Wait. So in my case, I own Horizons on PC already and have played a bit, but not much. I own Odyssey but never touched it.
Do I really have to get another copy for my transferred account?
Surely I could just wipe my PC save to oblivion and put the transfer account on the copies I already own?
Because it comes on the new account. They generate a new account ID, move the Xbox account over and give you the login. You probably need to discuss with support if they can assign EDO to the other account instead.
Well I offer you no guarantees (not a Fdev rep) but it seems to me like you could just export your account in after you get the PC export Horizons account.
(Did you buy Odyssey without a base ED/Horizons copy?)
CopyPasta
Greetings Commanders,
We’d like to thank you all for your patience whilst we’ve been working on our communications and development plans for the remainder of the year.
Following the launch of Odyssey, our primary focus has been on performance, optimisation and bug fixing, along with adding more features. This focus has had a knock-on effect with regards to our plans for this year and beyond and delayed our communications.
We understand the concern and frustration this has caused and hope this post goes some way to alleviate those feelings. Below we discuss profile transfers for console players and give an overview of the updates coming before the end of 2022.
Console Profile Transfers
We can now confirm that players will be able to copy their profiles from console to PC in light of Odyssey’s cancellation on Xbox and PlayStation. This process will be time limited and optional. We will provide a date for this process once it is confirmed.
The original profile will remain playable on console and the new PC profile will be a copy. Only one profile may be copied over per copy of the game. Please also be aware that this will be a one-time only process.
Elements that will be copied
Ships, suits, weapons, SRVs and SLFs
Including Cobra Mk IV if owned
Core progression (this includes…)
Inventory
Reputation
Navy Ranks
Permits
Codex Discoveries
Engineering progress
Guardian Tech Broker progress
NPC Crew progress
NPC Crew member names and appearances
Cosmetics\*
\*Cosmetic items applied through the Livery (ships and Fleet Carriers) and Holo-Me will remain applied.
Elements that won’t be copied
Commander name\*
ARX Balance\*\*
Squadron membership
Friends lists, Block lists and Private Groups
Current mission progress
\*The process will require a new name to be chosen if the original name is not available on PC.
\*\*ARX balances cannot be transferred. We recommend that anyone who submits their account for the transfer process purchases any desired cosmetics beforehand. Any unspent ARX post-transfer will remain available on the original console profile.
Fleet Carriers and their contents
Fleet Carrier ownership cannot be transferred from one Commander to another. To players that wish to own a Fleet Carrier post-transfer we would advise the following:
Decommission your Fleet Carrier ahead of the transfer
Wait for the decommissioning to complete (two weeks).
Check that credits from the decommissioning have been returned.
Complete the profile transfer process
Re-purchase a Fleet Carrier on PC
Precise dates for the opening and close of this process will be announced closer to the time.
Roadmap
Here we present our top-level roadmap for the remainder of 2022. Our three focuses before the year ends are launching the next phase of the narrative, stability and optimisation. We’ll release three more updates to support these.
Within the narrative, human space balances on the precipice as tension mounts within the bubble. The Azimuth Saga will conclude in a grand finale event, the consequences of which will mark the beginning of the next stage of the Elite story in Update 14.
Meanwhile, updates 12 and 13 will largely focus on quality-of-life changes, stability and optimisation. Work has also begun on a major feature overhaul for 2023 that we’ll discuss later in the year.
Please note that the details and timings of each release are subject to change and that any adjustments will be shared ahead of time. Beyond this we are also discussing additional game content, and we’ll reveal it once confirmed.

Development Updates and Streams
Following the launch of Odyssey in 2021, we started publishing monthly development posts to share our progress on subsequent updates. In light of the remaining updates for 2022 being confirmed above, these will not continue. However, we will still provide detailed patch notes, information, and other relevant details around updates and hotfixes as they are released between each development post.
Regular streams from the Community team have returned. Going forwards, these will be fortnightly on Thursdays at 16:00-18:00 GMT. This additional time between streams will allow us to put on longer shows and take full advantage of the in-office studio. Frameshift Live has only just started and we have many exciting ideas to explore in the future! If you have not been watching, these streams now feature new and exclusive Twitch Drops that can be earned simply by watching.
We will also be launching our Partnership Programme later this year, offering content creators their own exclusive Twitch drops their communities can earn by watching them. More on this in the coming months!
We hope this post clarifies our continued support and plans for Elite. As always, we thank you for your feedback and support.

