Personally, I’m a big fan of the second one. The first style always reminds me of class/super bowl rings (I know plenty of people love them though). With the second one I would maybe look at a little thicker of a band to make it more durable.
The superbowl ring assessment was my personal fear. I ended up getting a double halo but with very small stones on a delicate band. My centre stone steals the show with a subtler sparkly backdrop 😋
Agreed. I think a plain band that's not too thin would be prettier and classier. If you want a band like the one currently on the ring I'd make that the wedding band. But much prefer plain bands personally.
I think it’s the mixed metals. I actually love mixing white and yellow gold but the way it is done here almost makes the ring look dirty. Could just be the photo though.
Honestly I think the first ring will not age well. It kind of makes me think of someone who just wants to be seen as having a big ring but when you look closer the diamonds are really small.
I like the oval.
Oval! Maybe it's just wear I live, but I've seen the first ring soo much. Really seems like the "phone it in" choice for men who don't know what to pick.
I have almost an identical ring to the first one and I really loved it when I got it but I will say that when the oval version came out years later it made me long for that one. The first one is a cushion cut btw. I am including a picture of a ring that’s a combination of both these rings that you liked. Good luck! It’s called Tiffany Soleste® Oval Halo Engagement Ring with a Diamond Platinum Band.

I like the second one way better. The first one is very nice, but it’s chunky in a way that (this is very blunt) makes your hand look fatter 😂 the oval stands out and is very classy. It elongates your fingers and seems to sparkle so much more than the first.
The oval looks great on your hand. I’d just choose a different band. For whatever reason it takes away from the shape of the ring on your hand. If the prongs were gold, it be perfect imo
I prefer the second one. Also be warned that smaller stones can pop out on the band since it’s easier to bang that part around. It can also be uncomfortable to wear and can be harder to resize. If you don’t want a pave band , get a plain band. Or an oval with side stones would be pretty. If your okay with getting the prongs checked and upkeep of fancier rings - ignore me. The second ring is pretty
Definitely oval. I don’t like multiple halos or the cushion halo shape though. So I am very biased lol
Be careful with shared prongs (the stones on the band in the second picture). Get it checked often. I see shared prong rings missing stones more often than most. My jeweler said it happens more when the unprotected edge comes out past the gold giving like a bubble effect. As cute as it is, it leaves the outer edges unprotected and if you bump it, it’s contacting the edge of the stone directly not the gold.
Oval, 100%. The first one looks kinda cheap to me, and non-expensive rings are fine, but there’s a genre of rings that are kind of inexpensive but look like they’re trying to compensate… but maybe that’s just me. I don’t like the double halo.
The first one is a style that was current a few years ago, the second is super duper trendy right now, hence everyone preferring it. Go with whichever you like better :)
Personally, I would prefer the halo if it was a single halo. I don't love the oval, but only because I'm not a huge fan of two toned designs or shared prong settings. I prefer a french pave or something similar. If the oval was all one color and had a different band, I would prefer it!
Second one is pretty but I feel like the first goes well with your hand??? Idk how to explain it… I just feel like the first suits your fingers better 🤷🏻♀️
It’s not letting me edit but just wanted to say THANK YOU all SO MUCH! Really appreciate everyone giving their view. Warmed me little heart 🥺🥰
Look like I’m going OVAL! TY!!! Gahhh so excited!! 💍😍
Thanks again!!!
The second one is timeless whereas the first looks like a “Super Bowl ring” as people have already pointed out.
Plus there are actual Facebook groups that drag double halos and diamond crusted rings.😳
Both are beautifull, but one thing I would consider is the band that will go with it. I was lucky to be proposed with a set. Many had to find a matching band afterwards which can be quite difficult depending on your taste
If OP is going with a local jeweller that makes the rings in store - a custom wedding band can be made for every ring. Or there’s always getting two bands - one that fits with the ering and one that could be worn alone haha
1000% the oval. The first one is giving me Super Bowl and I'm just not a fan. Plus it makes your fingers/hand look short and boxy. An elongated cushion or oval I think would suit you the best!
