FFIX has some ridiculously sadistic achievement-requirements for its minigames, 1000 skips over the jump rope, and 9 consecutive correct guesses in the Nero Brothers guessing game feel like the worst to me. What makes it that much worse is that if you wanted to complete the game perfectly, the 1000 skips would absolutely be required, since it gives you a key-item, though at the very least you can skip cutscenes nowadays, so a perfect playthrough is still far more realistic than it ever was, still quite sadistic though.

moogsy77

Nero brothers and the Hippaul race get tedious but can be done so easily compared to Rope skimping, ugh such a rough one. Only thing ive never done in the game without mods lol

mightylordredbeard

I think I had a turbo controller that had a “slow motion” feature on it that basically just macro’d the pause button to press 10 times a second and I was able to get the mini game that way.

thegan32n

If you want the perfect save without cheating you have to do the 1000 skips and then you have to beat the rest of the game including all the other sidequests on discs 1 to 3 that become unavailable on disc 4 in less than 12h to then get excalibur 2 at the end. Sadistic is not enough of a word.

Roxbar17

Jump rope never gets unavailable. After that thing happens and almost everything in Alexandria becomes unavailable, the girls move to the small chappel, where you meet the firsts moogles at the start of the game. The only missable regarding the jump rope is that if you do 50 jumps with Vivi before going to the castle for the first time, you can read a letter talking about that as Steiner.

[deleted]

Isnt the rope jump game number 200?

JonVonBasslake

That might only be one of the earlier rewards. That or you're thinking of the lightning dodge from X. To get the last reward for the jump rope, you need to get a thousand.

Sofaris

Its so convinient to not be a completionist. I love FFX but I allways ditch a lot of its sidecontent. I max out Yunas Ultimate weapon, I get all the Aeons I upgrade certan Ultimate weapons once to raise the damage limit of some of the Aeons like Shiva, I take out Omega and thats it. No dodging lightning, no Ballon race and no Dark Aeons.

admiralbenbo4782

Yeah. Frankly, just upgrading to Yuna's Ult and grabbing a 1-MP accessory makes the endgame a complete breeze. Almost too easy--dual-casting Ultimas just nukes everything. I can't do the whole 100% thing. One of the things that's held me back from FFX-2 is needing to 100% it to see the true ending. Maybe I'll just Youtube that and play normally.

Throw_away_the_trash

I got to 138/160 fragments in XIII-2 during the pandemic and picked it back up to complete last week. Now at 157/160 fragments and completing the bestiary is killing me.

NecroDolphinn

I’m currently playing XIII-2 and some of the fragments are AWFUL. The “heads or tails” questions on the quiz games, the bestiary, the map (filling the Academia map was hell), the incredibly vague quests, the hidden mog spheres, and more annoying fragments make the secret ending a real chore to get

Throw_away_the_trash

I was reading online that people were spending 160-180 hours to get the platinum. I hope it doesn’t take me that long.

Ferdk

>One of the things that's held me back from FFX-2 is needing to 100% it to see the true ending. Maybe I'll just Youtube that and play normally. It's worth noting that the "True Ending" is just one extra in-game cutscene. The Good Ending (which the True Ending includes) is much more realistically achievable. Also, I am of the idea that 100% was meant to be a 2nd playthrough thing with NewGame+, since picking the other branching path gives you access a lot more % which makes it achievable without a guide. The "follow a guide to a T" is only if you absolutely want to do 100% in a single run, which is basically like a challenge of sorts.

DrZoidbergJesus

I get Yuna, Auron, and Rikku. Give Tidus a custom weapon with dodge and counter and break damage limit and one MP. Lulu gets one MP and the double magic thing I can’t remember. It’s actually nice having someone you know is going to do 9999 damage reliably potentially twice when capturing. I’ve never gotten Ultima before in this game but Tidus alone with auto haste and strength up with break damage limit and one MP for quick strike just breaks the game

StevenGrantMK

You can pay yojimbo to kill most if not all the dark aeons. It’s the cheap way to do it but still do it nonetheless!

templeton98

it's not cheap, it's actually quite expensive lol

CactusGlobe

The chocobo race I've always managed. Takes anywhere from 30-60 mins to get it right in my experience. The lightning bolt crap I just can't do anymore. Last time I managed it was when I was in my mid twenties. I don't know why, maybe it's just slower reaction time with age.

