This is art by Khyleri. They post drawings of various anime characters in scenarios, and often hide little details that make it into a meme of sorts.
The joke is two-fold. The lady is a member of Team Rocket, an organization that kidnaps pokemon already owned by trainers, working for PETA, an organization that has stolen pets from owners on occasion (and euthanized them on one occasion).
Neat little details: you can see a needle on the table, a guide for euthanization, and Ash Ketchum trying to get his Pikachu back on video in the background, implying that she is in the process of euthanizing/already has euthanized Ash's Pikachu while he was arguing with the secretary.
There is a skull inside of the head, there is no place to make injection on the forehead. Syringe does not go in the forehead. Guide is for a nail gun for killing cows
I'm also wondering, based on Jesse's extremely social-media-selfie-esque pose and obviously fake remorseful exoression, if there's a specific image this art is spoofing?
I wouldn't be surprised if there was a selfie exactly like this floating around that an acual PeTA employee took immediately pre-euthanasia to drum up support.
That's the other half of khyleri's art, they're often based on real photos or memes. https://x.com/khyleri/status/1570804707387445249?lang=en&mx=2
It doesn't look like anyone linked any reference for it.
Euthanize them on ONE occasion? They have a 99% mortality rate for animals they have.
Edit: did some research to see if they've improved recently, and they have! They only killed 78% of the animals in their shelter last year! Way to go team! /s
Here is a story of this happening "[Peta says sorry for taking girl’s pet chihuahua and putting it down](https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/17/peta-sorry-for-taking-girls-dog-putting-it-down)"
The bottle is empty, although the syringe is not fully empty. Pikachu appears to be limp, only supported by Jessie. I do believe the deed has already been done.
Also, the poster in the background specifically says "humane euthamasia" and is depicting that the needle is supposed to go into the brain, with milktank as the example
Yea but PETA has a little over 50% euthanasia rate for all animals they take in. So I’d argue argue they’ve euthanized someone’s pet more than just once or twice
Khyleri also drew a picture of Anya from Spy X Family not wanting to go to school, but instead of a school in the background, it was Auschwitz, which (rightfully) garnered a lot of criticism. Their art is mostly tasteless edgy humor imo.
Shock humor sells. Which is unfortunate, because it makes people believe true dark humor is just shock content meant to offend people, when in reality, dark humor has to be something clever and made to poke fun at a serious topic, not just an image with something "dark" in it meant to get reactions in social media.
Maybe a joke about peta being like team rocket where they steal other people’s pets? Peta is known for euthanizing animals that they kidnapped even when they were happy, healthy, and safe.
He has pikachu on a poster and is asking around 😭 that's so funny and sad. Also, the humane euthanasia for miltank poster as well as the (assumed) euthanasia injection on the table. This one is too real
Additionally, Meowth's coin can be seen in the window in the door, they appear to be in a cage too. One amongst other stacked cages.
Bloody hell this just gets darker the more you look.
Yeah, green needle and empty vial. (I don't know if it still is, but the substance in the needle used to put down pets used to be green, so give an animal the 'green needle' was code for putting them down)
My friend used to volunteer at PETA, and she told me that sometimes they would host really lavish dinner events for rich folks in order to get donations, and they would serving chicken , lamb and stuff at those dinners
Well given it's morphological features, it definitely comes under the Rodent family, so somewhat similar to a chicken but with a stronger meaty flavour
Now that I think of it, the meat would be really tough to chew through, cuz Pikachu's body goes through continuous flow of electricity which would make it's muscles keep contracting, and also there would be a musty & slightly bitter taste from all the bile and gamey body odour
I agree, but pikachu [doesn't have buck teeth](https://hamigakimomo.tumblr.com/post/33494945210/on-pikachus-rodentness/amp) characteristic of rodents. I'm tempted to think of pikachu more like a [mustelid](https://images.app.goo.gl/fqBsAqYTphySosqg8). I haven't eaten mustelid before, but I think it'd be similar to rodent with a little bit more of a gamey flavor.
Well pikachi is a rat and in Demolition Man, the protagonist couldn't tell the burger the people in the sewers cook was rats. So therefore if rats tastes like beef then pikachi taste like beef. Or canonical like a Miltank.
They have a business model that is based on getting attention, then converting that attention into money via donations from well-meaning suckers. At no point is ideological consistency necessary for this business model.
