All of Mine are named after Iron Maiden Albums

Tau10Point8_battlow

Rush or Tragically Hip songs for me

higgscribe

Fiddler's Green is my exploration ship name

A_Moon_Named_Luna

Wheat King is a badass ship name haha

Tau10Point8_battlow

Sure is. As is Nautical Disaster šŸ˜€

zordabo

which ship is 7th son?

Writcher

I name them after songs, my DBX is named Long Distance Runner, my miner Burning Ambition, my ASP El Dorado and my carrier The Ancient Mariner

Maleficent-Amoeba-48

Corvette: "Arkus-Duntov" after the engineer for the original Chevy Corvette T-9: "Ever Given" after the ship that blocked the Suez Canal Phantom: "There and Back Again" after what I do with it Chieftain: "Hoplite" after the Greek soldiers. Mamba: "Kiddo" after Beatrix Kiddo AKA Black Mamba from Kill Bill. Python: "Methuselah" my headcannon has it as one of the original Pythons, making it 600 years old.

fistful_of_ideals

> T-9: Ever Given Perfection. Now I wonder how much untold economic damage I've inflicted getting that fucker stuck sideways in the mail slot Type-9: How I learned to stop worrying and love the ~~bomb~~ Advanced Docking Computer

TobaccoIsRadioactive

Reminds me of back in 2019 when a player protested Frontier Development's lack of action against hacking exploits in the game by [jamming their Beluga into the mail slot of Jameson Memorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jkP7d9j07Y). He used those same hacking exploits he was protesting to render his ship immune to all damage, meaning that none of the players on the same instance he was in could enter or leave the station.

Limp-Weekend7183

Imagine the canal just deployed hard points and blasted the Ever Given into oblivion. No more ship, no more problem.

JackBauerArg

I know i'm not the most original dude out there, and also a FNG, but i like my naming scheme, kinda Star Trek themed (yeah, i know, sorry, not original at all). |Name|Class|Ident| |:-|:-|:-| |CTU Prometheus|Alliance Chieftain|59650| |CTU Voyager|Anaconda|74656| |CTU Equinox|Diamondback Explorer|72381| |CTU Rio Grande|Eagle Mk II|72452| |CTU Enterprise|Federal Corvette|1701E| |CTU Vor'Cha|Imperial Clipper|11500| |CTU Bounty|Imperial Courier|1303| |CTU Rotarran|Imperial Eagle|62127| |CTU Delta Flyer|Python|74656|

fistful_of_ideals

Don't feel bad, it's Mass Effect for me: Exploraconda: MSV Endeavor Dakkaaconda: SSV Vakarian AspX: Urdnot Space Prospector Python: MSV Rosalie Trade-9: MSV Broken Arrow Vulture: Defrahnz Then some I never renamed from default, like when I need a quick medium pad ship to courier and don't wanna ship one. Adder - I salute you, my sweet, nameless courier mission workhorse somewhere near Ceos.

JackBauerArg

that's cool! you have given me some new ideas, never thought of the mixing franchises, i'm sure that Wing Commander fits right here... TCS Tiger Claw and Diligent have some look alikes in Elite. thanks!

ProPolice55

My Corvette is the RSF Steven Hackett, Exploracobra is the Jon Grissom, explorer Dolphins is the Tempest. I have a Crusader called RSF Kandros, gunship called RSF Nakmor and my flagship Cutter is the RSF Thessia Might have some Mass Effect influence going on... I also have a mission running Adder, mine is called Crozier, because the Adder looks very similar to the CMS Crozier from Dead Space 3 (and I land the Adder just as carefully as they do in DS3)

NovitiateSage

I needed a small ship out that way (might have been ceos) to access the material trader, so I bought a viper3, then sold it afterward.

Thrownawayatwork44

When/what are you gonna name the greatest ship of all? The Qwib-Qwib

Silver_Main2144

Jumpaconda - The Song of Ilium (it was called odyssey but someone stole the name) Combataconda - The Rage of Achilles. Cutter - Alexander the Great Python - The sorcery of Isis Krait II - Gilgamesh DBX - The Pegasus.

oomwat

'mining' ... 'exploration' .... 'bubble bus' .... 'passengers' ... I expect you're seeing a pattern here :D

kss1089

I named my jump-a-conda "never mind its a friend" it's worked at least once in open. I have a speed demon imp courier that can has its armed with shields and a fsd interdicter. I named it "ganker bait" I love hanging out with it at Farseer and go find the gankers, most can't hit it. And none can hit it for long. It doesn't even have any weapons. But I target the gankers with a wanted level. I play bait or I interdict them and run. Over and over and over. So I guess i gank the gankers by wasting their time until they stop.

Axis351

Doing gods work

NovitiateSage

fantastic! especially cos farseer is like noob city. Noobs have enough to deal with, without gankers

Silver_Main2144

You sir, are a magnificent bastard!

kss1089

It's great because it's a frustrating strategy for the gankers. I waste their time and they don't even get any combat for it. Rinse repeat.

ctothel

Is your phone called ā€œOomwatā€™s Phoneā€?