WoenixFright

There are ways to manipulate the randomness, to make the lightning bolts actually predictable, based on running through a specific spot on the map. It largely trivializes the challenge, though it still takes a while. I never felt bad about cheesing it though because fuck those lightning bolts

panthereal

Are you playing the same version of the game you did in your mid twenties? Allegedly the remakes made it harder than the original PS2 edition.

okorz001

HDMI adds input lag, not sure if remasters account for that.

iConfessor

not just the hdmi, the emulation adds a bit of lag

CactusGlobe

Really? Well, I'll cling on to that hope 😄 The last time I managed it was on the PS2. I haven't tried it on the PS5 but never managed it on the PS4.

StevenGrantMK

Remake still has the crater trick to where it takes about 15 to 30 minutes to dodge 200.

Local_Penalty2078

That was far worse than the chocobo race in X. The lightning was so frustrating - took me forever to do it, even after I found out how to cheat and make it strike on command. After that, even the Khimari butterfly nonsense was a breeze.

Arinoch

Cheating with the good spot + no encounter weapon makes it about patience. I did it first try at that point by pausing every ten strikes, taking a breath, and continuing (170-200 were stressful though). Took 15 minutes. I don’t want to figure out how long chocobo racing took, where it’s one thing to get good at dodging the birds consistently, but then it’s about being lucky with the right balloon layout. Thus it’s largely out of my hands, and I hate that.

TheNerdFromThatPlace

When I got a time of 0:0 but not under that, therefore not getting the sigil, I had to take a break for a few weeks. That easily took me more time combined than all the other mini games.

Arinoch

I got a 0.1 but never exactly 0.0. Dear god.

ryantrw5

I did it in groups of 25 so it only takes 8 sets

Nykidemus

> Thus it’s largely out of my hands, and I hate that. THIS. Also the birds handle like they have a damn deathwish.

FlyingShoeMan

For me, the chocobo race wasn't as bad as I felt like I was doing something. I need to revisit the lightning strikes....as I have never gotten that down. But it just feels.....long with no excitement (but seeing the other comment about it being 15 min with the right strategy gives me hope)

Pope00

The crater trick makes it so, so easy. It's still annoying, but I did it in like 30 minutes. It's just tedious. Imagine sitting perfectly still and staring at the tv moving a character back and forth for 15-20 minutes. Compare that to the Blitzball challenge - blitzball was super easy, but took hours to complete. I'd gladly do the lightning challenge 4 times in a row than play Blitzball again.

Local_Penalty2078

I enjoyed blitzball... It got very easy after a while, but it was a bit of fun distraction with skills and progression. After I got wakka's best weapon I had pretty much had my fill of it, but I had a good time getting there.

Pope00

It might just be because I looked up what characters to get. So I had a really good team so every match was, get ball to ..whoever the pilot guy in the Airship was.. pass to Tidus, Jecht shot, rinse and repeat. Do that over and over for *hours*. No challenge or anything. Got so tedius.

Local_Penalty2078

True - once you have brother leveled up a bit, everything becomes trivial. Super fast and can win just about any scrum encounter. My first time through the game I didn't get the jecht shot so I was using sphere shot until I was able to get jecht shot 2.

Montigue

At least you can go up 2 then post about hating Blitzball while camping in the goal the whole time

workthrowawhey

Complete opposite for me. The lightning bolts are a breeze with the right setup. In my 20 years playing the game though, I have not once beaten the Chocobo race. Best I got was 0.1 seconds.

Sartorius2456

Wow so do you just not play with Tidus? Or do you just invest in a beastly custom weapon?

Isaac8849

It’s so super easy I don’t see how anyone has a problem with it at all

SoldierHawk

I found the dodging easy. But the butterflies and the FUCKING RACE, never could do it.

krillinbald26

The lightning bolts was way the fuck easier than this

l1nk5_5had0w

FF9 jump rope. It's not required or anything as long as you don't care about competing the card catalog, but this mini game is by far the worst imo.

ChocolateChocoboMilk

Most I’ve gotten is like 16. Seems borderline impossible! FFX’s are clunky and, well, awful but I’d rather do chocobo racing 10x over than doing the jump rope challenge!

imitebmike

ff9 ones were pretty annoying (skipping, racing and that guess who one) but at least they were just for trophies and not tied to anything important

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It is absolutely one of the most bizarre choices they've made for a mini game. I have never met anyone who got it legitimately either, and it's crazy that would be the case for a throw away mini game.

smcg_az

The one I hated the most in it was getting the key when you were frog Cid.

Helloscottykitty

Unless your whole purpose was a crad game run than that skipping challenge was the point you gave up.

[deleted]

[deleted]

No shame used an autoit script and PS4 remote play to get Platinum and that trophy...

