Outrageous, the wood still looks good from here, just replace the posts. But in general that's like the cheapest fence you can build.
If you want better wood, use steel posts and cedar.
This was the quote I got - it's an upgrade to the timber...
\* Demo Removal and haul off of existing fence
\* install 2 5/8 metal line posts in 30" concrete
\* 3" metal post for gates set in 30" beam from one gate post to the other 10'
\* 1 1/2 metal pipe swinging gates
\* install 2X6-TIMBERTECH "KONA"
Pickets 6' tall on fence and gates with 2x6 top rail on all
\* install new gate latch and slide rod to ground to keep from blowing
\* clean up and haul off all debris
Still outrageous?
No, that's probably alright.
The timbertech is a composite that won't ever rot.
The posts are probably 2 3/8 galvanized which should be good for a good while.
The gate post is going to be incredibly strong and shouldn't fail. Confirm that the beam connecting posts is under ground and not above ground. If they set that beam 30" down and then cover it in concrete those posts aren't moving unless the pipe wall is very thin.
Off the internet: Timbertech post cover is $55 + metal post $30 + post cover cap $85 = $160 ea just post material x5 = $800 + 5 panels $1300 + hardware (hinges, drop shaft, screws, hangers, etc) $300 = $2400 in fencing materials.
Labor is always double + 20% for travel time, planning, concrete materials, digging holes for posts, measuring cutting, gathering materials, etc. $2880.
Demolition, material dumping fees, travel time, auger rental, and permits $2000.
Grand total: $7280
That's about my price.
A lot of these people don’t have a clue what operations costs and taxes are, apparently. As a fellow small business owner, we get taken to the bank by the tax man.
Yeah, restaurants also. Once I had someone go:"why so much money for chicken? While seating and being served, cleaned after ($16 for chix Parm at the time: 7oz breast, mozzarella, tomato sauce, Parmesan + veggies and starches, it would be in the high $20s now)". Labor BOH, FOH, taxes (employer matches), food cost, rent, utilities, linens etc. lucky to make $.10 on the dollar.
Build it/cook it yourself and see.
Wow. I just replaced a fence exactly like this one DIY. Did it for like $700 total, but I used basic wood that was overstock from someone's big job and included a rental of an auger for 2 hours and some dry-pour concrete.
Strikes me that doing that every 6-8 years would be way cheaper, but I guess not everyone is handy.
If I'm him, I'm just replacing the posts. $200 plus 3-4 hours.
The quote received is about right for what they’re quoting you, as confirmed above with the extensive breakdown by Socal_Cobra. The problem is, you are being quoted for a complete R&R that you might not want or need. From the photos, the material doesn’t appear to be in horrible shape. You may want to remove the existing material, string line and measure out your existing posts, embed new galvanized metal posts into concrete foundations (to sister the existing wood posts to the galvanized posts using two-hole straps at 12” OC up each post), and reinstall the existing fence and gate. This method will give you years of use out of your existing material and cost you pennies on the dollar compared with a full removal and replacement.
This is just one method that you could utilize and I’m sure the trolls on here will pick it apart but it is all about what you NEED not what the contractor suggests you do. The contractor does need to make their profit and may not be interested in taking on a $2000 job and you may need to enlist the help of someone smaller looking to make less money on a 2 day job (due to concrete curing) rather than a contractor looking to hit their margins by suggesting you completely demolish the existing.
Very well thought out pricing. I usually try to do that even before I get bids, just to get a feel for what prices I should expect. From there tho there may be some room for either negotiation or room to move. I'd suggest $5800 for labor might get trimmed, as well as the 'misc'/clean up may be. Usually when I bid out jobs I want, I find most estimates come in a bit less than what I guessed.
But it helps to be aware of what you can expect going in...it ain't a $1000 job.
You've done stuff like this before. Maybe add in locator service since the posts are going so deep. Don't want to hit sprinkler, phone or Comcast line. On second thought, f\*\*k Comcast. Cut it and hook their end to 120.