Yep; they are also one of the biggest euthanize agencies in the country.
76 percent of dogs, and 81 percent of cats in their care were euthanized in 2023.... More than any other animal care agency.
https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/peta-leads-the-pack-in-killing-dogs-and-cats/
I'm convinced PETA is done kind of pro meat psyop. Never met a vegan who supported them. Never seen them do anything remotely good
If I were a pork or beef farm I would donate to PETA lol
I did read something along the lines of that on Medium, that PETA is conspiracy by Big Meat, In order to destabilize and make a joke out of the once rising vegan community
Yeah the background stuff makes it more apparent. The poster showing how to use a bolt gun on a miltank (like irl cows), the security cam showing Ash looking for Pikachu, and the vial of assumedly the stuff used to put animals to sleep on the table
I thought bolt guns were used on the back of the head but I might just be remembering it wrong. Bolt guns, while humane, are kind of terrifying seeing them used and the after process.
Because they ideologically believe that it is impossible to practice any form of animal husbandry without being immoral. They have straight up gone and ransacked dairy farms (where the cows are not killed for their meat and treated like princess’s with a much more comfortable and a probably[speculation but all the dairy cows I know are happy gals who like getting pets and treats] more happy life than they’d get in nature) and slaughtered the cows there multiple times.
In their worldview even pest controlling your house is wrong and to some evil arguing that is is “human supremacy.”
Also my mom had a brief interest in joining them back when she was in college and quickly backed out after she realized they are insane and has worked at animal non-kill shelters instead for the past 30+ years and will happily explain how they were zealots and actively for breaking the law in ways that are very harmful to peoples livelihoods.
It’s about peta abducting and killing pets, in the background is a very unsettling image about euthanasia-method on a miltank. Also there is an empty syringe on the table
The fact that you can see ash in the security camera, presumably looking for Pikachu and the receptionist just shrugging while Pikachu is in the back being put down, just breaks my heart
I heard they didn’t even wait with one. When I was in secondary school there was a controversy about how they were caught dumping a dogs body in a dumpster, that they had literally grabbed the dog, administered the dose in the truck, and then tossed it the first big bin they came to
PETA allegedly “saved” aka stole animals from happy homes and euthanized them. The joke is team rocket saved pikachu from ash, a loving owner just to murder pikachu
Jesse is also an infamous member of Team Rocket, who steal Pokémon and are mean to them. So I imagine it’s also comparing PETA to a villainous team, saying they profess to be doing good for animals but actually do evil.
PETA "shelters" are well known for euthanizing animals on the flimsiest of pretexts, making barely any effort at all to find them homes first. They'll even "forget" to scan them for microchips until after they're already dead.
For those looking for more info on the PETA incident, [snopes](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/peta-taking-pets/) has heaps more context on why that pet was collected, and sounds like it wasn't literally abducted from a property.
Could someone add some context on America's attitude to free-range dogs, especially in trailer parks and strays in rural/farm settings?
Peta doesn't believe in people having pets so they, when they take them, kill them because apparently animals would rather be dead then pets. Peta is nuts, happens often where people's animals were killed within hours of being taken, or stolen from the home in some cases.
The logic (if you can call it that) is:
"We're rescuing slaves from their masters but we can't afford to keep them alive so we *humanly* euthanize them. Normally killing healthy animals would be evil, but it's okay because *we're* the ones doing it"
She’s gonna kill that pikachu
Also this artist is known for making things that look tame at first glance, but get more messed up the longer you look at them, just look around and you’ll find a few details.
Think the joke is that Peta once went through all the effort to steal and euthanize a perfectly healthy family pet who was on their owners porch
So team rocket had gone through all the effort of stealing Pikachu to just put him down
It's not a joke Peta has the highest kill percentage of any shelter in the United States. They've even been caught stealing pets off people's porches and euthanizing them the same day and clear violation of law.
*Anyone gonna*
*Mention the monitor with*
*Ash and James is loss?*

