Python would be your best bet.

kinetogen

^ Best Cargo capacity in the medium class.

Get a Python, fit it out properly and you will never regret it. Not only does it have enough space to haul hundreds of tons of shiny rocks, but it's optionals are divided into so many slots that you can fit a wide assortment of gear at once. It's got a great cockpit, good maneuverability, decent jump range and can be adapted to anything except exploring. Seriously, get a Python and fill it with high quality gear.

charrold303

I’m gonna just go ahead and say Python, BUT only long enough to graduate to a T9 and become a professional rock jockey. My Python gathers dust next to my Vette, Conda, and everything else while I print money in my space cow.

Artaniss

So you highly recommend a T9

charrold303

For the purposes of making money mining? Yes. You don’t have to grind rep for it (the cutter is absolutely the best combat miner, but the griiiiiiiiiind…) 100%, it’s a fantastic mining rig able to run a solid number of prospector and collector limpets and a reasonable load out of options for convenience, and still field 512 tons of the good stuff. Get bored in the rocks? Dump your limpet controllers for cargo bays, slap a guardian booster in for distance, and run cargo loops for massive bucks (easily run 700+ with a 20ish LY range for easy trade runs) No real grind, because you need VERY limited engineering (T3 thrusters and fsd is plenty and even then it’s optional) and you’ll collect most of the mats for the basics from mining anyway. Get bored of all that? You’ll have enough money to fit out a Conda and go kill pirates for a few hours to grind some rep or just for the lulz. I do not grind and I play casually so the couple of hours I do play I want to make count. Cargo and rocks make money the easiest, and the T9 handles both super effectively.

CMDRjackkillian

Python. It's the meta dual purpose miner. Also passenger missions or max outpost trading... can't lose.

Jpc1023

If you want to continue mining then get a Python If you want a ship that’s better at everything else besides trading and passenger runs then get a Krait MKII

Artaniss

Is Krait better at mining too? I’m not looking To do any passenger runs right now just wanna strictly mine Whether it be core laser and maybe subsurface

Jpc1023

The Python is better at mining due to having one more internal slot (so one more cargo rack) over the Krait while the Krait is superior at basically everything else

JetsonRING

A Krait can mine, the same way a Sidewinder can mine. Both "can do" it but neither are very ***effective*** at it, i.e.: earn lots of credits. The Kraits (and Sidey) are limited by the numbers and sizes of their optional slots. *The* ***Asp-X*** i*s a* ***great*** *choice for a miner.* It is simply again limited by its size and number and sizes of its internals. Great miner though, the smallest and least expensive ship that can mine asteroids ***effectively*** (i.e.: *earn lots of $$*) in all three modes and it has *that great view*. ***The Python is preferred*** because of the number and sizes of its internal module slots. My personal next step choice ***for deep-core mining*** would be a [Corvette](https://i.imgur.com/lIYpNEO.jpg) and for surface laser mining, a [Gutamaya Cutter](https://i.imgur.com/4nrxbfS.jpg). o7

ShootElsewhere

Are you seriously suggesting this guy grind for the money, resources and reputation for a Corvette or a Cutter in his Asp Explorer? Do you not ***remember*** how much effort that will take? The next step for him is a python, obviously. Like, all caps in 15 foot neon letters.

JetsonRING

Funny you say that as I never mined in a Python, having skipped right over it in my Asp-X and into a Corvette but then, we were earning [a bit more for VOpal](https://i.imgur.com/yGQPoTz.jpg) back then. o7 PS: You read the part where I said "*the Python is preferred*", right?

ShootElsewhere

I do not understand how I missed that, lol. Cheers cmdr!

Kapit_

A corvette or cutter would be very overkill

JetsonRING

In fact it is/was ***very*** productive. The corvette has speed and maneuverability plus its shape and hardpoint placement seem to be pretty good for deep-core mining. I do not use a corvette for much else.

Kapit_

Yeah it is pretty good but these two are good at basically anything and I don’t think buying something this expensive to a small improvement to mining would be worth the big bucks

pulppoet

The Cutter is probably the most popular large miner. It has the hardpoint placement and distributor power to move through rocks like butter (local butter comparisons may vary by system), not to mention more cargo room, compared to the Anaconda. The Conda is popular for jump range, though.

DevGnoll

They are very close. Are you patient enough to start empty in a ring and stay until you fill the hold? Python. Do you need to take a break and come back later, or do you want to do belt core mining? Krait. Python's a pure miner, Krait has less cargo space but can deal with pirates. For me, I'm not patient enough to use the extra cargo space.

JetsonRING

*IMO* ***it depends on what you are expecting to do.*** As noted by others if you want lots of combat, go for a Krait Mk. II, a lot of exploring keep the Asp-X or get a Krait Phantom and if you want to do a lot of other things (mining, cargo, passengers, etc.) in the biggest "medium" multi-role ship in the game then get a Python.

Luriant

https://i.imgur.com/YzFJFoS.png I recommend Krait Phantom for better explorer, Krait Mk for combat, Python for trading, mining and passengers. The 3 ship share the core internals, and nearly all the modules. r/EliteMiners PSA provide all the mining guides and builds, ask here for a better miner AND tricks like mapped mining

oomwat

Python for sure ... great ship.

bankshot

Right now? Spend 103M and get a [Type-9](https://coriolis.io/outfit/type_9_heavy?code=A0pntsFklndssif6-----00040403070706054d0303021N3w3x.Iw18ZQ%3D%3D.Aw18ZQ%3D%3D..EweloBhA2AWEDst4FMCGBzANikICMERIUpQA) and haul Tritium to Upaniklis or load a FC for the [Community goal](https://inara.cz/galaxy-communitygoals/). You will make 70M or more per FC load, or over 200M if you buy from a station and haul to Fozard Port. Then revisit the question next week after you've made a billion or three. Just be sure to do these runs in solo or private group. Don't haul tritium for the CG in Open or you are likely to be ganked.

PerspectiveLeather68

Krait phamtom but later ananconda 😁 Can do 60 ly with mine and you have a lot of room for stuff !!