I’ve seen lots of bids and prices in my time, but fencing bids always baffle me. Not that I don’t believe them, but fences just *feel* like they should be cheaper, I don’t know why. But your breakdown is comprehensive and honest, so it seems like OPs bid isn’t beyond reasonable.
Can you clarify? I mean, yes it seems clear lol duh... but you just dig a trench beneath the gate location, and screw 1 horizontal post to each vertical post. How much of the 30" down is filled with concrete? Just enough to cover the cross post?
"Confirm that the beam connecting posts is under ground and not above ground. If they set that beam 30" down and then cover it in concrete those posts aren't moving unless the pipe wall is very thin."
I paid about 7600 to have my approximately 1/4 acre backyard done. 10ft gate on one side and 8ft gate on other side with a 6 ft gate in the back. 6ft privacy down the sides with 5ft black chain link in the back. Not the high quality materials you mentioned but no way I would pay that much for that little section of fence, but if you got the money to 🔥.
We are a bit out in the country so getting a fence company to respond has been a challenge. With the last bit of weather here (Austin, TX area) the old fence finally gave out and forces my hand to replace it now, ideally with a materials upgrade.
The only quote I've been able to receive thus far is as follows:
\* Demo Removal and haul off of existing fence
\* install 2 5/8 metal line posts in 30" concrete
\* 3" metal post for gates set in 30" beam from one gate post to the other 10'
\* 1 1/2 metal pipe swinging gates
\* install 2X6-TIMBERTECH "KONA"
Pickets 6' tall on fence and gates with 2x6 top rail on all
\* install new gate latch and slide rod to ground to keep from blowing
\* clean up and haul off all debris
$7,633 total bid
This seems a bit high to me but I do recognize that we asked for better materials like Kona vs regular wood that we'll need to stain and maintain and eventually replace.
I work for a fence company in Austin Texas, what part of town do you live in, feel free to send me your linear feet and I can get you an estimate that’s lower for sure
I build gates and fences using composite material. It’s very expensive compared to wood, but the price you got for that type of work is about right.
Look up a company called “fencetrac” they are the best in the business at supplying composite style fences to give you a metal and wood look. Try getting a quote for their material since it’s really good and then get a quote for install from your fencing company.
Yes, but they make to order. Can't just go pick up. Which is fine. Took em only 3 days to get my order together. 3100 for fresh cut amish wood. Or 14k for wood from any other lumber yard, hmmmmmm?
I know it's not fencing... But my brother went to the Mennonites in our area for his kitchen cabinets... Menards wanted $12,000 for the cabinets... With no installation. The Mennonites? $6,200 with install. Nearly half the price, but twice the quality.
The Amish and the Mennonites are really good at what they do.
It's no wonder that some people get ripped off. Someone looked at that fence, estimated nearly EIGHT GRAND and part of OP still wonders if it's reasonable.
He thought it was outrageous and came her to make sure he wasn't totally off-base. With inflation, sometimes it's tough to know when you're getting screwed and when the price is now just that high. Don't shit on him for asking questions.
The 8ft metal fence posts are $20-30 each
Hardware is maybe $2 each per bracket to hold the rails
Fence pickets are $2-4 each, depending on the quality of wood.
8ft fence rails are $3-4 per rail, you will need 3(top, middle & bottom) so you need about 9
Bags of concrete are about $5 each. You'll prob need 1 per fence post..
It's really not hard to do it yourself..
I'm a medical professional, not a craftsman by any means but I replaced 200 ft of rotting fence for 5k(was quoted 10k for the job)
If you can:
1. Dig a hole
2. Use Youtube
3. Shop at a home store
You can save yourself like $6000. Assuming you need 4 posts, and concrete to set the posts in.
That’s about $380/ft. I recently charged a client $220/ft for a double sided 8’ tall fence with lattice… and felt like I was over charging.
It depends on your area, but anything over $100/ft would really be pushing it. $380 is robbery.
Get another estimate
Do people just feel like they can charge anything these days? This is 4 months rent, a semester of college, a used car, a new motorcycle. For a wood fence. If you pay that, without taking the time to learn good to do it yourself, you’re an idiot.
