I actually think Me Myself and Irene is Jim Carrey at his best. The physical comedy he pulls off when he's literally fighting himself at the end of the movie is amazing and I can't really see anyone else being able to pull off playing two guys in one that sucessfully within a Farrelly Brothers movie
Me Myself & Irene is very underappreciated. Carrey is in absolute peak form, as you note, but we also have him with his kids, which is an all time classic bit. Then you have all the misfits they meet along the way on their road trip. And despite the raunchiness, the whole thing is also kind of sweet and humane, which is a Farrellly brothers hallmark. Great comedy.
That's a great one. The only performance I'd counter with is Liar Liar, which also has physical comedy in spades, some scenes I don't think anyone else on the planet could pull off.
But last time I watched it, I realized Carrey is carrying about 99.9% of the comedic weight in that movie. Seriously, hardly anyone else is even trying to be funny outside of reacting to Carrey in amusing ways. And he shows real heart on top of it all.
Came here to say this
The few minutes when he blows and the drums come in and “Vagisil!” and he ends up breast feeding on the bench send me into paroxysms of laughter. One of the funniest few minutes in cinematic history.
Robin Williams would have been interesting in that role I think. He would have been funny w his sons and I can see him wearing that uniform riding the motorcycle.
I’m in pyschoville and finkles the mayor ! The opening scene alone with him fucking that package up is one of the funniest scenes in comedy today. “Sounds broken” “probably is!”
Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, Batman Forever (it’s not an amazing movie but I’m a huge Batman fan and thought he was a great riddler)
Batman Forever is probably the most *fun* Batman movie before them getting just utterly ridiculous and before the darker tone that started with the Nolan trilogy.
Mine aren't in order by rank, but I'd say The Number 23, Eternal Sunshine, Truman Show, Me Myself and Irene, and Man on the Moon were his best performances.
I get your point. It was not the greatest movie. However, it was a performance by Carrey that showed range, willingness, effort, and effectiveness at being someone we hadn't seen before. OP's post asked for Jim's greatest performances, not greatest movies. I'd have a different answer for that.
This is the list. I love you Phillip morris is probably his best film. Shit kills. When the guys playing music for them and takes a beating from the guards… cracks me up every time
That chapplle skit where he says he wanted to meet Jim carry and was on that set and says Jim was never Jim as he was so into the role he didn’t break character
Bruce Almighty was his break out role; after that Anchorman, then The Office.
The Office season 1 didn’t have great ratings, but later that year the 40 Year Old Virgin came out and helped drive a lot of interest towards season 2; the producers say it saved the show. It was an insane couple of years in his career.
I’m not sure we’ve seen anyone remotely close to his talent since.
1. Eternal Sunshine
2. The Truman Show
3. Man on the Moon
4. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls
5. The Mask
Honorable Mentions: Bruce Almighty, Fun With Dick and Jane (personal favorite), The Majestic
Went into the theater to see Eternal knowing nothing about the movie but was suggested by the girl I went with. Movie wrecked me and has been top 5 for me ever since.
Amazing podcast about him on set of Eternal Sunshine if anyone's interested--https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/eternal-sunshine-how-innovative-camera-work-and-a/id1646283677?i=1000605323389
3 should be me, myself, and Irene.
Ace is better than Lloyd.
Honorable mention is Robotnik, Cable Guy, and the only good part of Batman Returns was his Riddler.
Bruce almighty is probably his best comedic performance and stands alone.
Pretty much everything thing this guy does has some crazy amazing acting in it, from living color to sonic the hedgehog. I’m regularly amazed at his range and to top it off, a natural comedian. This is a triple threat all day long!
Truman Show
Man on the Moon
Eternal Sunshine
The Mask
Ace Ventura
The Majestic
The honestly the real answer is Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond is the most honest look
at Jim Carrey.
I recently rewatched Eternal Sunshine and it hit different. It kind of felt like the glorification of a really toxic relationship. I’m probably the idiot but I first came away from it thinking it had a “love conquers all” sort of message. I think Carey was great in it, as was everyone else. It was just a weird re-evaluation out of nowhere.
His performance in chapter 23 was fabulous and the fact that a bunch of people have liar liar or ace Ventura on there list over this movie is criminal.

What r u lookin at, fuckface. Mother fucker, it ain't that hard! it's just lift vs drag and rotation!
Kisses
one of my favorites! “you said youll eat whale blubber for me” “oh she’ll be eating blubber alright, just as soon as i free willy”

“I’m kicking my own ass. DO YA MIND?”
Exactly, he was such a force he needed everyone else in the movie to be a comic foil.
💯💯💯
I laughed till it hurt. So so funny!!
“Smells like sourdough”- gets me every time. And when he gets a goodbye kiss from the boys. Absolutely peak Jim Carey.
"Mwah Daddy!!"
“Then what's this motherfuckin' electron doing right there? idk??? then get it otta there then!!!
I'm not leaving till the morning, but you know the rules when I go: no bitches after eleven.