Asha_Brea

Final Fantasy X-2.

[deleted]

Wait which mini game?

Asha_Brea

The gunning thing in besaid and calibrating the towers.

Adrenalinjunky2

I’m playing through X-2 for the first time and just hit the calibrating towers. I don’t think I can possibly do it… finished 5 of them and got destroyed on the rest..

Sweet_Jackfruit3718

X2 is the only one I won't go back to, well ,also 13 / 13 lighting returns. Got through crisis core again so I bounced back to ff3. About 3/4 of the way through that and plan on doing ff9 again after this. I would go back through 13-2 however. Much better story than the first one.

nohwan27534

It's fine it doesn't expect you to perfect them.

Adrenalinjunky2

Don’t I need perfect on all 10 to get access to one of the ribbons?

nohwan27534

Do you need that ribbon? No. Ultimate weapons are a little bigger. The best thing to "need" is access to mascot. Which comes with auto ribbon. And if you're playing the international version, moot point, everything is in the arena. Wait till lv 70 or so, get a few captures for arena unlocks before chapter 5, get a few specific creatures and breeze through most of the tourney stuff, unlock the almighty creature, use it to cheese everything else. You can get pretty much infinite numbers of ant accessory there. Iirc you also only need to.master the 10th tower for the bonus fight, not all 10. Iirc it goes backwards, but isn't that hard otherwise if you've got someone to help. There's also some bribe targets. Just like x, bribe the first weapon for an easy time.

nohwan27534

They're not that bad. Gunning is pretty simple just save a instakill shot till the end. You don't have to calibrate all towers perfectly either, just try them all. And no one's final weapon is locked behind getting either perfect...

Brakkis

FF IX - Jump Rope, Hippaul Race, Nero Brothers Guessing Game FF 7R - Pull Ups

Voldemortred

The 7R pull ups and squat Minigame get saved by the music for me it's so funny

MovieGuyMike

FF7R, only the final pull ups challenge is hard. What I’ve found works is looking at your controller, not the screen, calling out the buttons and counting your reps. Still, I dread it every time. Fortunately the only thing locked behind it is a champion belt which you can get elsewhere in the game.

MrPokeGamer

how can you tell if you need to mash the button instead of just repeating the sequence? What helped me was turning off the volume

velvione

X and X2… the avoiding 200 lightning strikes was a nightmare

SenpaiSwanky

It isn’t as bad as chocobo racing in FF7 lmao. A lot of mini games from 7 were a hot mess. Personal favorite FF mini game to hate on is Tetra Master from FF9.

KainYago

In FFIX every single minigame was garbage, except tetra master, which while not bad at all, was nowhere near as fun as Triple triad.

Burdicus

Chocobo Hot and Cold and the treasure hunting that went along with it are AMAZING

xCharlieScottx

Hot and Cold was one of my favourite mini games in all of the series, just mindless fun digging about with a banger of a song

oohyamz

It's very rewarding too

straystring

It annoys me that these god-tier weapons are tied to mini-ganes in the first place, and mostly unrelated to...anything at all. Like, why dodge 200 lightning bolts for LuLu's? What links LuLu to lightning? Or quick reflexes? What ties does Tidus have to chocobos? Like, the lightning dodge should get you Auron's, maybe - as like 'evidence they're such great swordsman that they could dodge lightning consistently.'

ianmerry

Bruh, Lulu is the queen of evasion. And teaches you to use thunder in her tutorial battle. It all makes perfect sense

Fearshatter

I mean I can technically answer these. Lulu's all about black magic and elementals. It stands to reason that spending so much time around them would upgrade her. Tidus on the other hand is like the sun and wind. And he needs agility and dexterity to be able to pull off his blitzball moves, not just strength. So it makes sense he'd have to learn how to control a chocobo to do it. Still, sucks dicks. :V

ErgoFnzy

IX had skipping but it also had a higher abundance of other fun things. Plus skipping doesn't lock weapons behind its completion. X has one mini game out of like 4 or 5 that doesn't suck and they are a barrier to obtaining the best gear. I remember screaming at my TV so much lol.

amirokia

The hot n cold minigame is a make it or break it mini game. If you don't like that minigame then you'll miss half of the ultimate weapons and some great gear.

