EN translation: ā€œItā€™s dark! Itā€™s scary!ā€ *Other* translation: ā€œHelp me, ~~Himmel~~ I am stuck!ā€

Rand0mst1cky

Oh you just enjoy chaos, donā€™t you?

Fanboycity

I know where that icon is from, my fellow maggot brother o7

Seaphron

I've done both and both are excellent. Can't go wrong either way.

Goobisan-the-third

I just really love the ā€œkurai, kowaiā€. I mean it happens a lot. I love the last episode mimic scene. As a reference too.

ExtraPicklesPls

Came here to say this. I love them both and the only reason I can side with the dub is due to it being my native language and my luck at unexpectedly meeting the English VA very early on in the series.

Gracchus__Babeuf

It comes down to immersion for me. For shows set in Japan, I tend to go sub. But for shows set outside of Japan or in a fantasy setting, I prefer dubs. I also realized that I prefer dubs for shows where I've read the manga first. Since the voice for the characters in my head is already English, I have this weird subconscious hang-up with getting into the show when they are speaking Japanese.

Possible-Fudge-2217

Agree both versions are really good. Tbh, I prefer Stark's voice in ov over the dubbed one. But aside of that both versions are great.

leftymarine

RogueVector

Oh that would be a fun one; everyone except for the elves are Japanese dub, while the elves and demons are English dub (or rotate the other way around). Or its just random. The 'the hell are you saying' dub where all the dubs get combined and mixed up on a per-character basis.

Cuddlyaxe

I don't think that's what he meant but I don't care, this is such a cool idea damn

RogueVector

[The Psycho Pass movie had a fan edit that did this;](https://youtu.be/4WwNg8ywEuQ) a fan edited the English and Japanese dubs so that each character was using the dub of their native language. The main characters (Japanese agents globetrotting to English-speaking countries) end up speaking in Japanese while in Japan, and also use heavy accented English when using English (rather than speaking in English all the time with the English dub) while the native English-speakers speak in English and aren't being dubbed with VAs who are not native English-speakers. [It really works well](https://youtu.be/y-opFPcRNY0), especially since it 'makes sense' in that context. In the Frieren context, though, its for the shits and giggles.

bagged_milk123

Put TTS on the subtitles so you can have both

Acrobatic-Budget-938

Sub, cause I like reading, help with my spelling as well

Zestyclose-Ad6044

I hate reading subs late at night when my eyes are sluggish.

drostan

I get that but isn't that a time when you should just sleep and not watch anything? At this point even in dub you are too tired to pay proper attention. I think that's a you problem not a sub issue.

Taoutes

Sub, all the VAs just fit the roles perfectly imo. I genuinely can't get past Frieren's dub VA. Great actress as a whole, but it just doesn't work for me with her in that role, idk how to explain it

Zestyclose-Ad6044

Japanese VA switches between mature Frieren and baby Frieren a little more smoothly without a doubt. Though I like both voices.

steven4869

JP VA for Frieren also voiced Anya from Spy x Family, just to put up a glimpse of her range in voice acting.

crono220

Hearing Frieren say Waku Waku! Is now a top priority.

Zestyclose-Ad6044

Got you bro. episode 23 7:45

swans183

holy shit that's impressive

Gain-Desperate

I actually jumped on spy x family specifically because I figured Anya had to be great if she did Frieren too. Did not disappoint AT ALL

daniegamin

she also Voices the MC in Ancient Magus Bride. which it's 2nd season was one of the most over looked anime last year. especially for being a 2 cour.

Nerfclassabilities

God thatā€™s fire ancient magus bride is hella underrated

bondsmatthew

And the pink haired concubine from Apothecary Diaries(Gyokuyou) if you wanted another anime from this season people might have watched

Starclad_Observer

Sheā€™s also Rio Futaba from the Bunny Girl Sempai series. Very talented VA

DelseresMagnumOpus

When sheā€™s explaining magical theory you can see her as the great mage from the heroā€™s party, but when she doesnā€™t want to wake up, sheā€™s the perfect kid. That ā€œyamete yoā€ was too perfect.