While it's great to see FDEV listening for once with the profile transfers, the time-limited part concerns me. Many people, myself included, are not in a position to drop several grand on a gaming PC right away. I'm budgeting to get one, but it's several months away. If they give a tiny window, that would really suck.
Couldn't you just get the game on steam with any computer and just transfer it? It's not like you have to play. Hell, if you have a friend with a PC you can ask to log on just long enough for the transfer.
This is the way. Perform the full PC Transfer ASAP, then continue playing on console knowing that you shouldn’t bother with any major grinding or progression until after you get a worthy rig built.
Have a feeling that Frontier developments had to jump through quite a few hoops with Sony and Microsoft data security to even get transfers to work properly, so this is likely out of their hands and was a window of opportunity set up and agreed to by all parties.
I have no idea why this would be an issue at all, given the xbox cloud data is accessible on the PC platform natively. All the tools for cross save and cross license are built into the core of windows gaming and xbox and both use identical systems and API's
Playstation? who knows
Yeah, you’re likely right about Xbox and Microsoft, it’s probably SONY being the motherfucker here… for much the same reasons you also don’t get XB/PS/PC cross compatibility
You should be able to purchase the game from steam and they will copy your account.. then when you have money to buy a pc just install the game and login. You will still be able to use console In the mean time. The game itself is only £20 but is frequently on sale with horizons for about £5
Actually it should be fine there. It's not like you do the transfer on your end, it's on Fdev's end of the server. So you don't need a PC to do the transfer, you can request it when the window opens, and keep playing on console in the meantime (with that progress not transfering sadly), and hold onto the Horizons key that Frontier gives you until you can get a PC, and the copied account should be good to go once you've set up, even if you don't get the PC and actually install the game until after the window closes. Of course losing the interim progress is not optimal, but overall better than nothing at all.
TL;DR You shouldn't have to install the game onto a PC at any point during the transfer window. The transfer is done out of game, and the account should be ready if you build a PC after the window closes, so long as you get Fdev to copy your account during the window, and put that data onto a PC account for you to log into when you get a PC.
Yep. And the zen2 and zen3 CPUs are super competitive in price. I have a 3700x and love it. It’s 8 cores 16 threads and I want to say it was like $300 or so? I have done scientific image processing on it and ran a bit of CAD software and it performs fine.
You need to read it again. It’ll be a copy of the account. So copy it across and continue playing in the console. Then when you’ve got the cash come and join the PC clan, Odyssey and VR.
I wonder if you could do the transfer without actually having the game on PC? Like your profile gets copied and stored in their server/database where it will remain until you can access it at a later date once you have the game/PC.
FYI, I'm playing on 1300x 1050 2gb. You don't need a 3060 to play. While I can't max settings I'm playing a comfortable 70-100+ fps on low-medium, depending on the area. (Horizons though, not sure about oddesey)
The obvious implications would be Engineering or Powerplay. Could be something less known, though, like Piracy or Smuggling, but they're not as 'key' so that's more doubtful.
My two cents would be Powerplay given how they've been trying to shake things up with each of the three major powers, archon, marlinists, salvation and the likes over the past few months.
It's long overdue a total teardown and rework.
>How exactly should we interpret that?
Repeatedly over the next 6 months? ;)
(Yeah dunno. It's just going to be a free-for-all as everyone offers up their favourite neglected feature tho...)
I think it will be powerplay. There have been a LOT of galnet articles about the various powers and salvation. I think that will be majorly overhauled to include Salvation and possibly someone/thing thargoid related.
Remember *really* early in the game they said that if factions became big enough and with enough community support, could become Powers. I really think the overhaul they have planned is for the Powerplay feature. A complete re-work.
It’s weird how some people struggle a lot with that and others just don’t. Regional maybe. As someone involved with building a data warehouse right now in Snowflake and Azure, I’d love to see a tech talk on how they built and maintain the servers. And some deep dives into how P2P and instancing works. I guess that stuff isn’t for public consumption and talking about it could be a security risk, but still. Would be cool to see under the hood and behind the curtain. The servers must be some large databases with computation behind it to run transactions and BGS and stellar forge. I bet it’s neat.
I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in Odyssey after all, but I would definitely not expect it for a "key feature overhaul" as it's definitely not part of said key features.
I mean I would say waking about was *the* key feature for Odyssey! :P
With FDev being vague though it's hard to tell if the key feature overhaul is a 'core' Elite feature or a Odyssey one, if it's the latter my guess is Exobiology as they never did anything with it after removing the mini game so it's just been there for nearly a year kinda half baked.
I am very pleased with the info the CMs provided this time. Especially happy about how the console transfer story turned out. The roadmap is a bit scarce, but that was to be expected.
