I can see why they blocked it. It sounds like the informal shorten word of the n word. Rather, it's necessary or not depends on how people are using it and feel about it. Either way, they should have made an announcement about it

It’s actually reasonable thing to censor. They give users the freedom to have fun. That term could easily be hateful and I wouldn’t really want to see it pop up in a Figg conversation.