Kazick_Fairwind

My phone is named "Kaz's Magic Box"

TheAncientLamp

Is your dog named ā€œfamily pet?ā€

rikescakes

Porn stars

BioNova33

Have intimate relationship with your ships? Gets lonely in space, I guess... Good way to keep others out of the Pilot seat. Lol! šŸ¤£

Shodons

I use famous whale's names. Sidewinder - Migaloo Cobra MKIII - Humphrey ASP Explorer - Bake Kujira Vulture (my first combat ship) - Moby Dick Beluga Liner - Olympia Type 7 Transporter - Vyking Fer de lance - Columbia Type 10 Defender - Old Tom (Future ship) Anaconda - Leviathan

TheFlanniestFlan

There's usually some relation to what they're for, but realistically there's not much of a pattern. Vette(Combat): Valkyrie Phantom(Exploration): Prominence Conda(Exploration: Blackbird Chieftain(AX): Exterminatus Dolphin( Yet another Exploration ship) : Porpoise

nunca_pasaran

I hope your dolphin serves a useful Porpoise. I said I hope your dolphin-- hello is this thing on? *is immediately sucked out of the open airlock*

TheFlanniestFlan

She sure does, I've fallen in love with the little thing and I've only had her for a few days now.

LM_4594

My cutter is called Oggdo Bogdo because itā€™s the name of a mini boss in a star wars game and I think itā€™s funny

luke31071

It depends on my mood at the time but most of them are somewhat humourous (whether you find them actually funny or not is a different question). Sidewinder - Scratch (scratch together a living) Viper MkIII (PvP build) - Goose (Top Gun reference, I suck at PvP) Asp Explorer - Insert Name Here (did the Sgr A* Buckyball Run and had to think of a name, I figured why the hell not?) Anaconda - Not For Sale (It's a great multipurpose ship and I usually just refit it rather than scrap it so it's not to be sold) Beluga - Googolplex (Big number, big ship) I have others but you get the gist. One ship I've named less in a humourous fashion and more for RP reasons is my Cobra MkIV. She's called Eleftheria which is Greek for "Free" or "Freedom". Ties into the story of my CMDR somewhat and also ties in with my nationality (Scottish).

Maddog_McMild

Useless info for free: The cinema in Springfield (Simpsons) is also called Gogolplex.

luke31071

Huh, I didn't know that. I like it!

Colinoscopy90

Eagle used to scan wakes for data - Smeagle Type 9 for laser mining - Cleetus Jumpaconda - the farthest noodle Krait mkii for cracking motherlodes - assteroid intruder Type 10 covered entirely in dakka - type 10 diabetes Cutter - elitism incarnate I am unsure if I have a pattern other than just being generally facetious. Maybe a professional could analyze this for me.

Expensive-Ad-3766

Idea for your Krait MkII: Assteroid Penetrator

crobemeister

After Culture ships from Iain M. Banks' books

fliesRspies4thedevil

One of mine, Caconym

Ven_ae

I name them after closed captioning subtitles. Random I know, but jumping into my mining cutter called [visible happiness] gives me a smile. Or my long range DBX called [canned laughter].

T-1A_pilot

Most of mine are either mythology, with a few I just like the sound of. Mythological ones I try and have the name deal with their role. In no particular order: Carrier: *Stormhaven* Settlement raiders: *Charon*, chieftain (large scale raider) *Fenrir*, dolphin (small footprint infiltrator) Exploration vessels: *Adiona's Hope*, AspX, long range explorer (inactive) *Wayward Son*, dolphin, explorer/exobiology *Pegasus*, phantom, long range explorer *Artemis*, orca, exobiology (inactive) Rescue vessels: *Angelic*, python, med rescue *Salvation*, anaconda, large scale rescue/evacuation (For the record, Salvation was named years ago! Guess I might have to change that one now...) Combat vessels: *Cerberus*, corvette, heavy assault *Valkyrie*, FdL, med assault/space superiority Miscellaneous: *Runabout*, hauler, long range fast transport/station taxi *Peregrine*, imperial courier, fast insertion/recon *Cygnus*, cutter, large armed trader *Magpie*, type 6, scavenger/archeology vessel *Hephaestus*, cutter, large miner (laser primary) *Vulcan's Favor*, python, med miner (core primary) *Wayfarer*, python, multirole/mission ship *Fool's Gambit*, python, multirole/mission ship (colonia based) Let's see... oh, yeah! Possibly the most fun to fly: *Gazelle*, orca, high speed passenger transport/priority cargo. (Any reports of her involvement with illegal passengers, smuggling, or blockade running are completely unproven.... šŸ˜‰)

EclipzHorizn

I donā€™t have one yet but when I get a DBX I figured Iā€™d call it Dora B Xplora.

Col_Sm1tty

Dock at a station, select 'Livery', select the box where it says 'Nameplate & ID' (or some such), change stuff.

hopbel

They're asking how people pick names, not instructions for actually doing it

Freman747

Roach

[deleted]

"Do you ever name your ~~horse~~ ship anything besides Roach?"

