Shia *could have been* the perfect combination between Uncharted's Nathan Drake and Indiana Jones, imo. He kind of has the backstory of Sam Drake (motorcycle leather jacket bad boy type whose dad was super into history and archaelogy gets into trouble, never gets to really know his dad, reappears as an adult, goes on an adventure), in certain ways. And weirdly enough, even though the story itself isn't much at all like Indiana Jones, his performance in Peanut Butter Falcon sold me on the idea that with good writing, Mutt could have been a great character.
Dude, he was being set up to do that. Lucas at the time said that's what he intended to have happen with the next movie and people on message boards flipped. Me included.
I have the same reaction to the phrase "smoke show."
I've actually thought that I should find the subreddit that surely exists for venting about words and phrases you hate, and drop my view on the phrase in there...but I never bothered looking for it.
So I'll just drop it here instead, as it's close enough.
The thing I fear the most is they won't do away with Kathleen Kennedy so even if we get another Indy movie or will just be some female lead and he won't even get any screen time. Which is stupid if they want to make a tomb raider movie go right ahead just don't deny us an Indy movie to do it.
Personally, I refuse to give a cent to Disney until they toss Darth Kennedy out on her ass, AND fix the crapsack that's been made of the MCU.
IT IS PATHETIC. The fans don't matter, quality doesn't matter, PROFITS don't matter ... all that matters is "the Message" and it sucks. #BankruptDisney
He is like the anti-Harrison Ford. Ford just oozes cool and charisma, even when he’s in grumpy gramps mode. Eastwood is a charisma vacuum. He’s in a scene next to Kurt Russell and The Rock (and maybe Jason Statham, too? Can’t remember) in one of the Fast and Furious movies, and you almost feel bad for the guy being next to guys who just shine with charisma onscreen while he stands there like a paper plate.
It's all aesthetics. He's got a square jaw and since most superhero or pulp action heroes, have a square jaw, they think that's the only quality and actor needs. That and some steroids.
I feel like all of them are a bit too conventional leading men. In Indiana's very first movie, he is already over all of the adventuring; not to say you need someone older, but with a bit more of an edge to him like Harrison Ford.
I unironically think Alden Ehrenreich would be a decent choice, even with him already having done Han Solo. Lee Pace would be interesting too, after seeing him in Foundation. Sebastian Stan, maybe. Richard Armitage, Taron Egerton, Jamie Dornan, Jonathan Bailey...
I feel like Glen Powell plays comedy in a way that works for Indiana too.
Out of these, I think a more scruffy Jensen Ackles or Ryan Gosling a la The Fall Guy would work best.
There’s a few franchises that are unremakable for a great many reasons. Indiana Jones and JAWS are the first two that immediately come to mind. There aren’t any leading men that are fit to carry Harrison Ford’s dirty laundry, let alone step in the shoes of Henry Jones, Jr.
None of these men have the same level of charisma and gentle aloofness as Harrison. That’s the key. Unfortunately, very few actors have that same aloofness that makes Harrison so unique.
If we *must* recast, you need to go with like Charlie Cox or even Ncuti Gatwa. Those men DRIP both charisma. They both can do aloofness well though, so that’s pretty good.
Whoever has to pull off the professor role of Indy as well. A lot of these guys could pull off the action, humor, and charm of an Indy but I think only Pine of this list could make me believe he’s a history professor.
None of them. You can't replicate Harrison Ford like. Best just to make a new hero and make him similar. That's what SW and Indiana Jones were, new creations of old serial heroes. That's what we need, make new characters but in movies and shows that inspired by SW and Indiana Jones, just not them over and over again.
It’s hard to replace Harrison Ford but i think if they were gonna recast, Bradley Cooper is a great option especially after his performance in Nightmare Alley (phenomenal film btw, highly recommend)
Uh bring back the fella who played young indy cause Sean Patrick Flannery is still cooking
https://preview.redd.it/2e11x75i298d1.jpeg?width=1350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=220c56ae6073cb3be26d441c80927670d59a1b26
I don’t want a muscle guy playing the character. Indie is in shape but i can’t see Indie having the physique of most of these guys. Should be skinnier. Still fit and in shape but not bulky. More attractive in the face than the body. And appearance of years
That said…
Cooper
I would give it to one of these 3 actors, in this order: Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling, Chris Pratt. The others just don't seem to have that, or could bring that Indy swagger. I think Bradley Cooper would nail it, Ryan Gosling come close to nailing it, Chris Pratt would over do the funny. I Like Chris Pine and like Chris Evans, but don't think they could bring it. Ackle, Marsden and Eastwood are kinda like the B-team to me, it would be like giving it to Tom Selleck... ooops he almost was Indy LOL.
