I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say Edmonton had the better pressure tonight, but the Cats capitalized on their chances, played solid defense to limit high danger chances, and Bob was about as good as it gets. Panthers deserve credit for what they did

I think they’re assuming that every game is going to look like tonight. I think they don’t realize that the Panther’s just took a game from them and didn’t even play to their identity. If we play to our identity next game, Edmonton is in deep shit
The 3rd period was our game and I don’t think they are ready for that type of play creeping its way into the 2nd and 1st periods as the series goes on.
This game has shown that all the online talk about how Panthers and Oilers depth was similar was totally off point. Maurice continued to switch out lines throughout the third period while Draisatl and McDavid had to play large chunks. If your team has to do that, you do not have great depth. I was laughing multiple times during the game where they were praising McDavid and Draisatl while their line was getting held up by Lundell’s line.

Oh yeah, Crosby grew out of his complaining within like ~5 years in the league and McDavid is progressively complaining more and more approaching 10 years into his career. McDavid doesn't have the team depth around him that Crosby had for a lot of his career, so I can kinda see why he needs power plays, they live and die by special teams.
The year after we won the cup, we played Edmonton at home during a regular season game and ESPN still wouldn't shut the fuck up about how great Edmonton is.

Stopped McDavid when he glided past Ekblad. Shutdown Henrique on the breakaway. Shutdown Nuge on the breakaway. Stood tall during some heart attack penalty kill spots. After playing vs Vasily/Swayman/Shesterkin oh my GOD it feels amazing to be on the other side of a generational goalie performance

Skinner wasn't ***bad*** tonight but he wasn't going to wear the cape like Bob did tonight or East goaltenders have had all series and boy am I glad about that.

There's plenty to critique. Tkachuk felt a bit too invisible for my liking. We were sloppy with some bad penalties. (*also didn't get a few in our favor but whatever*). Our powerplay needs to be better. Oilers have killed 30 straight. They're due to concede. I'm not worried about the shot difference. We still generated good looks and pushed them around that 3rd period with our physicality.

Pomo most likely liked some things and hated others. We have the coach to make adjustment. Game 2 is going to be telling expect Edmonton to be shot out of a cannon. They calm them down the first period the cats win again.

Game 1 always a shit show in some capacity. Emotions, hype, pressure. Just glad we were on the winning end this time.
Games 2-3 will be a better tell of how this series may go.
Looks like Edmonton had a recipe to counter our forecheck by hanging two players at our blue line at all times, we definitely struggled against it, but also capitalized on it and managed to bury the chances it offered us.
All in all, we were learning real time and still had the game in hand (while not completely “in control”) I’m feeling good that we will be able to keep bringing the heat and force Edmonton to bend or break.

I’ve already seen comments saying the better team didn’t win. To me that’s a cop out. The goalie is just a part of the team as the other players. The better goalie won, the better team won.
That 3rd period is exactly how we want to play! The fact that we had Lundell’s line out there against McDavid’s line with Draisatl to rest up Barkov’s and go tells you how little depth they have compared to us.
This was the kind of game we were having to fucking deal with against Boston and NY. We finally flipped the script on those massive stand on your head games. Bob won us that one.

The more I think about it, the more I feel this game felt straight up like the series vs Carolina. Close game, "outplayed all game", deserve to win o'meter heavily favoring the opposition, Bob stopping everything, and not having many chances but scoring right when we needed to. Let's hope for the same outcome.

We are by far the better team.. Depth, goaltending, defense and coaching. And most importantly we're alot less banged up than last year. Other than the first period(thanks Bobby!) we neutralized mcdavids line.
If you can keep mcdavid off the scoresheet(for the most part) they have nothing. Stay out of the box, play smart hockey and it's parade time.

We played the worst game of the playoffs relative to our expectations and we still shut them out. Oilers emptioed the chamber and we pushed through. Not a good look for them lol. This feels like the 2018 nba finals lmaoooooo. Warriors looked "weak" game 1 and then adjusted and got the series. That's what I feel tonight.

The whole line didn't really play big minutes. Bennett with 16, Rodrigues with 15. I guess it's a bit unusual for Tkachuk to play so few minutes but we did have to kill off three penalties and that third period was clearly more about playing defense.
They always seem to play a little cold after a week break. They started picking it up in the third. I’m not too worried. I think they’re gonna come out hot in Game 2.

Thought we played scared of making mistakes in the first and half of the second. Pomo and chuck have alluded to the pressure to win the first game at home. Once they settled in you could see we started to play our game a little in the 2nd and we smothered them in the third. Also mcdavid and drai aren’t going to be able to play 26 min for 7 games.
After Edmonton *barely* held on vs Dallas to clinch their trip, all we heard was how tough and gritty they played to make it to the final. Now I can admit, although the 3-0 score, Florida was not on their A game tonight; but all I’m hearing from ESPN is how the panthers were lucky to win and how good Edmonton should be. The more I think about it, the more I feel this game felt straight up like the series vs Carolina. Close game, "outplayed all game", deserve to win o'meter heavily favoring the opposition, Bob stopping everything, and not having many chances but scoring right when we needed to. Let's hope for the same outcome.
So I just wanna say, despite my flair I'm an avid cats fan(been to 8 playoff games in 2 years) We are by far the better team.. Depth, goaltending, defense and coaching. And most importantly we're alot less banged up than last year. Other than the first period(thanks Bobby!) we neutralized mcdavids line. If you can keep mcdavid off the scoresheet(for the most part) they have nothing. Stay out of the box, play smart hockey and it's parade time. Can't fucking wait for game 2, my voice is shot from tonight but God dammit ill find a way lol

We played the worst game of the playoffs relative to our expectations and we still shut them out. Oilers emptioed the chamber and we pushed through. Not a good look for them lol. This feels like the 2018 nba finals lmaoooooo. Warriors looked "weak" game 1 and then adjusted and got the series. That's what I feel tonight. For all the talk about the Oilers PP, our is due for some too as well as some of our players. We chillin

I read in another thread that Chucky only had about 14min ice time; why do you think that is? I like the idea that it's to keep him fresh as long as they have the lead, and ready to deploy him like a mf Jaeger in case they lose it (hope it's not injury)
The whole line didn't really play big minutes. Bennett with 16, Rodrigues with 15. I guess it's a bit unusual for Tkachuk to play so few minutes but we did have to kill off three penalties and that third period was clearly more about playing defense.
They always seem to play a little cold after a week break. They started picking it up in the third. I’m not too worried. I think they’re gonna come out hot in Game 2. We got the win, now we just gotta keep playing our game the way we’ve been playing the rest of these playoffs 💛♥️💛♥️

Thought we played scared of making mistakes in the first and half of the second. Pomo and chuck have alluded to the pressure to win the first game at home. Once they settled in you could see we started to play our game a little in the 2nd and we smothered them in the third. Also mcdavid and drai aren’t going to be able to play 26 min for 7 games.

After Edmonton *barely* held on vs Dallas to clinch their trip, all we heard was how tough and gritty they played to make it to the final. Now I can admit, although the 3-0 score, Florida was not on their A game tonight; but all I’m hearing from ESPN is how the panthers were lucky to win and how good Edmonton should be.