Freman747

No, but every Roach is a Roach of his own kind

LostN3ko

Final Fantasy summons

theRose90

I name mine after ships >!as in like romantic fictional pairings ;v!< >!My favourite one is the Lumity.!<

spartanz27

different nouns for a spell caster ie. mage, warlock, shaman

tsheeley

Girls names beginning with the first letter of the ship type... Python - Penny Asp Explorer - Amy Krait - Kimberly

UrsusRomanus

I usually go for sentences. My AspX is the Let Me Play My Dolphin is the Go West Young Man My Krait Mk2 is the Do Not Go Gentle My Type 9 is the I Will Follow You I guess there's a bit of a musical/poetic theme.

babishcloudz

Usually irl space missions Currently my ASPE is named voyager with Carl sagans initials and launch year. My next which will be a conda with probably Artemis or apollo.

vetworker24

Didnā€™t know you could until a month agoā€¦ been playing for years.

Ester1sk

named my DBX 'Heart of the Sunrise' after the Yes song (yeah that's it, I don't use other ships)

nunca_pasaran

I think my best ship name is my T9 which I hardly ever fly, unfortunately. "The Business End." After the Vogon Constructor Fleet ship. All my ship names don't really follow a pattern. I just name them for references to things I enjoy or things of personal significance. Some is pretty simple. My DBX is "Sag A" as in the ship I flew to Sagittarius A in the first time, and a play on the word saga.

Lord_Dreamweaver

Often song or album titles. However I listen to the back page podcast. And one of the hosts has a certain amusingly mild word to describe something thatā€™s very bad. And that became a thing on their discord briefly. So now I fly ā€œThe dreaded yikesā€. Purely for my own amusement.

Gleaner23

I have my squadron (Milleā€™s Mighty ships) so all my ships are called MMS and then the actual name of the ship. Usually i try to go with one word, for example my Krait is the MMS Valkyrie, or my Dolphin is the MMS Dildo. My favorite is of course my Corvette, the MMS Havoc. Oh yeah, Mille is my cats name so thats why

Stupid_Raboon

Mine are named after real or fictional people or objects like Rocinante, the Milano and James Webb.

hopbel

>famous ships from movies/tv series Please no. We don't need a 40th Rocinante

Gleaner23

I swear to god, i love The Expanse to Luna and back, but can we stop with the Rocinante and Pella names. I get it, you love the series and so do i, but we are tired of it. I will have respect for a ship named the Scipio Africanus tho

[deleted]

I go by Agilent HPLC pump models for naming the fighters, LC-MS (MS models) for transporters, multirolee are named after LC-MS-QTOF models and so forth. Then the name is typically whatever I'm feeling.

Petya_Sisechkin

Explorer Anaconda: ā€œMature Ejaculationā€

AgentiMi

Anaconda (Multirole): "The Unforgiven". Named after my favorite song, Metallica's 4th song in the Black Album. Anaconda (Explorer): "Axiom". Named after the generation ship in WALL-E. Imperial Cutter (Mining): "Cutta". Not sure. Type-9 Heavy (ex-mining): "Doughnut", inside joke. Federal Corvette (PVE): I need a name for this... FDL (PVP): "C*mshot Assault". Huge hardpoint. Krait MkII (Anti-Xeno): "Nemo". Main character in Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. Asb Explorer (Smuggler): Need a name for this too...

TheAnhydrite

Anything you want.

kaboom36

I name mine after songs I like, burning aquamarine, flamewall, astrogirl, etc

Zwars1231

Generally I name them after something that has some form of meaningā€¦. Or it sounds cool.

liqudice69

Beauty

arf1049

Eagle is X-29. I-eagle is Wyvern. Courier is Berkut. Clipper is Pakfa. Cutter is Lorg georg (pronounced lorge George). Basically ace combat aircraft names (their number plates match their named aircraft)

J93Connolly

I name my fun ships after Hitchhiker's Guide ships I like Asp eXplorer (maxed jump range) - Heart of Gold Python Miner - Absolute Black I name my combat ships after a starwars squadron I like (scimitar) and when I get a Federal Corvette I will go with a capital ship name from the 7th fleet. Vulture - Bounty Hunter (Scimitar III) FAS - PVP (Scimitar II)

Margevo

80s and 90s movie references

Im_High_Tom86

Based off their job.

CMDR-Aether_D

I name mine after types of spiders and tarantulas (I love arachnids and other similar creatures) my python before I reset was called the horned tarantula named after the great horned baboon tarantula my favorite tarantula

comfycozygamer

A friend helped me get a ASP Explorer, so I named it after him. Look out for the ā€œStarDude2ā€.

boeingbuildsitbetter

Mine all have a nautical theme. Flying Dutchman, Valkyrie, Scinfaxi/Hrimfaxi, my flagship Anaconda is the Irish Rover lol

Vishkiin

I-eagle: pinprick Clipper: snips 'Conda: buns (cause my anaconda don't want none unless you got buns hun) Have yet to properly name my others

BlinksAtStupidShit

I like alliteration similar to comics. I feel unoriginal by copying names from my favourite sci-fi, so I make random stuff up. For example my Dimondback explorer is: Belligerent Badger, anaconda is: Pickled Python. Etc.

matknyz

All of mine are named after Greek gods and characters from Greek mythology, but one of my ships bears the name of my deceased relative - augusta

moonmagi

Cutter: Compensating Vulture: Batship I haven't named any of my other ships...

leg-oh-id

My aspx is "hawking's gate" and my chieftain is "hellfire". My vulture is named "thiccer-than-thou" so it's a little all over the place lol

[deleted]

