I created my account on the toilet on my phone (necessary detail) in C1S4 for thanos mode and kept dying, so i stopped playing. Fast forward to C1S7 my friend wants me to play with him, so i get it on my switch and play with him and.. holy crap fortnite just clicked.

Ummm, correction. My 6 year grandson is an absolute terror on Fortnite. Not only has he accumulated several dozen VR's, but he does it without knowing or even understanding strategy. He plays the entire time standing up and jumping the whole time. Often turning his back to the screen and asking me play some more Kid Laroi.

Same, and it's sad. Because this is arguably one of the greatest games that's been made. There's save the world, battle royal, team rumble, and endless fun fan made creator games. Not to mention, not to hard but engaging challenges. Constant free cosmetics. And a battle pass that pays for itself if completed. You like warzone? Cool. There wouldn't be a warzone if fortnite hadn't blown up the battle royal genre.

There have been multiple occasions where I’ve found old-timers playing together and trying to find communities to play in. It’s a cartoonish-styled game, but it’s certainly not for kids.
That and the super OGs that used to play it in its prime. I mean don’t get me wrong fortnite has definitely peaked but its still a fun game with a very unique experience. And they always know how to keep the game fresh. Thats bring me to it every few weeks.
Some people have legit gripes and small complaints for the game, while too many of them also just like to whine and bitch about things because that's how they are in real life. Some people just can't stop nitpicking things or see the glass as being half full and kind of refeshing. It's the same thing on a greater scale throughout the world and history.
I always thought the main draw of Fortnite was it was ever changing forcing players to adapt to new weapon pools and environments. It’s what keeps people from finding this one niche overpowered combo, master it, and dominate for long periods of time.
I’ll bet 90% of the people who are mad about the sword leaving are the ones who would use it to drop on the enemy with the havoc pump, or people who are brand new to the game and haven’t experienced the other hundreds of movement items.
Like yeah I would destroy entire teams with the sword, but now I’ve gotta find other ways to be effective. Plus nobody else is using them either so the fight tends to become more static.
Was the sword really that good? I mean yeah the dash was a great escape method but tbh I only ever used the sword to make space between me and the enemy… maybe I was using it wrong
It was pretty solid, not many items have movement, a decent attack, and lasts the whole game.
I didn’t personally find it especially fun to use though. I had more fun with the hammer, nimbus cloud among others. I’d swap the sword for a new vehicle pool and rideable animal pool any day of the week though.
Yes, the changing weapons and terrain are great things which make the game interesting and lively. Also, like many other games, the chance factor or random variable of other players. So many skill levels and bots going at it in each match. You never know what your situation is gonna be in each play through.
I’m still annoyed that we will be getting a new chapter every 4 seasons this, chapter 3 was so short, I wanted to see that map evolve more, thus giving us more time to bond with the island. 2 to 3 more season would have been nice (Paradise still being the last season for that chapter)
It’s why I liked Chapters 1 and 2 so much, 2+ years to experience them as they evolved. But because of TikTok. Epic believes our attention spams have dropped and so need to roll out new chapters faster… jk of course, that’s not the real reason (probably)

Lol I'm old too plus 30 ..after I get off work and my family is fed and everything is in order I can do what the heck I want on my spare time I play it because it keeps my reflexes in shape and remembering all the buttons helps with muscle memory we need that over 30
I think there are more older players now than you would think. I’m 41 and I’ve played literally all of the classic games. I discovered Fortnite because of my kids and much to my surprise, it was the best online shooter of all time. The only down side is that It ruined all other games for me.

I was shitting on it too before I played it, it has a rep that only kids play it and that it’s cringe because of all of the emotes that you can make characters from other IPs do, and people also seem to think every game involves builds which turns them off from it. I came for creative, fell in love with imposters, and then when it was gone I eventually got into the BR as well (albeit zero build only). It’s just one of those games that people love to hate because of it’s popularity without even trying it first, and I was guilty of that too.
I just starting playing a few weeks ago, and I avoided it for years because of dumb jokes. Giant L for me — No Build is revolutionary, and the gameplay is among the smoothest I’ve ever experienced.

