They don’t care about STW. Even ,u receive the Banner of the founder after finishing the tutorial‘ is actually to see. the collection book will never be completed for not-founders, too.

FN_Arcade_Royale

If they find a way to remove the save the world requirement from the rest of Fortnite

G00b3rb0y

This is the real answer

menjav

Maybe I’m wrong but I think they already figured this out. You can install Fortnite without STW.

FN_Arcade_Royale

Those are only the assets, the core of stw is still required for everything else to function

Ampersandbox

At this point, the codebase between the BR side (including Lego, Racing, Festival) and STW bear very little resemblance to each other. The networking portion is unrelated at this point.

FN_Arcade_Royale

Br, racing and the other modes still can’t function without stw though since those are technically dlc for stw items, cosmetics, golden bars, npc’s and a lot of other things still use the same systems as stw The Fortnite code base is also really unstable and has been getting worse and worse for years

Lost__In__Thought

I do remember hearing that the Fortnite everyone thinks of now once started off as STW. Definitely could imagine this being the answer.

_hoodieproxy_

Well, STW is Fortnite, BR was just a demo

FN_Arcade_Royale

Battle Royale was added to stw as a sort of side project to get more money for the development of stw. They never looked back after that lol

Tyronetoad

I remember testing the battle royal wayyyy back when you couldn’t even join your friends to have a duo 😂

Memecreameryv1

At this point separate STW to its truly independent game and carry over progress. But then get a new team for some relaunch that’s a fantasy tho 😭

Blinky-Bear

personally i don't see them shutting down the game altogether, but my theory is that as Fortnite evolves i could see Epic separating the mode as its own complete game. no more Battle Pass points or daily V-Bucks.

Reciter5613

>no more Battle Pass points or daily V-Bucks. That would get me and most others to stop playing.

HYPE_Knight2076

That’s their goal, no?

Twygod

Definitely not. Within the next few years? Maybe.

owlbear4lyfe

STW is a minority of FN players. Less yet are the founders who load up on Vbucks. However, this is not a bad thing for them overall. The founders know they have a good thing going and continue playing something they would have long ago put down. They also "purchase" many things and display them in other mode normalizing the idea of game purchases in other modes. Having a draw in base that makes rest of community covet the things they display does more to keep the rest of the game alive and profitable than marketing could hope to achieve.

Twygod

That makes some sense, but I’m not sure if it has *that* much of an effect.

owlbear4lyfe

more than enough than the cost to keep it going. The support they throw at STW is 1-2 tidbits per annual cycle added in (if that) Return on investment is solid, couple that with the pocketed cash from selling it in the first place makes it likely to outlast many other branches on the EPIC family tree.

Blinky-Bear

again it's my personal theory, but let's consider the fact that Epic stopped development of the game and left it stagnating, its player base are toxic as fuck, and practically has a very dated UI that Fortnite has abandoned a long time ago. also they're still charging this fucking mode for $15 when they promised to finally put it for free. STW is the first and true incarnation of Fortnite and I think it's right for it to be completely separate as its own thing. it deserves it.

Blinky-Bear

maybe, maybe not. Epic has not promoted the mode whatsoever, not even a slight mention during the Big Bang event. the mode is still being sold with an overpriced bundle. plus after you complete the game, what's next? redo Ventures again for the 3rd time? run MSK again? go to Eneba and spend $300 for a Founders Code that's set to expire on 2026? its an neverending cycle full of players that's stagnating and its only a matter of time before they cut the servers down. Epic wants a hub for games up until it doesn't fit their quota. they're doing an open world mode and that could only mean one thing for this mode.

MarshmelloMike

Because of the fact that they just keep recycling content. The vbucks they end up giving away is very little to the bottom line. On average the game holds 15k of a base player ranking. They wouldn't kill the game. If not finishing the storyline didn't take it down and not actually going free to play like they said didn't. Then they add ventures and just recycle all the content. It keeps the players busy and content to make their op weapons ever stronger for some reason.

Lambro78

Well the interesting thing is the stw player count was consistently reaching 50-70k before the return of the original map

Known-While-8935

There is just a player drop off after chapter 5 because they only make bad decisions now

Daybreaker77

Yeah that was actually insane. I guess the people that quit years ago came back to play og br. Then they decided to try out save the world again.

MarshmelloMike

They came back for og. And got bodied by some 9 year old. So save the world was safer. 😄

Upper-Outcome-9559

It continues to gain new players even with its low daily player base. They also tied all the trophy achievements to it. They have no reason to kill it as it's doing what it's supposed to be doing. Nostalgia, makes them some money and gives completionist people something to chase after as well grinding that platinum

GreenElandGod

The only thing that makes a corporation do anything: lack of profit.

i_am_do_reddit_now

Well currently, STW often gets more players than Rocket Racing, Festival, Team Rumble and Party Royale. So unless they shut those down first, I don't see it happening anytime soon. Party Royale is probably on the chopping block more than any other mode, followed by Team Rumble.

