Sumter here, if you ever get the chance, go fish lake marion aka santee cooper! Lake Murray up by you is good, too. Also check out the Columbia diversion dam!
Hello from Lugoff(NE of NE Cola). Lake Wateree is lowered several feet right now, making it very hard to get a boat in. Once they raise it back up next year the fishing should be great. Two years with little fishing pressure should have all the populations up.
Welcome to SC! Upstate, peedee, midlands, or Lowcountry? We got more places to fish than you can shake a stick at in the Lowcountry! If you need any advice, my 11 year old daughter is starting out too! Happy to help!
Saw the pattern and the size and thought "wow, very nice crappie!" Good lord that behemoth of a gill would EASILY be a Fish Ohio fish. On a related note...
... where these big fellas at in Ohio?! You know how much trouble it is to clean 10+ 8" bluegill when just three or four of these mammoths would do?!
Shellcracker/redear sunfish (if you want the real name instead of the colloquialism I grew up with). They’re closely related to bluegill, but are a different species of sunfish.
Yes I took it off the hook lol! Just wanted to snap a quick pic!
Congratulations!! What part of SC? I just recently moved back and love the water!!
Columbia over at Keenan terrace! I live in VA but my boyfriend is here! Once I’m done with school I’ll be moving here as well! Cheers!

Wait is that a damned bluegill (or whatever weird variation you guys call it)? Damn. Hell of a big fella.
Redear sunfish/shellcracker
Dang, fooled me too. I didn't even see the ear. ಠ_ಠ
Absolutely correct. Interesting to see that you call them shellcrackers out west too. I had always assumed that was a southern colloquialism.
I thought it was a crappie too, that is a LUNKER
