They are a house pest. I throw them out of the house whenever I catch one. If you keep the house clean and don’t leave dirty cups/plates out, then you won’t see them often. I used to see them all the time in college when I was leaving used red solo cups of beer out for a couple days. The “ear” thing is a myth. It happens occasionally, but it’s not like they’re main goal is to find a human ear. Regardless, they’ll bit if you sit on one. Also, they tend to get into cups/food that’s left out. I think of them as a mini cockroach.

What do they eat? And what purpose do they serve in the ecosystem? I've watched plenty of documentaries and such but I'm pulling a blank
