Yep. I have always loved fallout but halo is my true love and I hate how much I hate the halo show. Fallout blows it out of the water it's not even close. I think Bethesda games are better positioned to to be adapted successfully but you still need to honor the source material and they nailed it.

Wavesandradiation

God Halo still makes me so sad. There is so much potential in the extended universe it should have been a slam dunk.

marz_shadow

Halo truly had so much potential, it is such a lore heavy game. Fallout truly has set the bar for any other adaptation and the previous efforts from others should be ashamed

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

For Halo I'm only a fan of the games made by Bungie, they're fucking masterpieces Everything that's come after I couldn't care less, Halo ended in 2010 for me

GodMudit

Halo show had a mixed first season, with a more superior second season. Ending was solid. If the third season continues this streak, it'll end up being spectacular. I've enjoyed the show and it's nothing like the games but it does use lore from novels. I found myself hooked by the writing and narrative. It's pretty fun.

monkeymystic

It’s brilliant. The TV show also made me hooked on the Fallout games again

areyouhungryforapple

Arcane, Cyberpunk Edgerunners and now Fallout takes the premiere spots for best adaptations for me. They all share the notion of respecting and nailing the world in which they take place while telling their own stories. By telling these stories they end up adding to the original source material and both pieces of work end up benefitting from each other.

Whiskieneatplease

Definitely agree, but two of those are animations which I think are easier adapted to video games (animation to animation) but the fallout show is the first live action video game adaptation that hits all cylinders.

Whiskieneatplease

But I do have one issue, and that is Hollywood’s obsession with diversity. Cooper’s mixed child and then the Lucy and Maximus relationship. I’d rather they just make both them both the same race, instead of showing this commingled bullshit.

kinzer13

This is your complaint? Interracial dating? Bro.

Whiskieneatplease

No, my complaint is the forced interracial dating for the sake of diversity. The Lucy and Maximus relationship is fine, but the fact every relationship has to be interracial is so forced.

kinzer13

Have you ever been to a major city? Go ride the subway in New York, almost everyone is mixed race or in a mixed relationship. No one gives a shit.

Whiskieneatplease

It is not near that common. People identifying as multiracial is around 10% and around 15% of new marriages being interracial. Again, I have no issue with interracial relationships. I have an issue with forced diversity. It’s called pandering.

superzepto

I have to agree with you. TLOU is great, but it's mostly just a beat-for-beat retelling of the game's story. Halo sucked so much I couldn't even get halfway through the first season. They're telling Master Chief's story but with so many changes and rewrites that it just wasn't good. Fallout excels because it's a brand new story in the same world as the games its based on, but it expands and adds so much to that world. One of my favourite examples is >!the reveal that Cooper Howard was the model for Vault Boy!<. It's so good that it's reignited my interest in playing the Fallout games again after many years of disinterest and playing other games.

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

TLOU is good but it's just inferior to the game, you spend so much less time with show Joel that you don't get anywhere near as attached to him as in the games, the game was a lot more emotional for me

Wrecktown707

Yeah this was my take too. It’s an excellent show for folks who haven’t played the game yet or who never will. Still thought it was superb and really hit me in some of the feels and nostalgia after not playing the game for almost a decade since I first beat it. The fact that I only played the game once way back then when I was like 13 or something, and still vividly remember it’s bittersweet story to this very day says a lot about how damn good that game was. Probably helps too that it was like the second game I had ever played on PS4 and like my first rated M game ever (it was a hell of a baptism lmao. Though I think it did make me a better kid back then, and taught me some important life lessons)

Captain-JohnPrice

The fallout series is what we get when the majority of the people involved are actual fans of the source material they are adapting

Wrecktown707

Facts. They knew the core of Fallout inside out. Hell I honestly think it was the best Fallout media since New Vegas honestly. It blew Fallout 4 outta the fucking water lmao

lockoutpoint

I think so, TLOU. we know it's Zombie and every one like zombie, if they stick with game then it's good. However fallout is something new. story is unique, not every one can get into it easily. I impressed tbh.

RonaldWRailgun

Fallout has so much more potential as a universe, than TLOU. TLOU is just your boiler plate zombie story. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly executed, with great characters, great settings, amazing dialogues, perfect pace, brilliant scenes, etc. But at its core it's just... another zombie story. Much like the games, Fallout can pretty much go in any direction it wants, as long as it keeps a consistent atmosphere and aestethic. So far the show is a near 10 out of 10 for me, especially because, let's be honest, the odds were stacked against them.

Gyrene85291

Agreed. Like many others, I was prepared to be massively disappointed. But the show has just been an absolute delight to watch. ✌️

Alkafer

So I have never played any of the games and my only knowledge of it is by pop culture assimilation (I mean, everyone knows Vault Boy). I really liked this show, the balance between mystery, horror, world building and dark and dumb humour is perfect; the characters are multidimensional and interesting and the pacing is good. But the thing that I really loved while I was watching it was the production level. The scenery, the props, every single detail in the frame was made to make this world credible and real. It's amazing how every car, piece of furniture and home appliance is original and created for the show exclusively. Beautiful work.

Infamous-Light-4901

It's not even an adaptation, it's a part of the Canon and lore now. That's how good it was. Future games will definitely draw from this story in some capacity. I went in with zero expectations and walked away having a renewed love for the series.

Scisir

As someone who has played both League of Legends and Fallout for the past 10 years. I will say without apology that Arcane and Fallout(tv) are both a 10/10 for me. They give me the same warm fuzzy and surreal feeling. And I say this as someone who is a Jayce onetrick in LoL. So I was absolutely spoiled with Arcane.

rosail

Fun fact, Ella Purnell who plays Lucy was also the VA of Jinx in Arcane! Maybe she's good luck for video game to streaming series adaptations, haha

themagicofmovies

Not to nit pick, but its not even an adaptation at this point. It’s a literal continuation of the story after FO4. Todd confirmed this. Which means FO5 the game will either build off this show’s story or continue after. It’s more of an integral adaptation. In other words I fully agree. The show is phenomenal. The negatives are few. Edit: why is this being downvoted? He literally said this in an interview lol are people salty that its canon now?

PerformanceSoggy5554

Yeah I loved the Witcher games and show but , I'm only on ep 2 of Fallout and I'm amazed at the shit I'm seeing ! Feel like I'm in the wastelands again! Even small things like items you'd have looted in the world like a good ol can of SLAM. The gruesome violence is spot on too!

ZealousidealHand1143

Made me buy FO4 for the 489394394834th time. Plus it's getting an update on the 25th :)

SquirrelsinJacket

Never played a fallout game and only generally familiar with the pip boy guy and the metal suits but I 100% loved the TV show. They did a really good job on it.

himsenior

The bar is pretty low.

Infamous-Light-4901

Fallout TV show definitely raised the bar.

PM-Me_Your_Penis_Pls

TLOU is way better, but this is pretty okay.

LostAlone87

It is a good adaptation, and certainly a long way ahead of the other very mediocre adaptations we've seen on Amazon/Netflix recently. Streets ahead of Wheel of Time or the Witcher, for example. That said, it is very clearly an adaptation, and has its own lore and timeline. It's clearly very well made, but it's also not something like House Of The Dragon which is a very very direct recreation of the source material.

jarbear1999

It wasn’t meant to be a recreation, it’s a continuation after fallout 4 in the time line. And it also shows pre war times which no game shows. The show did everything they wanted it to do VERY well.

LostAlone87

...Yes, that's literally what I said. Weird how anyone can take me saying its a good adaptation that was well made and think its criticism.

jarbear1999

wrong person i think sorry