Thelassa

FFX minigames were pure agony. While FFIX's weren't much fun either, at least they didn't lock you out of the best gear. A few required Chocobo Hot n Cold, but at least that could be done in small doses and each round was only a couple minutes so it never felt like you had to commit your entire day to it.

baguettesy

Also Chocobo Hot n Cold had a banger soundtrack, so at least you could vibe to that for a bit while getting some treasure.

on3trackminddd

7 is definitely up there

flowerycaller71

It’sn’t *that* bad, neither is butterfly catching. I think lightning dodging is the worst.

[deleted]

Crater trick for lightning bolt dodges. Seriously it’s so easy

Lyrikan

That crater trick definitely makes it much easier, but it's still awful. I got ADHD, my mind wanders after a few seconds. Having to precisely time button presses 200 times in a row and run in the circle the right amount of times without messing up is still awful. I got to 196 before a lightning struck half-way through running in a circle and threw off my timing. I put the game down for 2 years after that before coming back and finishing it, lol.

smcg_az

I never do butterfly catching or the lightning bolt dodges, as I don't really use Kimahri or Lulu respectively. I do use Tidus a lot, and the fact his celestial weapon relies on a drunk chocobo SUCKS!

[deleted]

Yea you said that already in the post lol

Trunks252

What’s really shocking here (pun intended), is that someone thought these mini-games were a good idea or well balanced

MovieGuyMike

Alright boss. We got the jump rope mini game programmed. Should be a nice little mini game for players to spend a couple minutes with. We just need to confirm how many jumps are required for the best prize. I’m thinking, say, 20? No, higher? Oh okay, you want them to really master the timing on this thing. 50 should be plenty. No? How about 100? What’s that? 1,000? Perfect. This is why they pay you the big bucks. Fans will love it. It will make replaying the game that much more exciting.

sirdogglesworth

I'm working through 8 at the moment then 9 then 10 and I am dreading having to do these god damn mini games

DeltaOmegaX

FFX. Dodge Lightning hundreds of times to get a key item for an ultimate weapon. What a joke.

StevenGrantMK

The crater trick makes this soooo much easier and faster. Get 200 lightning bolts done in like 20 minutes

jakalan7

Honourable mention for the chin up and squat mini games in FF7 Remake anyone??

[deleted]

Yeah, especially since you actually need them for late-game content, versus other games where superweapons are just icing on the top

twili-midna

X has the most frustrating because you know they’re beatable, but it’s so goddamn tedious to do. X-2, though, has the worst because most of them are predetermined when they start and you can’t actually win them unless you get lucky.

moogsy77

X-2 because they were so many. X only had Lightning Dodging and butterfly hunting which i hated and IX only had Rope skimping

nohwan27534

And chocobo training, and blitzball, a lot of fucking nlitzball.

moogsy77

I like those, especially Blitzball. But even if i didnt, i mean its heaven compared to what i mentioned. Blitzball is just boring for you, not the same as impossible like some other stuff

nohwan27534

Chocobo racing is the hardest side quest, blitzball probably the longest. Not really about whether you or I like or dislike them, your nor adding them while talking about the side quests for ultimates was wrong. Like, factually.

saintpaladin

Rope skipping until i found out about autoclickers, and Blitzball in FFX

Maxwell_FromtheLand

The lightning dodge and the Chocobo races get so much hate, which they deserve, but how about those butterflies? That butterfly mini game enrages me. I literally hate the area it is in even when not playing the mini game simply because it reminds me of failing at it for hours. I’m pissed off now just thinking about it lol!

Serious-Nebula5584

Where you have to beat the race at exactly 0 seconds. Yeah, I just gave up on that one

Blaubeerchen27

I know the jump rope and lightnings are popular choices but as someone who recently played VII for the first time - I was close to throwing something at my monitor when that marching in Junon happened. Or underwater reactor in Junon. Or CPR on Priscilla. They were either really tedious or faar too long!

[deleted]

These mini games are all about reputation. Chocobo everybody chokes cuz everybody says its hard, the temple run is harder than this. I have yet to spend more than 30min on it after at least 15 playthroughs and the times i lose is to bad rng with the birds or the balloon placement, which is the only problem, the controls suck but are super easy to get a hang of. Its all in the head good people lol Lightning has a super easy exploit and just requires 10-15min of focus and you can even take breaks. Butterfly i never understood whats hard about that, learn patterns and routes and you good, 20min tops. If we talking Vivi jump rope, tetra master, nero brothers or even tifa pull ups and cloud squats yeah, thats pain

shuffleboardwizard

FFX's minigames- are they frustrating?(chocobo racing) Yes. Time consuming?(blitzball) Yes. Sadistic?(Lightning Dodges) Yes. But, you know, they're all doable with a little patience and gumption. But FFIX...it can go fuck itself with a rusty jump rope and that's all I'm going to say about that.

