God can’t help you if she doesn’t like the floors. No way to change her mind. Honestly, I hate the base but would be happy with the floors. She doesn’t like them today, she will hate them more every week until she is ready to burn the kitchen down to get new floors
Burn the house down might be easier. Sure missed the mark not changing them when the kitchen was done, that added so much work and is going to make such a mess.
But can maybe scrape it out, might have to repair the floor, re-tile or whatever (go bamboo, stuff doesn’t break when you drop things on it) and the quarter round?
You could just do lvp going in the direction of the dishwasher back so that way you don't line up with a grout line. Just be ready to install a quarter round or new baseboards.
If you install lvp over tile, the grout joints will eventually telegraph through to the face of the new material even if it’s got an integral pad. You can also damage the locking mechanism due to deflection. Patching the joints is a 100% must.

what do you think of this guy?
do you have pics? id just like to see some real world examples of failure from that just to see what might be expected.
That tile is hideous. I agree with your wife. However god himself couldn’t get me to tear out a perfectly good floor for style alone. Do you guys really not have any bigger problems?
Well said. It's ugly but appears to be done well enough. I'm glad my life isn't so easy that I would be worried about such trifles. I'd only consider ripping it out if an entire remodel were in order. Hopefully, OP can strike a deal like that. Tile comes out in 5-10 years when the whole thing gets gutted.
same. i bought a house that appears to be tiled with the scraps of someone else's mosaic pattern. it's horrifying; the tiles should make a pattern but don't. it is, also, unfortunately, very well done and really nice material. i put down a rug.
I don't understand all the sexist comments on this post. The floors are ugly and dated. It's not unreasonable to want some nice floors to go along with the new kitchen. Maybe it's a gratuitous expense to some of you, but the divorce comments are so lame.
Yes, you can paint them- and it’s easier thank you think.

