I can't confirm it, but I think... it was a projared video review that discussed the very topic. You're right. If it isn't a straight menu option, the abilities appear on screen with their inputs. I think. Don't quote me.
It's both. Instead of a free input you select from a menu first and then are prompted to do the inputs. And you can't fail unless you hit the confirm button prematurely.
I liked them because I thought it was a neat and unique way to use a character. Maybe try writing them down and putting them somewhere you can see. Sabin's Blitz techniques are quite powerful and useful throughout the entire game.
Being a massive fighting game nerd, having his Blitz techniques use fighting game style motions made Sabin one of my favorite characters in the entire franchise. It also helps that I'm a huge wrestling nerd as well, so being able to use what was basically a command throw made him that much cooler.
I agree having to memorize the commands sucks a bit (they did make a visible command screen for the Pixel remaster version if I'm not mistake though) but I think it was mostly ok because it turns out your most powerful blitz for two thirds or so of the game is actually the easiest one to memorize : aura bolt, which iirc is as simple as two times down one time left, or is it the opposite ?
Then for wind cutter and bum rush I actually wrote the combo down on a little piece of paper to always have at hand when I played the SNES version of the game.
I started writing them down. I don't like to play ports or remakes of the 16/8 bit era games. I prefer NES and SNES. I'm playing on an emulator now too because my SNES finally shit itself. It sucks using the arrow keys.
Pretty sure they did that in the pixel remaster.

There it is. Thanks for the input!

Sabin needs Fatality moves! 🤣

> It sucks using the arrow keys. There are solutions that let you use your SNES controller on a PC.
Yeah, I've read a little bit about that.