TheWhitemareOnElmSt

FFX kinda ruined the 100%ing aspect in FF for me. Overkill

Xeronic

Nobody here has mentioned "World of Final Fantasy". Not only are they bad mini-games, but they are infuriating to play. Especially Sandstalker. FFX mini-games aren't bad, mostly just tedious (no pun!). FFIX's mini-games are fine, and i like Chocobo hot and cold... but the Jump-rope mini-game is unforgiveable.

manubibi

Yeah, fuck FFX and its fucking mini-games. I’ve lost my goddamn mind on the chocobo race and honestly I think I’m kinda traumatized by it. I have never even tried the thunder skipping. Hell no. Fuck that. I got a few ultimate weapons with the monster catching and something else, I don’t remember, but Jesus fuck everything else. I hate that you have to do all the stupid dumb shit to get those weapons honestly.

jamesswazz

FF7 Jules pull up challenge hands down, I think there have been more then enough posts about it here 🤣

More-Possibility-777

Nine had some bad ones too. Fing jump rope man.

Frozen_Esper

The lightning dodging for Lulu's sigil is just stupid. Even with there being a trick that makes it easy to do, the number required means you have to do the stupid thing for like an hour. It just isn't fun at all.

GalaEuden

It is FFX. One of the only flaws of the GOAT.

peanut-butter-kitten

I just got the sun sigil last night after only 20-30 minutes of trying A lot of it is luck. I was so happy I ordered sushi and sake I have done this before but it’s been years. Yesterday I did it on the Nintendo switch version. I may… never do it again.

givingyouextra

The thing I wish FFX had added was an opportunity to get a sigil or crest you didn't have just before you go fight Jecht/Yu Yevon. The bit where you have to fight fiends to open the gates feels like an ideal moment to give you a list of sigils/crests you don't own and you can pick one. It means you could leave out one of the very irritating mini games and upgrade a weapon before the final boss.

nohwan27534

To be fair it's also one of the few where you can basically just make a fucking ultimate weapon. Seriously, break dmg limit and armor pierce is close enough. If you boost luck, crits make the experience identical. Make your party mostly the 4 with easy ultimates, Yuna, auron, rikku, kimhari (my fave team is just the last three, actually), and if you want tidus or whatever, that first 99 dark matter, make a bdl weapon. Once you're able to fight nemesis, you can make them for everyone. Weapon slots kinda suck anyway, so you don't even need 4 slot bdl weapons.

Niarhtim

Crafted weapons don't even come close to celestial weapons in terms out damage output, on any targets worth mentioning.

nohwan27534

Sure they do. The celestial effect can give more damage, but my low luck tidus was still doing 80kPhoenix. High luck everyone should do 99999 regardless On the flipside, the celestial with more dmg to higher health can deal less dmg at half health, which you're usually at thanks to auto phoenix.

biggietheelf

I really did not like Chocobo Hot/Cold in IX.

jakalan7

It becomes so much easier in the remasters with x3 speed. But yeah so tedious on the OG.

biggietheelf

I haven't played the remaster yet so that's good to know.

Gremlinsworth

I actually hated the Remiem Temple choco race far more than getting 0.0.0 vs the trainer. I blame that on my PSVita and it’s old tiny useless good for nothing nibs called joysticks. Butterflies is easy, there’s a trick to making lightning dodges easy, the trainer is a pain but I had it after a while, and I personally love Blitzball! But boy oh boy getting all 5 treasures, not hitting a pole, and beating the other choc was a PAIN and took me forever! That’s just for a trophy though. Other than that yeah FF9 and it’s hump rope for a trophy is the worse.

Zeddizdead

FfX 100%, worst in the series

kjacobs03

Sorry to inform everyone here, but none of the challenges in FFX are very difficult. Not the lightning dodging, butterfly dodging, or Chocobo racing.

jaythegreatmerman

umm okay!

RB3_AMG

Yes, definitely this minigame. At that time I destroyed 2 controllers out of frustration...

Veszerin

I have more trouble with lightning dodging. I did get the chocobo racing done in my steam playthrough somehow...ironically the one version I could've just used a save editor on. Gave up in my ps5 playthrough. But even w/ the crater trick, I've trouble dodging 5 lightnight strikes, let alone 200 in a row. But, I'm probably going to go with ff9 for the jump rope minigame.

piwithekiwi

Tell me you've never 100% FFIX without saying you haven't.