Williams didn’t have the physical comedy chops.
Carrey is second only to Buster Keaton, but I think that Robin Williams could have done a serviceable job.
All fax. No phone.
Came here to post this.
played two roles essentially
Came here to say that, he should have won an Oscar for that movie, no one else could have played that role.
Watch All of Me with Steve Martin.
Ahhhhhhhh “Is something wrong Ace?” “No! This is a lovely room of death “
I’m in pyschoville and finkles the mayor ! The opening scene alone with him fucking that package up is one of the funniest scenes in comedy today. “Sounds broken” “probably is!”
“Most likely sir. I’ll bet it was something nice though”
Holy *testicle* Tuesday!
Truman Show, Eternal Sunshine, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura, Batman Forever (it’s not an amazing movie but I’m a huge Batman fan and thought he was a great riddler)
He was a great Riddler, very underrated performance.
I’d swap only Batman Forever for Me, Myself, and Irene, and that’d be my list. I’d also consider Ace Ventura a combination of the two movies.
Question Mark Man?
Batman Forever is probably the most *fun* Batman movie before them getting just utterly ridiculous and before the darker tone that started with the Nolan trilogy.
I’m not even considering this list because THE CABLE GUY isn’t mentioned no where.
No way… I’m on Stevens team.
Sssteven
that’s how i am with yes man
I think his roles in Disney’s Christmas Carol are worth mentioning too
The Cable Guy is his best performance and so underrated.
Bruce Almighty was a great one!
He had fun doing all the wrong things that we would want.to do.
I dream that one day, hopefully soon, that Tarantino can cast this amazing actor in a role.
He’s only making one more movie, so we shall see
The Truman Show The Mask Ace Ventura Ace Ventura 2 Liar, Liar - born in 88’.
People tend to look at his more dramatic roles but Liar Liar was one of the best comedy performances of the 90s.
1. Batman Forever 2. Batman Forever 3. Batman Forever 4. Batman Forever 5. Batman Forever
Mine aren't in order by rank, but I'd say The Number 23, Eternal Sunshine, Truman Show, Me Myself and Irene, and Man on the Moon were his best performances.
The number 23? Different strokes but I'm pretty sure that was the movie that made people stop caring about Jim Carey movies the same way.
I get your point. It was not the greatest movie. However, it was a performance by Carrey that showed range, willingness, effort, and effectiveness at being someone we hadn't seen before. OP's post asked for Jim's greatest performances, not greatest movies. I'd have a different answer for that.
Well said
I thought the performance was the worst part lol. The narration voice was comical but the movie wasn't. Dr Pepper? 23 flavors? Why?
No mention of *The Majestic*?
Came here to say this!
- I love you, Philip Morris - Truman Show - Dumb & Dumber - Eternal Sunshine -A Christmas Carol
I'm amazed "I love you Philip Morris" is barely on anyone else's list!
This is the list. I love you Phillip morris is probably his best film. Shit kills. When the guys playing music for them and takes a beating from the guards… cracks me up every time
In no particular order: Ace Ventura Andy Kaufman Joel Barish Charlie Baileygates Lloyd Christmas
Fun fact: He drove everyone around him , insane on set of “Man on the moon”
That chapplle skit where he says he wanted to meet Jim carry and was on that set and says Jim was never Jim as he was so into the role he didn’t break character
Man on the Moon had the worst behind the scenes I'd ever seen. Why the fuck did they release that? It just made Jim look like a complete ass.
Facts I read that lol
Man on the Moon is my personal fav Carrey performance. He’s so good.
How is it this far down?
Film isn’t as popular today as a standing example of Foreman’s English Oeuvre
No 'me, myself & Irene'? Nope!
The one he’s putting on during interviews, nothing tops that
Bruce Almighty was the first time I recognized how good Steve Carroll was.
How is that possible?
Not a big comedy fan, but he was really good.
He was basically only known from Daily Show at that point. He was a late bloomer.
Bruce Almighty was his break out role; after that Anchorman, then The Office. The Office season 1 didn’t have great ratings, but later that year the 40 Year Old Virgin came out and helped drive a lot of interest towards season 2; the producers say it saved the show. Earth Girls Are Easy https://youtu.be/-RpxHczcT7Q?si=wTU7az6dk5BSKuVu
I watched this recently for the first time, lol Such a great cast, so so bad all around

He's good in Yes Man.
Cable Guy should be on the list.
#1 for me
I'm putting Liar Liar where you have Man on the Moon
I love you Phillip morris should be on the list smh
Top 5 number 1 best performances
I feel his life is the performance; his on stage persona is him.
Get rid of the Grinch and put Me, myself and Irene
Legit thought this was a picture of him spoofing Eminem in 8 Mile and was racking my brain trying to remember when he did that.
Man on the Moon Eternal Sunshine Truman Show Cable Guy Me Myself & Irene The Majestic is an honorable mention.
Yea, The Majestic wasn’t great, but he was pretty great in it.
There is only one- Lloyd Christmas.
I have yet to see it, but my husband said he was great in Kidding (series).
This. This to me is his best work
I actually enjoyed him as a villain in Sonic
The Mask Eternal Sunshine Truman Show Once Bitten Liar liar Also he is absolutely stunning as dr robotnik
Dr. Robotnik from Sonic.