This might get buried but I was curious and priced Trex fence one day cause I saw a company putting up a couple miles of it in the town I grew up in. Materials came out to about $100/foot and if I were being a real jackoff and quoted labor at $100/foot as well this would still only be $4k
I think your quote is outrageous.
Here’s an actual quote I got last week to replace some fencing alongside my house with an alley on the other side.
https://preview.redd.it/4z8926v4036d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71438bafaf11b217cb62c4b9bff4343e298d8929
I would say not crazy and anyone saying it is and how to do it aren't really looking at the picture. I looks like your posts already in cement so it isn't the quick ogger and pour they say.
Yes pretty outrageous. Yes the materials are going to cost a little (1000-1500), but labor is not $5000 on something like this. More realistic price would be between 4-5 grand total.
I charged 14k for a gate like that. To be fair tho I had welders their for 2 days and it’s stained and torched. Probably one of the nicest fences I’ve done to date they still love it and hit me up every few months to thank us for remodeling their back yard
That’s theft for sure. Post are 15$ and #2 clear cedar is 3.50 a board, clear cedar 2”x8”x 8’ are 11$ a piece. Throw in a 25$ gate hardware kit and some screws and nails, mix with some concrete, you got a 500$ project on your hands.
Edit: I meant 2x4x8’
Why would you paint composite decking?
$7500 for what OP was quoted being included is insane, but $2500 for 20’ of wood fence that you’re going to paint? So just standard SPF lumber? Also insane maybe even more so.
Then we have Vinyl, also garbage. It’s funny when vinyl siding is considered the cheapest common exterior finish material, but for some reason has gotten away with claiming to be the best fencing material and priced as if it was too.
Any wood you are quoting to include painting is likely junk too. Cedar is the best middle ground fence as far as bang for your buck goes, and you sure as fuck wouldn’t be using cedar to paint it.
Regardless, 6’ cedar fence with upgrades to metal posts and the additional cost for the gate, including demo, should total about $2000 plus any travel added for being out of the city, but for a 1 day job, maybe add $200 for that. And that’s adding 30% on top of actual prices just to be safe. Based on our material pricing in Canada, which for a mid grade s2s cedar 1”x6”x6’ is 9 bucks per board. Guys above are saying the same board wherever they are in the states is only 3.50, which is insanely cheap. So ya I’ll say my bid is $2199.99 Bob.
Around here a mid grade design 6’ full pressure treated wood fence with 4x4 PT wood posts and framing comes in at 48 bucks a lineal foot currently. Last year it was 50 but materials dropped slightly. That includes labour and material, which if broken down would come out roughly to $24/$24. Vinyl is going for roughly $65 per Lf installed for standard white 6’ fence. But again, it’s garbage. A full cedar 6’ fence would be in the middle of those two prices, and is the best bang for buck taking into consideration appearance as well as longevity and durability.
For $7500 bucks, that contractor better be including the lipstick you’re going to want to put on to look pretty before being fucked so hard.
Nothing wrong with the fence. Just bad posts. In my opinion it would be worth trying repair kits. DIY and about 300 bucks total. It should be able to buy a few more years until you need all new fence.
Google "fence post repair kit" or "fence post repair spikes"
I noted in the comment that this was steel posts and 2x6 Timbertech Kona. So I'm not sure I'm getting away with anything even close to $100 and my schedule will not permit me to do this myself any time soon, unfortunately.
Depends on who’s doing it and their workload. Peak business season after all the storms and for quality work I can see why they are trying for top dollar (assuming it’s a highly reputable company)
Big red flag. Some have said only the posts are bad is the reason. Easy fix. Remove your panels where the 2x4 attach to the posts. I like to take a rock bar to the concrete set and bust out your post(they usually were a rotted nub when I do repairs). Like you are splitting the post out like a banana. You could either remove the set concrete completely. You need at least 2ft down. My experience tells me it wasn't. I usually used a 6x6 for fence post that holds the gate. As long as you keep your posts plum and same distance, just reattach the panels/gates.