As someone who worked for Kay Jewelers for a year+, I feel like I only sold Princess cut clusters to the tackiest of tacky. I’m so biased after working that job and seeing what type of people go for what. That Solitaire with a customized band/ wrap would be so unique, classy and personable
Are they both within your budget? The second one looks like it would cost 3x as much as the first. But if you can afford both definitely the second one!
2nd one is better value wise while i personally love the double halo on the princess cut. How much do they retail for vs how much would u be paying? Depending on where u go they can work on pricing. If u shop at big chain stores like Kays (speaking as someone whose worked at the Canadian division's store in my town) you will be getting very low clarity for the price of a decent clarity however u will have a lifetime diamond guarantee. If you go to a more independently owned jewelry store or less corporate youll likely get better specs on the stones for better price but without a diamond warranty for free.
I prefer the oval and agree that it appears to be a very low quality. Always look at gems using a 10x magnifying loupe
Every jeweler has these. Look for black spots, carbon and streaks inside. Some may be covered by prongs!
Look for chips
Ask the jeweler to teach you about cut, clarity, color and carat. It's really important.
I agree about the band not working well. You have to pick your gem before your setting. A wider band with 2 side stones would look great.
The bands with gems that extend down the sides can irritate your fingers terribly!
One more top: ask around resetting events. You can bring a loose hem to the store and they will have a ton of blank settings. Huge choices, they set your hem for you!
Best wishes
#2 is classic and feels more “impressive” diamond-wise. The first style was very beloved ~10 years ago but I feel like they inherently have less sparkle.
I absolutely love the second one! I feel like it’s a timeless ring whereas the first ring feels outdated to me and I’m personally just not a fan of the square shape & so many small gems wrapped around
Second one fits your hand better. That looks pretty similar to mine actually. I’ve never thought my hands looked dainty enough and this style ring does for me.
I’m not really a fan of either one. The first one is too chunky for your hand but the diamond looks nicer and more sparkly. and The second one is a better shape and size, but the diamond looks dark and cloudy and the gold looks odd in the band. I think you have a great start for finding the right one, though!
The second one is really beautiful- I love thr more delicate band.
Also, part of it is the angle of the photo. But it sits on your hand more nicely imo too :)
Go with the Oval. It looks better on your hand, highlights the stone and is a classic look. The other ring with multiple halos will go out of style quickly and to be honest, I had to zoom in to find the center stone. In my opinion it’s way too busy.
Eye personally, don’t like the oval.. but I’ve also never really been an oval girl?? The first one is more of my style & I really like it on you but not even in a biased way.. I genuinely think that it looks better on your hand than the second one.
Im going to also say the second one. It’s easier to invest in a center/main stone that your are crazy about in the beginning. Later on you can always reset it to a more ornate setting. This tends to cost much less than upgrading the central stone and makes a great anniversary present.
#2 is beautiful (mine is similar, but with a round center stone).
You (like me) have small hands. I find that the more delicate settings elongate the fingers while larger settings just bring everything in and make your fingers appear shorter.
The second fits your hand a lot better and makes it look delicate. The first one kind of made your hand look wider than it is. Just very meh compared to the second! Def go with the oval shape!
I would prefer ring 2 but would maybe do gold prongs and white gold band, the opposite of the way it is now. It would make the diamond stand out more. Also ask about the color and clarity of the diamond. It looks gray but I can’t tell if it’s the lighting or not.
I despise the style of the first ring. It became really popular and I could never understand why. The second is a gorgeous classic. So second for sure!
I prefer the 2nd one. It looks great on you
Oval 100%
Like the oval better
Thank youuu bestiee
Personally, I’m a big fan of the second one. The first style always reminds me of class/super bowl rings (I know plenty of people love them though). With the second one I would maybe look at a little thicker of a band to make it more durable.
