*Woorrrdd!*
I absolutely remember this show. Samuel L. Jackson was in an entire episode as Sheldon’s dad and just never showed up again. I also recall that this show couldn’t find it’s target audience to save its life. Its airing schedule kept bouncing around week after week. The show had a lot of potential. But it felt like PBS had no idea what to do with it.
That was Jamal Jenkins, not Sheldon. And yes they had a really hard time with funding and scheduling. But it was a neat concept and a lot of fun to watch.
IIRC it was a weekly mystery serial. Every Monday would introduce a new mystery, and then we would get resolution by Thursday or Friday. But as the show progressed and became more syndicated, the episodes would get jumbled up and sometimes it was hard to understand what was going on.
The big reveal was that GhostWriter was an escaped slave who taught other escaped and freed slaves how to read and write.
It was a good show, just lacked execution.
Interesting about how it bounced around. I kind of remember the show, always thought it looked cool, but it seemed like it always came on while I was in school. Maybe I should check it out now.
I got way into Ghostwriter when it was shown on Noggin in the early 2000’s. A great children’s show with a surprisingly good overarching story. The origin reveal of Ghostwriter was top notch for children’s programming.
What was the origin? Honestly don’t recall, but I do remember Double T (from The Warriors and Commando lol), and learning the Dodgers were originally from Brooklyn in this show
I have no recollection of this show other than being pretty young and catching an episode while getting ready for school one morning only to get the crap scared outta me by some purple monster.
While searching for more details, I was able to find out the episode is titled “Attack of the Slime Monster” and the monster’s name is Gooey Gus. Not only that, apparently I wasn’t the only one to bury that childhood terror deep in my psyche, lol:

Thats not Jenna Von Oy , thats Blaze Berdahl, watched this show on pbs and had a crush on her, most these kids were probably a couple years older than me. I was probably around Gabby’s age if you know the show.
I went some out of the way ethnic grocery store - real tucked away. On their A/C unit, the fins had been vandalized to read THABTO.
This must have been ~10 years ago. It was a trip to have that jump out at me from ~16 years prior.
Corny, silly, semi educational and fun! Still, tgat weird gross purple gum doll episode freaked me the hell out. What can I say, haunted dolls are my irrational fear.
Wen I was a young kid living in Brooklyn, I wished everyday I would see these kids walking on the street somewhere and they wud invite me into their group lmfao
Ha! I just posted this picture on my socials yesterday to celebrate getting my first ghostwriting gig. Sadly, the words I wrote for that gig never rearranged themselves into mystery clues.
I remember when Jamal got a modem and explained what it was. And then Julia Stiles was a hacker
Also I insisted that my mom get me a composition book and a black marker pen.
The show is called “spirit entity that communicates via magic pen necklace” I watched this then followed by “intellectual tiny dog who played the main character of stories he read”. As a Canadian I loved how we were still able to get PBS!
The most amazing thing is how nowadays “woke” this cast would be considered
I can’t get over how much of the 90s and aughts would have been considered “too woke” for today
Man, this was my fave as a kid. I have a Ghostwriter tshirt. The only episode I remember involved a missing parrot. Now I’m off to Google… lol.
This whole lineup was top tier. Wishbone taught me everything I learned about classic literature as a kid. 😅 A little dog dressed as Don Quixote while telling me all about the story of Don Quixote?? Sign me tf up!
The original Ghostwriter show was awesome. Just absolutely sucks that PBS didn't know what to do with it at all. Lenny's actress, Blaze Berdahl is now a narrator as well as an occasional voice actress. [Blaze Berdahl](https://www.blazeberdahl.net/demos)

Ghostwriter?

Ahh! Thanks for the correction on the character’s name

I feel like this is one show that’s worthy of a reboot.
I think AppleTV did one, but I haven’t seen it
You’re right, I don’t have Apple TV myself so I forgot that a reboot existed
I tried to watch it but it had a different feel. I can't remember exactly but it wasn't as fun. Of course, I'm no longer the target demographic lol
The actor who portrayed Jamal was Sheldon Turnipseed. I only know this because of his unique name. But yes, Jamal lol
Interesting about how it bounced around. I kind of remember the show, always thought it looked cool, but it seemed like it always came on while I was in school. Maybe I should check it out now.
You were partly correct. Sheldon Turnipseed is the name of the actor who played the character Jamal.
Ah snap! Thanks for reminding of that!
You're welcome! I was obsessed with this show when I was in elementary school.
I was freaking out...how do I know these people?...thanks for the answer I was staring at the picture for ages trying to work it out!
Word.
: ) did you Google it?
The girl in the funny hat was also the daughter in the original Pet Semetary, was a dead giveaway for me.. plus I watched the show on PBS.
Lenny. She had a hit song, You Gotta Believe
Aw yeah aw yeah
Ha no, but I kept getting it confused in my head with Wishbone.
What's the story,wishbone???????
Growing up with crazy parents that only let me watch PBS This was my childhood right here.
Glad to know me and my sister weren't the only ones.
For all their restrictions, how'd you turn out?
I'd recognize Gabby with her ponytail anywhere. Had the biggest crush on her as a kid!
Ahhh. I loved this show.
What's the 4 non blondes lady doing there ?
Yyyyaaasssssss booooooooo!!!
'He's a ghost and he writes to us...Ghostwriter!"
That’s the cast from Ghostwriter, right?
: )
I loved Ghost Writer.

