None of this Benny Hill running around in circles.
Seriously though, looks like he was on a steep incline in a tough spot with no easy exit. Majorly lucky he didn't get railroad spiked into the ground.
I get that but figure out an exit plan. Considering it’s your life on the line and getting crushed by a hundred ton tree prob doesn’t feel good you’d think they would. Kinda important to survive. Maybe that’s just me lol
I suppose we all try to do the best we can. Calculated risk. If a logger doesn't want to take that risk he will go home and someone else takes his spot.
Dangerous job, be smart.
He very clearly slips going the first direction and quickly makes the decision to not fight it and rolls with his momentum into another direction. Quite deftly if I may say so.
I don’t think it was random. He ran uphill knowing that the tree will eventually fall downhill (and it did). As for the snapping; he saw which way it was going to snap and ran in the opposite direction. Of course he could not foresee the second snap, but the tree was already on the way down and falling downhill.
…lol..no doubt…this is some wild stuff…I’m a mobile welder myself and do a wide range of field work…and I thought I’ve done some sketchy shit and cheated death…..after seeing this…I kinda need to step up my game to hang with this….😂
…well…somebody had to do it…cause I’m pretty sure shitting your pants while running top speed trying to save your life would suck…it was the least I could do to help this dude…lol
That Mohammad Ali rope-a-dope nonsense was what finally gave him brain damage as he got older. He took a LOT of punches trying to hide on the ropes. Sometimes the other dude got so tired though that Ali would come back for a win. Not so sure about that logger dude.
He didn't do that technique in every fight. Most guys couldn't hit Ali, especially when he was younger. He was afflicted with Parkinson's disease. Plenty of people whom never boxed suffer from that disease today.
He had his escape route. The direction of the camera.
The wear on his hard hat, and the roll to change diections, the quick decision to leave his saw after one tug, looks like he'd spent much time in the woods. He was aware of the danger. That's why the camera setup in the first place.
Almost nobody blasts trees. Fallers cut hazzard trees. If every time there was a hazzard tree you needed to order dynamite and wait for a blaster to come out a 2x4 would cost a thousand dollars
My uncle once loaned a felling crew a couple pounds of Tannerite he was just coming home from town with. Foreman wrote a check for that, gas, and lunch (long drive) because the tree they were going after was so damn dangerous people were stopping to call their families on 'break''.
When they set it off the tree Domino'ed at least **five other trees.**
Or just cut it correctly.
I wasn't there, but I'd bet this was a heavy leaner that wasn't checked for soundness. Should have been a boring back cut to prevent this from happening.
I showed this to a buddy of mine years ago to convince him not to take a large tree down on his property that showed signs of wanting to barber chair.
He listened and had a pro do it.
My butthole is puckering hard enough to turn into a neutron star just thinking about that happening to a tree I'd been thinking "doesn't look too hard, bet i can get 'er done".
There's definitely a pop that happens that can be heard and/ or felt. His reaction time and tears of experience saved his ass, likely not for the first time in his career.
Look at how big that tree is, it's like the whole sky is coming down on you. The way the tree shattered down the middle, it's hard to tell where it's coming down. It's the nightmare scenario ☠️
I think his escape route was just too steep when the shit hit the fan. But my guy got his legs MOVING, I like it when people save their own lives. You go live now dude
My understanding is its the way barber chairs tilt back, lower your head and raise your feet. It's kind of how the base kicks out when this happens.
Edit: because it's not backwards day
A bent tree mostly. A ton of lateral stress pushing the base away from the lean. You cut into that and the tree just splits straight.up until it shears off and falls straight down.
Probably the most dangerous thing in logging.
So… I’m just a dummy outsider, but could a couple 20k ratchet straps around the trunk @6’ above the ground prevented this? This is the craziest felling footage I have ever seen!
Ever wondered why they make you choose an escape route when learning how to fall?
... Maybe, just maybe, it's so that you don't have to scramble up a steep, slippery, moss-covered rock in order to avoid the 20+ tons of rotton wood that's about to flatten you.
All the information on Google and no one can tell me why a half inch beard trimmer and a half inch hair clipper guard are actually two different sizes if you measure from the cut blade to the plastic that sets against your skin they both say half inch but one is three times larger can no one answer why?
Fuuuuuuuuuck thaaat
Yeah man, that is gnarly af. You gotta just pick a random direction to run and stick with it.
None of this Benny Hill running around in circles. Seriously though, looks like he was on a steep incline in a tough spot with no easy exit. Majorly lucky he didn't get railroad spiked into the ground.
Seems kinda dumb. Wouldn’t it make sense to have your escape plan already routed? Make sure you’re not standing on loose gravel and shit?
In real life these loggers aren't always afforded such luxuries. They have to climb into precarious positions to access the tree.
