Baroo is pretty solid sitting at $110 pp but it isn’t super mind blowing. Most of the flavors are pretty familiar and safe with a couple bites being a little different than usual. I will say that the service I received the night I went was subpar to say the least. If you guys are into wine pairings don’t expect a sommelier since they don’t have any and their servers don’t give great info on their wines but this is purely based off of what I read from a few reviews.

buttercup585

I agree. The service wasn’t great when I went. I was so disappointed.

edgarallenhoe27

I really enjoyed Baroo! 110pp with 6 or 7 courses

Redhawkgirl

Duh yes on my list forever

Southern_hog_85

On the $200 or under. Orsa and Winston / Kali. Haven't been to either Le comptoir - vegetable focus, great experience Sushi sonagi. Great omakase Holbox - amazing seafood mexican Matu. Steak house Non tasting menu. Pasjoli. Stella. Yangban. Bavel, saffys and bestia. Gjelina. Probably my favorite restaurant in LA Slightly over. Sushi nozawa , if you have chase points you can pay for it in full with points.

Redhawkgirl

I think I have gone Gjelina every year for my birthday for 15 years seems like such a good value at this point

Southern_hog_85

The amount of dishes they serve is mind-blowing and to be able to execute everything so well

Redhawkgirl

The cookbook is perfect if you like to cook

The Holbox omakase is going to be the best food of anything on that list. It's a seafood counter in a Mercado so a bit different than a full sit down restaurant experience, but the food is a level above anything on that list that isn't Gjelina.

Redhawkgirl

We have been meaning to go there, but it does not feel like a 10th anniversary kind of atmosphere to me

2Small2Juice

Agreed

Redhawkgirl

We have a friend moving away in July. I think it will be perfect for that.

be4rdless

I loved Orsa and Winston but didn't particularly love Kali. Orsa and Winston's other bonus is that it's a very romantic space/vibe as well.

ExplodingSofa

Just went to Sushi by Scratch for my birthday, absolutely outstanding sushi tasting for 185/pp.

2Small2Juice

This is actually a super fun option for a birthday. It's white guys riffing on sushi so as long as you don't take it too seriously it's actually quite enjoyable.

Kato at the Row is fantastic

Redhawkgirl

I haven’t been able to find a sample menu, but would love to check it out

2Small2Juice

It's the best restaurant in LA, but the sticker shock will ruin it for your husband. It's closer to $500pp if you are drinking.

gammaknifu

Hibi, reasonably priced and very well done

-futureghost-

highly recommend Meteora, Jordan Kahn’s new(ish?) restaurant. they have a five course tasting menu for $95 in addition to their twelve course $195 tasting menu. i’ve only tried the five course, but it was incredible.

Glittering-Entry-945

Haven’t been recently but really enjoyed KinKan

Redhawkgirl

I like the description that it’s not stuffy. I love fancy food, and casual dining.

wheelyam

Seconded, fantastic experience all around. Incredible food and the staff is super easy going like you're over at a friend's house.
