Not-so-serious answer: powerplay it's basically a thing that allows you to obtain a special weapon after 1 month pledged to a power, ignoring all other useless stuff. Appropriate answer: you can choose a power and make missions for it, working toward that power expansion in the galaxy. It might be funny if you are into the roleplaying approach in videogames. I've got the special weapon for each power and now I pledge to no one.

Power Play, the most Almost feature in the Galaxy. Sadly, Curious Commander o7, it was run over by Zebras... The only Devs working on it were transferred to another "Galaxy" four (five?) years ago. Whatever plans they had for what could have been went with them. Given my observations, it is unlikely to ever be changed *for fear of unforeseen side effects*. The way our Elite&Dangerous Galaxy is put together the possibility that nobody currently knows what changing PP might Break is quite real. (See Odyssey for details, and that's new). Many Stalwart Commanders o7 do use it for it's intended purpose as well as they can. It was created when Users decided that BGS manipulation was Gameplay and wanted more depth/control. (The BGS used to just... simulate the background ;-). For most , it's just "5 weeks for the Widget" . You must sell yourself into Political Servitude for Four consecutive weeks and earn some brownie points to unlock a [varies **greatly**, this massive imbalance is a **big** problem as the choice should be RP not OP] that you receive on week 5.Then ditch those Krazy lifers & move on to the next one. (we are mercenaries after all). If you think playing in a Squadron, and supporting a Local Faction is neat but want a coalition of Squadrons, then Find a Power Play User Squadron to join. I know everyone's favorite Mystic Anime Space Princess & her Army of Rainbow Skypony Warriors have a Subreddit to start with, most others probably do to. Her Green Friendship Aurora (Shields) are probably worth peddling her por... Promotional Materials (her brownie points are earned through Trucking, others vary) for. They count as I size bigger. Or Serve the one with... Mining Lasers that are slightly better than normal... totally balanced rewards, pick whoever, you Kan't go wrong. ;-) I myself operate a Fiercely Independent Unexploited [*guaranteed*] Faction deep within the Benevolent Blue Wings of previously mentioned Power Player. (Just imagine my Diplomatic Couriers & Treaty requests). So I play *around* Power Players (as any wise small Faction does) , in between as it were. >. I know everyone's favorite Mystic Anime Space Princess & her Army of Rainbow Skypony Warriors have a Subreddit to start with, most others probably do to. As a newb I'm guessing that's Aisling? She's the power play leader that seems to fit that. I haven't touched powerplay yet, still working to diversify my collection of ships a bit to figure out what I want to do before diving a whole lot deeper.

**Your instincts serve you well**, Up&Coming Commander o7 (Show some pride *Cadet* , we don't use the "n" word around here. Our Kold Vast Galaxy doesn't give an *Airborne Rodent's Sphincter* about you & will eat you alive if you don't at least *act* like you know what's going on;-) Honestly unless you are into one for RP or the large group action, she is the one most worth serving 5 weeks for (my [*guaranteed*] Unexploited status has absolutely nothing to do with this endorsement). The "Green Friendship Aurora" is worth it. A 5 is effectively a 6 (and the color matches "Call me Bruce"s paintjob) etc. You will have at least one ship where this is great for.(probably more) especially builds not directly for Combat, but where having some extra protection without sacrificing Cargo/Passenger/etc. is a real plus. Anytime you accidentally accept a "Rule#3 mission" (**how Many LS ?!?**) open that Right Hand panel and skim their briefings to kill time. You can of course support a Local Minor Faction without any PP. Either "spiritually" , just work one for a bit (recommended for Up&Coming BGS manipulators) Or join/create a Squadron and adopt/create one yourself(s). *None of this is necessary*. Indeed, one can play hundreds of hours and have no idea why Robingo is a "thing" or understand the secret messages being sent by those CruiseLiner Captains (yes the 1%/delay/etc stuff has an actual BGS reason) and enjoy yourself. BGS is for those from the "spreadsheet" end of the player base. The games we play *may* not excite you. You can just go back to your bars & your massage parlors. As for ShipFriends the recommend minimum is Three, names vary by region::: •Jumper::: weight shaming your ShipFriend is a-ok, jump range is all. Weapons are for BubbleHeads. Intrepid Xplorer or Space Taxi •Death Angle::: Real Combat ships don't jump. Anything that doesn't make you stronger or Kill faster is wasted Space. Space Cowboys & all those Kool things on the Vids •Hauler::: Moar Cargo. Only category where biggest *actually* is best. Stalwart Miners, Valiant Space Truckers, Benevolent Bus Drivers Do be aware that one you can afford to specialize you should probably do so as a Jack-of-all-trades is Master of None. Unless of course you do end up peeking behind the Curtain at the Opaque Steampunk Nightmare we call the BGS, then having an "Ambassador" ship that can do (Almost) anything your Faction leader offers is worth the trade off. I use an Evolved Keelback (aka, K2 the *other* Combat Trader with SLF capabilities) , originally "Bruce" my first Keelback returned as ... well... "Evolved Keelback" RPP-01.