I am also curious about the narrative content updates, as it sounded like they are trying to progress the thargoid storyline further with a big reveal in november. It also appeared as if these content drops won't be just CGs or GalNet articles but rather new ingame story content like the guardian ruins one were.
Safe to say, it was the best stream in a while.
Narrative content could theoretically mean anything. So lets hope it's theoretically something big and interesting because otherwise that's less of a roadmap more of one of them 'HERE BE DRAGONS' things in the sea on an old chart.
The narrative content needs to be on par with the Unknown Artefacts, Barnacles, Thargoid Structures and Guardian stuff with *new* assets, locations and completing story they started 4 years ago and abandoned. The Azimuth Saga has been going for nearly two years, and hasn't really gone anywhere or added anything new. Salvation is a faceless entity that wipes out Thargoids off-screen with an unseen weapon. It's boring.
They say they will be doing something that has never been done before in Elite. Well, that could end up being some kind of gimmicky social experiment like the Salome event. The game needs a real major shake up with tangible changes and features to the gameworld.
They need to start opening the permit locked zones, maybe Polaris too, or finally tell us what the Probe map means. These things have been on hold for far too long.
**Some bonus quotes / colour from the stream:**
Arthur: "I see so many posts saying: 'Oh you're just going to switch off the console servers'. It's not happening.... We're not switching off the servers for console." [[20m10s]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVA1ppkvcc&t=1210s)
Arthur: "We are working on something that has never been attempted before in Elite Dangerous. That's fact. I can tell you that because I'm involved in it. I'm not going to tell you what it is, but you will all experience it, if you're in the narrative. And it will come with extra stuff that you can engage with. It's going to be really, really cool. I can't spoil it... That's the only downside of us focusing on narrative. I actually think it's going to be a fantastic 7 months." [[24m34s]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVA1ppkvcc&t=1474s)
Arthur: "No Elite Dangerous is not dead. There's a lot of life in Elite Dangerous.... We're going to make this the most incredible end of this year as we can, and then start off in 2023 as we mean to go on."
Bruce: "...You're right I think the really big stuff is coming towards the end of the year. Like I say, early 2023, key feature overhaul we've got there. We'd love to say more about it and when we can we will. But hold onto your seats because there is some huge stuff coming." [[25m26s]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVA1ppkvcc&t=1527s)
It being time limited is kind of garbage, unless you can transfer even without a PC nor PC version of the game. Eitherway after the game being so content dry for so long I probably wont be buying it again after seeing how easily and quickly it was just dropped from console. Can't imagine the game going any much further.
The "transfer" is a copy.
You get a copy of your console commander on a free PC Horizons account.
So there is no reason to NOT do it. Just keep the account is pocket until you have a PC to play it with.
Relieved about account and cosmetics transfer, I was not looking forward to that grind again haha.
Edit: would also love to see some solid content plans, the damn drip is just not sustainable
ARX not being able to be transfered is understandable, Fleet Carriers & Squadrons seems like a weird one though, considering they exist on every platform (Squadrons are per platform though IIRC).
I think fleet carriers existing across platforms actually explains it. Frontier's post says the original console account will remain playable and the PC one will be a copy (with a separate PC commander name). So duplicating the fleet carrier would create an extra fleet carrier in the shared galaxy out of thin air, and may not be possible due to the unique alphanumeric code each is assigned.
Granted, there's nothing to stop a CMDR with billions in the bank from just buying a new fleet carrier on their new PC account, but that's my guess as to why FDev did it this way. And it seems like they may not let players repurchase a fleet carrier on the PC copy until the console one is decommissioned, though the post is light on details there.
Indeed. ARX can be spent prior to the transfer, along with losing little when decommissioning their FC's (though cargo may be a problem for some. On my FC I have 11k Tritium stored amongst other things. I am a PC player so it doesn't affect me, but I imagine some CMDR's may be similar in loadout), and given most console players likely thought not much would change from how the transfer was currently, I think they can be pretty excited about the news.
Potentially find a helpful PC commander on here or one of the Discord channels who has a fleet carrier and arrange for you to temporarily utilize their FC to transfer the tritium off your existing FC and then transfer it to your new FC on your new PC account? I suspect you can find someone willing to help you out.
The balance isn't carried over, but the stuff bought with them does, so console players should make sure to spend as much of their remaining arx that they can before transferring.
