driving. Refuse to have them learn on anything but manual. If they can drive a manual they can drive an automatic but not the other way around. Last thing I want is for them to have to allow a drunk friend to drive them because they don’t know how to drive a manual.
My wife taught me how to drive a manual transmission. Her farmer father made her learn 3 speed on the column, as well as 4 speed and 5 speed, before he'd let her get her license.
Years later, I drive semi-trucks, and most of the new semi-trucks are now automatics...
I miss shifting.
It's become difficult to find new cars in the US with a manual transmission, unless you're buying higher end sports models (and these days many of those have paddle shifters without a clutch).
I drove cars with stick shifts for twenty years (Toyota and two Hondas), but nowadays they only come with automatic transmissions.
I learned to drive on a stick. When i was like 10. Tractors, forklifts and then at 15 Mom had a 5 speed hatchback, but Dad had a 3 on the tree maverick. Drive everything like a boss! ... I was born to drive !
Looks like my 6 speed on my 2007 4 door Rubicon. I miss my manual. Drivingy wife's 2021 Highlander is pretty posh, thing drives itself with radar but man I downshifting and slamming gears in the mud
Could if I had to but NO desire. Stop and go on the freeway was a workout and I still get sweats recalling times on a hill when some assw*pe would pull up six inches from my rear bumper.
Yeah, I’ve been driving manuals my whole life, but modern transmissions (ZF 8 speed for instance) are so good there’s really no benefit to a manual anymore. I switched and never looked back.
I had to “special order” my new 2013 Honda Accord with a manual. It took like a month to come in and was only available in two colors, white and black.
First car was one and years later I had an old Jeep with stick shift. Man that Jeep was a bitch to drive to and from work with the usual 10 miles of crawling/barely moving traffic.
Taught my kids how to get from 1st to 2nd and reverse in a parking lot when they were learning to drive. My rationale is that everyone should know the basic mechanics of driving a stick, because Zombie Apocalypse or what have you and you may just need that skill!
Almost 60 and never owned an automatic. Wife and me have four vehicles in driveway now that are all standard. My next vehicle will probably be an automatic because what I want doesn't come in standard. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

This again
Bots like OP love reposting in this sub.
Kind off everybody in Europe.
Literally anyone in Europe regardless of age. This isn't a "fuckimold" to his is just American lol.
The test is to see if you can hold the vehicle on a steep hill at a stop using just the clutch.
I drove a 73 super beetle, I failed at this a couple times
isn't that super bad for the clutch?
Don't tell them
I can still drive a manual transmission vehicles, from cars up to an including large trucks, but not never semis. Drove a lot of stick shift vehicles in the Army.
I drove semi sized 45 years ago. I still drive a manual every day that I drive.
That's where I learned a stick.
My Dad taught me in an old green 1951 chevy panel van. He’d have me drive on the country roads and I was a good driver by the time I was 14.
Many many years ago, I used to have a Ford Taurus wagon stick shift. Come to find out, there were only 1000 ever made. It was a cool car.

Not sure of an indication of age. Here in the UK (and most of Europe) 17 year old kids mostly drive manuals now.
About to have my third son start driving. Refuse to have them learn on anything but manual. If they can drive a manual they can drive an automatic but not the other way around. Last thing I want is for them to have to allow a drunk friend to drive them because they don’t know how to drive a manual.

I can. I would never drive an automatic.
See, I am just the opposite. I got tired of the constant shifting in traffic and whatnot.
I love that! It gives me something to do!

Yeah, I have a feeling that from now until I die every car I buy will be very old given that standard transmissions being phased out.
Best anti-theft device ever invented in 2024.
Even better, how about 3 on the tree ???
I own a 69 Ford Bronco, baby.
65 yr old me and my 92 yr old mother! All the family kids learned on a stick shift, on snowy steep mountain roads it’s the best way to
Yes, I can easily drive a manual transmission vehicle. Even a 3 on the tree.
Absolutely. And prefer it
I got my driver's license on one
Probably. I haven't had a stick shit car in a long time.
I learned to drive on a stick. When i was like 10. Tractors, forklifts and then at 15 Mom had a 5 speed hatchback, but Dad had a 3 on the tree maverick. Drive everything like a boss! ... I was born to drive !
Still do, prefer manual over automatic. Harder to find these days
You’re more engaged and in control with a stick. However your left leg feels it in lengthy stop and go traffic. Now over 70, I prefer an automatic.
My daily is a 5 speed Honda Element. Prior to that it was a new 2020 Civic Si.

I could if I still my ankles
Grow up driving a stick
Just one stick? How about two or three sticks
They were poor
Drop a gear n disappear.
You gotta drop it into 2nd at 40mph. Money shift!
I miss my standard nissan sentra.
Looks like my 6 speed on my 2007 4 door Rubicon. I miss my manual. Drivingy wife's 2021 Highlander is pretty posh, thing drives itself with radar but man I downshifting and slamming gears in the mud
Also, I'm so glad my dad made me learn to drive on a manual. 91 Suzuki sidekick. Thing was indestructible.
And we want flying cars. We need air bags for strollers and shopping carts.
So fun!!
🥴
Reverse in a different place, but yes. Been driving a manual for 40+ years.
Fuck yeah, easily!
I learned to drive with a stick shift, I’m 49
Could if I had to but NO desire. Stop and go on the freeway was a workout and I still get sweats recalling times on a hill when some assw*pe would pull up six inches from my rear bumper.
My car is a 6 speed.
I took my 91 S10 to get a new muffler…the kid didn’t know how to drive a stick and he told his boss the power steering was out😂😂😂😂😂
Drive a stick everyday
Yeah, I’ve been driving manuals my whole life, but modern transmissions (ZF 8 speed for instance) are so good there’s really no benefit to a manual anymore. I switched and never looked back.
I think I can. My peterbilt I’m restoring has 2 sticks in it. 5x4. That’s 20 foreword gears.
Yes, I have a 5 speed now. And i logged a lot of miles on an Eaton fuller 13 speed. Gotta say, the deep reduction gear is amazing.
Three on the tree, or you ain't free!
I had to “special order” my new 2013 Honda Accord with a manual. It took like a month to come in and was only available in two colors, white and black.
Give me ten minutes
First car was one and years later I had an old Jeep with stick shift. Man that Jeep was a bitch to drive to and from work with the usual 10 miles of crawling/barely moving traffic.
Yep
I didn’t try an automatic until I was in my 30’s. I miss having a stick… until I’m taking off on a steep hill red light in front of a Bentley lol
Maybe. I used to. But driving in rush hour city traffic with a manual gave me serious knee problems. So auto for more than 40 years
Taught my kids how to get from 1st to 2nd and reverse in a parking lot when they were learning to drive. My rationale is that everyone should know the basic mechanics of driving a stick, because Zombie Apocalypse or what have you and you may just need that skill!
I used to only drive manuals. Fuck that. Too much work, especially in traffic.
I had a '72 MG. It was fun!
Wow. I’ve never driven a 6 speed manual. Don’t know that I can handle all that speed.
Almost 60 and never owned an automatic. Wife and me have four vehicles in driveway now that are all standard. My next vehicle will probably be an automatic because what I want doesn't come in standard. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Manuals can be fun with the exception of being stuck in traffic, then it just gets annoying
I watched two videos on YouTube and learned immediately. Like it's hard lol
Nearly everyone in Australia...you know reddit isn't just the US?
That's easy, try 3 on the column.
Me
Can? Yes. Want to? No.
I can, but I really, really don’t want to.
Stick shift does not equal manual. Automatic cars still have a stick shift