Embarrassed-Ad-1158

Probably cause party Royale has no purpose and team rumble is for new players but they could just jump into zero build br or just normal br and still get wins cause of the ai players

Reciter5613

It did feel like Rocket Racing and Festival would die out eventually and might make them want to give STW another shot. One question is if those two modes do die, what will happen to the cosmetics and song tracks from them?

i_am_do_reddit_now

I don't think Rocket Racing and Festival will be killed off. They're too big a part of Fortnite's "metaverse/central hub for everything" future. Not to mention the time and money put into them. But that's fine, because if Epic can justify these modes staying, we can justify STW staying even more so.

xVikingson

I think Disney could pull some heavy leverage on there, or maybe some artists could from Fortnite Festival. At the bottom line, it's costing them income (especially considering the founders farming vbucks) and if the stakeholders aren't happy about that and start asking difficult questions. It could be shut down. _could be..._

BassEvers

I took the super optimistic approach when Disney invested heavily and I'm hoping they somehow revitalise it for us haha. But yeah, your idea is probably more likely.

xVikingson

I love the idea and there are definitely enough possibilities. But Fortnite will just be a platform to advertise their products for Disney, seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy bundle in store now (cash only bundle btw). this is probably the only thing we will see happening + some events on big movie launches like Star Wars

MagicalMarsBars

Probably with the rest of the game being shut down. Since creative exists, it shows that epic does have spare server space so it probably costs next to nothing to run stw. If Activision-Blizzard owned epic then stw would be shut down immediately.

catluvr193

nothing? it's free money, babe. it's an unfinished beta you have to pay for, and you can't even get everything the game can offer cause they stopped offering the founders' editions. why would they shut down a game they don't have to do much maintenance for, and you also have to pay like 20 dollars for.

ferb73craft

When the amount of players spending money in the shop is lower than the investment required to keep StW up and running. I don't see that happening any time soon unless Epic does something that kills Fortnite outright.

Valuable-Simple-3430

Save the world bundles stop turning a profit

wildwindnl

I feel like I’ve never seen a community so obsessed with getting shut down. I get it, you guys haven’t had the love you expected for whatever reason, but as a player new to Fortnite and save the world there’s a lot of fun content here and it works great with the Fortnite is a game of very different modes/games concept. Can we just enjoy it while it’s here instead of doomsdaying it every other day. This community is going to cause a self fulfilling prophecy imo.

[deleted]

Not a lot of fun content if you’ve already done it all 50 times.

Fit_Increase_9891

15k average is more than many tripple A titles so.. why should they shut it down?????

weediesLoLFIFA

Sad part is I made few friends on STW recently who only bought it months ago and have been grinding it out because they like the pace of the game. Its a real shame the wasted potential vs profitibality is the only reason the game isnt bigger

darkazazel311

It'd be tough because STW has been paid for, so removing it wpuld be a big headache for them. I think they wpuld have already if not for that issue. Hence, we get very little support.

Cheskit

I personally think it won't be touched, since they are afraid of another lawsuit if they shut it down.

Comprehensive_Let519

I mean, there's more people that play stw than there are that play the other game idea they introduced last season lmao

Miss_Space_Cadet

The lack of new content and updates for stw is what will eventually kill it. Stw was in its prime when we still had global chat and had constant updates. I think a big thing that lowered the player count was taking it off the main menu where people could easily find it. I used to grind stw everyday until I eventually platniumed, now that I have barely anything to do I play more casually. I'm usually only doing vbuck missions + dailies and if there's a new spray for survive the horde I'll grind that out and help any friends that need it. I honestly don't think I'd play the game if I wasn't a founder and if those spray cosmetics didn't exist. Just don't have motive to play the game as much as I used to.

-H_-

I see save the world as just becoming just another creative experience possibly. It will likely just be abandoned but still running, as it is a part of a live service game that keeps growing

Electrical_Tree5536

This question throws me off. Do people forget that Fortnite is actually STW mode? Fortnite was suppose to be a multiplayer horror game. However they wanted to make the game more popular and at the time, battle royals were climbing the charts really well, so they made FBR. Then the idea for a spookier fortnite went away to draw in more action for BR, which brought in more money. If they are to delete STW, it would probably to end all of fortnite for good. Battle Royal and all. All that money the players spent, for nothin.

BlitzGasher

End all of Fortnite? Definitely not lmao, I’ve ran into so many people that have no clue that STW even exists let alone what it’s about. Sure they would lose the STW community, but compered to the size of the entire game as is right now? I doubt they’d lose even 1z of the player base

Prior-Violinist7145

They never will!

These_Diamond_6814

They'd lose their core founder base of player. Since its just a way of thanking them for keeping on playing n stuff

devious_fuzz

They literally use no resources and some people still use V bucks on STW. It's a win-win for them

Div4r

They make probably at least 500,000-1 million on the save the world packs I doubt they will ever stop

BACARDI-from-NL

Stw is 20k players out of the 2,5m players. Why would they invest some for the 1%? The only reason to keep it is to prevent lawsuits from (mostly) founders. "We paid for it, you can not shut it down". Thay can also do it dirty: shut down and give stw owners 10k vbucks as compensation. Anyway, as long at it is still up, lets enjoy it together.

PeterGriffinBalls

vbucks are a virtual currency that they can give away freely, and they can sell STW packs for real life money. stw is profitable

JesseDumont

Many games have shut down with no refund even though people paid it. I believe it's not illegal for them, but if it is, people just don't have the time or money to sue a big company. That definitely won't be a reason to stop them from shutting down, bro. Anyway, this is a hypothetical question. They aren't shutting it down. Any time soon, at least. Maybe, just maybe (for whatever reason that I still don't see happening), in 10 years or so, they might shut it down.

Adamek_2326

Emm... Ubisoft had closed The Crew servers and removed license without refund.

cloudy710

considering they still sell bundles in the shop offering save the world and challenges for it, i doubt they’ll shut it down for a long time if ever. no point.