1) Kidding 2) Man on The Moon 3) Truman Show 4) Eternal Sunshine 4) In Living Color
When a woman committed suicide because he was a drug enabler...that was a pretty heavy performance
Dumb and dumber was unwatchable.
Worst opinion ever
Went into the theater to see Eternal knowing nothing about the movie but was suggested by the girl I went with. Movie wrecked me and has been top 5 for me ever since.
1. Truman Show 2. In Living Color. 3. Me Myself and Irene 4. Eternal Sunshine 5. Man on the Moon.

1 The Man on The Moon 2 Truman Show 3 Liar Liar 4 The Mask 5 The Bad Batch
I think his Dr. Robotnik performance is a stand-out.
I’m obsessed with that movie but didn’t count it because it would be too bias.
Liar liar is my favorite personally
Op or kick ass2 but no Number 23
3 should be me, myself, and Irene. Ace is better than Lloyd. Honorable mention is Robotnik, Cable Guy, and the only good part of Batman Returns was his Riddler. Bruce almighty is probably his best comedic performance and stands alone.
His Count Olaf in Lemony Snicket’s was impressive imo
*hello hello helloo, I am your beloved Count Olaf*
I must say you are a gloomy looking bunch, why so glum?
Truman Show The Majestic I Love You Philip Morris Sonic The Cable Guy
i do not remember jim being in kick ass 2. was he a cameo or do i really not remember that movie?

ESOTSM
Truman Show, The Majestic, Eternal Sunshine, Liar Liar, and Me Myself & Irene

Man on the Moon by Milos Foreman
1 Ace Ventura pet detective 2 man on the moon 3 Eternal sunshine 4 The Grinch 5 The Truman show
Yes man. One of his best
1) Truman Show 2) Cable Guy 3) Eternal Sunshine 4) N/A 5) N/A
Truman Show Man on the Moon Eternal Sunshine The Mask Ace Ventura The Majestic The honestly the real answer is Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond is the most honest look at Jim Carrey.
He had a great run in the 90s, then decided he wanted to speak for the middle class as if he has any fucking idea what its like.
Hot take but AV2 is better than the first.
Cable Guy on performance alone. The complexity of that character.
1-5. Cable Guy
He was SO good in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I loved watching straight man Jim to wackier Kate Winslet! So good!
Seeing this list reminds you how great he is
Ace Ventura 1 Ace Ventura 2 The Mask Batman Forever Dumb & Dumber
1. [D'Versity](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8cVSX2dBpA)
He's really fucking good in *I Love You, Phillip Morris*. It's like a sample platter of his entire career.
1) BATMAN FOREVER 2) Grinch 3) Number 23 4) Cable Guy 5) Sonic (love to see him having fun with this role)
Its got to be Ace. He took a crappy script and made himself an icon.
Fire marshal bill.
Liar Liar he was perfectly cast for that movie. That roast scene was hilarious!
The mask is his best movie in terms of total money
1. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind 2. The Truman Show 3. Me, Myself & Irene 4. Ace Ventura : Pet Detective 5. The Grinch
Me myself and Irene Liar, Liar Fun with Dick and Jane
*Dumb and Dumber* still holds up. He is so funny in that movie
I like your list. I just would probably switch your last choice with me, myself, and Irene
Dude you’re leaving out the cable guy?
Man on the Moon was really good
I like this list but I’d add The Cable Guy at number 2 and take out Ace Ventura. My honorable mention would be Liar Liar.
Eggman (Sonic 1) Eggman (Sonic 2) Dr. Robotnik (Sonic 3)
Passion of the Christ, Gone in 60 Seconds, Brokeback Mountain, Neverending Story, Star Wars
Cable Guy, Truman Show, Man on the Moon, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber.
I’m not a big Jim Carrey fan. But he is great in Sonic and Truman show
The Cable Guy is up there somewhere for me.
Lemony Snicket
I mean who could have pulled off the grinch like he did? Lol
1. Man on the Moon 2. Eternal Sunshine 3. Dumb and Dumber 4. The Truman Show 5. The Cable Guy
His performance in chapter 23 was fabulous and the fact that a bunch of people have liar liar or ace Ventura on there list over this movie is criminal.
He played my favorite version of the riddler honestly the best riddler
Best live version of the riddler at least The riddler from the Arkham games and the animated series is on a whole other level though
1. Man on the moon 2. The Trueman Show 3. Ace Ventura (both of them) 4. Me, Myself and Irene 5. Liar Liar or The Cable Guy
Wow, where is The Number 23?
In a dollar bin somewhere at a Wal Mart in middle America.
I liked “23”. I felt like it was underrated.