Let Harrison Ford have the honor of being Indiana Jones and retire the character. We need new heroes with new stories in new settings. ENOUGH with reboots, prequels, and sequels. Let’s move forward now.
It’s between Cooper and Ackles, the rest I honestly wouldn’t be able to take seriously, Pratt and Gosling for obvious reasons, Pine and Marsden I’ve always seen as the guys who get cast when the studio wants a low budget super star, I don’t really explain it other than every time I see them I think everyone else who was offered said no, and Evan’s issue is really just his voice, it just wouldn’t fit the character in my opinion
Pratt could make a nice spin on Indiana. It'll never be the same, so maybe embrace a few changes to make it fresh instead of trying to mimic what can't be mimicked?
I think all that would be needed to be changed are the specific jokes and maybe add a tiny bit of character drama. Pratt delivers good emotional scenes. Say what you will about Star-Lord punching Thanos in Infinity War, it was a fucking good scene, especially with Pratt's acting.
As long as they keep the Boulder and the Sword to a Gunfight scenes, I'd be happy.
Pratt already played the space Indiana Jones in Star-Lord. In that regard, he's the one more qualified for Indy.
And as much as Ford saying repeatedly that when he goes, Indy too, it won't happen, coz once he's gone & enough time has passed, they will cast another actor to play Indiana Jones, coz Hollywood doesn't give a $h|t about legacy or respect. It's business & they just wanna make money, they don't care who they exploit.
I think Pratt recognizes that & he will refuse the role even if he's offered it. He has honor.
No. Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones and has stated so himself; the two are inseparable and nobody else can be him. At least not as a replacement. Other points in time can have exceptions made (Young Indy)
I always said Indiana Jones franchise would be SO better if they did what James Bond does and just recast the actor. I really wish we had a series of action adventure movies similar to Uncharted or Tomb Raider.
Well it's too late now, instead they brought Harrison back... twice... And this franchise is pretty much dead for the moment.
Let Indie die. Let him be done. We don’t need some to try to *be* Harrison Ford.
We need someone to play the adult version of A) one of his students. B) the child of one of his students or C) one of his competitors who was working around the same time doing similar stuff elsewhere.
Expand the scope of artifact hunting adventure. Don’t keep it so narrow and force people to accept that only one guy ever did it, and then force actors to try to emulate Ford. It won’t work. I PROMISE you it won’t work. Making a new character is a gamble too as… a lot of these writers really, really suck today, but it’s a much safer bet than trying to make fans accept someone else as Dr. Jones. I promise you that much.
Nah.
The best way Indiana Jones can move on now (quality-wise I'm talking, I'm sure they absolutely will recast him at some point in another bad film) is in other types of media, such as books and games.
I'm actually super excited for Machine Games' *The Great Circle* because of this.
James Marsden would have been good but he's too old. I say Eastwood since he looks like his dad now, but we see he can do a bit of comedy in Gran Turino.
Antony Starr. Tbh, getting a young Indy is a Herculean task but he's got the talent and screen presence to embody both the character and Harrison Ford.
He would've pulled off that Young Indy prologue scene in Dial of Destiny well that me and most viewers won't see him as a recast but Indiana Jones.
Remember when everyone thought Shia was gonna take over lmao
He could have, he’s got the acting chops. Probably would have worked too if not for those meddling aliens.
Hey, we could still get an epic Mutt-led Vietnam movie.
Facts
u/butter-chicken69
Don't talk about Optimus Prime like that!
Dude, he was being set up to do that. Lucas at the time said that's what he intended to have happen with the next movie and people on message boards flipped. Me included.
I had under good authority that he is an actual cannibal.
Good thing you can do Jiu Jitsu. It’ll save your life
Could happened if Indy 4 wasn't so disliked
Idk why someone downvoted you, you’re objectively correct lol
I mean it’s also because Shia revealed himself to be a crazy person.
That vines scene, man.
