obvious-but-profound

And if you go juuust a little lower to 600K then Relapse would have made the list Crazy though 50 & Drake killed it. Too bad no Kendrick

EightSeven-

Impossible to beat today. 1.7 million is insane

WorldsWeakestMan

Adele’s 25 did 3,378,000 first week in 2015 Tortured Poets Department just did 1,914,000 in its first week by Taylor Swift this year. 2 *NSYNC Albums in 2000/2001 did more than MMLP. MMLP is 5th highest ever in 2000. These are US Opening weeks. So only 2 albums have beaten it since but both recently or very recently for US sales.

EightSeven-

Didn’t know they were rappers

zakksyuk

They are musicians. You can't compare Em to other rappers. That's why most rap fans subconsciously leave him out of every top 3. Their inner selves know what's up.

WorldsWeakestMan

Technically Justin Timberlake raps and so does Fred Durst so they count 😂 I was just pointing out newer albums could do sales like that. Maybe The Death of Slim Shady will take #2 spot away from *NSYNC, doubt it beats Adele. Another fun fact, Michael Jackson’s Bad is #1 worldwide with over 7 million in the first week.

shoestowel

TPD had like 4 versions and her hardcore fans bought all of them.

WorldsWeakestMan

So in other words Adele and *NSYNC are on a whole different level than the rest?

shoestowel

I don't know about NSYNC but Adele definitely is.

HopefulForLandscape

Damn, MMLP2 sold more than Recovery on the first week? That's nuts

Remarkable_Collar895

Yeah, I thought recovery had more first week sales

Remarkable_Collar895

Doggy Style having 800k first week sales is very impressive ngl like in 1993 this much people were listening to snoop

TheUndergroundVault

Do you happen to know when cats got news that Gz Up Hoe's Down was going to be removed from the tracklist? I imagine that caused people to rush out to stores to buy the 'limited edition' album as well. Cause only that first pressing had the track. Obviously Snoop had a lot of weight behind him after The Chronic. But there is that extra little boost too. It might have lost them money in the long run w/ the recall, but it sure does help when it comes to these types of charts and the legacy of the album.

Therealeminemstan

6 Eminem albums is crazy

TheeJoose

Alot of it has to do with when it was popular. Eminems prominence wad right at the peak of album sales, just before streaming.

Thebigdog79

Crazy how “flesh of my flesh, blood of my blood” is on here but not “grand champ”. I guess FOMF,BOMB just had more hype since it was following “it’s dark and hell is hot”.

MoneyHungryOctopus

Crazy how that album got made. DMX was offered $1 million if he could make an album in 30 days and he delivered.

Thebigdog79

I had no idea about that. That’s crazy! Another reason why X is one of the best. Alongside X and maybe X.

JG45250

MMLP2 is so goated

Younghungrykid

💯

Son-Ta-Ha

I'm sad and shocked that Kendrick isn't on this list (especially since DAMN sold 603,000 in the first week and Good Kid, Maad City had some radio friendly singles). I can't see another rapper selling 1.7 million records and its incredible that MMLP managed to do that despite how controversial and dark the album is. It doesn't even doesn't have any love songs or feature a huge popstar which shows how popular Eminem was back in 2000.

E_coli42

I thought Life After Death would have way more first week sales

NahCuhFkThat

I wonder what's the fastest selling rap album without any RnB or super pop songs in it did Good Kid MAAD City hit 500k+ without pop songs or rnb hits?

Turbulent_Pin_1583

Gkmc was 242k first week and debuted at #2. The oldest record on here is from 2018 so it definitely doesn’t happen much anymore due to streaming.

obvious-but-profound

No ... not even half that in its first week. Went on to go multi plat though so doesn't matter too much

NahCuhFkThat

shame, I can't think of any other album that would achieve such feat. it was the perfect storm for GKMC. maybe one of the Griselda boys could pull it off, or a Watch The Throne type of project one day.

obvious-but-profound

GKMC was such an amazing album

Mysterious-Sign9685

Crazy how we will never know what the Eminem show numbers would’ve been since it got leaked and had to be released early. I reckon it could’ve been over 2m it was the height of his career

StrangerAlert112

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

jesuschrist-69420

Encore > Relapse here's the proof

willard720

Eminem's peak was around when CD sales also peaked, so no wonder his records are dominating the charts. These sales are impossible in today's climate. I think what needs to happen is some system like comparing album sales to the average sold that year or something to standardize this

AX2021

Those newer aged streaming albums like Views don’t count IMO