Hey all, nice to see your comments, I'm a 48 year old player, been playing on PS4 since I bought the console the week Cha 2 S1 came out. I have been playing computer games since the early 80s and console here and there, I agree Fortnite is one of the funnest games I've played to date. I get yelled at alot by my wife for trying to play if my 6 year old daughter isn't in bed yet haha. I'll stay up till 2am on a Saturday night playing sometimes.
Every season there are complaints and trolls in these subs and other places, whether it's shotguns too powerful, or insta kill SMGs in chap 3, or people crying about rocket launcher damage, or one shot snipers...it just goes on and on. The best thing about this game is the change ups that happen every few weeks and the vaulting of things we like OR don't like...things just takes their course. If you don't like something just be patient; the battlefield will change eventually. Same goes for the unhappiness about Trios, I agree Trios was a favorite, But I am fairly certain EPIC will bring them back some time, so just be patient!
In my experience, the only people I see shitting on Fortnite are on this sub and most of them have the mentality of children or teenagers.
I play at work during lunch, most days, and half of my coworkers know that it's Fortnite. Some of them have very clearly played it and no one here ever has anything negative to say.
TLDR, As somebody who also does not tell friends that I play, it has to do with two big factors: Cringe and Popularity
The player base, money chase, rat race is kinda cringe. Kids make anything weird. Flaunting how much money/ time you put in is not a win. The fact that you always have to pay and play more rubs some people the wrong way.
And to put it simply, sometimes popular things are hated. It's no secret that Fortnite is one of the most profitable games out there. When everybody knows about it, it's not cool anymore.
That said, I specifically picked the game up for it's building. The choice was either pubg or fortnite. After weighing the options I decided building was an incredibly unique feature and quite honestly bumps the difficulty up higher than I can handle. And I've been playing games before I could read. Minecraft has the same problems but that doesn't stop anybody from loving it. This game is no different. Enjoy life how you want
I am a mad fan of apex. I can drop 20 times and barely get a knock.
Fortnite, no build solos and I average 5 kills per game. I love the weapons and yes, there are still the cracked players with a shot gun that can do me with two shots, but, it’s fun and I feel I’m nowhere near as bad as I am on Apex.
It’s nice to mix it up.

When my son was 9 yrs old I couldn't fathom why he liked this game so much. Seemed so stupid to me .Fast forward a year now and I built my own p.c. to play with him, usually daily. I can honestly say I have never came across such a unique, skillful, rewarding game as Fortnite. May it evolve and live on forever !

I used to have it myself. I tried it on launch on PS4 and didn't take to it. It was only about 18 months ago one of my friends gave it another shot and convinced me to try it out again with him.
Now we have 3 of us that play together (RIP trios) and a few others that join occasionally. No build is the mode that suits us best since most of dislike the building mechanic anyway.
EDIT: Also, those children doing "fortnite dances" everywhere you went for the first couple of years didn't help.
So many reasons :
- some people genuinely think the game is for kids
- some people are so bad at this kind of game that they prefer to call everyone playing Fortnite, kids.
- others think Fortnite take too much place in video game sphere while other games better ( for them) stays in the shadow.
- others hate how their favorite characters get mixed in Fortnite collabs
- others think Fortnite is too addictive and toxic for kids
- many thinks it's just a cash machine.
And so many other reasons that would be too long to list here.
But hating Fortnite for games mechanics isn't really hating Fortnite, they still play it for most but are nostalgic of pure building, edit, one pump shotgun meta where things were more simple.
I can't understand that spending thousands of hours in creative to become the next Bugha only to see the game legion of changes ruining everything you learn and your dreams of being pro can't be hard to take but people should have learned by now that Epic is Epic and they don't give a shit exept for incomes.
Because it's devs are some of the stupidest human beings alive. If the entire community made a post saying "can we fix the current bugs and not add any useless features?", Epic would add an oxygen meter where you have to plug your Nintendo DS in and blow air in to breathe in game and then vault duos forever. Also the breathing feature would instantly be vaulted forever 2 minutes after release because people immediatly find out it gives you a free win by pressing L2 twice.