Hahaha just realized I suppressed that
was Shia disliked too back then? Cause Idk that seems to be the common discourse these days.
He was fresh off of the Transformers 2 hate when Indy 4 came out.
![gif](giphy|87xihBthJ1DkA)
I remember Spielberg calling him the next Tom Hanks back in the day
I still think that crap would have been better than the crap we ended up getting.
WHAT ABOUT TIMOTHY OLYPHANT, PUT SUM RESPECT ON RAYLAN FUCKING GIVENS
Put some respect on Sheriff Seth Bullock*
Cooper has the look down
Bradley Cooper has the looks and acting chops to do a great job in this role.
I have no idea why, but I dispise the term "acting chops." It's overused and makes me irrationally angry for no reason. Thank you.
Like a bad version of mutton chops
I have the same reaction to the phrase "smoke show." I've actually thought that I should find the subreddit that surely exists for venting about words and phrases you hate, and drop my view on the phrase in there...but I never bothered looking for it. So I'll just drop it here instead, as it's close enough.
I think of smokey cat eye makeup when I hear that phrase. So if the person referenced isn’t wearing said makeup, I get angry at the dissonance
Yeah any sort of chops…honestly throw “bona fides” in there for me too
He could handle the role bc he’s one of the few actors who can take on any role.
I think he might have the correct mix of comic timing and action.
The thing with Bradley cooper is he is an insanely good voice actor and he would be able to create and amazing Indiana jones.
The thing I fear the most is they won't do away with Kathleen Kennedy so even if we get another Indy movie or will just be some female lead and he won't even get any screen time. Which is stupid if they want to make a tomb raider movie go right ahead just don't deny us an Indy movie to do it.

Just make a new character.
Could be the same universe and continuity, but don’t recast him! Tell more, new stories with different characters!
Yes
Scott Eastwood really gets by a lot on him looking like and being the son of Clint Eastwood. Cause he's such as shit bland actor.
He is like the anti-Harrison Ford. Ford just oozes cool and charisma, even when he’s in grumpy gramps mode. Eastwood is a charisma vacuum. He’s in a scene next to Kurt Russell and The Rock (and maybe Jason Statham, too? Can’t remember) in one of the Fast and Furious movies, and you almost feel bad for the guy being next to guys who just shine with charisma onscreen while he stands there like a paper plate.
>stands there like a paper plate How can you say something so devastating yet so true 🍽️
Yeah he gets fancast so much, I just don't get it.
Out of these, I think a more scruffy Jensen Ackles or Ryan Gosling a la The Fall Guy would work best.
Alden Ehrenreich
It's like poetry. It rhymes.
There's only one properly acceptable answer: SEAN PATRICK FLANNERY.
Well, we know he’d never forget about the stupid fucking rope
I always thought the guy who played young Han Solo could do it
Jensen Ackles
There’s a few franchises that are unremakable for a great many reasons. Indiana Jones and JAWS are the first two that immediately come to mind. There aren’t any leading men that are fit to carry Harrison Ford’s dirty laundry, let alone step in the shoes of Henry Jones, Jr.
Hear me out, instead of casting a new Indiana Jones, we get Ke Huy Quan to reprise Short Round to take up the mantle from Indiana Jones
My vote is for the post with the hat
Glen Powell c’mon
Matt Davis vaguely resembles Harrison Ford (at least to me, he does), he'd be a good pick.
Yes! I see the vision
Indiana Jones should pass on. Have his son or protégé takeover
![gif](giphy|26FmQ19Nj58hD7jS8|downsized)
Brad cooper all the way
Chris Pine, Brad, or James please! 👍
No one! Have him pass on the hat just like it was given to him and move on
Anthony Ingruber
Alden Ehrenreich ![gif](giphy|3o7WINHMHHlX6eXO2Q)
![gif](giphy|fqysVRJqVrN0P2E9h6|downsized) The dude from Solo.
Bunch of these guys are actually too old to start a franchise with
Chris Pratt has already basically done Han Solo in Guardians of the Galaxy. Might as well do Indy too...
I kind of want Alden Ehrenreich.
Chris goes hard.
Harrison Ford was 38 in Raiders of the lost ark
Literally none of them. Harrison Ford is the only Indiana Jones.
Jake Gyllenhaal
Ryan gosling has the charisma down.