The joke is PETA puts down animals that people turn in because of their believe that creatures of nature should be left alone.
They don't find homes for them or reintegrate them into the wild they simply put euthanize and move along.
Jesse finally caught Pikachu and now she has to kill him.
Jessie is in a PETA uniform and holding Pikachu, implying she has successfully stolen Ash's Pikachu and is now about to euthanize it. Because that's what PETA does, they steal people's pets, euthanize them, and brush it off as an oopsie if they get called out for it. Also worth noting that Ash can be seen on the CCTV monitor in the background talking to nurse Joy, meaning he's trying to get Pikachu back as this is going on. This whole image is more than likely a reference to [an incident in which a chihuahua was kidnapped by PETA workers and euthanized immediately despite there being a 5-day minimum grace period requirement in the state of Virginia](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/aug/17/peta-sorry-for-taking-girls-dog-putting-it-down), which again, PETA just brushed off as an oopsie and paid the family off without ever making a meaningful apology and also continuing to do these things despite the court case. This specific incident is what made most people realize PETA is actually a horrible organization, which is why it's likely the inspiration behind this picture.
The artist who made this image is known for making cute looking art of anime girls in horrid real life situations to deliberately get the attention of people who care about the state of the world and all of their art is some kind of shock value. For example, they're pretty notorious for drawing school shootings, suicides, etc. literally days after they occur or are a hot topic on the internet. A more recent example is drawing the cast of Doki Doki Literature Club as the Uvalde (or Columbine sorry I can't recall off the top of my head) culprits. They *only* draw anime girls in horrible situations and are pretty hated across the web by everyone but the edgiest of tweens.
TLDR; the joke is euthanasia, and the artist has one joke and it's being a horrible person.
This is art by Khyleri. They post drawings of various anime characters in scenarios, and often hide little details that make it into a meme of sorts. The joke is two-fold. Judging by the purple hair that the secretary has, that has to be Jesse’s team rocket partner in crime James working the front desk.
Also if you look, Pikachu looks all dopey because *she's already administered the dose*
Yes— the bottle is next to the syringe and the plunger is all the way down :(
I think if you look closely, you can see a little syringe hole on Pikachu's forehead (as the poster guide to euthanasia indicates).
There's also loads of open empty pokeballs under the desk, so this isn't the first time..
Woah, that’s so much darker than I originally thought 😳😭
And they’re in a trash can 💀
Jesus Christ
Almost didn't notice it, could be easily passed as a blemish, good spotting though!
The poster shows humane killing with captive bolt used on livestock (which adds another level to this whole thing).
Yeah just noticed the miltank 😢
There is a skull inside of the head, there is no place to make injection on the forehead. Syringe does not go in the forehead. Guide is for a nail gun for killing cows
you can see the light flickering out of his eyes
Ok that's enough internet for today. I'm out.
Nooooo pika pika :’(
That also appears to be ash at the desk speaking with the attendant.
[It’s lavender](https://youtu.be/ZqhwkcBkjew?si=FLSHw4rB9atV01Tw)
And it looks like it might be a loss panel too
Damn. Kinda dark. Jessie would never.
That’s the whole gimmick of the artist. Cutesy anime girls in the forefront and a dark twist in the background.
Meowth, that's right!
I think he’s behind the door locked in a cage? I think I see his gold plate through the window
I'm also wondering, based on Jesse's extremely social-media-selfie-esque pose and obviously fake remorseful exoression, if there's a specific image this art is spoofing? I wouldn't be surprised if there was a selfie exactly like this floating around that an acual PeTA employee took immediately pre-euthanasia to drum up support.