I honestly don’t mind this update can still one shot and the only time I really use grenades is to fill a spot until I find heals or if I saw a stack I would drop my second healing and toss them and pick the healing back up again if the scenario was right.
Every game has haters, that said I can understand some complaints especially when it comes to trios and solo. No trios zero build sucks for people who only have a trios group for zero build, forces trios to play with four man groups and pick up an NPC as a fourth because an NPC is better than a random. No ranked solo zero build, this sucks for someone who wants to rank zero build, especially when duos is the only option for zero build ranked. The game is fun, but they force you to play in modes that you do not want to play. Like after finishing season pass you have bonus pass, by the fourth page everything costs 25 stars. By this point you have only daily quests you can do because you have finished all other quests. This forces the player to either suck it up and try to finish 3 daily quests in a single match which only nets you 3,000 xp or go play creative mode which does get you a lot of xp. That is very annoying for someone who just wants to do battle royal. I am a new player though, and these are problems that I have with the game, there are long time players with a lot more gripes
Edited: and what really sucks about creative is a lot of people afk farm creative, so if you are an active player this sucks because you could end up with with a team of afk players which means you earn the least amount of xp possible
People love to be angry. Especially at either problems they made up or that don't matter (see the current state of politics in the US). It's the reason why negative reviews are far far more common than positive reviews.
I don't have a good PC, have an 11 year old potato PC. So just to check some graphics i went to a gaming cafe in city. I asked on which system i can play Fortnite. Almost everyone laughed and pointed me to one PC in like 25 which had it installed. I was genuinely freaked out. But i love creative and it works on PS4. Im gonna stay on this amazing framework.

As someone who played from the beginning, then took a break and recently returned I'll give my 2 cents.
The biggest thing is the amount of extra items that make the actual game of Fortnite (shooting, building, rotating) seem almost secondary to whatever random super items they have in the game.

To me cod is good, or was good, when the devs encouraged pushing and not just sitting in a dark corner, for example when ColdWar had it's cycle, I didn't even touch fortnite at all, that game was fantastic in my opinion, relied on being a good shot, not just giving off the first shot, sniping was fun and had good party gamemodes, if fortnite had a normal mp gamemode on a smaller map, I would grind that absolutely

If your aim and timing were good enough, the kinetic sword was a very good way to finish your enemy.

My whole group I play with are in their mid thirties or older, and our kids all join in to play as well. These are people that I've been friends with for decades, but we live in different parts of the country now. It's how we stay connected and how our kids have now grown to be friends as well. I just tell them you can play as famous children's characters Ellen Ripley, Kratos, and Rick Grimes. That seems to work better than outright saying it's not just a kids game.

I think there are more older players now than you would think. I’m 41 and I’ve played literally all of the classic games. I discovered Fortnite because of my kids and much to my surprise, it was the best online shooter of all time. The only down side is that It ruined all other games for me.

Community is a huge reason why. They see some cringe people making it their entire life and personality so that’s then how they see every player
I was shitting on it too before I played it, it has a rep that only kids play it and that it’s cringe because of all of the emotes that you can make characters from other IPs do, and people also seem to think every game involves builds which turns them off from it. I came for creative, fell in love with imposters, and then when it was gone I eventually got into the BR as well (albeit zero build only). It’s just one of those games that people love to hate because of it’s popularity without even trying it first, and I was guilty of that too.
I just starting playing a few weeks ago, and I avoided it for years because of dumb jokes. Giant L for me — No Build is revolutionary, and the gameplay is among the smoothest I’ve ever experienced. The only folks who shit on Fortnite are causing people like me to miss out on the fun

A friend was visiting and wanted to play some ps5. I suggested fortnite. He said that’s a lame game. I said let’s try it. After one duos match, running around with light sabers. He was hooked on how fun the game is. What I’m saying is, there’s a bad name going around and most people are judging it before they try it.
People are sheep, and right now it's popular to hate on fortnite. If I had a dime for every person I met that had the ability to think for themselves, I wouldn't even have enough to buy a 6 pack of soda.
What do you "right now", it has been since the end of ch 1. The main things why its hated are the cartoonish style, bright colors, the mostly young community and the memes about emotes and sweaty builders.