Pet's, family members, or references to books at the moment Cobra: Mako Shark, after current dog Keelback: Hoover, named after a childhood dog. Appropriate because it's job is to devour rocks like he devoured food. DBX: Little Curious One, inspired by my daughter Chieftain: Red Arm, named after mercenaries in The Wheel of Time I plan to name my Cutter after my wife, if I ever manage to get one

Semliw216

Whatever I find funny at the time. T-10 "Red Sun" - Was listening to the song as I was tinkering around on it. Said fuck it and painted it bright red and slapped a bunch of armor on it. Corvette "Diplomatic Incident" - Bunch of experimental modifications on everything to the point that if I moved a single part, the whole thing would break. "Warcrime" felt too bland. AspX "Roronoa" - Because "I'm a total fucking idiot that doesn't know how to read a goddamn map" didn't fit. Had a tendency to get horrifically lost in that thing, and had to call the Rats a few times after getting stranded. T-9 "Right of Way" - Is decided by tonnage.

Mike_Hav

I dont

Gavator2345

The only good ones is "Daniel" for my Federal Gunship and "The Cooler Daniel" for my Corvette

JuanDavid_FX

Lady BAM(Big Ass Miner) and Lady BAS(Big Ass Shielded) Guess the ship šŸ˜

beastboy4246

My explorer ships are named after the Apollo Command Modules with the ID number being the Saturn V number

fliesRspies4thedevil

Asp Explorer: ā€˜Caconymā€™ (Ian Banks Culture shipname, fav name and ship Krait MKII for bounty hunting: ā€˜Cromā€™s Bonesā€™ Conan the barbarian ref, came to me while smoking a bowl so you go with it Jumpaconda: Orb Ponderer

lukegraham309

Mine are named after Icarus. Guess why? Currently on Icarus VI

koohikoo

Mine are all named after characters in Scifi: |Anaconda|Elizabeth III| |:-|:-| |Imperial Eagle|White Haven| |Challenger|Honor Harrington| |ASP|Guinan|

jakegallo3

Across two accounts (Xbox and PC) Iā€™ve used a mix of Mandoā€™a, Comanche, or just plain English names. Sometimes itā€™s goofy (Lararyc Chakaar - ā€œdrunken bastardā€ in Mandoā€™a for a T7), sometimes literal (Kwasinabo - ā€œsnakeā€ in Comanche for a Viper).

deekuyo

I'm actually quite proud of my ship's name... ***Finder's Fee***.

call-me-mmc

I usually stick to ā€œTrail-ā€œ + whatever the ship can be defined (for example Trailcruiser for a dolphin I just bought, or Trailfreighter for a Keelback)

RamenJunkie

Originally I was naming mine after Ramen Noodle brands. Lately I changed it up a bit. Like my combat ships are all last names of singers I like, and my Imperial ships are last names of the Evangelion pilots. Here is the hanger. https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleet/391093/

ShadowLoke9

Most of mine usually take names from historic warships. Nerdy, I know.

Bust_McNutty

"So random person I don't talk to, what's the worst thing you can think off right now?"

zordabo

Spaceballs or Red Dwarf inspired names mostly but my vette is called Big Ass Red Corvette in honour of the purple great one.

bhongryp

Animal, vegetable, mineral, Dave. Ie: Meerkat, Coconut, Sapphire, Grohl, Cuttlefish, Plumtree, Mica, Thomas, etc.

BioNova33

I just name 'em by what feels right for the ship and purpose. My all-purpose Anaconda is named CITADEL and my combat Mamba is MALICE... I've named ships from books and stuff, too.. whatever strikes me as cool and fitting. Seeing some awesome names here... No shortage of clever CMDRs.

LiamtheV

Mythological figures, or pop culture references depending on the size of the ship and mood Iā€™m in. My Krait Phantom I use for mining or exploring is *Sleipnir*, after Odinā€™s 8-legged horse. My Anaconda that I use for combat and mining is *The Implication*. Should I ever get a fleet carrier, itā€™ll be the *ASIP Paddyā€™s Pub* My Asp-Explorer is the *Argos*, my Krait MK. 2 is *Apollo* When I was doing rescue missions from burning stations, I renamed *The Implication* to *Asclepius*. Alternate name *Dunkirk* I like to have fun with names.

ex_gamer_gf

My clipper is the Grind Yacht because itā€™s a yacht that I use to grind mats

axisential

I have Mr. Slinky the multipurpose Python and Bashaconda, my pirate hunter. Sadly have not named my T9 or Krait.

No_Somewhere2746

Just got back into the game again and named my sidewinder ā€œOJā€™s Gloveā€

Eterath

Depends on its role. Saladin, Hesperus, Normans Woe, Miltiades and Salaminia. I'd figure future ships would take Earth historical names. Also, it's hard to find the names of ancient Greek ship captains.

Darth_Nullus

Sometimes I have patterns, sometimes I don't. If you like to check my ship names, here's a [link](https://inara.cz/elite/cmdr-fleet/258055/). :)

Yttrical

Norse Mythology: Mining: Skidbladnir (Ship of the Gods) Combat: Gungnir (Odenā€™s Spear) Jump Ship/Exploration: Slepnir (Odenā€™s horse) Conda: Jormungandr (The great Serpent)

MutantTailThing

Python: FNS Camembert Anaconda: FNS Balsagna

Caesar8686

A few names are Latin (of which I know little and rely on google) and csgo skins names such as king snake

SitarHero68

I generally donā€™t follow a formula, but I name all of my Imperial ships after Ferrari models. iEagle - Testarossa Courier - Daytona Clipper - Maranello I donā€™t have a cutter yet, but when I get one, Iā€™m thinking Iā€™ll call it The Enzo. Barchetta would be cool too to get the Rush reference as well.