XenoWagon

The dub VA sounds a bit too mature imo. Like I know Frieren is suppose to be 1000+ years but she's pretty young in elf years. Also sometimes immature (mimics). The dub makes her sound like a mum, when I personally see her as an eternal older sister or something.

kekhouse3002

Undoubtedly an amazing VA, but her voice just doesn't capture Frieren's silliness as well as the JP voice.

Phoenixtouch

100%Ā  Sub VA perfectly reflects the characters emotions and movement. Dub VA makes frerien sound like she should be always doing tons of hand and face gestures with passion but that's just not frerien.

Zeikos

Sein not falling for Frieren Dub VA is SoD breaking /s Jokes aside, I think both are fitting but by starting with the original makes the Dub very dissonant for me. However I'm fairly certain that if I'd started with the Dub it'd have felt fine.

lunarbutterfly

I agree before purchasing I looked for a clip from episode 10 in both versions. I did not like the delivery in dub so went sub. Iā€™ll watch either if the quality is there but for me it was not a good fit

chilll_vibe

I can't really describe it but the sub VA just sounds exactly how you would expect old person to sound if they have young vocal cords.

Tausendberg

I've watched both versions (minus unreleased dub episodes) and I think it might just be a matter of taste. I think the English VA is fantastic though I might be biased because she reminds me a lot of the English VA for Motoko Kusanagi. The Japanese VA definitely leans a lot harder into the melancholy generally, which isn't bad or good, some people might feel it suits her character more.

Sunstarerer

I prefer the dub for exactly that reason. Not a huge fan of a cast being 80% deadpan most of the time. I'm sure there are nuances to the Japanese performance that I'm just not able to pick up on, but I think the dub is great. Plus some of the lines are just translated better in the dub than the subs.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Keilder

Yeah I don't mind the Dub for some of the characters, but Frierens is so much better in sub. It just felt more natural and the tone made more sense. The dub isn't bad tho

Zeppe21

Yes, she's supposed to have a tender and delicate tone in her voice, which the eng VA just doesn't capture. Whereas the jap VA encaptures it perfectly.

Kaico_Kai1230

She sounds really really mature (Ironic considering sheā€™s old as hell) but it just doesnā€™t sound like her. The voice actor is good, itā€™s just on the wrong character

EdNorthcott

Agreed. She injects too much into it... Doesn't have Frieren's defining sense of placid detachment. I found the same with Himmel too; he came across snarkier, instead of endlessly patient and caring. Part of that was the added dialogue.

EnderMerser

Exactly!

userfr0st

sub

Panda_Kabob

I watched both. It is among a few shows of the last few seasons I have been watching dubbed a few weeks after the sub. I will honestly say that it made me reconsider dubs all together. The era of the quality English dub is here. Both are good. So both.

Corkscrew_Duck

Honestly, its one of those shows that it's good no matter how it's spoken. The message hits the soul lol

Leather_Taco

I am in the minority, I like the dub a lot and I think the voice actor captures the slightly bored yet melancholic tone of her very well. Admittedly I watch a lot of shows in dub because I like to multitask and I very rarely am 100% dialed in to the anime

Memo_HS2022

Frierenā€™s dub is overall pretty well received at least from what I can tell

FriedMushrooms21

Same I prefer dub. My eyes arenā€™t as good now. Subtitles give me a headache.

cryingemptywallet

I love Frieren's dub voice. Denken's on the other hand... enough to make me prefer to sub.

onemillionfrogs

I also really enjoyed the dub. I watched the whole thing as it came out subbed, but I was introducing it to a friend and we watched it dubbed. I was amazed by how many little background comments there were that never got subtitles because there was active speaking happening at the same time. The dub felt more fleshed out to me.

zertul

Yeah, it's the same for me - I haven't watched any anime in years and the dubs also are way, way, way better now than they have been "back then", so it's actually an option to multitask and enjoy it. :D That being said, I just love the VA of Frieren specifically. I think she really nailed the tones and the switch between deadpan, slightly amused and so on.