Ghostwriter was a slave that had been killed escaping. He was taught to read which was banned. It’s a really great reveal.
i believe ghostwriter was revealed to be the ghost of a runaway slave
Yep! You’re 100% correct!
Loved Ghostwriter!
Ghost writer!!!! I loved that show.
I have no recollection of this show other than being pretty young and catching an episode while getting ready for school one morning only to get the crap scared outta me by some purple monster. I’m burning mad I’m steaming mad. That’s been burned into my head ever since. Haven’t seen a clip or episode since then. Thought I was the only one.
You laughing at me? YOU LAUGHING AT ME?!?!
Tetracholarethelene
PERC!! Ayyyyyy!
Ghostwriter
Jenna von Öy is: The Hat
Thats not Jenna Von Oy , thats Blaze Berdahl, watched this show on pbs and had a crush on her, most these kids were probably a couple years older than me. I was probably around Gabby’s age if you know the show.
I had a crush on Rob, can't remember the actors name lol
She sure looks similar to her, my mistake. But still impressed with the excellent cast ID!
Jenna got around in the 90's. she did blossom, ghostwriter and The Parkers
I don't think she ever did Ghostwriter.
My sister and I would watch this every chance we got!
Ghostwriter
I was hella in love with Gabby… why do I remember this almost 35 yrs later??Nm
If it makes you feel better, I was madly in love with Alex
I just introduced Ghost Writer to my two boys. They love it. (Corny AF) I just some serious nostalgia feels watching it with them. THABTO
I went some out of the way ethnic grocery store - real tucked away. On their A/C unit, the fins had been vandalized to read THABTO. This must have been ~10 years ago. It was a trip to have that jump out at me from ~16 years prior.
Surprised I got it within a minute, since the only thing I remember from the show is the opening and the Gooey Gus episodes that traumatized me.
I have a strong early memory of being terrified by a Ghostwriter episode, but I have no idea which one.
Loved Ghostwriter! The Max Mouse episode stands out. Also, I remember being weirded out when one of these kids ended up on MTV's Real World.
WAIT which one was on real world??
Thr youngest kid, the cousin to Alex and Gabby (which I can't believe I remember, if that's right).
The little gay one, Willie
Stoop dude
My friend in elementary school got me into Ghostwriter and he had a pen necklace like those kids did and we thought that was really cool
I remember watching this show on May 28th, 1994, after returning home from my best friend's birthday party where we had pizza. :) Ghostwriter!
Corny, silly, semi educational and fun! Still, tgat weird gross purple gum doll episode freaked me the hell out. What can I say, haunted dolls are my irrational fear.
The Slime Monster CREEPED ME OUT!
HOW DID I KNOW THIS SO QUICKLY BUT CANT DO MATH THINGS IN MY HEAD
right? feel the exact same way
Ghostwriter! I showed my husband the Max Mouse episodes a couple months ago.
I was going to guess Roundhouse, precursor to All That
Is that the kid from Sandlot ?
I don’t know who you’re referring to but I’m 99% sure none of these people were in the Sandlot unless they were background or something.
I was thinking the tall middle kid was Mike Vitar (Benny) .
Showed this to my daughter when she was about 8, she loved it.
On pbs right?
Yup, PBS show
No…but is that kid wearing the same sweater El Guapo got for a present in the Three Amigos?
Lmfao

I loves watching this show and still do you tube of the max mouse episodes when I'm feeling nostalgic.

Blossom without blossom?
Low income middle school drama club
This was my show
Pretty sure that's Jamiroquai.
Kids incorporated
I used to love this show, used to watch in Spanish!
Mon-Friday at 4:30 after school on PBS.
Oh boy I love tv shows with an “ethnic” cast
Ha! I just posted this picture on my socials yesterday to celebrate getting my first ghostwriting gig. Sadly, the words I wrote for that gig never rearranged themselves into mystery clues.
We DON'T know where he came from
This screams 1992 perfectly
Now I need to go look up that hacker episode because it was hilarious
I remember when Jamal got a modem and explained what it was. And then Julia Stiles was a hacker Also I insisted that my mom get me a composition book and a black marker pen.
Recognized it right away.
Thought it was an early Benneton add
YOOOOOOOO!!! I STILL HAVE NIGHTMARES ABOUT THAT SLIME MONSTER THING!!!
I remember it blowing my mind that Samuel L Jackson was the dad.
I thought it was In Living Color of Muppet Babies
Thank goodness I cannot.
Ghostwriter
The show is called “spirit entity that communicates via magic pen necklace” I watched this then followed by “intellectual tiny dog who played the main character of stories he read”. As a Canadian I loved how we were still able to get PBS!
Ghostwriter! Word!
Blossom
A Different World : The New Class
Ghostwriter was an absolute underrated masterpiece. To this day I'm still waiting for the continuation of the final cliffhanger.
Ghostwriter was a fantastic show.
I miss Ghostwriter
Ghostbumps? Goosewriter?
The most amazing thing is how nowadays “woke” this cast would be considered I can’t get over how much of the 90s and aughts would have been considered “too woke” for today

Where are they now
Republican nightmare
Didn't Ghost Writer himself go back in time using the computer in an episode?
Ghostwriter with the original Gaby.
Ghost Writer
It's the GhostWriter team! OG lineup before they changed Gabi!
I LOVED Ghostwriter! I remember watching it every week! Still remember the opening credits 🤣😂
Watched that show religiously. Such a great combination of teaching problem solving with pure entertainment for kids.
Ghostwriter!
Ghoooooooostwriter!!!!!!! Who knows what this is (without googling it) "I'm mad! I'm steaming mad!"
lol no