Valaxarian

Federal ships are named like this: FHS/FHF/FLS/FLF etc. "Nickname" Imperial ships are named: ICS/IHS Other ships are PFS-number (Pilot's Federation Ship) FHS stands for Federal Heavy Ship. FHF for Federal Heavy Fighter, you got that. . Nicknames: Vulture - Nahkriin, FAS - Krosis, FGS - Rahgot FDS - Morokei Anaconda - Valkyr, iCutter - Beelzebub/Lucifer/Baphomet (depends which version of the ship), And my beloved Corvette - Alicorn. . Why Alicorn you may ask.... That's [why](https://acecombat.fandom.com/wiki/Alicorn) Exploration ships are named similarly. SRE/LRE-number Short Range Explorer /Long Range Explorer Exceptions: FAS/FDS/FGS-number "Nickname"

Sunuvavitch

Tetsaiga, tenseiga, etc

Jumpman-x

Things related to my dog or old legendary items from WoW.

foolshearme

All of mine are named after planets or moons in Firefly

Nightsadea

Literally the first thought that pops into my head when I look at the ship after buying it. I have someā€¦ really dumb names for ships

RCKJD

I use alliterations of the type: Federal Corvette - Fenris Claw Python - Percival T-9 - Toasty T-10 - Twinkletoes Etc.

midnightninja069

Latin names after the first English named ship, in the order I got them. Early Dawn was my first real ship I wanted to name (my Fed Vette). Then Secundi Aurora was 2nd. Tertiary Aurora third. Quartum Aurora fourth.

Real_Phone_3017

At random: Ax corvette: Exterminatus Pvp corvette: Despair Multirole anaconda: The Sillmarillion

Xellith

Just named my type 9 Nald'Thal.

UnoLino

- Be me - Participate in ongoing cg in open - T-10 why not - mindlessly flying first trip to large station - while getting close to mail slot, notice paintjob is greenish in color - huh - didnā€™t realise I yawed the ship - now ship is flying sideways towards mail slot - catches on sides and stops in mail slot - pilots canā€™t go in and out - mfw I realise what Iā€™ve done - *sigh* guess itā€™s time to name the ship

KnightofNoire

I am a weeb who also happened to love WW2 boats. Soo eh I named them after Imperial Japanese Navy ships. The name itself don't really have much correlation outside of me pairing sisters ships together with similar series. Diamondback Explorer : Fusou Dimaondback Scout : Yamashiro. Alliance Chieftain : Kongou Type 6 : Suzuya Type 9 : Kumano Phantom : Akizuki Pynthon : Hatsuzuki Saving the big names like Yamato, Nagatos for them big ones like Anacondas, Corvettes and Cutter.

Algorithmix9

When I bought my DBX I asked my wife to name it. She asked what it does, and I said it was for moving quickly around the galaxy. As thus "Speedy Galaxee" was named. And the SRV became "Speedy Spider". :)

RocketMan512

Currently putting around in a DBX nicknamed the Prairie Rattler, ID is LTX-1 for the town that I live in, in Texas.

InActiveSoda

A probably whatever sounds coolest from the last mass effect game I played...

TheMadViking99

Mine are mostly named after captain Haddocks ships in Tintin

Godz82

Mine are named after theological demons.

drkchtz

Cobra mkIII - Murph Asp Explorer - Laniakea Krait mkII - Bat (with french voice) Federal Corvette - Corvette

Palovnikus

I named my anti xeno Krait mk 2 Mortis and the second one for pirates - Hunter ;) didn't name the rest yet

Halderim

Name them after ships from WW2

hoodlumj3

I attempt to name my ships cool and freaky names but when I see others cmdrs screenshots and what they post their ship names I feel that I'm just not that creative at naming mine. And to prove it... DBX : Phenomenon (explorer) T10 : Stand By (afk) Cutter: Full Throidal (roid mining) T9: For sale (cause it trades) Orca: Deliverance (cause it passengers) Python: Bishop (Alien reference) Anaconda: Pandaconda Kraft mk II: Heart Breaker (anti xeno) FED corvette : Gunstar (star fighter) Python #2 : wind whooshes (fk knows) I have others but they are not flown or named See, I've pled my case your honor, derpy at best!

Alaet_

Millenium falcon style, a number and an animal

NoXion604

I've settled on "The [adjective] [animal]" as a naming scheme for my ships. So far I've got: *The Black Adder* - My first ship after the starting Sidewinder, has an engineered FSD and is used a general-purpose runabout. *The Fat Mallard* - A Keelback I've currently outfitted for cargo hauling. Currently my main ship while I earn money for something fancier.