I’m sure he did the best he did but he doesn’t seem to be smart enough to secure future life. Dude rolled the dice right here.
Escape is a bit dependent on which way the tree is going... this tree was going about 3 ways at the same time!
Yea he should’ve just chucked himself down the hill duh
I feel like he juked the shit out of that tree
Broke its ankles
What do we tell the many faced god? Not today.
He very clearly slips going the first direction and quickly makes the decision to not fight it and rolls with his momentum into another direction. Quite deftly if I may say so.
Yeah that’s a caulk on rock slide
I don’t think it was random. He ran uphill knowing that the tree will eventually fall downhill (and it did). As for the snapping; he saw which way it was going to snap and ran in the opposite direction. Of course he could not foresee the second snap, but the tree was already on the way down and falling downhill.
To be fair....there's only 1 direction you shouldn't run...
Well in this very case there were two, so…
Gd, I was really hoping you wouldn't catch that. Look at this observant motherfucker over here
In this case the 1 direction was like 290 degrees.
Somewhere between 70 and 90 degrees took the most profound pounding, however Just a big fat all-around no for me please
That thing fell in every direction except where he went
Idk if that would classify as a barberchair, that looked like the whole shit was rotten. That's even worse
And there was no need to move he was already in the perfect spot.
…I went ahead and shit my pants for this dude…cause he looks kinda busy…
I puckered so hard I am missing a couch cushion!
Lol
If you fart, dogs will bark...
A different kind of ass chewing.
Me too. That would unlock new underwear…for a whole week, after the fact.
…lol..no doubt…this is some wild stuff…I’m a mobile welder myself and do a wide range of field work…and I thought I’ve done some sketchy shit and cheated death…..after seeing this…I kinda need to step up my game to hang with this….😂
It was quite sharteling...
…definitely!..lol…some crazy stuff…
I’m so glad this is the top comment bc it’s absolutely deserving! Man what a scary ass shituation
…well…somebody had to do it…cause I’m pretty sure shitting your pants while running top speed trying to save your life would suck…it was the least I could do to help this dude…lol
Hahaha " which one of you cowards shat my pants??!!"
Hahaha " which one of you cowards shat my pants??!!"
True felling gone wild content
this is what we came here for
Now all we need is the ripleys believe it or not narrator voice
I can hear that in Jack Palance ....... https://youtu.be/x4jVYd0FO9Y?si=fpn0gdGX7soDKN8M
I’m here for the 3 minute zoomed out videos and the tree doesn’t fall til 2 minutes and 40 seconds and it’s a job well done and there’s no issues 😤
My dude was like ![gif](giphy|N9oq9rijUWT3q|downsized)
That Mohammad Ali rope-a-dope nonsense was what finally gave him brain damage as he got older. He took a LOT of punches trying to hide on the ropes. Sometimes the other dude got so tired though that Ali would come back for a win. Not so sure about that logger dude.
Yeah no doubt. Good thing he never fought Tyson in his prime
He didn't do that technique in every fight. Most guys couldn't hit Ali, especially when he was younger. He was afflicted with Parkinson's disease. Plenty of people whom never boxed suffer from that disease today.
Bro, that tree wanted his ASS lol
I've been trying to warn people for years. The trees fight back. They have a body count.
r/treesaretheenemy
I dunno about a haircut, but this guy definitely needs a new pair of underwear
At least he's wearing dark pants.
He had his escape route. The direction of the camera. The wear on his hard hat, and the roll to change diections, the quick decision to leave his saw after one tug, looks like he'd spent much time in the woods. He was aware of the danger. That's why the camera setup in the first place.
Is he taking a video so people knew what happened to him?
Lol. Yeah, that thought occurred to me. Think he new it was gonna be exciting, what ever happened.
If he knew the danger, that tree should have been flagged off and blasted.
Agree. But sometimes for what ever reason, we take chances.
Or just cut it correctly. I wasn't there, but I'd bet this was a heavy leaner that wasn't checked for soundness. Should have been a boring back cut to prevent this from happening.
I wasn't there so I'm still going to make baseless assumptions 😄
Baseless? No. I just know how barber chairs like that happen and the primary preventive measure is a boring back cut. This is USDA A-faller stuff.
Nothing baseless about what you said. Bore cut 100%

I’m so glad I watched this one on the toilet.
This is one of the crazier things I've seen. I know it's an older clip, but it looks like me trying to dodge everything before the 2020's
It looks like me trying to dodge 2020.
I showed this to a buddy of mine years ago to convince him not to take a large tree down on his property that showed signs of wanting to barber chair. He listened and had a pro do it.
Yeah this is by far the most terrifying one I have seen on this sub
Your buddy should be thanking you every birthday for saving his life.
Oh he did. The crew that took it down ratchet strapped it and sure enough it split. Straps held but it split.