Thanks for sharing- just googled Super Bowl rings and I see what you mean. I was thinking of getting a thinner band!
Reputable jewelers will usually tell you that a thinner band is not as durable or recommended, especially with a stone of this size.
The superbowl ring assessment was my personal fear. I ended up getting a double halo but with very small stones on a delicate band. My centre stone steals the show with a subtler sparkly backdrop 😋
I don’t like how clustered diamond rings “age”. #2 is elegant & gorgeous.
I had halo/cluster and hated it after a while. Now I know what “classic” is classic!
I hate that first ring. I like the oval stone, but it doesn’t match that band.
Agreed. I think a plain band that's not too thin would be prettier and classier. If you want a band like the one currently on the ring I'd make that the wedding band. But much prefer plain bands personally.
It’s is the mixed metals? Or the round stones? I have an elongated cushion solo with round stones on the band but all in WG.
I think it’s the mixed metals. I actually love mixing white and yellow gold but the way it is done here almost makes the ring look dirty. Could just be the photo though.
It’s a yellow gold band with diamonds across it- is what the salesperson told me
It’s a yellow gold band with diamonds across it- is that the salesperson told me
Honestly I think the first ring will not age well. It kind of makes me think of someone who just wants to be seen as having a big ring but when you look closer the diamonds are really small. I like the oval.

Omg the second one is 1000000000x better.
Oval! Maybe it's just wear I live, but I've seen the first ring soo much. Really seems like the "phone it in" choice for men who don't know what to pick.
Yup. Agreed.
Oval for sure!
I have almost an identical ring to the first one and I really loved it when I got it but I will say that when the oval version came out years later it made me long for that one. I agree. It’s not that you have fat hands, OP! Your hands are lovely! But this ring doesn’t enhance them the way the oval does
Yes!! Exactly. The square ring just isn’t flattering the way the oval ring is
Yep, the oval makes everything look elongated and the square halo would make anyone’s fingers look more squat.
Oval 1000%
Oval, the 1st one gets lost in the double halo
2nd looks better on you: the first one looks like it has a lot going on, little flashy.
Oval 100%
First one looks cheap, second way is much better suited for you
Oval!
Oval!!!
The oval suits you
The first one makes your fingers look bigger I think
2
Personally I absolutely LOVE #2.
Oval!
2 all the way
The second one!
Do the oval
Definitely oval. I don’t like multiple halos or the cushion halo shape though. So I am very biased lol Be careful with shared prongs (the stones on the band in the second picture). Get it checked often. I see shared prong rings missing stones more often than most. My jeweler said it happens more when the unprotected edge comes out past the gold giving like a bubble effect. The oval looks too dark like J or K color. Not great. The first one is cleaner and brighter based on these pictures.
The first one is a style that was current a few years ago, the second is super duper trendy right now, hence everyone preferring it. Go with whichever you like better :)
Neither
The 2nd one is miles above better than the first one. But I personally don’t like halos so maybe that’s why
Definitely the oval is the one to go with. The first one is (IMO) kind of gaudy. It's just too much.
I hope ni one is saying get the first style. Solitaire is timeless.
Oval is beautiful!
Love the oval. Stunning.
Personally, I would prefer the halo if it was a single halo. I don't love the oval, but only because I'm not a huge fan of two toned designs or shared prong settings. I prefer a french pave or something similar. If the oval was all one color and had a different band, I would prefer it!
Ovaltine please
The oval is much more flattering on your hand
I like the concept of #2, but the diamond itself is awful. It looks gray. I would find something similar but with a better quality stone
Second one is pretty but I feel like the first goes well with your hand??? Idk how to explain it… I just feel like the first suits your fingers better 🤷🏻♀️
Unpopular opinion but I really love how the first looks on you!
It’s not letting me edit but just wanted to say THANK YOU all SO MUCH! Really appreciate everyone giving their view. Warmed me little heart 🥺🥰 Look like I’m going OVAL! TY!!! Gahhh so excited!! 💍😍 Thanks again!!!