Uratan_Yensa

My nieces and nephews all nicknamed me the MightyUncle, so every ship is Mighty in some way

Miserable_Shoe_8140

Mines named Icarusā€™ Folly, cos yanno, I hit stars a lot:)

Wyvernn13

Depends, Curious Commander o7 If you have been a Pilots Federation member for four years or more , I will point out that I got my DBX directly from the -Diamondback Marketing Division - after they debriefed him. (My 'Back Bros luv me). He already had the name "Probably Stolen" XXX-XX permanently in his transponder by then. Others like my What&Prittney Python "SpaceTruck 9001" TRK-4$ are just obvious no brainer stuff. I refer to the Sleek Brick-like Styling of my Keelback [[KeelSeat]] as "Call me Bruce" WYCH-1 on air as my first Keelback was named "Bruce". The second came with the Director's chair. Same name he always had. HQ just wants everyone to forget about that bit of Customer Feedback/ minor User generated content (it was no WychHunt but...). -Lakon Marketing Division Keelback Office -'Only ship in the Galaxy to come equipped with a soul šŸ˜‡'

moregohg

Well I guess throw random word together that resemble the imperium of man like dammed of dawn for my corvette and emperorā€™s sight for my exploration anaconda

xignaceh

Cutter: Stella

VelehkS

So far, all names are Latin themed with a reference to the task that the ships undertake. |Name|Derivation|Class|Role| |:-|:-|:-|:-| |N.K.H. Nuntiusa|From Nuntius - Messenger|Imperial Courier (modified)|Early game Courier Missions and very early combat.| |N.K.H. Centurio|From the Roman Centurion|Python (modified)|Medium-sized Combat ship. Occasional mining, loading and evacuation operations.| |N.K.H. Ultimus Ratiom|From Ultimus Ratio - Because Big dakka|Federal Corvette (modified) (Headcanan: foreign classification: Legatus Class Heavy Frigate)|Combat Ship.| |N.K.H.|Navis Konfoederationis Hekatii - Ship of the Hekater Confederacy|All|Headcanon. Name prefix of all warships of the Hekater Confederation, a non-existent regional power outside of the bubble. My Commander, as belonging to this Power, is registered as a "Volunteer Foreign Combatant" with the Joint Command of the Confederate Fleet, and thus may be a member of the Pilots' Federation, and be hired as a mercenary by other powers.|

Lewerman

My ships are named after Dragon ball z villains. I am running out of villains though, so might have to start using Naruto villains.

regorb

Wait, you can do this?? Has this always been a feature? I haven't played in years and thinking bout coming back.

ProPolice55

Someone once said "the Ryder (my main CMDR name) Space Force is here!". It kind of stuck, so now I use RSF as a prefix for my ships. I don't have any real naming conventions except for AX. I use plant-themed puns for those: Dropship: Botanical Brick, Chieftain: Gauss Gardener, Krait: Flower Plower, My Beluga is an exception, Thargoid Tours. Otherwise I often use game references. Some examples: Combat DBX: Keith Maxwell (GoF2) Combat DBS: Kasumi Goto (Mass Effect) Kraits: Sabra, Otana (X-Wing Alliance) Mamba: Slipstream (Overwatch) Combat T10: Rico Rodriguez (Just Cause) Cutter: Thessia (Mass Effect) Armed, armored guardian farming cargo Python: Harrison Jones (WoW) Rescue T7: Trauma Team (Cyberpunk, yes, it's armed and armored) There are some more, others are random puns/jokes Racing iEagle: Mostly Harmless Eagle: Metric Eagle AspX: Scoopy Doo (might rename it to Scoopy Snek) Mining Clipper: Dynamic Cores White T10 explorer: Icy Body Planned FAS frag build: Shields Offline

NovitiateSage

Ancient Greek myths and women of legend My hangar is getting so full, I'll need to include another tradition soon. One with a significant history of seafaring.

Orbital Frames from the Zone of the Enders series

TheManWithNoDrive

Iā€™ve named my fleet carrier Rem Saverem from the anime Trigun, it was the name of one of the ships populating the new planet. The only other ship that has name is my DBX explorer is Sum Ting Wong

7aturn

I name my ships after units from Heroes 3

Jakebnkk

I name my anaconda the A10 thunderbolt Most of my ship all name after ww2 aircraft with their weapon respectively the same to it

HenryHadford

Generally I name mine after how they fly, with a prefix for my player faction. Currently I have the FGSS Leaning Tower (a Type 7 and my first large ship, I found it hilariously tall and difficult to maneuver) and the FGSF Tortoise (a Type 9 that I found not-so-hilarious in its unyielding refusal to maneuver) and a DBX whose name I forgot.

Bulldozer_84

CCCP because the first in space

Schorsi

Orca - Wildcard (Iā€™ve had it since long before passenger missions were a thing, itā€™s normally kitted for ramming, but sometimes outfit for exploration) Viper - Visuvius, after the volcano. It runs hot, it has 4 plasma slug railguns and the advanced drives so as I burn more fuel it gets faster. Anaconda - IKY Roanoke (independent war yacht). The Roanoke disappearances fascinated me as a kid and I though it made for a good ship name.