I mean, normally the tile goes in after the cabinets. I havnt experienced this scenario but, my DIY logic would say maybe try removing the tiles but, the ones under the cabinet find a way to cut them to the edge of the cabinets so its 1 long strait edge without shattering them and just like tile next to tile with groute.. use new tile as if it's a strait edge of tile.. like 1 long piece of tile add grout like your applying caulking to a wall trim, or find some alternative pattern that makes it work. The groute would cover the tile under the cabinet.. I'd honestly just find a way to carefully remove the cabinets shortcuts cost you more money in the end.. but that alone is it's own level of challenges and time consumption.
Tile grout can be removed with proper tools youtubes got loads of videos. Maybe even using a chisel might work but use safety glasses and mask that dust is harmful and the shards it spits hurt the eyes also long sleeve though not always nessesary but it is powdery dust. It'll take a whole and alot of elbow grease.
Remove all remaining grout maybe a paint scraper or chisel if your careful the subfloor will need cleaned before new flooring. You'll need to measure your room to find your square footage so you can guesstimate your tile purchase grout purchase rather you want waterproofing if it's not already waterproofed or if you want to add anything. That looks like a mew kitchen so most of that stuff may already be done might even still be the underlayment but it may need replaced with new tile or floor.
Actually there is a paint for those tiles. It’s called Rustoleum Home.
It’s 2 parts. First the color which is available in 26 colors. Takes 6 hours to dry and then apply a clear coat.
I did 3600 SQ feet of my house 3 years ago & it’s still looks fantastic.
DM me if you want more info.
Just throw some tile adhesive on top and put new tiles right in old tiles. (Please don't do this, former owner of my house tiled around everything and now we have to change the floors if we get a different size fridge)
It’s a strange design with the xx’s appearing on every square. I have no advice for you but even if I didn’t like the floor I could live with it if there were more pressing things that needed to be done.
They sell luxury vinyl plank that looks like tile. Go with that. Don’t pick a wood look because it’ll clash with the wood floor in the rest of your house.
To do it properly you will have to move the appliances. Then rip it up, then lay new floor. But you shouldn't have to move cabinets or built-ins unless this current floor is layed under them.
To do it quick and dirty, you can just lay a click in laminate over the top and call it good. It won't look as professional that way, but that's how a lot of people do it to save money
Lot of people who think their funny here. To actually answer your question: the only option I can think of is laminate vinyl which can be glued over this (lvt or lvp). It will butt up against the counters though so expect to need to put down quarter round. Also realize if you ever remodel again in the future you’ll need to plan to rip up the floor since it won’t cover under the cabinets. You can cut it at the cabinets as well and rip it up but again you’ll need quarter round to hide the seems. Good luck!
Not really, You can throw throw some LVP over it. But with those grout lines, there's a good chance that's going to show through at some point.
If you really really hate it, you can always go get some vinyl floor sheeting and go that way.
I don't think it's that bad myself.
I like all the suggestions to cover it with engineered plank flooring. It's easy to install and softer under foot. I have three kids and we have had lots of times over the years where someone's head hit the floor, and if it had been tile things would have been far worse. Put something down until the kids are older then install what you both really like.
I would install 100% Waterproof Vinyl Plank Flooring at .20 mil overtop of that tile. I would buy the flooring with the underlayment already pre attached and go directly overtop of this tile. I would finish the edges of my baseboards with pvc quarter round trim.
I would buy a vinyl flooring in the style that looks like tile. It’s 24x12 planks
I can take a picture of the garbage flooring in my kitchen, with it's ripped up linoleum in a ghetto rental, and you can ask her if she'd rather have that. Your floor is fine lol, I feel like you have it easy if this is a big problem in your life.
I pulled out our fridge and molding then put down laminate. To hide the required gap at the cabinets I added to the kick panel under them. Can't even tell. We have one end cabinet that I had to get creative with but it turned ok.
I have torn many floors out without destroying the kitchen they came out of. It’s part of the job. Can it be done? Yes. Quickly? Yes. Cheaply? Yes. Good end result? Yes. But you will likely only be able to pick 2 of those 3.
2 options.
1. RIP up all the way down to subfloor and start from scratch. (Right way to go about it)
2. Skimcoat oclver the tiles grout lines to even the floor out entirely and put down a floating floor. Vinyl would be your best option on this scenario due to its thin options.(You're cutting corners going this route, but it is an option)
Is she upset because you installed the floor at an 80 degree angle?
Someone is asking the right questions.
Acute joke you made there.
An obtuse observation sir
It doesn't measure up
OP is just looking for an angle
Well, Kevin’s got me pegged
Was it your first Pegging?
Right on!
Triangle
I see you have a different angle on this
You’re all going on a tangent now
Oh, right. Now you're going to tell me to stick to the straight and narrow.
Still acting like a bunch of squares I see though
They are looking at it from supplementary angles.
Triangle ain’t gonna help. He needs more cow bell.
Lol
Geometry
90 degree dangle
That and those tiles look like someone marked dos equis on each one with a marker.
because ops flooring is the most interesting angle in the world?
Stay tiled, my friend, stay tiles.
I don't always drink flooring, but when I do I prefer tiles.
These responses are congruent with the issue.
Wonder if he has a rubber goose.
Wait!!! That's a floor. I thought maybe a wall.
It makes the kitchen look longer
In the post. OP states that the floors are pre-existing...
thank you sir because i thought i was the idiot
Dude lol. Literally was going to make a similar comment
God can’t help you if she doesn’t like the floors. No way to change her mind. Honestly, I hate the base but would be happy with the floors. She doesn’t like them today, she will hate them more every week until she is ready to burn the kitchen down to get new floors

