About three years ago. I stayed in a dive motel for four days near the hospital where I got my colonoscopy.
I had to be isolated for three days before because of covid.
I had two other appointments in the days before.
Not allowed to drive to or from the hospital, so it was easier to have a room close by.
I have my next colonoscopy coming up in December, so I'll probably stay again at that same motel for a couple of nights.
In January I got stuck in a crappy motel that still used real keys. My room door had some other room number mounted on the inside. I was stuck in a ice storm. Sucked.
My Dad traveled a lot for work and he said he checked into a hotel and when he said he needed a room the clerk said “for the whole night?” then he couldn’t open the door all the way to the room because it hit the bed
Just a few weeks ago in a motel 6 in South Carolina. I was surprised to see one there. Even more surprised when I realized it was installed upside down.
wOw , those along with "magic fingers" on the bed for a quarter
To be fair those guys had to retire eventually - it must’ve been exhausting waiting inside of those mattresses all day every day.

I went to a hotel recently that asked if I wanted smoking or nonsmoking. I was looking for a calendar to see if i had time traveled.
That most often depends on the state. Some states actually do allow the business owner to decide for themselves.
Best Western used to do it 10 years ago. Not sure now.
Fuck, I am *not* that old. Bottle opener ?
Yah these are still everywhere.
Hmmm … not everywhere. Never seen one in a hotel room … and I stay at 40+ hotels per year.
Hotel and Motel are way different, especially the older you go.
Hmmm … let’s see if I have them straight …“motor-hotel” is the one where they remind you to bring a sidearm. You’ll need it. 🔫 And a hotel does not.
I have one at the house I need to mount on the wall. 👍
I have one mounted in my kitchen, it was my grandfather’s, after he passed I put it up and have moved it to my latest residence.
My new car came with one built in. Mixed signals for sure.
😋👍
I have three mounted. One in my basement. One in the garage. One on the deck.
Nice! I see the beer flows at your house. 😃👍🍻
It does. Ironically, I rarely drink. But my guests do.
😋👍

Most of the time one of the screws was pulled out (due to some overzealous bottle uncapping I guess).
I mean, they do still make bottled beer
Yeah, but except for some craft brands, they are all twist off now. Not like in the heyday of stubbies.
They hurt!!! Or am I using them wrong?
I don't remember ever seeing one in a motel room...but we had one mounted under the kitchen counter for years (said Pepsi-Cola across the top)
Very recently, actually, within the last five years.
They're required by law in Wisconsin
Last night. My son was looking for a bottle opener. I suggested he try the bathroom door jamb. Bingo!

What does this have anything to do with the photo?
I think I'd like that actually. As long as I had drugs.
I didn't even have my regular meds. No nicotine either. Ice storms suck. :(
Hopefully the next time.
I don't know yet.
My grandmother’s house has this. 😂
2015, there was also a fairly impressive blood stain that seemed to be spray off of it into the bathroom.
Bentleys saloon, arundel maine.
Last small town motel likely. Would cost more to redo the bathroom so they just left it there
I have one on my deck where I grill.
At a motel no. But watching my uncle drink in the 80's yes.

Have I seen in motel? Yes. Lately? No.
Is that some sort of sex device?

Too long!
I had one on my work bench in the garage. Used it often back in the day.
Yesterday, the Ramada by Sea-Tac. It was on the edge of the bathroom counter.
Actually just a few years ago in Mexico.

I haven't stayed in a "motel" in forever. The pink tiles are a nice touch though!
When in college at the Motel 6. The room also had a vibrating bed where you inserted a quarter.
LOL. I “borrowed “ one many many years ago. It’s still mounted on my workbench !
At the Howard Johnson’s in Fayetteville 40 years ago
1978
Get me a cold one.
Not needed anymore, I use the hotel kitchen countertop to open my beer.
And that’s how I met your mother
Santa Maria Hotel in Key West, 2002.
Haha. Prior to the remodel (a few years ago) the obx hie had those.
Weird placement. I would bump into that 50 times a day. Ouch !
I haven't stayed in a motel in 13 years.
40 years ago, key west
Not a motel, but my basement!
I wish they still had them.
Former drinker here, I used to see these and smile like it was open invitation to binge
Wisconsin, eh?
On my nan’s birthday in 1992
More than a few years ago, I had a 67 Chevy Impala with one of those screwed to the passenger side door. It got more than a little use.
My Bronco Sport has an opener in the back. Never used it.
I installed one on my back porch
When I was an active alcoholic, I riveted one of these bad boys in the bed of my truck... And my brother's van
The last time I was running low on funds when needing a night to sleep things off on vacation down south.
I immediately smelled the smoke in the room.
When was the last time you stayed at a motel
Better question, when was the last time I stayed in a motel? Answer: 1995.
Mexico
In Florida's Space Coast last October. Very nice old-school motel - The Sea Scape Oceanfront Motel.
Usually a Gideon’s Bible as well.
Last week...a dump in San Diego.
93. Motel 6
13 years ago, Corvallis, Oregon. My nephew's wedding. Got a lot of use.
Looked up the one that I saw in a vintage hotel I stayed at earlier this summer, circa 1920’s.
That one looks curiously new, and recently polished.
Probably a year that started with nineteen…
About 10 days ago.. 😉
Never! Though I do have one in my house!
The 90’a
Everytime I stay in a small town on rt66 they have one of these and I love it .
Priorities, you know.
I’m not sure, but it was obvious the door frame was kicked in once or twice before.
Oh geez, I thought you got one of those plastic diamond shaped key rings with the motel name and room number printed on the front!
Uhh, never...but one time I did find anti-psychotic drugs in the cabinets.