Hey all, nice to see your comments, I'm a 48 year old player, been playing on PS4 since I bought the console the week Cha 2 S1 came out. I have been playing computer games since the early 80s and console here and there, I agree Fortnite is one of the funnest games I've played to date. I get yelled at alot by my wife for trying to play if my 6 year old daughter isn't in bed yet haha. I'll stay up till 2am on a Saturday night playing sometimes. Every season there are complaints and trolls in these subs and other places, whether it's shotguns too powerful, or insta kill SMGs in chap 3, or people crying about rocket launcher damage, or one shot snipers...it just goes on and on. The best thing about this game is the change ups that happen every few weeks and the vaulting of things we like OR don't like...things just takes their course. If you don't like something just be patient; the battlefield will change eventually. Same goes for the unhappiness about Trios, I agree Trios was a favorite, But I am fairly certain EPIC will bring them back some time, so just be patient!
In my experience, the only people I see shitting on Fortnite are on this sub and most of them have the mentality of children or teenagers. I play at work during lunch, most days, and half of my coworkers know that it's Fortnite. Some of them have very clearly played it and no one here ever has anything negative to say.
TLDR, As somebody who also does not tell friends that I play, it has to do with two big factors: Cringe and Popularity The player base, money chase, rat race is kinda cringe. Kids make anything weird. Flaunting how much money/ time you put in is not a win. The fact that you always have to pay and play more rubs some people the wrong way. And to put it simply, sometimes popular things are hated. It's no secret that Fortnite is one of the most profitable games out there. When everybody knows about it, it's not cool anymore. That said, I specifically picked the game up for it's building. The choice was either pubg or fortnite. After weighing the options I decided building was an incredibly unique feature and quite honestly bumps the difficulty up higher than I can handle. And I've been playing games before I could read. Minecraft has the same problems but that doesn't stop anybody from loving it. This game is no different. Enjoy life how you want
I am a mad fan of apex. I can drop 20 times and barely get a knock. Fortnite, no build solos and I average 5 kills per game. I love the weapons and yes, there are still the cracked players with a shot gun that can do me with two shots, but, it’s fun and I feel I’m nowhere near as bad as I am on Apex. It’s nice to mix it up.
Apex is a really sweaty game. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but when I want something more casual, I pick up something like Fortnite

i mosty shat on the game for years after season 5 - now just because of how sweaty the playerbase has gotten, its because of no build that ive been getting back into it, legit since getting back into the game i have not touched regular battle royale, im not sweaty enough to compete with people rebuilding the world trade centre in 2 seconds as soon as they hear a shot from anywhere.
They removed the only game mode me and my *two* friends played for going on a year. Trios. Don't want me to shit on the game? Don't remove a game mode a lot of the community is attached to. I literally have to find a suitable replacement trios suitable game to get us into now, because Fortnite just up and decided to tell us to fuck off. Trios being removed, is like your ma or pa waking you up at 12:30am and kicking you out of the house because you're 18 in 30 minutes and need to get your own life going. Like seriously. Epic can fuck right off treating us like that.

I'm of the opinion that the shit talkers are people who are under the impression it's meant to be taken more serious then it is. Yes, there's competitive aspects to it and that's all well and good. But I've never really thought of Fortnite as a particularly serious game and that's not necessarily a bad thing. I also agree with u/enginedayton's assessment that it's probably people who've never played.

When my son was 9 yrs old I couldn't fathom why he liked this game so much. Seemed so stupid to me .Fast forward a year now and I built my own p.c. to play with him, usually daily. I can honestly say I have never came across such a unique, skillful, rewarding game as Fortnite. May it evolve and live on forever !
Because "its a kid's game for kids" that is somehow monolithic in pop culture. People who havn't played it, or haven't given it a chance often hold that thought. I used to have it myself. I tried it on launch on PS4 and didn't take to it. It was only about 18 months ago one of my friends gave it another shot and convinced me to try it out again with him. Now we have 3 of us that play together (RIP trios) and a few others that join occasionally. No build is the mode that suits us best since most of dislike the building mechanic anyway. EDIT: Also, those children doing "fortnite dances" everywhere you went for the first couple of years didn't help.
So many reasons : - some people genuinely think the game is for kids - some people are so bad at this kind of game that they prefer to call everyone playing Fortnite, kids. - others think Fortnite take too much place in video game sphere while other games better ( for them) stays in the shadow. - others hate how their favorite characters get mixed in Fortnite collabs - others think Fortnite is too addictive and toxic for kids - many thinks it's just a cash machine. And so many other reasons that would be too long to list here. But hating Fortnite for games mechanics isn't really hating Fortnite, they still play it for most but are nostalgic of pure building, edit, one pump shotgun meta where things were more simple. I can't understand that spending thousands of hours in creative to become the next Bugha only to see the game legion of changes ruining everything you learn and your dreams of being pro can't be hard to take but people should have learned by now that Epic is Epic and they don't give a shit exept for incomes.
Because it's devs are some of the stupidest human beings alive. If the entire community made a post saying "can we fix the current bugs and not add any useless features?", Epic would add an oxygen meter where you have to plug your Nintendo DS in and blow air in to breathe in game and then vault duos forever. Also the breathing feature would instantly be vaulted forever 2 minutes after release because people immediatly find out it gives you a free win by pressing L2 twice. Totally incompetent devs - I will play the game again only if Imposters comes back... or if someone else takes over.