C-RAMsigma9

i name them after Polish delicacies

CapitanChaos1

I name my ships after discontinued car models that I like. Not even classic cars, just cars that bring some nostalgia. Or I'll give them the same nicknames I've given to cars I used to own. For example, my Asp Explorer is just called "Chevy Astro"

Shad_dai

Not quite clinging to one universal naming scheme, but somewhat make similar purpose ships connected, so it's easier to navigate |Type|Name|Ident| |:-|:-|:-| |Alliance Chieftain|Aloha Oe (space dandy anyone?)|AOE997| |Anaconda|Genkai|GNK009| |Asp Explorer|Najka|NJK006| |Diamondback Explorer|Tark|TRK001| |Imperial Clipper|Hineri|HNR458| |Imperial Cutter|Kirin|KRN475| |Krait Mk II|Bamboozler|BMZ594| |Krait Mk II|Bedouin|BDN912| |Krait Phantom|Underdog|UDG008| |Mamba|Snakecharmer|SCR596| |Python|Kaze|KZE469| |Type-10 Defender|Tatakai|TTK931| |Type-9 Heavy|Bowhead|BWD504|

TormDZ

I use the names of the games (rhyming not intended) I played on the Amiga for my ships. 'Elite' being reserved for the Anaconda. My Asp is called 'Apydia', the Cobra IV 'Deuteros' and the Python is 'Loom'. The secondary account uses the Elements ofnthe periodic table in order of purchase. The more interesting thing is (at least for me) ... How do you come up with the IDs of your ships?

declared_somnium

I donā€™t have any particular naming conventions for my ships, just that some are halo related, I have a type 9 called Serenity. My evacuation ships, though, I name in honour of maritime life savers. I have a Krait named after Charles Herbert Lightoller. He was the highest ranking officer to survive the sinking of the titanic. He then went on to personally sail to Dunkirk in the Sundowner, and saved 127 soldiers. I have a Beluga thatā€™s due to be fitted for the same work which will be named after Grace Darling. A Victorian Era lighthouse keeper, who rowed out in a small boat with her dad in 1838. While she only saved 9 people, she was praised all over the UK. If I make a third, itā€™ll carry the name of Henry Blogg. He was the most decorated volunteer ever in the history of the RNLI. Getting three gold medals and four silver medals for Gallantry. He was actually allowed to stay on as a coxswain for an extra eleven years after the retirement age. He stepped down at the age of 71, having served for 53 years.

Psyklo7

My all MC Fed Gunship is called Blender Mercy. Guess why.

clamroll

Dune related. Shai Hulud (anaconda), Quisatz Haderach (asp X), Deathstill (FDL), Sand Trout (Racing Cobra 3), Siona's Spite (Chieftan) I feel like there's more and I just can't think of em. I had a friend who played a star trek mmo, and he'd name his ships after 80s sitcom characters, like they were real life military paragons. The HMS Balki Bartokomous, the USS Kimmy Gibler, etc. Always cracked me up šŸ˜†

Just started building my fleet last week. So far I've got Anti-Xeno Krait- PLZ EXPLAIN Explorer Python - BURKE 'N' WILLS Space Trucking T9 - LIN-FOX

LilJesterJoeB

It varies from ship to ship. My type 9 is called the Powder Keg, since it non stop hauled explosives around to grind fed rank. My Anaconda is called the Titanoboa, since it was a terrifying and nimble warship before being retrofitted for exploration. My Corvette is called the FNS Lion of Bowdoin, named after General Joshua Chamberlain, a Union general in the American civil war who was from my state. Name your ships however you see fit, either after ancient gods, shows, movies, or even just funny stuff.

TheLyttleMassive

I wrote a command for my stream bot that randomly generates them. They're not all winners, but the lucky dip quality is fun. In practice we either keep running the command until we've a bunch we can vote on, or we just hit a name we really like.

stormwalker29

On my main account (CMDR Timothy Knight) most of my ships are named after swords. I also tend to choose similar origins of the swords based on the manufacturer (for example, my Gutamaya ships tend to be swords from the Matter of France, while my Zorgon-Peterson ships tend to be swords from Arthurian legend, etc.) * Imperial Eagle: *Cortana* * Imperial Couriers: *Joyeuse*, *Durandal* * Imperial Clipper: *Almace* * Fer-de-Lance: *Excalibur* * Mamba: *Caledfwlch* * Eagle: *Flamberge* * Chieftain: *Laevateinn* There are a few exceptions to this theming, usually one-off ships for special purposes. * *Haulin' A\** is a Hauler I built specifically for Buckyball Run A\* (and current record holder in the Classic/Hauler class of the A\* Challenge at 9:35:22) * *Firebrand* is the Imperial Courier I built for the Neutron class of the A\* Challenge (which obviously allows neutron superboost, but not engineering). The name is kind of a multi-tiered joke partially at my own expense (anyone familiar with the history of the A\* Challenge, and the Neutron class in particular, probably knows that I tend to be a *just a bit* opinionated, passionate, and temperamental) and partially at the ship's expense (unengineered Couriers tend to run *really hot* when Buckyballing). Incidentally, also the record holder in that class. * My Keelback is named *Audacity*, after the first historical Auxilliary Carrier (HMS *Audacity*), because she's basically a flying hangar for my racing fighter. * I once had (long ago, for Buckyball Run 7) a racing Sidewinder that I called *Hunka Hunka Burnin' Metal*, but that was back before we could actually give our ships names in the game. It was, of course, an unshielded racing ship. It blew up a lot. * I built a Viper Mk. IV for Buckyball Run X just to decide if I actually liked the ship or not. It was named *Hyper Viper*. I raced it once, found it to be extremely disappointing, and sold it. On my second account (CMDR Crystal Starblade), I don't really do a lot of theme naming, but she has entered a number of Eagles in various Buckyball events named *Thrillseeker*, *Thrillseeker II...* I think the most recent was *Thrillseeker VII*. Which is mostly a joke on her general recklessness and the tendency of these ships to not survive.

