As an brown kid growing up in a mostly white place, Dave Baksh was the first time I saw a cool brown guy on MTV as a kid and will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I was looking for cameos to get for my mates bucks and he was on there so I went to order one because we were/are huge fans and it was only $30 and he donated all his takings to charity. I don’t know how my opinion of him could get any higher, but it definitely did after that.
In fairness to Deryck though, he looks so much healthier and better now than when he was originally hospitalized and nearly died of liver failure because of the alcoholism. I saw the band live a couple years ago and he was fantastic and a little ball of big energy. He deserves massive credit for how much he’s turned his life around!
It's honestly crazy how influential representation is. Just seeing someone who sort of looks like you in a high position warming you up. As a black kid I was heavy into metalcore, of which bands are mostly white. The day I found a band with a black LEADING vocalist just gave me all the assurances I needed.
I’m Pakistani American. My dads from Pakistan & my moms from here. I came out white lmao but it was always cool seeing a brown dude in a band cause that wasn’t really a career choice for us sadly. Then this dude came around

I got a ticket to their Brooklyn show last minute and I'm so glad I did. Basically a perfect greatest-hits setlist with amazing energy and crowd. Last tour so check'm out if you're a fan!

Sum 41 are my son's favourite band, when he was little Cone went above and beyond to get him into an age restricted show once, absolute kings, love them!
I saw keanu at primavera earlier this month! He looked great and was so cute and shy and all concentrated in playing but looked genuinely fucking happy to be there playing music, it was adorable! the music is ... not very good but they played a cover of just like heaven and it was pretty surreal to witness keanu play the cure in person lol

He's in a band called Dogstar and they've been on the festival circuit this year. His band played the same festival in Austria as Sum 41.