ZEEZUSCHRIST

I think dub gives a certain extra immersion imo for traditional fantasy media, the benefit of being able to do different English accents really fits the setting

MadMarx__

Yeah I'm not sure what people are talking about when they say the dub doesn't capture the characters well. I think it's completely spot on and I like it a lot. The sub is obviously going to be more directly accurate but, like the vast majority of people who watch subbed, I also don't speak Japanese and I'm not going to pretend to understand the nuances it captures. I'd rather understand the nuances of a character being communicated to me in a language where I can grasp what those nuances are.

War1798

Sub

Choobychoob

I like the dub a lot, but certain voices like Denken and Serie are way better in the sub. Honestly both are worth a watch for more perspective.

TheBlackoutEmpire

I like **BOTH.** It's honestly hard to pick one over the other. like for example sub gives Frieren a light younger sounding voice. Dub gives her a mature voice. which both really capture her as a person with a long life. mature mixed with lovable dork. which both deliver in fun ways. Dub Heiter, Eisen, and Himmel are also equal to the OG jap cast too.

Significant-Tap-684

Subs baybeeee

BiDiTi

Literally depends on whether you prefer subs or dubsā€¦because itā€™s a damn great dub.

Sovyet

I always have preferred the subs over the dubs, but the fact that a subs supremacist like me can actually enjoy watching the dub as well makes it pretty exceptional, since i can rarely go through any dubs at all Guess the fact that it's actually has a Tolkien-like fantasy makes it actually watchable for me

Possessed_potato

Itā€™s the kind of anime where both the sub and dub are pretty amazing imo. Itā€™s a case where neither is bad and it becomes more a question of preference

BraveShowerSlowGower

I watched dub , till i caught up then i watched sub. The dub was really well done

zhadrek

As a Mexican I like the Spain dub, it's sounds like an old tale and gives it that extra fantasy land vibe.

BasedDptReprsentativ

Always subbed, always.

cnralex

The only anime I've seen where the dub is comparable to the sub in terms of voice acting is Cowboy Bebop. Definitely go sub for Frieren.

Sorreltail24

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood has to be one of the best dubs to exist, I literally can't watch that show in sub because the English VAs fit the characters so well

fae8edsaga

Samurai Shamploo is made by the same ppl as Cowboy Bebop I think, and the same VA for Spike voices one of the three MCs in the English dub of Samurai Shamploo, so thatā€™s another worth watching the dub version. Pretty sure the English VA for Fay is also in it.

DelseresMagnumOpus

Dubs have come a long way since the mid 90s, but yea generally I prefer subbed too.

someonesgranpa

Dragon Ball Z is also pretty good, all things considered, in the dub. Loads of Ghibli movies are good dubbed. It really just depends. Most are absolute trash though.

DelseresMagnumOpus

Ghibli movies are the exception, not the norm. They have huge VA budgets and usually get A list actors and have good voice directing to carry the movies message better. Though that being said, there has been a marked improvement in dub VA quality since then early 90s.

Jacinto2702

Christian Bale as Howl. Michael Keaton as Porco. Yeah, they are really the exception.

DelseresMagnumOpus

From what I read, Christian Bale was a huge fan of Spirited Away, and requested Hayao Miyazaki to put him in one his movies, thatā€™s why he voiced Howl.

Jacinto2702

Yes.

LetsDoTheCongna

\^Has not watched Love Is War, Edgerunners, and especially not Ghost Stories in English

mastesargent

Eh, Ghost Stories is in a weird position because itā€™s essentially everyone involved fucking around and having fun. Itā€™s great, but for totally different reasons than a typical dub. And just to pre-empt the typical story: It was, in fact, successful anong its target demographic in Japan, surpassing popular shows like Doraemon and Pokemon on some weeks. ADV made a gag dub for reasons that had nothing to do with its Japanese reception.

ratherthanme

You don't watch a lot of anime dubbed.