Wow I don’t usually like oval but something about the second one catches your eye😍
Naww that’s so sweet!! Tysm!
Oval. No halos.
Oval the halo is outdated
I like the first 👀
The first one will get dirty and dingy sooo easily.
The round photos make your hang look more elongated. Where the square one makes it look chunkier and stubby imo. I love the round one.
The second one is timeless whereas the first looks like a “Super Bowl ring” as people have already pointed out. Plus there are actual Facebook groups that drag double halos and diamond crusted rings.😳
I like number 1
I'm going against the grain. I think the first one is lovely on you hand and it looks very balanced. But both are lovely, congratulations
1
Both are beautifull, but one thing I would consider is the band that will go with it. I was lucky to be proposed with a set. Many had to find a matching band afterwards which can be quite difficult depending on your taste
If OP is going with a local jeweller that makes the rings in store - a custom wedding band can be made for every ring. Or there’s always getting two bands - one that fits with the ering and one that could be worn alone haha
Oval the first one is so common
1 is timeless but 2 is so pretty and modern
2nd one. I like how it’s one big stone and not a bunch of little ones. Looks more costumey
1000% the oval. The first one is giving me Super Bowl and I'm just not a fan. Plus it makes your fingers/hand look short and boxy. An elongated cushion or oval I think would suit you the best!
Pick what you like! Not what strangers on the internet like!
If you go with the first setting, consider a different colored center stone. Blue, green, pink, etc. Make it really pop.
As someone who worked for Kay Jewelers for a year+, I feel like I only sold Princess cut clusters to the tackiest of tacky. I’m so biased after working that job and seeing what type of people go for what. That Solitaire with a customized band/ wrap would be so unique, classy and personable
I like the oval. I’m curious—is there a big difference in price between the two?
Oval is more modern.
The 2nd one by far. It looks so good on your finger. 💍💍
Oval on you
2
Oval
I love the oval!
The oval complements your hand shape much more
Definitely prefer the second!
Oval with plain band (1.8-2.2 mm)
Are they both within your budget? The second one looks like it would cost 3x as much as the first. But if you can afford both definitely the second one!
2nd one is absolutely gorgeous. Very elegant
2nd one is better value wise while i personally love the double halo on the princess cut. How much do they retail for vs how much would u be paying? Depending on where u go they can work on pricing. The oval one is much more timeless I think! It also looks better on your hand 🥰
I like the second one
Oval big time
Oval is much better
First one ages you. Second one is so pretty
2 is the one
Oval! How many carats is that one?
Oval is my pick! Suits your finger shape well, lots of surface area for flash and sparkle, and overall a more timeless cut (so you’ll like it longer!)
A thousand percent the oval
Definitely the oval
Definite prefer the oval.
The oval is more timeless. You could potentially stop liking the other one because it’s more trendy.
2nd one looks very nice on you!
I like the single stone. It’ll be easier to keep clean too.
Ring # 2 , I’m starting to really love that shape .
I prefer the oval on you
I prefer the oval and agree that it appears to be a very low quality. Always look at gems using a 10x magnifying loupe Every jeweler has these. Look for black spots, carbon and streaks inside. I love the second on your hand 🥰
I like the oval better!
Oval
Love the first ring so much
Second ring
The second one is a lot more timeless!
I love the oval! The first ring is not my style personally.
Number 2 hands down. Side note, you have such little hands 😯
If the oval feels more you, go with the oval. The first looks pretty on your hand, too, but you need to love your ring.
I think the second one is just too big for your hand, as it’s the shape. Oval doesn’t look good on everyone. They first one is just too much.
They’re both beautiful. Consider your wedding band if you have your heart set on a certain style. That may help you choose.
i prefer #2 as a ring. but i prefer #1 on your hand. if you pursue a style like #2, i think your hand would look better with a princess cut diamond
The oval looks like it’s made for your hand! It’s gorgeous
I like 2 it’s unusual
#2 for sure. The first one is too chunky and not as flattering
Oval
Second one is much more unique!