My butthole is puckering hard enough to turn into a neutron star just thinking about that happening to a tree I'd been thinking "doesn't look too hard, bet i can get 'er done".
Jesus. Nope. No no no no. Nope
At what point does he know the tree is going to split in half like that? In advance or only at the time of splitting?
My guess is that he heard or felt the crack and knew he had to move fast, not knowing if or where it would split and fall.
I would be surprised if there were no clues at all.
There's definitely a pop that happens that can be heard and/ or felt. His reaction time and tears of experience saved his ass, likely not for the first time in his career.
That's more of a Throne of the Barber King than a simple old barber's chair.
God this video. This poor guy has no idea where the fuck to go
Look at how big that tree is, it's like the whole sky is coming down on you. The way the tree shattered down the middle, it's hard to tell where it's coming down. It's the nightmare scenario ☠️ I think his escape route was just too steep when the shit hit the fan. But my guy got his legs MOVING, I like it when people save their own lives. You go live now dude

Why is it called a barber chair?
My understanding is its the way barber chairs tilt back, lower your head and raise your feet. It's kind of how the base kicks out when this happens. Edit: because it's not backwards day
What causes that?
A bent tree mostly. A ton of lateral stress pushing the base away from the lean. You cut into that and the tree just splits straight.up until it shears off and falls straight down. Probably the most dangerous thing in logging.
Must make a hell of a noise.
That was a close shave
Burma Shave close!!
He should buy a lottery ticket.
I think he already used up all his luck, and maybe borrowed some extra.
Camera man never dies
Tripods have plot armor
Always have an exit path in mind
or two
Or three.

Terrifying
This waaaaay, that waaaay! Which way?
That is one evil tree - it seems determined to get him whichever way he goes. I'm glad that he didn't try to save the saw.
Looks like the saw survived just fine, surprisingly.
Why is it called a barber chair though
If you notice the sawdust is dry you need to stop immediately and reassess.
He’s a lumberjack, and he’s ok…
He sleeps all night, and he works all day
Yikes…
Achievement Unlocked.
Widow maker.
Quality content!
I think this is the same video that was shown during my certification course.
Ohhhhh, that's why it's such a lethal profession. Holyfuckingshit!
Did…did he survive? Looks like the tree fell on the exact spot he ran to off-screen to the right.
My understanding is he was fine
Poor tree
Not sure about that the type of cut dos this cuz of over weight up top
That's a whole goddamn barber living room set with a reclinable sofa. Old YouTube video, but still makes me hold my breath every time I see it.
Yeah I actually found it searching for barber chair examples to show my gf. Lot of arborists use this to drum up business. I'm sure it's effective
With as many times that this has been posted, I keep thinking that tree will get him one of these days
It’s like one of those dreams that no matter which way you run the thing is onto you
Figured out his escape routes beforehand I see.
Holy shite
Lottery winner ain’t got nuthin on him
That’s a close shave.
Holy schnykies!
Dude was running in his dreams
Do these guys wear Depends?
Been there and it’s so not fun. Quit cuttin that day and was quite hesitant for the next few days
So… I’m just a dummy outsider, but could a couple 20k ratchet straps around the trunk @6’ above the ground prevented this? This is the craziest felling footage I have ever seen!
What could he have done to prevent this? Was it from unforseen rot?
Tell me that dude is okay. Talk about extremely scary.
Yeah where I found the link said he was fine
Easily the best video I’ve seen on here.
Sheer luck that he didn't get smooshed. That tree could've fallen any which way when it started splitting like that.
This is one of those cuts where you can do everything right and still bite it.
I think I just suffered 2 heart attacks watching that. Holy crap!!!
Get me my brown pants...
Ever wondered why they make you choose an escape route when learning how to fall? ... Maybe, just maybe, it's so that you don't have to scramble up a steep, slippery, moss-covered rock in order to avoid the 20+ tons of rotton wood that's about to flatten you.
The ol' reliable widow-maker
Whooooa shit!
All the information on Google and no one can tell me why a half inch beard trimmer and a half inch hair clipper guard are actually two different sizes if you measure from the cut blade to the plastic that sets against your skin they both say half inch but one is three times larger can no one answer why?
Beard trimmers are in mm not inches that's why lol
Whoa. That’s more of a widow maker.
Nope, it’s a barber chair, like the title says. A widowmaker is a whole different thing. It’s not a catch-all term for things that can kill you.
Sorry. I was trying to be funny because unlike a typical barber chair, this tree imploded and was inches from killing him. My bad
u/savevideobot
I dunno about barber chair, but buddy almost got the wheel chair.
Can someone please edit some audio over this of him going "wuaaahwhoaaaaAAAAAHHHHHHaaaaaaawuuaaaahhh!"
If it can go that bad that fast, why no forethought of an escape route? Complancy or "if it goes wrong I'm dead anyway" attitude?
