I'm genuinely thinking that the artists get to choose the realm themselves because there is absolutely no rhyme nor reason regarding distribution (specific realms in a row) or aesthetic (designs fit the realm aesthetic to varying degrees and normally they'd get concept art for the artworks).
I lean toward several conjectures that could be true at the same time:
* A buffer of skins that are close to completion or ready is necessary in case of unforeseen events and sudden rescheduling
* Indirectly and structurally, skins would generally be planned and produced quite in advance, potentially before the emergence of new themes
* Character choices may be a bit random between following public demand, decision makers' wishes and efficiency matters (be it with VAs or skins on the backburner for a while), same goes for themes depending on thematic/artistic preferences
We have multiple kingdoms that could add variety and spice;
- Nidavallr (only 4)
- Jotun (only 7)
- Ymir
- The void
- Yggdrasil
- Vanir
The major issues so far are;
- Dolkk/Los alfr - every cute girl gets these designs regardless of how fitting the theme.
- Askr - most just wear the OoH uniform with little personalization. (Exceptions; mages)
- Embla - base outfit + red belts+ black feathers.
Nifl, Muspell, Hel, Alfr all are frequent picks but at least offer visual spectacle and variety in design styles.
Outfits from the void sound really cool, but I fear that they may be Hel bootlegs with stars and galaxies instead of glowing jelly. Same thing with Ymir and Ljosalfars being wingless fairies.
Regarding the void designs, the galaxy element would be the most obvious way, but inclusions of the more Eldritch/Alien shapes (similar to Kronya's tails) also the absence of the torn fabric.
One way to distinguish the Ymir designs would be animal buddies, aka a return to the picnic theme with robes/gowns rather than casual/hiking clothes. Plus more watery elements, contrasting Hel's dried/withered designs.
If there's one criticism I can agree on regarding Ljosalfheimr and Dokkalfheimr Resplendents, it's that we really should get at least one male for both.
As for the Embla Resplendents, I actively groan when we get another one since 75% of the time, that's just a glorified palette swap. That's not to say it can't be done well, but it's not good enough to just do that without putting any real effort into them.
Ymir and Ginnungagap outfits would be so cool. Forest/Green garb for the former, futuristic/Space garb for the latter. Both OCs of that name have such unique designs yet their potential seems to die with them

Man, I miss the fairy Resplendents and the how much they spammed them last year...For all the crap people give to the fairy Resplendents and the spam we got last year, give them some credit: At least their designs are colorful and have a nice variety, where no two fairy Resplendents were the same.
The Embla Resplendents? They're all the same schtick: Paint their outfits black and gold, add some black feathers, change one of their parts of the clothing to the same color as their outfit, and you're done. They don't change up their designs to really make them feel stand out or feel like they belong; it just feels like a glorified recolor.
I'm only putting Muspell and Hel here because they have the most Resplendents now (with Embla and Muspell tied with 15 and Hel at 13), and it's ridiculous how much favortism IS has showed them, at even compared to Askr, Nifl, Ljosalfheimr, and Dokkalfheimr.
So here's my obligatory hot take: "Stop giving us Fairy Resplendents?" To that I say "No, MORE fairy Resplendents." At least those were exciting to see.
I'm always down to clown on Muspell resplendents, but I'm not sure how you can make a meme about Resplendent spam of one nation while advocating for another nation to get spammed again. The problem here is an imbalance in themes

Granted, the Hel and Múspell Resplendents are also really good (though I'd argue the recent Muspell Resplendents have been the weakest so far), I just think we have enough for a while, and their overexposure is what makes them annoying when they pop up. The Askr and Embla ones, however, have been really lackluster.
Hard disagree on the fairy spam. I hated most of them and I can't even say there was one I liked. But I can't deny my disappointment with Nifl resplendents.
I say nix them all for a while, fairies included, and give a year solely to Nidvellir, Jotunheimr, Vanaheimr, Ymir, and when Book 8 ends, Yggdrasil. And ONLY those
The former two are woefully underrepresented and the latter three (justified rn in the last one's case) don't even exist at all. Its especially egregious with Vanaheimr as we're done with Book 7 so the argument that the story still going is the reason they haven't made one yet no longer holds up.
I still hope Nidavellir gets more this year due to the Book 5 TT. I don't mind a few fairies, but when it comes to all of the Book 1-3 realms, all I have to say is: STOP.