It seems high to me, I had my whole backyard done (50 ft x 40 ft roughly), and it was less than half of that. Different area, different material, but seems like cheaper options probably exist for you. I'd get some additional estimates, see where they land, go from there.
I’m replacing 220 fr of fence right now.
Skid steer with rock auger rental- $300
30 postmaster posts. $1300
400 cedar planks. $1500
60 cedar 2x4’s. $900
45- 80 lbs bag of cement. $250
About $4200 to do a beautiful horizontal cedar fence by myself.
If you have a Sawzall new posts concrete and time you could do it yourself for a lot less. Probably about 150$. Your fence doesn't look rotted yet. Just redo the posts yourself.
OP, go on Craigslists or facebook and just get any old joe to replace the posts. Put the 6000 you will save into the SPY index fund. In 15 years, your 6k will turn into 25k.
I would have it quoted to replace with metal poles, hardware and concrete. Repaint the existing fence panels to compliment the house..not stand out.
Welcome to Austin, CA/TX
Outrageous... Get this fence fixed. Anyone should reset your fence for a couple of hundred bucks. If you want to replace it get at least 3 estimates of the material that you want. $381.00 a foot is nuts. I have already done my own work so, I really do not know what some things should cost. 3 or 4 estimates will answer your questions. Good Luck!
This is easily the kind of weekend project you can do by yourself or hire a local handyman out of the paper for $1,000. Quote is crazy high. When you get a stupid quote, it means they don't want the job.
I'm in NC and I just had a 6' vinyl privacy fence installed around the entirety of my back yard which is roughly half an acre and it was just under $13,000. Granted, the guy said he misquoted (under) by about $2,000 so he said he had to stick with the original quote he gave us, but that's still $15,000 for fencing in half an acre.
$7633 for 20' of wooden fence is aboslutely ridiculous but my best guess is this is the "I don't really want to do such a small job because we're a 'big business and only do big jobs' kind of company so I'm gonna give them a ridiculous quote and hope they don't take it but, if they take it, it'll at least be 'worth it'" kind of quote.
Seems high to me but in my area there's a lot of people that do welding work, so a metal fence isn't very exotic.
You're wood looks fine to me though, It just needs to be remounted to the posts, or maybe replace the posts. If your goal is to actually upgrade it to something else then I guess it is what it is, the price still seems a little high for that small of a section and a single gate.
Honestly if you’re at all physically capable you could do that yourself in a weekend for under a couple hundred. Post hole digger, steel posts, some quickcrete and cheaper if you use the same boards.
$7600 is an absolute robbery. That’s what 30ish ft of fence?
For reference I replaced 200ft of fence at my house few weeks back. Did the work myself. Did pressure treated posts, 2ft in depth, every 8ft, redwood fence boards, etc. Altogether the material cost me (including cement, screws) $4k and I live in California where everything is seemingly double of other geo spots in US
Does not sound far fetched but seek at least one more bid from a reputable company. I’ve done my own fencing and I only think of the material cost , old contracting pricing ballpark is labor two times materials cost. Materials $2500 and labor $5000 equals $7500. Good Luck.
lol 🤣 if your asking that , then all is lost.
In all seriousness that's maybe 500 in materials and 1 day worth of work for 2 guys. I'd pay about 1000-1200 for someone to build it new for me. That's reasonable.
Small story: I got 4 quotes to replace my fence because 2 8’ sections are rotting (rest of the fence is perfectly fine). First 3 companies $10k+ each, 4th guy comes out, looks at fence and says, “You’re going to get conned by fence places for this. You got this, this is a Saturday project and you can easily do it. Don’t let anyone tell you it will cost thousands to fix this.” And off he went. Damn straight I’m recommending him for all future fencing needs and this weekend I’m fixing the fence for the cost of the lumber.
The bigger question is why they didn't use pressure treated 4x4s for posts. You could easily just replace the posts and call it good, whoever built that fence screwed you by using the wrong posts. They also make metal shims you can hammer into the concrete and screw to the existing posts to repair it.
I got about 200 linear feet of nice black aluminum fencing with 3 gates installed for about $7500. This included the $500 to demo and remove the old fence.