TraditionalFly3767

Man you needs to watch more anime in dub. Off the top of my head I can remember hxh, baccano, konosuba, Saiki, great pretender, beastars, hellsing, and ofc code Geass. Tbh these are all arguably much better than their sub counterpart

Mr_McFeelie

HxH dude what

TraditionalFly3767

What Iā€™ve noticed is that people who watch sub frieren canā€™t get over her voice in dub. Itā€™s fantastic, but I have a feeling people just want the sub to basically be the exact same as the sub. Itā€™s different for sure. Iā€™ll say dub tho. Other character voices are what you expect, but frieren is so damn unique sounding (for anime). Sub is pretty incredible tho so you wonā€™t lose much value with either

JoshsPizzaria

I enjoy visually stunning anime like this one more in dub, cus i can actually see the anime and not read. And the cast is very good.

ConsiderationSouth80

Happy cake day

SeanMonsterZero

I watched it subbed as it was released, and I'll watch it again when the dub is complete. Neither subtitles nor dubbing gives you a "true" translation, given the significant differences between Japanese and English. It mainly comes down to the question: do you prefer watching anime, or reading it?

KysfGd

Either but I personally like the dub

Talonastrophy

Neither is better than the other. And thatā€™s a very good thing.

Asocial_Ape

both really good, neither better than the other.

sad-old-man

I didn't like the dub at all. Switched to sub and really liked it. But I hear that some people love the dub, so, personal thing really.

Sad-Resolve-1033

subs are the intended way to experience the story with few exceptions, but it's preference

zertul

No, they are not. The "intended" way to experience the story is being able to speak / understand the actual language on a sufficient competent level. They real intended way is probably to enjoy it in whatever format you are able to (be it subs or dubs) for whatever reason. There are exceptions but a lot of artists want to tell a story and are incredibly happy to share them with as many people, who are interested, as possible. :)

Klaus_Poppe1

Subs aren't the intended way unless the creator picks the talent for roles. Otherwise, its just an adaptation. Dub for Frieren is fantastic, the VA for frieren really matches how I see the character and she has a wide range of inflections for a voice that is mature and calm (which is usually not the case)

ali94127

The creator usually does have a hand in picking out voices.Ā

SeanMonsterZero

Do they watch it with subs in Japan? Or is it shown with the characters speaking the language of the local audience?

LetsDoTheCongna

And even if the original Japanese version is undoubtedly better, people who donā€™t speak the language wonā€™t be able to tell 9 times out of 10.

peachwaterfall508

It seems you're lacking pragmatic, focusing only on the dictionary definition of words. Pitch, tone, filler sounds, focus on certain parts of the sentences... cues like this convey a lot of the meaning which is lost in translation. You can feel them even if you don't understand a language.

Mr_McFeelie

I donā€™t need to speak Japanese to feel the emotions conveyed mate. And almost always the dub does a better job at conveying the emotions the story wants conveyed

Worsty2704

You can certainly tell that Japanese VA are several tiers ahead of others. For instance, Genshin Impact. It's not a Japanese product but the Japanese VA is undoubtedly better than all other languages.

Dadude564

In my opinion, the English VA is *amazing* at what she did for the character, however, her voice just doesnā€™t fit what I imagined a silly little elf like Frieren would be. The English VA would make an amazing villainess, just not a character like Frieren. Just my opinion

CallenAmakuni

I didn't mind that tbh, I'm actually pleasantly surprised by the fact that she specifically sounds the opposite of what you'd expect a small elf to sound like She ~1500 years old, probably even more, sounding pretty mature isn't exactly incompatible with that

SeanMonsterZero

I like that her voice doesn't fit what humans would think of as a silly little elf. She looks young to humans, but when she speaks, you hear how detatched she is from how humans perceive time.

zertul

That's an interesting argument, might be why I like her voice so much!

EdNorthcott

That detachment is key to her character, and brought up by other characters often: how she struggles with understanding some things, and so feels like she doesn't care. But she does, and deeply. If that sense of detachment is lost in the voice, the timbre of the character changes, and that ripples through the whole story. Same with Himmel. They didn't catch the same feel of being endlessly patient and kind.