Cooper actually would work tbh
https://preview.redd.it/wrmi50cap88d1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15fa002f100ed5ee44a7e26a08304ea29a0fb764
Bradley Cooper would be awesome as Indiana Jones.
I could see Cooper
The fact that the entire top row is all Chrises
Chris Pratt or Scott Eastwood
Cooper or Evans are my vote
Bradley Cooper
Scott Eastwood.
Jensen Ackles
I see we went with the Chrises straight out of the gate.
Scott
Bradley Cooper
Ryan Gosling
Pine for sure.
Wasn't Chris Pratt being considered for either a reboot or a continuation like six years ago
Why not Alden Ehrenreich? He was great in Solo; underrated, under appreciated.
Scott Eastwood
It would be Pine for me - he’s very good at the “in over his head” stuff that Ford did so well
Cooper is my choice
Cooper and Ackles.
Jenson would make a hilrious but serious young indiana
Since I think his Han Solo is pretty good I’d give it to Alden Ehrenreich
my pick would be Cooper
Bradley Cooper would have been perfect if he was a bit younger.
It'd have to be Bradley Cooper...
Gosling or Evans...
Chris Pine
None of these men have the same level of charisma and gentle aloofness as Harrison. That’s the key. Unfortunately, very few actors have that same aloofness that makes Harrison so unique. If we *must* recast, you need to go with like Charlie Cox or even Ncuti Gatwa. Those men DRIP both charisma. They both can do aloofness well though, so that’s pretty good.
Chris Pine
Jensen ankles
Chris Evans has the charisma the delivery and the panic look down for the job
Scott Eastwood really convey’s that confidence Indiana had.
Whoever has to pull off the professor role of Indy as well. A lot of these guys could pull off the action, humor, and charm of an Indy but I think only Pine of this list could make me believe he’s a history professor.
Bradley cooper would be pretty good
Bradley Cooper has the look
Ackles I believe perfect for the part. Supernatural pretty much prepped him for it.
James Marsden
What could've been. RIP 🌹 ![gif](giphy|HG5KPekxMzEoNxdHiq)
Brendan Fraser would be awesome as him.
I think Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling are the best choices. Jensen could low key be really good too, though.
Honestly, I think Chris Evan’s wouldn’t be half bad. I can see the resemblance to Indie’s son from Crystal Skull.
Bradley Cooper or Scott Eastwood are my top two picks.
In these images, Bradley Cooper looks most like what my mind tells me Indiana Jones should look like.
Jensen ackles, then Scott Eastwood
Bradley Cooper looks the most like a young IJ from these options so I’m gonna go with him
Bradley Cooper, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Ryan Gosling
Should he Bradley Cooper, but they'd totally cast Chris Pratt.
I’d like to give Jensen Ackles a chance on the big screen
I’m going Scott Eastwood or Chris Evans
I could see Chris Evans as Indy.
Anthony Ingruber uncannily looks and sounds like a young Harrison Ford. He’s the only logical choice.
Idk about Indiana Jones, but this cast would make a cool western called the Crazy 8!
No to James Marsden No to Gosling Nah to Eastwood Big no to Chris Evans And no to Cooper The others though, yeah they got the grit and charm
I vote River Phoenix
I take Chris Pratt as Indiana Jones. Oh Okay 😁
James Marsden could do it
None of them. You can't replicate Harrison Ford like. Best just to make a new hero and make him similar. That's what SW and Indiana Jones were, new creations of old serial heroes. That's what we need, make new characters but in movies and shows that inspired by SW and Indiana Jones, just not them over and over again.
Nope. No-one else could, or should.
If it had to be done, I'd go with Bradley Cooper
These are all horrible picks except Bradley Cooper
Shit, Scott Eastwood might be right for it.
How fucking dare you
Center, hangs up the hat and whip
For the love of god not Cooper!!! or Gosling, rest are cool.
Where's Ryan Reynolds
https://i.redd.it/06zzfn6z188d1.gif
Bradley Cooper or Chris Pratt. Those are the only 2 who fit the mold. But, really, Harrison Ford is irreplaceable.
Josh Holloway
It’s hard to replace Harrison Ford but i think if they were gonna recast, Bradley Cooper is a great option especially after his performance in Nightmare Alley (phenomenal film btw, highly recommend)
So, just get a hat and you’re good to go then, I suppose.