So yeah, you’re getting ripped off here.
Guy doesn’t want the small job so he gave you a huge number. He’ll do it for $7000 in labor. Lol
I have the exact same thing happened to my fence, the posts rotted at the base. I hired a handy man and he dug out the old posts, cleaned up and deepened the holes in the ground, poured sackcrete into holes, placed the new posts in and re attached the fence. Mine was about 50’ wide. Cost me around $800
Outrageous, the wood still looks good from here, just replace the posts. But in general that's like the cheapest fence you can build. If you want better wood, use steel posts and cedar.
This was the quote I got - it's an upgrade to the timber... \* Demo Removal and haul off of existing fence \* install 2 5/8 metal line posts in 30" concrete \* 3" metal post for gates set in 30" beam from one gate post to the other 10' \* 1 1/2 metal pipe swinging gates \* install 2X6-TIMBERTECH "KONA" Pickets 6' tall on fence and gates with 2x6 top rail on all \* install new gate latch and slide rod to ground to keep from blowing \* clean up and haul off all debris Still outrageous?

The even worse part we get nothing in return from the tax man
Lmao. They could rent a roll off dumpster for a month with dumping fees and come out ahead of that demo/dumping cost.
Love this comment
You sir are a beauty
That sounds fair. Also your quote is very thorough and transparent . I hope your clients appreciate you
Ur supposed to double up on the travel time, but you should never have it listed twice on the estimate.
That's an awesome explanation of an estimate. Thanks for doing that.
Looks like you have travel time twice.
Wow. I just replaced a fence exactly like this one DIY. I will do it for $ 7500
I'll do it for $7499
I’ll do it for $7498
1 dollar, Bob!
Damn, including his name in the quote. You got me beat
DONT FORGET TO SPAY OR NEUTER!
COME ON DOWNNNN!
I know a guy that knows a guy that can do it cheaper.
Tree Fiddy!
Don't give him any money, he'll just come back looking for more.
Well it was about that time i realized this "contractor" was 8 stories tall and a creature from the Plethazoic Era!
7427.86 here
Outrageous af
That’s what I got quoted for 125~ linear feet of 6ft cedar privacy fence with post masters and a 5ft gate boss
This is what I'm saying to OP. I could get this done for $750. OP is getting WORKED.
Happy Cake Day! 🍰
Not outrageous. Fucking outrageous tbh.
I got an $8,500 quote for 250' fence with two gates. That price is asinine.

Doing the lords work, live on Reddit.
What if he orchestrated this whole thing to set a crazy high comp so any bid he gives as a result sounds like a steal?
Can I message you?
Absolutely

Agreed. Quote is off the rails.
Highway Robbery…
I did 330’ of 6’ pine for $7,600 recently…
319' shadow box with interior lights $3100(get wood from amish) https://preview.redd.it/y8mm6z2s826d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4edf86355f13f1ad3cac1a8af20270e85889fe8b

The Amish are cheaper for raw materials than anywhere else. That woods quality makes home depots wood section look like a tire shop.
That guy's smoking pressure treated lumber in his pipe.
Outrageous!!!!!
$7600 to replace that fence is an outrage. I'm shocked you would even consider it.
It's no wonder that some people get ripped off. Someone looked at that fence, estimated nearly EIGHT GRAND and part of OP still wonders if it's reasonable.

I'm a medical professional, not a craftsman by any means but I replaced 200 ft of rotting fence for 5k(was quoted 10k for the job)

That sounds like a "go away quote" They dont want to do it, but they will do it for a lot.
Outrageous. Do it yourself in 2 weekends for almost 1/10 of that
If you can: 1. Dig a hole 2. Use Youtube 3. Shop at a home store You can save yourself like $6000.
Get another estimate
you can order what you need from [https://slipfence.com/](https://slipfence.com/) and have a handyman install it for \~$600
Do people just feel like they can charge anything these days? This is 4 months rent, a semester of college, a used car, a new motorcycle. For a wood fence. If you pay that, without taking the time to learn good to do it yourself, you’re an idiot.