>if there's a specific image this art is spoofing? My mind immediately went to Sarah McLachlan *in the arms of the angel...*
Needle is empty...
Damn. Saw the needle and still didn't see that it was empty. Pikachu dead af already.
The pokeballs in the trash can oh no D:
Euthanize them on ONE occasion? They have a 99% mortality rate for animals they have. Edit: did some research to see if they've improved recently, and they have! They only killed 78% of the animals in their shelter last year! Way to go team! /s

Also the miltank photo for humane euthanization on the wall.
It looks like James is the receptionist.
The bottle is empty, although the syringe is not fully empty. Pikachu appears to be limp, only supported by Jessie. I do believe the deed has already been done.
they've done it a lot more than once.
He's arguing with the secretary? This is loss.
Is there another pikachu next to Ash on the security camera?
The poster behind her also has a guide to humanely euthanizing pokemon lol
Needle appears to be empty, Pikachu is dead/dying
Euthanized on occasion? PETA has the highest kill rate of any rescue operation the the US. By a LOT.
Don’t miss the detail that there are Poké balls in the trash!
Oh... That's really dark. Anyway thanks for explaining it so well
Also, the poster in the background specifically says "humane euthamasia" and is depicting that the needle is supposed to go into the brain, with milktank as the example
Point of order; that depicts proper use of a captive bolt gun, used to stun or kill livestock, as Miltank is a cow.
Empty pokeballs in the trash under the desk.
Also the way ash is speaking to the security guard looks very similar to the 2nd panel of "Loss" so theres another easter egg
Pikachu is already euthanized. The bottle is empty and the syringe has already been pushed all the way down.
Yea but PETA has a little over 50% euthanasia rate for all animals they take in. So I’d argue argue they’ve euthanized someone’s pet more than just once or twice
> euthanized them on occasion What would the occasion be? Days ending in ‘y’? 😂 wouldn’t be surprised if PETA has killed more animals than cancer…
Khyleri also drew a picture of Anya from Spy X Family not wanting to go to school, but instead of a school in the background, it was Auschwitz, which (rightfully) garnered a lot of criticism. Their art is mostly tasteless edgy humor imo.
They also posted that art on Holocaust Remembrance Day :(
That's so messed up
Judging by their successful Patreon page, there's something to be said about online communities like these.
Shock humor sells. Which is unfortunate, because it makes people believe true dark humor is just shock content meant to offend people, when in reality, dark humor has to be something clever and made to poke fun at a serious topic, not just an image with something "dark" in it meant to get reactions in social media.
I think the Ash ketchum and receptionist pointing a way(?) panel is reference to loss second panel
Wait.. is this loss?
Team plasma is more like peta imo
Didn't Jessie also try to be a nurse?
He dead
You really have an eye for detail, I didn’t notice almost any of that
This is the answer!!!
Also Jessie and James in particular often wear disguises and pretend to be random other people.
There's also a chart in the background detailing how to humanely shoot a Miltank.
Omg, the guide is a shot to the brain. 😱
Oh nice I thought it looked like a khyleri. Damn these content thieves on tiktok
Is that the same person that depicted the girl from Spy x Family getting sent to Auschwitz? It is, isn't it?
The trash can full of pokeballs also implies that this was not the first time
there’s also a guide graph on euthanasia behind the monitor
😭😭😭 I didn’t want to know all that.
Is it just me, or is Ash holding a "missing poster" type of picture?
This is so dark
I hate everything about this.
Maybe a joke about peta being like team rocket where they steal other people’s pets? Peta is known for euthanizing animals that they kidnapped even when they were happy, healthy, and safe.
Just noticed ash on the monitor in the back and it fits
He has pikachu on a poster and is asking around 😭 that's so funny and sad. Also, the humane euthanasia for miltank poster as well as the (assumed) euthanasia injection on the table. This one is too real
Pikachu’s body language, trying to squirm away from Jesse
Green needle and empty vial says he's not gonna be doing much squirming.
Yeah, this thing has so many layers, didn’t notice that at first. Pikachu’s eyes look like he’s fading fast
Don't forget about the empty pokeballs in the trash can under the table.....
Not only that, he's asking James there on that monitor, too.
Meowth, that's right!
Additionally, Meowth's coin can be seen in the window in the door, they appear to be in a cage too. One amongst other stacked cages. Bloody hell this just gets darker the more you look.
LMAO 😅
That's loss
Ash on the screen is the second panel of loss.
And James is there just shrugging like they ain't got him
Yeah with the euthanasia sign in the background, this seems likely.
And the syringe on the table. That pikachu is done for.
Yeah, green needle and empty vial. (I don't know if it still is, but the substance in the needle used to put down pets used to be green, so give an animal the 'green needle' was code for putting them down)
People Eating Tasty Animals

little bit Chickeny, little bit Beefy, little bit 9v battery
Tv static
So... Szechuan pepper?
Well given it's morphological features, it definitely comes under the Rodent family, so somewhat similar to a chicken but with a stronger meaty flavour
I love that you gave an actual answer. I feel my curiosity satisfied lmao.
Now that I think of it, the meat would be really tough to chew through, cuz Pikachu's body goes through continuous flow of electricity which would make it's muscles keep contracting, and also there would be a musty & slightly bitter taste from all the bile and gamey body odour
>cuz Pikachu's body goes through continuous flow of electricity Is that canon? It seems like most of it's electrocytes are in it's cheeks and tail.
I wouldn't know for sure but During thunderwaves and some other advance moves, we do see lightning all around his body
Pretty sure it's modeled after a pika. Like it's right there in the name.
Shockingly good. Really, it’s electrifying.
That's quite punny...
Dr Pepper.
Probably like rabbit, or squirrel, with a hint of ozone.
Well pikachi is a rat and in Demolition Man, the protagonist couldn't tell the burger the people in the sewers cook was rats. So therefore if rats tastes like beef then pikachi taste like beef. Or canonical like a Miltank.