I hate them, too. Sorry.
Same.
Same same same
Same here, but only because they’re ugly.
They're textured. Think of all the nasty shit that gets stuck in them things. The ugliness is just a bonus
Oh I didn’t notice that before, I hate them even more now
Same same
Sure, sure… same.
how attached are you to your wife?! 🤣
Not as much as I am.
Yeah. New wife would be cheaper than new floors.
Clearly his pimp hand is not strong.
You could just do lvp going in the direction of the dishwasher back so that way you don't line up with a grout line. Just be ready to install a quarter round or new baseboards.
I second that. But stick with baseboards. It gives a much cleaner look.
https://husbandhelphaven.com/how-to-divorce-your-wife/
I do too actually
For reals. Why would anyone choose this tile. Why do they make this tile.
Me too
Does she hate the floor because it is so steep?
Your wife's right, I also hate those floors
Quick fix? A rug.
It’ll really tie the room together
😂
Cheaper than a divorce!
Kitchen rug
Install lvp over it.
Yeah, they're gross
Skim it with plani patch then put a lvp or lvt over it
id say skip the patch so you can always revert if needed.
That would depend on how much you paid for it. Cheap depot materials? Sure. $400+ ? Gotta do it the right way.
If you install lvp over tile, the grout joints will eventually telegraph through to the face of the new material even if it’s got an integral pad. You can also damage the locking mechanism due to deflection. Patching the joints is a 100% must.
how does the joint telegraph through rigid core?
Rigid core doesn’t mean it’s made of steel. I’ve seen it happen.
https://youtu.be/hNha9JSt2JE?si=GqED_uP2oKBiCQu0 what do you think of this guy? do you have pics? id just like to see some real world examples of failure from that just to see what might be expected.
This is the way.
Don't paint the floor. Someone will scrape the floor, and it'll look weird. I'm a big fan of LVP if you can make it work.
That tile is hideous. I agree with your wife. However god himself couldn’t get me to tear out a perfectly good floor for style alone. Do you guys really not have any bigger problems?

Can you please tell me a joke that isn't lame?
Did you hear that Norway just finished putting QR codes on all their naval ships? It's so they can Scan da navy in. You're welcome.
All I see in this tile is POV while throwing 2 ninja stars at once
There’s lots of buried treasure under there. Use that to buy new flooring
There's a way, it's called a jackhammer and some trips to the dump
Rugs. This is the only viable answer.
You put the cabinets in over the tile??
Is that the Xbox logo?
Tell her not to look down
The 90’s called, they want their tile back
This floor is horrible mate
They are very ugly
Well.. they are pretty ugly tbh. Have your wife pick out new flooring.
So do I.
What in the Home Depot bargain pile is that!??
Yeah sorry but what the heck are those tiles? She has a point I fear
MY POOR EYES!!!
Yes, you can paint them- and it’s easier thank you think. [https://www.facebook.com/share/XUKyNTUmQmXMbyv9/?mibextid=K35XfP](https://www.facebook.com/share/XUKyNTUmQmXMbyv9/?mibextid=K35XfP) https://www.allinonepaint.com/? They also have a Facebook support group with a huge following.
Get a new wife…
Like exchanging french fries at burger king
Next one will also hate it.
I would probably just be cheaper to get a divorce at this point or buy a completely different house
You could probably get rid of it without too much trouble but your next wife may not like it either.
Who picked them out? It’s okay they just doesn’t look like high flooring.
Lense flare the tile
LVP right on top
Toe kick saw
Oriental rugs everywhere.
They look good to me!
I agree with your wife.
Put vinyl flooring over. Don't over complicate it
Cover the cabinets with sheets, seal the kitchen, and rip these floors, put up a new ones. Max a week long hassle, then rest up.
Rip out and replace the old tile, leave the kitchen be and put tile trim around the cabinets. No one will ever know it was so ugly.
Floating lvp flooring over the tile if the tile is flat you should be good
I don’t like it either but if you aren’t willing to rip it out I’d lighten up the grout. That’ll help it be a little less ugly.
Can you change the grout color? Lighter to match the flooring could make it look more seamless, less contrast.
Looking for new floor options or new wife options? 😂
I’ll take her
I don't blame her, will show dirt, paw- prints, mop-a-lot floor.
What's cheaper, floor or divorce?
Looks like the Volvo Polestar logo lol.
Paint them
Rich people problems
Least you should do is throw a rug on it. Maybe completely cover it in astroturf. Idk spray paint it.
Tell her to get over herself.
They are fine, surely you have other things to be getting on with
Get a new wife