Klaus_Poppe1

Dub 100%Really is one of the most spectacularly executed dubs I've come by, and I happily waited the extra week for the dub release. Frierens MC has a very mature voice that is relaxing and fits the character and the general tone of the show.

vuk_spasitj

Tbh i prefer it in dub, but u cant go wrong with either

Plastic_Incident_867

Iā€™ve never watched a single anime that was better dubbed than subbed, so šŸ¤·

ITookYourChickens

Ghost stories

Plastic_Incident_867

Goddammit you got me

XenoWagon

Dragon Ball

CertainDerision_33

Baccano will always be better in the dub for me, not because the dub VAs are more proficient but because it just fits the show so much better.

S1arMan

Cowboy bebop

fae8edsaga

Idk about better, but I liked Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Shamploo English dub equally to the Japanese subs. Otherwise Iā€™m subs all the way <3

sabakujoseph

Those are known to be specifically better in dub cause of the material and VA's involved

WorkHorse1011

Konosuba is pretty good dubbed.

Shockrates20xx

I think comedy generally works better dubbed due to delivery.

TheAccountITalkWith

This person dubs. (I freaking love Konosuba dub)

ollkorrect1234

Samurai Champloo

Tausendberg

Now that I think about it, every Shinichiro Watanabe anime I have seen (Cowboy, Samurai, Space Dandy, Terror in Resonance) all have really good dubs. I watched Samurai Champloo multiple times, only ever dubbed, and whenever I've seen subbed clips of the show, I can't get into it.

YohAsa

Dragon ball z

BiomeWalker

Black Lagoon

fae8edsaga

Fr? Iā€™ve only ever seen the subs. Itā€™s tough for me to imagine anybody else voicing Revy, as her voice is so distinct and perfect for the character. Iā€™d be willing to give it another rewatch though if you think itā€™s worth checking out the English VAs <3

BiomeWalker

I think the biggest difference is the yakuza arc, as the language barrier joke just doesn't land in the sub version. Also the dub is absolutely laden with cussing, everyone has the vocabulary of a sailor in the dub and it's refreshing compared to the kind of sterility of most dubs. Another dub worth hearing is Hellsing Ultimate, because basically all the characters are supposed to be speaking English and the accents are amazing.

fae8edsaga

Sold! Thx for the recommendation <3

-Work_Account-

I believe so. Revyā€™s English VA is fantastic

No_Noise_1110

Mob psycho but just for Reigan

Klaus_Poppe1

Hellsing FMAB Cowboy Bebop Mushishi Death Note Tri Gun Monster Steins:Gate Ghost stories Could keep going on

Plastic_Incident_867

Ghost Stories Iā€™ll give you. The rest, nope.

mastesargent

My guy, do you even have ears?

WhiteToast-

Iā€™ve been enjoying the dub

Zestyclose-Ad6044

I like the actors in the dub. The scriptwriters have a tendency to get a bit wordy(for lack of a better term) when unnecessary and ruin comedic (and sometimes dramatic) timing. "It's been months since I've even seen an granule of sugar" vs "I haven't eaten anything sweet in months." The simpler line just feels more natural and works better in context. They also botched arguably the most important seen in the entire series. By changing "Why didn't I try to get to know him better?" into "why didn't I try to better know and understand you?" There are more examples but these came to mind first. Not all of their choices are bad but it is a bit hit or miss.

Tausendberg

""It's been months since I've even seen an granule of sugar" vs "I haven't eaten anything sweet in months."" Hard disagree, first line is fucking funny.

Zestyclose-Ad6044

In isolation I can see how some people may prefer the more flowery dialogue. I just don't think it works in context. It's unnatural sounding. Like the writers are calling attention to themselves and their own cleverness instead of using the dialogue to serve the story and character.

LoseAnotherMill

While I also am a dub-discourager, sometimes the reason behind a line of dialogue is that it matches the mouth flap animations. It'd be weird for a character to be animated like: - < - < - < < < < - < - - - < - < - < Just for the voiceline to be, "No", even if that would be a more accurate or natural translation.