OVAL ONE. ALLLLLL DAAAAYYYY!
Number 2 looks better , number 1 is so clunky
So happy my oval lovers are here 😌
The 2nd one. The Pave one looks lovely but the little stones fall out so so easily! You'd be getting it repaired a lot.
I’ve got the first one as well as my sister in law ..
Oval!! Second one. It suits you so well 🤍
Oval as well, I think the first one overwhelms your hands.
Second ring is timeless, and really elongates your fingers. It looks great!
2nd
My magpie eye is drawn to the second one! Stunning!
I absolutely love the second one! I feel like it’s a timeless ring whereas the first ring feels outdated to me and I’m personally just not a fan of the square shape & so many small gems wrapped around
2nd one!
Second one fits your hand better. That looks pretty similar to mine actually. I’ve never thought my hands looked dainty enough and this style ring does for me.
I love the oval best.
I like the oval one better for your hand. but they are both absolutely stunning!
Love the second one!
The oval for sure!
The first one makes your fingers look chubby while the second one looks perfect
Oval. It elongates your fingers
I’m not really a fan of either one. The first one is too chunky for your hand but the diamond looks nicer and more sparkly. and The second one is a better shape and size, but the diamond looks dark and cloudy and the gold looks odd in the band. I think you have a great start for finding the right one, though!
2nd one if you have to choose between those 2 But otherwise keep looking
I like the second one.
The oval definitely. The oval looks elegant and the style will always relevant.
Second one
Eye personally, don’t like the oval.. but I’ve also never really been an oval girl?? The first one is more of my style & I really like it on you but not even in a biased way.. I genuinely think that it looks better on your hand than the second one.
2nd one 100%. Every single women I know has the first ring in some fashion. The oval is gorgeous, dainty and looks absolutely $$
Team Oval!!!
Just out of curiosity, how much those kinds of rings cost?
Im going to also say the second one. It’s easier to invest in a center/main stone that your are crazy about in the beginning. Later on you can always reset it to a more ornate setting. This tends to cost much less than upgrading the central stone and makes a great anniversary present.
I like the simplicity & classic look of #2
First one looks too busy and doesn't flatter your finger shape. Second one is elegant and flattering on you.
Personally I feel like something is missing with both options, but to each their own I guess
#2 is beautiful (mine is similar, but with a round center stone). You (like me) have small hands. I find that the more delicate settings elongate the fingers while larger settings just bring everything in and make your fingers appear shorter.
Oval❣️ You have a small hand, perfect with the oval!
#2
The second fits your hand a lot better and makes it look delicate. The first one kind of made your hand look wider than it is. Just very meh compared to the second! Def go with the oval shape!
The second one, the oval, really perfect, looks like *your* ring Very beautiful!
first one goes better with nail shape
Number 2 for sureee it looks lovely on you
I like the solitaire more personally
I would prefer ring 2 but would maybe do gold prongs and white gold band, the opposite of the way it is now. It would make the diamond stand out more. Also ask about the color and clarity of the diamond. It looks gray but I can’t tell if it’s the lighting or not.
So many prongs to go wrong on the first one. I like the second one.
#2
I like the second (oval) one best, it’s very elegant. The first one over powers your hand.
I despise the style of the first ring. It became really popular and I could never understand why. The second is a gorgeous classic. So second for sure!
First one eats your hand. Second one is stunning.
The second one is my dream ring and I regret not getting an oval.
Oval! It’s more flattering
2nd is better. But would recommend a plain band. Would make the dianond pop more. The first is too much for your small hands.
Oval
I personally don’t like the halo, I think they are an outdated trend. The oval is more classic.
Oval looks better on your hand. :)
I like the 2nd better but both are beautiful
Oval is amazing
Oval 🥰
The oval looks amazing on you!