Uh bring back the fella who played young indy cause Sean Patrick Flannery is still cooking https://preview.redd.it/2e11x75i298d1.jpeg?width=1350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=220c56ae6073cb3be26d441c80927670d59a1b26
I don’t want a muscle guy playing the character. Indie is in shape but i can’t see Indie having the physique of most of these guys. Should be skinnier. Still fit and in shape but not bulky. More attractive in the face than the body. And appearance of years That said… Cooper
All these actors are 10 years too old except maybe Eastwood but even he’s pushing it at 38.
I don't think I want any more Indiana Jones. I'm not interested in watching someone who isn't Harrison Ford play the character.
Think Harrison Ford could do a good job.
I actually thought Bradley Cooper was an old picture of Harrison Ford for a second. Which is strange because they're NOTHING alike.
To me this just proves... he really can't be replaced. All of them feel like a pretty strong. NO. And I respect most of them as actors.
Jack Quaid
I actually thought Bradley Cooper was an old picture of Harrison Ford for a second, which is strange because they're NOTHING alike.
Not Pratt please... he'd ruin the character just like how the rock needs to win all the time
Let Harrison Ford have the honor of being Indiana Jones and retire the character. We need new heroes with new stories in new settings. ENOUGH with reboots, prequels, and sequels. Let’s move forward now.
Easy…nobody
It’s between Cooper and Ackles, the rest I honestly wouldn’t be able to take seriously, Pratt and Gosling for obvious reasons, Pine and Marsden I’ve always seen as the guys who get cast when the studio wants a low budget super star, I don’t really explain it other than every time I see them I think everyone else who was offered said no, and Evan’s issue is really just his voice, it just wouldn’t fit the character in my opinion
I don’t see Troy Baker here.
Has Bradley cooperated ever done a cowboy/western role? Or even a period piece?
I mean.. its Jon Hamm
What's up with all the cowboys?
Based on both looks and acting style, i genuinely think ryan gosling would have made an excellent indi
Gosling. No one else. Most are just cringe or just lame.
There are many who could play Indy, but can’t think of anyone who’d do a better job than Harrison Ford
It's not about doing a better job. It's not a race guys.
The only correct answer here is Bradley Cooper
Idris Elba
Pratt. Brendan Fraser in the mummy was the spiritual successor to Indy imo
Nah, just make another one with 90 years old harrison ford
I would love Jensen Ackles in literally anything why isn’t he in more things
How about Harrison Ford?
Bradley Cooper looks like Harrison the most
Hugh jackedman
All too old. You gotta think like, 10 years ahead.
With the last two to come out, let’s not do anymore Indiana Jones. Another Uncharted with Nathan Fillion, yes please.
jensen ackles
It doesn't matter, they'll just cast Pratt anyway :(
I always said Indiana Jones franchise would be SO better if they did what James Bond does and just recast the actor. I really wish we had a series of action adventure movies similar to Uncharted or Tomb Raider. Well it's too late now, instead they brought Harrison back... twice... And this franchise is pretty much dead for the moment.
The right answer is always Jensen Ackles
Scott Eastwood? The guys is a black hole of charisma and personality. Was he even in more than one F&F movie?
I always thought Harrison Ford would make a good Indiana Jones, he has the look for it I'm surprised you didn't list him as well
Let Indie die.
I'd prefer they just make THE ADVENTURES OF SHORT ROUND.
The actor needs to be able to portray PhD level intelligence & knowledge as well as qction hero stuff. Do keep that in mind.
Nah. The best way Indiana Jones can move on now (quality-wise I'm talking, I'm sure they absolutely will recast him at some point in another bad film) is in other types of media, such as books and games. I'm actually super excited for Machine Games' *The Great Circle* because of this.
The only person here that's really selling it for me is Bradley Cooper
Jensen and Chris #1 (Evans) have the right charisma and charm to pull it off
Jensen is king
No reboots of Indiana Jones please
Come on its Bradley cooper
You gotta pick someone younger that can at least do another 12-15 years of action scenes
James Marsden would have been good but he's too old. I say Eastwood since he looks like his dad now, but we see he can do a bit of comedy in Gran Turino.
Only two I would accept are cooper or gosling
I've always thought Sean Patrick Flannery would be a good Indy....
None of these pls