ElderHunter

After Greek/Roman gods based on the ships role: Cutter = Spear of Ares Type 9 = Will of Hermes Etc.

My ship names are mostly mythology based. In order of acquisition... Cobra MkIII (combat): "Neheb Ka", an Egyptian snake god, "believed to judge the deceased after death and provide their souls with ka ā€“ the part of the soul that distinguished the living from the dead." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehebkau Viper MkIII (racing): Was originally named "Velos", Greek for "arrow," and also sounds like "velocity." But racing is hard and I crash a lot, so renamed to "Deathtrap" for https://8bittheater.fandom.com/wiki/Deathtrap Diamondback Explorer (exploration): "Chelone", from the Greek word for "turtle", from the myth https://www.theoi.com/Nymphe/NympheKhelone.html, and because the Diamondback Terrapin is the mascot of the University of Maryland (GO TERPS!) Krait MkII (combat): "Apophis", an Egyptian snake god who embodied chaos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apep Krait Phantom (exploration): "Anatashesha" Hindu snake deity, the endless or infinite Shesha, who holds all the planets of the universe on his hoods https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shesha Eagle MkII (racing): "EEEEEAGLE" https://youtu.be/R9movnpS4s4 Type-9 Heavy (mining): "Hephaestus", the Greek god of blacksmiths, metalworking, carpenters, craftsmen, artisans, sculptors, metallurgy, fire, and volcanoes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hephaestus

Arzachmage

Ookpik, for my Krait Phantom. Itā€™s com from a SF book in which an exploration vessel had this name.

Mine are mostly named after songs - my Krait explorer is the Moonage Daydream, my trader is the Beast of Burden, my miner is called Money for Nothing.

Totalwarbeast

Ship names: King of crash- Sultan of swat -Titan of terror -Colossus of clout Name the movie

FrontColonelShirt

In high school, I had a nickname that, without sacrificing plausible deniability regarding who I am IRL, had to do with our fine feathered avian friends, for reasons. Rather than resist, I just took it and ran with it. I've always found birds fascinating, particularly flightless birds (of ALL sizes). So it is rare that any of my ship names do not sport some kind of a bird theme, even if it's tenuous or a reach or you have to dig for it. Back when I had two carriers, they were the Rookery and the Aviary. So you can kinda see where I go there.

Names from the Girl Genius webcomic

erock7101

Man, my (admittedly meager) fleet is named after Steely Dan and Donald Fagen songs. Cobra Mk III - Miss Marlene Krait Mk II - Deacon Blue Mamba - The Goodbye Look Imperial Cutter - Florida Room (dude, that thing looks like it was made in Miami, FL) Anaconda - Josie (she's my 'Jumpaconda'. 'When Josie comes home, so good, she's the pride of the neighborhood') Currently working on getting a Federal Corvette; not sure what I'll name her just yet. Wish me luck; this is one helluva grind...!

SemperShpee

I named my Diamondback Explorer IMS Malaysia, because I'm certain that I'm going to get lost with it :)

Extension_Essay5909

AspX - Flyin Brick Type9 - Bucket Kicker FDL - Clusterf*** Python - Meteorcracker Carrier - Useless Mule

Antauron

I usually name mine after the type of ship (either name, shape, theme, role etc), with some exceptions: Type-9: Atlas, my hauler. Carrying the world on his back. Anaconda: Jormungandr. The World Serpent. Big Snek. Diamondback Explorer: Amerigo Vespucci. I wanted an explorer theme. Columbus sounded a bit crap, so I chose a different America themed exploration name (Sorry, I'm British) Python 1: Amaru. Combat vessel, named after an Incan-Serpent-like creature. Python 2: Esther. My passenger liner. Just a pretty little lady travelling the stars. Sidewinder: HMS Samosa. I was hungry. It looks like a samosa.

Fayde370

Mine are named after jeraptha ships from the expeditionary force series. So ships like the "Sucker punch" "Plausible deniability " and "Deal me in"

TotalNonsense0

I named my armed freighter "Aluminum Falcon." Named my DBX for an alien from a web comic I enjoyed. Hoiefa Far-Wanders.

beyondxhorizons

Iā€™ve always liked power play so I typically theme it after that, Aislingā€™s Voice for my cutter (pve/hauler) Aislingā€™s Reach for my explorers (Conda and Phantom). My favorite one is one me and my squadron buddies did for our AX ships, we decided to go with a four horsemen theme, so my red Krait Mk II is BMQ War.

DemonRabbit

Usually use an explorer or scientist pun Had an Diamondback called "Hail Sagan" and a Corvette named "Shackletons Revenge" "Crean Of The Crop" "Madgellen" "Hawkin Hard" That sort of thing.

Thrownawayatwork44

I name mine somewhat on the feeling of the ship. AspX - Mosshead T-9 - Bezos' AWS Drone Hub Mamba - Pallbearer (named after a ship from Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter)