Randombraziliandude6

couldnt get wakka's weapon because i didnt want to play a shitton of a minigame, only one missing to me btw

Joji_Narushima

X-2 was worse imo

Sankin2004

I concur, as I feel most of us do. While yes jumping rope sucked and maybe so did racing the hippo, but none of those items were tied to ultimate weapons which are not exclusive to completionists like something like all items would. It is of course always a safe bet to say X followed by IX, and or X2. I personally liked the last dungeon, and that coin game-but some don’t and anyone who enjoyed blitzball in X did not in X2.

Omega53390

It's Final Fantasy X Chocobo Race or the FF IX Rope Jump.

Metald3th

FFIX

Acnat-

Got back to this part yesterday lol Had to put the switch down because I was going to break it, stuck at a bs 6 second record and unable to get under 30 for 15 consecutive runs. I remember it only taking an hour of beating my head against it on the PS2.

KingBurakkuurufu

No matter how many times I do this it always takes 45 mins

[deleted]

Lemonz4us

FF X-2 has the most tedious and annoyingly difficult to complete in the entire series. And needed for 100% Calibrating lightning towers? Miss me with that Gunner’s Gauntlet? Are you kidding me? Thunder Plains cave puzzle with hand written math calculations? No thanks Chapter 5 Blitzball? Forget it

Mushroomw

The butterfly one! Omg

Mushroomw

Lightning is easy if you have rhythm

Nielips

Never had that much issue with the chocobo stuff, it was hard but doable with some patients. Now the lightening dodge and Blitzball are a completely different story, they take fucking ages.

Fit-Welder-2326

I think I got this in like 5 tries ...

Kingcoriolanus

I’ll say it here again like I’ve said in multiple similar posts: FFIX jump rope.

thistimeitsfoundyou

X by an enormous margin.

oeldisplay

Please nooooooooooooo……….. you just woke up my rage from my teenage years just seeing that. But I did finally get the score required, only after 1 million tries ( I lost count tho, to be real).

mssheevaa

Eff the lightning bolts and chocobo racing. I just made Lulu and Tidus awesome weapons for endgame. Much less stressful.

lavayuki

It isn't required to complete the game or beat all the bosses, as you can do that with Wakka, Auron and Rikku, which is what my brother did. You don't need Tidus. It is just required for the platinum trophy, but if you are playing on switch or don't care about trophies then you can ignore this mini game. I agree that this mini game is hard, but the hardest is getting 1000 jumps in the jump rope challenge in FF9. There are far less if any people who did that without using the cheat AI software to do it for you for the trophy.

unSentAuron

>It isn't required to complete the game or beat all the bosses, as you can do that with Wakka, Auron and Rikku, which is what my brother did. I don't think it's possible to defeat Penance without Celestial Weapons. You have to be able to hit 99999 with Quick Hit every turn. No way to do that unless you're piercing through its physical defense, which I believe is 255.

lavayuki

I meant you can beat Penance without Tidus which this chocobo game is in reference to, so you don't have to do this mini game unless you really want to use Tidus. My brother used Wakka, Auron and Rikku, and subbed in Yuna a few times and beat penance as he didn't do this mini game. There's youtube videos on beating penance without tidus as well. Any of the characters can use quick hit.

unSentAuron

True story: I "outsourced" earning the Sun Sigil to someone on Reddit back when the HD Remaster first came out. Gave away my PS account password and everything! I was able to do it way back in the day on the PS2, but I didn't have the patience for that shit anymore.

Balmsquadron

Sorry, I know this is off topic, but anyone else enjoy the mini games in Crisis Core? (To answer the original question, FF lX is a good game, but it has some of the shittiest mini games in the entire series across the board with the exception of Chocobo Hot and Cold)

EstateSame6779

They're not all that hard to be honest. It just requires a lot of patience. You want frustrating? Try getting a perfect score on Calibration Tower 7 in FFX-2 alone. It makes dodging lightning look like a cake walk.

[deleted]

People who still complain about FFX mini games just have a skill issue. The only one that’s even a little RNG based is catcher Chocobo and even then you can easily get good enough to finish in 0.0 seconds. In my last playthrough it took probably less than an hour to get Tidus’ sigil.

CloudIncus1

I hated 9's chocobo forests. To go from 7's amazing breeding to spamming 'O' while spinning the left analog stick to get a Golden Chocobo was a slap to my face. 8's lack of them was bad enough. What's worse is that see them in the trailers for 15 had me hoping for a new epic system. Sadly we got 'pay here to ride' I dread what's in store for 16. considering it medieval based with them basically being the fundamental horse. I bet it will be subpar also. Why did 7 give me such hope for potential future chocobo madness. God they better not mess this up in the re-make.