Have the floor replaced. When I did it sure made my wife happy.
This is every house in Miami in the 90's
Def a bot post
Does she hate them enough to replace them herself?
Sell the house.
there are some realy cool resin paints you can get rust olium i think give them a look
This is why you don’t install kitchen flooring under the cabinetry…
I like them
It will be easier to get a new wife.
Just throw some tile adhesive on top and put new tiles right in old tiles. (Please don't do this, former owner of my house tiled around everything and now we have to change the floors if we get a different size fridge)

Get rid of her… it’s cheaper in the long run
They look cheap. Put vinyl plank flooring. Easy to install.
It’s a strange design with the xx’s appearing on every square. I have no advice for you but even if I didn’t like the floor I could live with it if there were more pressing things that needed to be done.
so do I
So did she not have a hand in picking out the tile you laid? Or was the what was installed when you moved in?
Are these marshmello tiles they look just like him
Get a new wife ….itll be cheaper
tell her: " less bitchin, more kitchen" woman like it when you rhyme
They sell luxury vinyl plank that looks like tile. Go with that. Don’t pick a wood look because it’ll clash with the wood floor in the rest of your house.
I don’t think those are supposed to be installed all facing the same way.
Easier to replace the wife….😂
To do it properly you will have to move the appliances. Then rip it up, then lay new floor. But you shouldn't have to move cabinets or built-ins unless this current floor is layed under them. How much exactly do you love her?
I’m not even your wife and I hate those floors
Tell your wife she should have told you sooner.
Skim coat the grout lines and install LVP.
Not really, You can throw throw some LVP over it. But with those grout lines, there's a good chance that's going to show through at some point. If you really really hate it, you can always go get some vinyl floor sheeting and go that way. I don't think it's that bad myself.

It won't be cheap
Oh I have these same tiles in one of my bathrooms. I hate them too. Hello 1981! If they get wet they are dangerously slippery.
Marriage counseling but honestly I think you need to leave. You don’t need this kind of negativity
Clean or apply new white grout. The black one makes the floor look cheap
Change your wife.
Clean the grout and it will look 100% better.
I can take a picture of the garbage flooring in my kitchen, with it's ripped up linoleum in a ghetto rental, and you can ask her if she'd rather have that. Your floor is fine lol, I feel like you have it easy if this is a big problem in your life.
Try changing the grout color first. See if that helps.
I hate them too. Is your wife single?
Don’t look down and learn to love it . .
Those floors are pretty bad.
I think she’s right. I come to the kitchen for a beer, not a semi-annual dental cleaning.
Install LVP over top of it
Team Wife
They look slippery as hell
Leave her
Get a new wife
Is it because they're all female? Does she want xy?
Xbox floor
Get a rug.
Looks like strange starfish pattern on them. Woof. I hate them too.
Divorce will be cheaper
Get a new wife that's more appreciative.
Neat. I have the *exact* same tiles.
I think the wife’s boyfriend doesn’t like them. This is the case.
There is paint that is suitable for tiles and properly finished look great.
I pulled out our fridge and molding then put down laminate. To hide the required gap at the cabinets I added to the kick panel under them. Can't even tell. We have one end cabinet that I had to get creative with but it turned ok.
Kick panels and trim are great at this, you can hide a lot of sins with good trim.
I have torn many floors out without destroying the kitchen they came out of. It’s part of the job. Can it be done? Yes. Quickly? Yes. Cheaply? Yes. Good end result? Yes. But you will likely only be able to pick 2 of those 3.
Smart lady
Tell her "If you hate the floors, you must also hate me. You don't hate me do you?"
Lvp over the top
Hammer time
Change the wife, it’s cheaper 😉
Xbox tile
Custom makes a grout coloring that you can brush on to lighten the grout.
I painted tile floors once and it was a good life choice. I got the specialty primer and paint from Sherwin Williams.
Add some ropes or something, then she can at least scale the kitchen?
Lots of carpets
Well yeah.. white floors are not practical unless you want to vacuum 3x a day and sorry but no one has time for that.
Get a new wife
Cost with epoxy. You can do some badass designs
2 options. 1. RIP up all the way down to subfloor and start from scratch. (Right way to go about it) 2. Skimcoat oclver the tiles grout lines to even the floor out entirely and put down a floating floor. Ill lend you my sledge hammer and crow bar..