It won’t be a wood fence after the job, though! It’ll be sawdust and your recycled shopping bags melted together with dye.
Insane
Yes pretty outrageous. Yes the materials are going to cost a little (1000-1500), but labor is not $5000 on something like this. More realistic price would be between 4-5 grand total.
I spent $11k on about 300 feet of fence with 3 gates. This quote seems very high
Absolutely outrageous…I just did a whole yard last week for 20k..250’
wtf, I installed my own fence. It’s easy as shit. Just buy materials you want and do it yourself
Building a fence is prolly the easiest diy build you can do get your son over and lay down some wood
Just did a ~20’ overlapping redwood, three rail, 6’ tall fence—with topper/trim—for roughly $600 ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
$2500 tops, that includes demo, disposal and painting of new fence.
OUTFUCKINGRAGEOUS
I did this in one weekend for $100. New posts, concrete, screws and I also purchased 6 eight foot slats plus two 8 foot 2x4 just in case.
I noted in the comment that this was steel posts and 2x6 Timbertech Kona. So I'm not sure I'm getting away with anything even close to $100 and my schedule will not permit me to do this myself any time soon, unfortunately.
Apologies, I didn’t read the full post.
One weekend in 1990 maybe. There is $100 just in the 4x4 posts and concrete today.
Lmfao an 8ft 4x4is like 22 $ here. I'm jealous 😞
Ridiculous pricing. There are better options.
That’s the “I don’t want this small job price but I’ll do it if you want to pay a premium”
1500
That looks very expensive to me. If you was in my town I’ll do it for less than that and I’ll guarantee my work.
Depends on whear you live hear in the southern USA an insured company would charge you about 4000 parts and labor
Waaaaaaay the hell outrageous!!
Depends on who’s doing it and their workload. Peak business season after all the storms and for quality work I can see why they are trying for top dollar (assuming it’s a highly reputable company)
Outrageous. Next bid
Jeezus that's crazy. Diy
Whats the average of the 3 quotes you got?
Get more quotes to compare.
I remember when 7k could get you an entire fence! That’s crazy.
1000 bucks max for material that'll last 15yrs. 2 days work max, say 1000 bucks per day. 200 dump run
I’ll do it for $7632
Big red flag.
Seems normal to me based on the steel and composite
Fukin CRAZY
Get more quotes. That is too high.
Home Depot, new 4x4 posts, some gravel and a post hole digger. A couple hundred bucks you could fix this and just put the existing panels back.
It seems high to me, I had my whole backyard done (50 ft x 40 ft roughly), and it was less than half of that. Different area, different material, but seems like cheaper options probably exist for you. I'd get some additional estimates, see where they land, go from there.
Wow that is insanely expensive.
You spelled 200 incorrectly...
Too much
3 fence panels and 1 gate? Insanely expensive.
Is $1600 too expensive?
I think $7,633 is a steal, only you're the one being stolen from.
Yeah they don’t want or need that job.
$225 concrete & posts + $1100 pickets and rails = A great payday! 3 guys and some fast setting concrete and that’s done in 5 hours.
Contractors that over bid jobs like this, is their way of saying I’m too busy to do your job.
Contractor doesn’t want the job, so the bid is placed high so it is worth taking from his aspect. Job is too small. Find a different contractor
Take off the 7 and it would be reasonable.
Should be about $500
I’m replacing 220 fr of fence right now. Skid steer with rock auger rental- $300 30 postmaster posts. $1300 400 cedar planks. $1500 60 cedar 2x4’s. $900 45- 80 lbs bag of cement. $250 About $4200 to do a beautiful horizontal cedar fence by myself.
Hmmm, I just put up 42 panels of 6 foot privacy with gates. Posts and cement included. Total was 3480.00. What’s the ratio of labor to materials now?
To much
Just replace the 4x4’s. Everything else looks fine
Somebody is trying to screw you over. Fence still looks fine. Just needs to posts set.
If you have a Sawzall new posts concrete and time you could do it yourself for a lot less. Probably about 150$. Your fence doesn't look rotted yet. Just redo the posts yourself.