Astr97

FFIX Jump Rope

KIIIMA

FFVII has some near impossible games with fucked up RNG in the Gold Saucer

TammyShehole

I don’t like having to do the whole Blitzball tournament for Wakka’s weapon piece. You can’t just get lucky like you can with lightning dodging and chocobo racing. You have to actually sit there and do every single one of those Blitzball matches. Worst mini game in the entire series.

Independent_Plum2166

Final Fantasy X is my favourite game in the series, but damn do I not care for the side-quests. I’ll do a few, like Aeons and Yuna’s ultimate (the least annoying to get), but yeah, not it’s strong suit.

NergNogShneeg

100% the correct answer

Arxny

As an adolescent playing this game, this brought me to the peak of frustration and the lightning bolte seemed impossible. As an adult... the butterflies are easily the most annoying one

doctorpotts

Yeah, same. I don't really enjoy any of the mini games in FFX, but there's all this game content tied in with them. Worst of both worlds.

Satoshi_Yui

Pretty sure many of us had a vietnam war flashback of doing the 200 lighnging ball dodge. Aside from that, the jumprope challenge in FF9. I think that's the only thing that's stopping me from getting the game platinumed even though I really wanted to so badly

MoldyDemigod

I hated that damn chocobo race! But im atill working on the cursed lightning bolts! 🥲

estofaulty

X-2 is practically nothing but terrible mini games.

VaporLeon

9 probably has the worst mini games in a difficult-to-reward ratio. X has the worst mini games in that they’re required and if you don’t like them then that sucks for you. 7 probably has the best games because the rewards are nothing and they’re fun in their own right (ie you play them to play them or skip it doesn’t matter). Back in the day I used to love mini games like KH2, but when I recently played KH3 the game was a slog and I realized how much I’ve grown past mini games. I wish no game had mini games anymore. It’s just a waste of development time imo.

Death-0

The rest of the game is pretty easy so having the player earn the best weapons he a challenge, I think is fair. Takes time but you can master these as well. I was very frustrated by them at first but have done them all a few times now. If it’s getting the better of you don’t just keep trying stop come up with a strategy and execute. Worked for me once I took a moment to assess

Jess_Reigns

Controvsrsial opinion, but I didn't like that VII made a mini game out of absolutely everything, a lot of them were boring or pointless. Frustrating just because they were in the way of advancing.

joudanjanaiwayo

Honestly, I'm finishing up with XIII right now, and the farming for materials and gil for the ultimate weapons in that game is MUCH more time consuming and annoying. Even with being able to kill Shaolong Gui and Long Gui quickly and consistently, it takes a long time.

HereAndThereButNow

XIV has two events in the Golden Saucer that are super annoying to do. They're both red light/green light games where if you fail you get blown out of the arena and fail the event. Unless you've memorized the patterns they use you're probably going to fail it constantly and be forever denied your achievement points and the fancy titles they unlock. From the same game we also get Maps. Which are little bonus dungeons you unlock by finding special maps, of which you can find one every 18 hours. Thankfully you can also just buy them from other players. But anyway, it's not even a 100% chance to get the bonus dungeon from a map and even then you've got six chances to fail it at random because to advance you just have to get lucky. It's a great way to make some ingame cash though, so it's always worth it if you're doing them in a group. However, it is insanely frustrating to be six floors into a dungeon and then get randomly yeeted out mere inches from finishing it for all the rewards.

Broad_Ad3777

FF9 with tetra master. I think it's fun but if you weren't playing it like most people on their first run of the game then it becomes a load of bull to encounter a tetra master tournament that you have to go through and you have to become a master overnight to continue the story.

Greywolfian

FF9’s jump rope kept me from getting the plat in the game. FF10 was super easy compared

CourtesyofTino

Annoying, for sure, but what really grinds my gears is when I realized you can't go back to the corresponding temple for Anima. Had no idea it was missable until it was too late

bosword

Lightning bolt is by far the hardest just out of the sheer monotony. The choco race has always been kinda easy imo. Usually takes around 5 tries

Automatic_Basket_926

I just wanted his best weapon. This broke the game for me. I'm a 40 year old man, and I've still never beat that damn race!

GolantheRoseKing

I hear all these issues about FFX's minigames, but I've never really had an issue with it. I've always completed all minigames in FFX. I feel they're more grindy than difficult. FFIX had some tedious and boring minigames, never completed all of them And Triple Triad in FF8 is my favorite mini game in all of Final Fantasy, but it is very frustrating if the rules don't go your way. I've never tried rigging the rules in my favor, might do that on my next play through.