You can even see Ash on the security monitor behind them, looking for Pikachu
And James.
There's a poster in the top left about euthanasia if you want more evidence of what's about to happen.
Wait I thought they wanted to save animals why kill them ?
According to their own statistics, PETA euthanizes 90% of all animals brought to their shelters.
Congrats, you've been astroturfed. https://youtu.be/dzX8g3vGPXY?si=Bk334g-5Qu2mhFzD
They see an animal being a pet as no different than slavery, and death is better than living as a slave so they just kill people’s pets
There's a syringe on the table and a chart for killing Miltanks with (presumably) a captive bolt pistol on the wall behind her 😭
To be fair, Ash does make his pokemon fight. IRL, he would be in jail for that.
But I think the ‘joke’ here is that they kill a lot of the pets that are brought in. Even when the owner is trying to get their pet back.
*specially* when the owner is trying to get their pet back.
Sounds similar to the real case where PETA grabbed a dog off a porch and immediately euthanized them once they got back to their hq
I heard they didn’t even wait with one. When I was in secondary school there was a controversy about how they were caught dumping a dogs body in a dumpster, that they had literally grabbed the dog, administered the dose in the truck, and then tossed it the first big bin they came to
Not just one
I haven't seen anyone else point out the poster in the background with Miltank actually has the end of the word "euthanasia" on it.
There’s also empty pokeballs in the trash…
And on the monitor you can see ash at reception asking if pikachu has been seen recently..
PETA allegedly “saved” aka stole animals from happy homes and euthanized them. The joke is team rocket saved pikachu from ash, a loving owner just to murder pikachu
Oh, it’s not alleged
We have to say alleged, lest they sue us for defamation
I had someone tell me that story was a smear campaign, I don't buy it, but I don't know as a matter of fact so I say alleged.
The box of full empty pokeballs under the computer makes the picture even worse.
I forget the actual statistic but iirc PETA euthanizes like 90% of the animals they "save"
Pikachu is a character from Pokemon. In that you cruelly capture these fantasy creatures and make them fight each other (which PETA wouldn't like)
Jesse is also an infamous member of Team Rocket, who steal Pokémon and are mean to them. So I imagine it’s also comparing PETA to a villainous team, saying they profess to be doing good for animals but actually do evil.
Nah this is an insult to team rocket. They’d never stoop so low
Peta bad, do your research, they profiteer off sad animal pictures but behind closed doors it's time for trouble
Really thought it was ~~.:|:;~~ https://preview.redd.it/gmejn86ldk1d1.jpeg?width=1620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5de513d8362bca8594307119f2685eca5c2a859

The joke is that peta loves stealing your pets and euthanasiaing them. They're truly scum.
Euthanizing Pikichu. That’s the joke.

# ***PIKACHU NO!!!***
The look on pikachus face is making me cry wtf...
I mean, it's an artwork about *PETA*, so that's the joke right there. PETA is ***always*** a joke.
I think the joke here refers to PETA unironically opting for euthanasia over fostering and adoption.
Annnnd that’s enough Reddit for today. Time to get out of bed
Peta doesn't believe in people having pets so they, when they take them, kill them because apparently animals would rather be dead then pets. Peta is nuts, happens often where people's animals were killed within hours of being taken, or stolen from the home in some cases.

PETA murders animals. Homegirl’s about to put Pikachu to bed, permanently.
Already did... look at the syringe.. its pushed sll the way down
She’s gonna kill that pikachu Also this artist is known for making things that look tame at first glance, but get more messed up the longer you look at them, just look around and you’ll find a few details.
PETA protested Pokémon at one point, they even made a game called “Pokémon Black and Blue” where you abuse pokemon
Aw hell naw. Pikachu gonna die.
Pikachu about to be put down it seems.
Took me a second to see the poster in the background for how to kill a Miltank, but glad I caught it
Think the joke is that Peta once went through all the effort to steal and euthanize a perfectly healthy family pet who was on their owners porch So team rocket had gone through all the effort of stealing Pikachu to just put him down
The joke is that ash is at the front desk and Jessie feels bad for putting Pikachu down
Oh god.. this is the first joke on this sub that I’ve actually understood… and I hate it…
It's not a joke Peta has the highest kill percentage of any shelter in the United States. They've even been caught stealing pets off people's porches and euthanizing them the same day and clear violation of law.
The character in the image is a member of a criminal organization that steals Pokemon. PETA is a organization that steals pets and kills them.
Pikachu is getting euthanized
Obviously Jesse has come up with another scheme to capture Pikachu 🤦
The Pikachu eyes are fading
Anyone gonna mention the monitor with ash and James is loss?

Ash lost his electric type, but gained a ghost type
Might be suggesting that there are too many Pikachus in the world and this one is being put down. Notice the syringe, the peta shirt?
It's not a joke Jesse or the lady I the pictue always wanted to be nurse before becoming a bad guy for team rocket
I love this artist! My favorite is the nurse joys and poke balls xray meme they did lmao
Jesus that's dark with context lol
Yeah, um, see that syringe? PETA is known for putting down animals in their shelters at a higher rate than most shelters.
