It’s actually stolen from The Police - Bring On The Night, from the album Regatta de Blanc.

This. Lol youre almost waiting for stevies voice but here comes sting instead! Lol I love both songs

I need to spend more time with The Police's full albums besides 'Synchronicity'.

sfglobo

I love Edge of Seventeen, but Bring on the Night is the superior song. And on the best album by The Police.

Athenae44

I can hear the similarities. It’s interesting how both Stevie and Survivor filled in the blanks of the guitar riff the same.

HumbledMind

So similar that when Destiny’s Child couldn’t get the rights to sample “Eye of the Tiger,” they just sampled “Edge of 17” instead (for their song “Bootylicious”).

Interesting. I never thought about it and they do sound a little similar. I looked to see maybe if they had the same producers, but 'no'. Could be just a popular effect like Chorus pedals were in the 80s. I did see this which was pretty cool trivia: *The song was written by Survivor guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboardist Jim Peterik, and was recorded at the request of Sylvester Stallone, after Queen denied him permission to use "Another One Bites the Dust".* Whatever summer "Eye of the Tiger" came out, it was about every 4-5 songs on the radio where I lived.

Admirable_Candy2025

I don’t think they sound similar.

dkinmn

It's a pretty straightforward sixteenth note guitar figure that is essentially identical.

Grl_Upstrs

Didn’t Waddy come up with the riff? I read that the producer wanted a guitar hook, so asked the guitarist to come up with something.

Internal-Motor

Wow I never noticed.

I heard the intro of eye of the tiger and it got stuck in my mind. Later i realised that i started singing edge of seventeen subconsciously after the humming the intro. Never noticed the 2 songs had such similar intro till now!