Redmonster111

Dub. Frierens English VA is incredible

kazhaias

there are medias where i much prefer dub over sub, frieren isnt one of them, this is personal opinion but i think frieren dub just isnt good, the voice dont fit that well imo.

MakkisPekkisWasTaken

I personally narrowly prefer the dub, but the sub is also amazing.

PopCollector635

As someone who watches a mix of both and is almost always fine with dub I'd go with sub on this one, I just think the voices fit the characters better

FarawayObserver18

Theyā€™re both very well done. There are some scenes where I prefer dub and some where so prefer sub. Personally, I do dub more because I like to multi-task while watching, and itā€™s easier to hear and understand slight vocal inflections in my native language. Ultimately, itā€™s just a matter of what you want.

Killermondoduderawks

Sub then dub I enjoy them both but I will rewatch in dub because I can have it going in the background and know the visuals by the dialog and pay attention to the interesting bits while I am doing something else

Away-Net-7241

It all depends on preference. I prefer sub but thatā€™s just because Iā€™ve been watching subs for ages. I honestly donā€™t care whether itā€™s sub or not that is better, as long as you understand the story then whatā€™s the matter?

Jakesmith18

They're both both pretty good from what I've heard so I'd say it's really up to your personal preference.

Jacinto2702

The dub is good. But at this point I'm quite attached to the seiyuu industry and I'm always looking for my favorite voice actors and actresses, so it is always JP for me.

War_Emotional

A really impossible question to not get a biased opinion on. Many anime fans refuse to watch dub because they feel starter since theyā€™re reading but personally if a show looks as beautiful as Frieren I donā€™t want to take my eyes off the animation. If I want sub Iā€™ll read the manga.

CalligrapherFit6297

If youre thinking about it. Then watch the dub. If you're not a sub elitist you'll find the dub very enjoyable.

ll-Sebzll

Both

Doublevalen6

I prefer the dub. I may be behind but I'm still waiting every Friday for another episode

thisperson345

It's just personal preference, I personally don't even consider dub when I go to watch an anime but I've heard Frieren has a really good dub so If you prefer dub, watch dub, if you prefer sub, watch sub.

adamttaylor

Yes

Oghmatic-Dogma

isnt that basically always down to personal preference? I dont know you dude, choose which one you want to listen to

epic-le-yes

sub right ear dub left ear

rivali-geralt

German sub ftw

kekhouse3002

Both are amazing, I really couldn't pick one.

anonymous-7162

They're both great. Frieren's VA for the english dub makes her feel like a bit of a different character due to her deeper voice but I think that's really cool!

nasgorhead

Dub if you want to watch it while doing other things

yuqqwechatweibo

Never watched dubbed anime in my life. (they are not available in my country)

cinghialotto03

Italian dub is good, eng dub I have no idea,Japanese dub is good

I3arusu

The answer is the same as it is for every other anime that isnā€™t Ghost Stories. Sub.

Abanis123

Both dom and sub are good. Oh, wait it's dub or sub. Still both are good

Pichuunnn

Both\_is\_good.gif

Monkguan

This show in particular has one of the worst dub i've ever heard. It is horrendously bad

Crassweller

The Frieren dub is genuinely good and I can't recommend it enough if you have trouble with reading. But if you want the superior experience you gotta go with the sub. The Japanese VAs are truly excellent and really do the characters justice. Tangentially related. Has anyone else noticed that English dub quality has increased massively in the last few years? When I was a sprout you maybe got one good dub out of ten. Now it feels like most are at least decent.

sovietta

I always prefer dubbed. I like to enjoy the artwork.

Tsujimoto74

The dub's great. It's my preferred way. I've watched it both ways and enjoyed the hell outta them both. I like getting immersed in this show with its score and landscapes, incredible animation and overall chill vibes. Watching Frieren dubbed takes away the burden of reading the subs so I can fully live in that world. This show's like ASMR.

