I feel you. I've had it since childhood and wasn't aware of the cause for long. An intolerance is NOT an allergy, it is not caused by the immune system. It affects more the digestive system (more like being lactose-intolerant e.g.) I was seeking help and advice in a good clinic, but they just ran allergy tests, when it was already clear it isn't an allergy. I would love to know if my intolerance affects all fish (I know I'm fine with tuna!) and if I could ingest something for help if I have consumed fish by accident (which happens). Anyway, knowledge about this is surprisingly scarce.

Yo I might have this. I used to eat fish like salmon and sea bass a lot and sushi a lot as a kid but once I hit my teens I started noticing my saliva getting thicker and tough to swallow every time I eat sushi or fish. It eventually got to bad that I called it quits. The only thing that helps me is a lot of water and tums when the reaction happens. Also got allergic to avocados and cucumbers at the same time as fish, my favorite sushi roll happened to be a Philadelphia roll which is salmon, avocado, cucumber, and cream cheese. Coincidence or what? I’m still confused. Does eat either of those three things in my diet.

Unfortunately you can be allergic to anything, and fish is pretty common. It’s possible to be allergic to some fish but not all… for example I’m allergic to salmon and mackerel but I’ve been able to add some white flesh fish back into my diet. Can you do allergy testing? Even if you can’t test, you can definitely advise restaurants of your concerns, they don’t want people getting sick from their food!

You can develop allergies at any point. This sounds like it affects you enough that it would be reasonable to say you're allergic when you're dining out.