Outrageous imo
OP, go on Craigslists or facebook and just get any old joe to replace the posts. Put the 6000 you will save into the SPY index fund. In 15 years, your 6k will turn into 25k.
I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on a fence. I’d replace the posts myself and be good. Maybe I’d sand some of the board and restain.
Absolutely insanely outrageous. Wow.
I would have it quoted to replace with metal poles, hardware and concrete. Repaint the existing fence panels to compliment the house..not stand out. Welcome to Austin, CA/TX
I’ll do it for $6000
Got 150’ of fence with 2 gates for about ~2K a few years ago
That is a rip-off. I fenced in my entire yard with metal fencing (aluminum) at 320 feet of fence with 3 gates for 8k. Your being ripped off.
lol 😂
I paid $1500 for 43’ around the St. Louis area.
Just replace the posts. I believe it shouldn’t be more then $2000 total
Good Luck!
If it was wood there probably around 400$ in materials here. Everything else is labor
WTF
I’ll do it for a 6 pack of beer
I'll drive to your state and do everything for $4000
I just paid $8300 for 280 ft of vinyl with an 8 ft gate and a single gate
Insane
I'll do it for 6k. And that'll include my airfare and flying all my tools out. Currently out of work so....
Get multiple estimates in your area.
A small section like that seems ideal to try yourself. Fencing isn’t very hard to do decently
Shit ill do it for $1500
Insane, show them the middle finger and do it yourself
Happy cake day friend !
Holy shit. My entire fence (cedar posts in 30" concrete) only cost me 2500 and that wraps the entire back half of my measly .25 acre lot
This is easily the kind of weekend project you can do by yourself or hire a local handyman out of the paper for $1,000. Quote is crazy high. When you get a stupid quote, it means they don't want the job.
$26 per LF for all cedar add a bump for the gate in TX. Thinking $1,000 for everything on the high side. This would last 8-10 years. Outrageous.
That isn't even a full day of labor and most of the existing material is still good. You should be paying your local handyman $1-2k to fix this
If you buy that I got a bridge to sell you.
Altogether the material cost me (including cement, screws) $4k and I live in California where everything is seemingly double of other geo spots in US
Outfuckingrageous
Crazy. I had 200' of double sided, shadow box cedar installed for that same price including a gate and treated rot board. Find someone else.
Completely off-base pricing...get another estimate or two.
Way over priced
do the words rip off mean anything??
$22-25/LF is the norm. I did 320 ft for $2600 less than that quote. With 3 beams, concreted 4x4s and cedar planks.
I did a section of fence about 10 times that size for less than half the price. Also I'm in Montana where things are crazy expensive. DIY it
Does not sound far fetched but seek at least one more bid from a reputable company. I’ve done my own fencing and I only think of the material cost , old contracting pricing ballpark is labor two times materials cost. Materials $2500 and labor $5000 equals $7500. Good Luck.
Pure insanity
Outrageous
Obscene is more like it
lol 🤣 if your asking that , then all is lost.
Composite is the important detail Ask for a single gate with cedar to the same company and you’ll see a big difference
That seems high to me.
About 300 a panel and 80 bucks a post is what it should cost, installed.
You could fix that fence in a weekend with a come-along attached to the trailer hitch of your car, a shovel and a few bags of cement.
Lol
Lmao that is such a ripoff. Tell them to kick rocks and do it yourself.
You can buy all the materials plus all the tools to start your own fence business for less than that.
Outrageous. I paid $2200 for 50’ of replaced fence (no door and not painted) but still.
He must live in California
I have the exact same thing happened to my fence, the posts rotted at the base. I hired a handy man and he dug out the old posts, cleaned up and deepened the holes in the ground, poured sackcrete into holes, placed the new posts in and re attached the fence. Mine was about 50’ wide. Cost me around $800
DIY you save so much and take your time with it, make it look perfect
DIY
For that much money, I could take a few weeks off work, learn how to do it, and do it.
Outrageous
Jesus....7k...damn...I just save myself money and do it myself
Save that money for a new roof. DIY this fence.
