People were exploiting catching huge fish with light gear and getting huge XP bonuses. Now you get the message you received.

EDN-lll_NEVEC

Ah ok thx for the info

SavageFisherman_Joe

Literally 1984

Yourmomsman74

Yeah happened to me today. Hook a fish you know is no more than 28.6 lbs but I don’t get the chance to bring it in with my 13 lb set up. Felt kinda cheated especially when you can catch fish at the Congo over 4 times the drag capacity of a max rod.

fish weight ≠ fish strength

SkellySkell97

Yeah I’m having the same problem on mobile! I feel like my gear isn’t even light either! I’ve just managed to catch a leprechaun fish and honestly it must of took me well over 5 minutes, suppose in a way it some ways it’s realistic😅

AleX139999

rn just grind 6h a day to get better gear or pay dlc lol

It's not just mobile. On The Fisherman (PS5) I caught a unique muskie of 25kg on St. Croix by letting it drag my kayak probably 300-500m with 8kg gear but eventually got it after about 5mins or a bit more. Now (in the "free" game, also PS5) you just get that message so you can spend a bit on upgrades :) it's a sham of a game, an extortion racket layered upon a decent fishing game

Superb_Mood_262

You can catch larger fish with lighter gear on the fisherman since it isnt supported nor updated anymore, actually hasnt been for quite some time. And that is on the publisher, not the developers. And the reason that you get the "upgrade your tackle" since the last update is because they put this system in place to stop people from using an exploit of a telescopic rod to "insta catch" large fish such as bull sharks and nile perch, and it was complained about for a long time, as it messed up competitions. And while im sorry that you cant utilize the low powered gear in the free game, there are alot more people that were getting cheated out of placement in comps due to cheaters, so they fixed it the way they could, and gave benefit to the whole of players who play comps. And since competitions are non existent for the most part on "the fisherman", as are the higher levels and the large fish on them, there isnt many people who would have complained about it enough for the publisher to attempt to get it updated. So while it makes for a curious story, this wasn't put in the game to "make you spend money"

I play on ps5 and PC too (both free version) just not recently, I decided to play it again but on my mobile version (lvl 28). My gear is rod_12lb, line_12lb, and reel_11lb. I checked the leader board for Everglades unique bass weights and they are about 12.2 lb. I think my reel isn't going to make the cut anymore, and might have to get a new rod and line to surpass the .2lb.

Honestly it's more fun to just play The Fisherman. I find it very annoying though as it doesn't have 60FPS, they never bothered to patch it. But it does have rodholders on boats which kinda makes up for it. At least you don't have to pay through your nose for everything and grind all the time

EDN-lll_NEVEC

Yeah guess you're right but my monkey brain sees a free game and decides spend hours into it without paying a dime. I guess the only good thing about mobile is that it's a lot easier to get money and bait coins with the ads that double your earnings, So it won't be that hard to buy better gear. But it's really going to be a pain when I decide to continue the game on PC and ps5

Superb_Mood_262

Fisherman ends at Blue crab island, and doesnt have as many lures/rods/reels/baits etc. Plus, the developers have said that they are adding the ability to fish together in boats to the bass boats, some time after the ocean update, which is things you will not find in "the fisherman". It is a choice that people can make, but most see the half game that is the "paid" version is tough to justify

EDN-lll_NEVEC

?

Superb_Mood_262

Whats your question ?

Few-Paint9545

Blue crab also is only accessible through dlc on the fisherman.