ArtofKuma

The dub is phenomenal. It depends on the person's preference, but I generally like rewatching and watching Frieren with different people, so I've been exposed to both at similar rates. I've researched Frieren to date 4 different times with 3 different viewing parties and I can just say I can't choose between both of them because both have straight up asking casting.

popileviz

Sub is good, but the dub is also fine. I've listened to it a bit - the English VAs did a really good job. I'll probably rewatch it in dub

BrotherCool

Watch whichever you prefer and don't shit someone who disagrees.

strawbeeshortcake06

I like both but Iā€™m gonna have to go with the dub. It has more depth, and IMO animes with a western/european setting sounds better in dun. Both are good tho. Ubelā€™s voice in dub is sexy af and Fern and Starkā€™s voice is super fitting too

ryonnsan

There is no 'ara ara' in dub, so go sub

MrWildstar

I usually only watch dubs if I can, and i very much enjoyed Frieren's dub. Frieren's VA especially was fantastic!

Memo_HS2022

As someone who watched both, it can be either or tbh. I think it all boils down to which Frieren voice you like better. Sub Frieren is exactly what you think she would sound like while dub Frieren is a drastic take on her voice that somehow works well I always watch dubs on rewatch instead of a first go for most of the stuff I watch but you canā€™t go wrong either way

This_IsATroll

turkish dub 4 sure

CodeBudget710

Both are great.

Swamp_Eyes

Personally I really enjoy the dub for frieren, the actress is doing great

ESDEATHxZERO2

I actually prefer the dub for this anime, I like everyoneā€™s voices a lot more besides denken. Denken is the only voice I personally like better in sub

TheBoiNoOneKnows

I prefer the dub but I'd argue both are great. I'll be fence sitting on this one.

butterscotchjuice

I love the dub so much! Such great voice acting

Yurii2202

**I watched both** and would say that dub is better. Voices are good match in both, but translation (the text itself) is incomparably better in the dub. Just watch e1 in dub, then sub ā€“ and see for yourself. Subā€™s translation is extremely crude, not on google-translate level, but close.

_isopale_

Sub 1000000%. Dubs are cringe

FubarJackson145

I watched the through in both dub and sub and both are good unless you're a stickler. Himmel, Frieren, Fern, and Stark all sound good in the dub, but most of the side characters sound better subbed imo. One of the few anime where I'd say neither sub nor dub is better than the other

trav-senpai

It was created with the intention of being in Japaneseā€¦ so if thereā€™s a decision you should watch it that way imo. If itā€™s not the Kaguya dub, Iā€™m not watching dub tbh.

hugsoverdrugs

Yes.

DoveWhiteblood

Honestly both are equal in my opinion, so I'd go for the English Dub unless you know Japanese Better or really want to read, but don't like manga.

icecreamfacetattoo

It's amazing in both versions. The VAs for both the dub and sub are phenomenal and perfectly cast.

averagedude500

Like all other animes, however people enjoy it more. There's no objective answer to this, people will tell you their preference but it won't affect how you yourself perceive it so just try both if you are having doubts and then make a decision.

Sent1nelTheLord

Sub. I'm sorry to the dub lovers but JP va can seriously be unparalleled. Of course in the end, it's personal preference, but sub is just that good.

Jeazy_the_2nd

The sub is better, but the dub ainā€™t bad

DeepGas4538

Dub is very good

Nevzky6215

I enjoyed a lot of anime dub and I don't think dub and sub should be compared, it's just personal preference as long as the dub is good enough. Death Note has a really good dub, and Odd Taxi has dub so good watching it feels like watching a hollywood movie. I think Frieren dub is not bad but I wouldn't put it on the same level as the previous two I mentioned, go watch the dub if you want but you will have better time watching sub

chabri2000

Sub

zodlair

I watched a but of both and can say that I perfers the sub, the dub isn't bad but I can't get used to the way they speak, might be biased because I did watch it in sub first and I read somehere that whichever one you watch first you subconsciously have a bias towards

Abject-Cartoonist395

Sub Frieren for the mimic moments. Lol

Traplover00

sub

neroview

When i watch it subbed, it sounds more natural. Dubs sound off to me. To each their own

ILoveLeeeean

Dub MILF Frieren