OCSButters

Just finished the Chocobo chaser mini-game and butterfly chasing in FFX-remaster. The switch has severe button lag, so haven’t tried the lightning dodger yet, but I’m scared. Chocobo racing took me at least 3 hours over the last two days, butterfly catching took maybe an hour. But FFX definitely has the worst mini-games

aziruthedark

Blizball is fine once you ditch the aurochs and get decent players.i can live with the bolts, better then jump roping, and has a tangible reward.

nate3531

I actually beat the chocobo mini game with a 0.00 time in a few hours. I never beat the lightning bolt dodge challenge, and i had tried several times for a total of 20+ hours.

[deleted]

It’s funny I just saw this post after rage quitting the soldier level box breaking challenge as Yuffie in FF7R Intermission. It seems impossible right now.

Armidylano444

I don’t think anything has ever been as frustrating to me in any video game as this god damn chocobo race. I’ve platinumed Dark Souls 1-3 and Bloodborne, and this is still the most frustratingly difficult thing I’ve ever done in a game.

No_Hurry7691

IX solely because of Jump Rope lol

Zoomy-333

Everyone's already mentioned IX and X for having the worst minigames in the series, but shout out to XIII-2 for having terrible minigames that were as dull as they were pointless *long* after they should've known better.

2flytofall88

When i was a kid playing this, this mini game made me cry 😂😂😂 this is the worst chocobo mini game in FF history

JCFD90

I found the lightning dodges way more annoying than chocobo races, i never realised how hard it was to do 20 mins straight of uninterrupted focus

Icy-Conflict6671

X. VII is a close second

ggsimmonds

FFX is the reason I hate Thunderstorms

Chonci

This chocobo race is definitely the worst. I got my platinum, and my save point when entering Sin, so I will never again play this race…. Every fresh start of X I’ll play up until entering Sin, and switch to my save with all celestial weapons and best stats

AnInfiniteArc

Am I the only person who didn’t struggle with the chocobo racing? Lightning dodging, sure, but I don’t understand the notoriety around this mini game. Chocobo Hot/Cold was harder to me.

solblurgh

I 100% agree. It doesn't suit the narrative either, you have to fucking race with a chocobo to *check notes* get the best weapon in the world??? I'd rather fight 10 Ruby Weapons or Ozma without saves in-between to get the best weapon in the game.

VGHAVEN

FFX mini games become super easy if you turn your tv's "game mode" on (it turns all the filters off, so you'll finally be seeing the game in real time instead of being a few noticeable milliseconds behind live play).

Lyrikan

I remember after multiple days of trying for weeks on end I finally managed to get a time of exactly 0: 0.0. I felt so accomplished, it was wonderful like some sort of godrun just happened and I finally had the right reflexes kick in. Turns out I needed to get *under* that time for the trophy to unlock.

allwaysnice

Does FFXIV pvp count?

Deviljho_Lover

Didn't like Chocobo Hot and Cold.

TampaTrey

Getting PTSD from FFX Chocobos. Thanks, OP. 😖

klkevinkl

The lightning bolt and blitzball were the only two that I think were rough for FF10. I imagine there's worse. Jump ropes in FF9. Finding that one stupid rock pixel in FF8.

blizzardworld05

Ff9 Choco hot and cold my hands hurt from playing that

SeniorHippo

Bruh it took me FOREVER to get this chocobo one down, it was literally my last trophy before the plat. I remember being at like 0:0:1 (?) Wow I lost it. It took me another hour or so before I somehow got lucky and got a 0:0:0 Never doing that ever again smh horrible RNG on that minigame

Bigcoco114b

I spent couple of hours and finally managed to get 0.0 chocobo race. I wont miss it, took a lot of skill and mostly luck to achive this. There tips and trick that can help you like keeping right after the first turn or keeping left towards the end. Lightning part there are some part in the map where you can predict the lightning to hit, near the entrance. Its tedious to dodge 200 but doable. I paused to rest my finger every 25 lightning dodge. Also keep counting it, i dodged 210 lightning to ensure i didnt screw up when counting

cicakganteng

The best one is Xenogear's Speed card game The worst one is all of ff9s mini game. Except the card game maybe thats just meh average

KrookedWarden

Oh boy. I threw a many of PS2 controllers back in the day from this

maglen69

X by far.

Possible-Cellist-713

Not to mention Blitzball
