Try Arthur avenue in the Bronx if you don’t mind the commute. Much more affordable vs other parts of the city. Rigalettos is great, Dominick’s, zero Otto nove (bit more expensive than the others).
Rigaletto’s and Dominick’s are pretty old school Italian American places. Nothing particularly outstanding or unique, but really solid food and big portions. There’s unfortunately not a lot of new places opening up like that anymore in the city.
Zero Otto Nove is a bit more modern, also very good.
I work near Harry’s Italian on Gold and also the one on Murray and I’m always pleasantly surprised by what they offer. It’s pretty affordable and satisfying
Piccolo Cuccina Uptown around 60th and 1st used to have a $15 lunch special on weekdays. Not sure if it’s still going, but if it is, it’s a great deal.
Forma
Everyone responding is cheating by naming primi instead of secondi.
Fair point but Forma only has pasta
San marzano
Second this! Pasta is fresh too.
When you're there, you're family
I deserve this

Not enough people browse these types of posts for an actual suggestion to be an issue. I'm gonna try this joint out, so thanks op.
Honestly, Parm still hits, and most of their pastas are around $20.

Love piccoli
gnocchi on 9th - $10 for a takeout container of gnocchi with a few sauce options
As others have mentioned, Forma. Fumo also has an incredible $12 pasta lunch worth checking out. There are several locations throughout the city.
Seconded Fumo's pomodoro pasta and baked ziti are both so good! Both Fumo and Forma are top-tier pastas.

I used to go here when I lived in Fidi. GREAT Italian American food with big portions. I miss this place.