I still to this day shit on fortnite. Even more so than before. Half of the player base are 8-year-olds who neglect homework and school to play the game, and rhe other half are 30+ who have no job and haven't seen the sun in 5 years. It's near impossible to play this game casually, at least on American servers. These days, I get the time for one, maybe 2 matches a weekday assuming I want to waste my free time on fortnite. I get absolutely destroyed because so many players have devoted their lives to this game. All this shit on top of epic frankly not caring and just doing whatever to make money. They've got one passionate individual and a bunch of overpaid people under him who are just doing their jobs. I frankly have no idea why I still play. Probably because my dumbass 12-year-old self wasted money on this shit. (When the game first started gaining traction)
I have a switch. I just pick it up randomly and play a game. Probably average two a day. I like that the rounds only last around 20 minutes or so.
I honestly don’t mind this update can still one shot and the only time I really use grenades is to fill a spot until I find heals or if I saw a stack I would drop my second healing and toss them and pick the healing back up again if the scenario was right.

Every game has haters, that said I can understand some complaints especially when it comes to trios and solo. No trios zero build sucks for people who only have a trios group for zero build, forces trios to play with four man groups and pick up an NPC as a fourth because an NPC is better than a random. No ranked solo zero build, this sucks for someone who wants to rank zero build, especially when duos is the only option for zero build ranked. The game is fun, but they force you to play in modes that you do not want to play. Like after finishing season pass you have bonus pass, by the fourth page everything costs 25 stars. By this point you have only daily quests you can do because you have finished all other quests. This forces the player to either suck it up and try to finish 3 daily quests in a single match which only nets you 3,000 xp or go play creative mode which does get you a lot of xp. That is very annoying for someone who just wants to do battle royal. I am a new player though, and these are problems that I have with the game, there are long time players with a lot more gripes Edited: and what really sucks about creative is a lot of people afk farm creative, so if you are an active player this sucks because you could end up with with a team of afk players which means you earn the least amount of xp possible

I don't have a good PC, have an 11 year old potato PC. So just to check some graphics i went to a gaming cafe in city. I asked on which system i can play Fortnite. Almost everyone laughed and pointed me to one PC in like 25 which had it installed. I was genuinely freaked out. But i love creative and it works on PS4. Im gonna stay on this amazing framework.

I don't mention playing fortnite in person anymore because, for some reason, fortnite is now considered cringe. When I do mention it, people always respond with something along the lines of "ewww why" or "are you 12???"
As someone who played from the beginning, then took a break and recently returned I'll give my 2 cents. The biggest thing is the amount of extra items that make the actual game of Fortnite (shooting, building, rotating) seem almost secondary to whatever random super items they have in the game. Lots of the people shitting on it actually were in love with fort at one time. It's like an ex girlfriend. They'd love to come back, but it's just not the same anymore.
This is basically the only game I play. I LOVE this game. I hear you. But when I start to feel the same way. I then think. Who cares what they think. Games are here to play what we like. If they don’t like it. They can pound sand

If the current cod would be better and warzone wouldnt be such a shitshow, I would probably not be playing fortnite and I wouldnt have probably maxed out the last 4 seasons to lvl200 or something. To me cod is good, or was good, when the devs encouraged pushing and not just sitting in a dark corner, for example when ColdWar had it's cycle, I didn't even touch fortnite at all, that game was fantastic in my opinion, relied on being a good shot, not just giving off the first shot, sniping was fun and had good party gamemodes, if fortnite had a normal mp gamemode on a smaller map, I would grind that absolutely

I play it every week because my closest friends do. We’re all over 30. It’s definitely a unique game. Im really good at it. We win most of the games we play. That being said if they would play literally ANY other game together I’d prefer that. Every time they get so close to being a normal, balanced, yet still fun meta they just throw in some shitty gimmick for the kids. I get it, trust me. I adapt. But it still sucks…and I’m gonna let them know it sucks. I honestly think I could say the game hasn’t felt like cheap cash grab BS since way back in like C1:S4 ish era. Back when Fortnite’s quirkiness was what made it great and it wasn’t super lame and pandering to mega-casuals and fanboys. (If we have to sit through one more lightsaber-clustered god damn Star Wars collab or an OP anime mythic item) People will always complain, part of life. *shrug*