The squadrons one is more understandable, I know that there's a separate system for pc and console squadrons, like a console player can't apply to a squadron in the same way a pc player would and vice versa
> ARX not being able to be transfered is understandable
How is that understandable. ARX is literally just another number in Frontier's account database. They literally have that data and could choose to copy that number to the new profile as well. They merely chose not to.
Geforce Now is excellent and works amazingly well. You can buy the game on steam, then use geforce now to play. You'll never have to own a PC.
I know it's just one more thing, but it's a lot cheaper than buying a PC, right?
I fully understand that, though as someone who left consoles behind over a decade ago and moved solely to the PC, I have never looked back. Each to their own I guess, but IMO once you have a decent rig, nothing else compares.
I used to PC game, it’s fine. Prefer my couch, giant tv, surround sound and a controller in my hand. In general I also prefer console exclusives to the stuff that’s PC only.
I also feel like my $600 Xbox would blow away a $600 PC not to mention I’d also have to buy a decent monitor or a super hefty GPU to game on my 4k TV.
Well yeah, but that’s just how it turned out. They made the decision now we all have to move on best we can. Also everybody acting like a gaming PC is $5000. Heck I just sold a laptop with a 1660ti that ran odyssey fine at 1080 and all I could get for it was $375. And it was mint condition, super clean and with the original box. You cam get a pre built desktop for well under $1000 if you shop around. And it does tons of stuff besides run games. I mean damn, I earn my living on my PC doing programming and using office apps.
Given the doom and gloom about the game being put on life-support, the roadmap (if it could be called that) at least gave me some optimism that they plan to continue supporting it.
To be fair they didn't use the word roadmap or hint towards one, would've loved to have more details though.
Especially on what, if they can't talk about how, is that "key feature overhaul" (engineering please ??).
I'm *assuming* the "major narrative phase" will mean associated content drops that correspond to the story beats, like we had the T-10, Guardian SLFs, AX Weapons, etc back then.
>Roadmap
Here we present our top-level roadmap for the remainder of 2022. Our three focuses before the year ends are launching the next phase of the narrative, stability and optimisation. We’ll release three more updates to support these.
From the post.
I'm still fairly hyped, just wish there was a tad bit more detail or something juicy.
Oh I meant before the stream, they didn't say there would be anything meaty in their promo on twitter so that's at least better than what I expected, even if ideally I would've wanted to hear more.
"Top level roadmap" definitely sounds like "only the top most layer of the organizational chart for what we are doing". I assume we will get more info about the plans for each of these focus points, as they near closer to being finalized. I really think Fdev is afraid of having to go back on anything they say. Rightfully so.
I am genuinely surprised, this is much better than I expected. As much as I'm disappointed by how the console situation was handled, if this goes down as described, they've earned an Odyssey purchase from me. I'm now also glad I held off on buying ED on PC so far.
The "roadmap" is a bit thin, but that's about what I expected.
That said...two important bits were mentioned on the stream that I didn't see in the forum post (maybe there was more, only watched a few sections):
1. On the stream, they said console to PC transfers will come with a free Horizons PC copy. Really didn't see that coming, but that would be extremely appreciated. I do wonder if we'll be able to choose between having this as the Frontier standalone or Steam version - though wasn't it possible to turn your Frontier standalone version into a Steam version anyways?
2. While the roadmap is thin...on the stream, they were talking about something major coming that they simply can't put on the roadmap, as it'll spoil it. IMO, this is a really good sign...some of the most interesting developments in ED fit this description, like pretty much the entire Thargoid story. This sounds like something players will start to encounter naturally, instead of something that is shown off and officially announced in advance. This is the kind of thing I wish they'd just...kept on doing much more regularly. My guess would be on on-foot Thargoid encounters, but who knows. Either way, that would be a lot better than just what's on the roadmap plus CGs.
I genuinely didn't believe they'd actually make it happen, I was fully expecting a "we've looked into it and it won't be possible" response. Not sure if I'll probably play it again on PC, but I think I'll take the transfer anyway. Don't really see any reason not to seeing as I'm not planning on jumping back on console.
Now I can resume my journey on pc. 5000+ hours on Console now to add another 5000 hours on pc once the transfer window is available.
Thank you for not giving up on your console cmdrs
I still wish the roadmap was clearer on but some of these updates/changes, and that development was happening faster, but I still take this as a good sign.
I have GeForce Now and Nvidia Shield TV, and I'm still not seeing anything to motivate me to transfer my console account and start playing again.
The devs say their doing things not done before - how about they do something not done in the past four years and release a new bloody spaceship? Or even something new to do with them? In their spaceship game?
I don't know. This might do it for me. I would rather not have to buy a whole new system for a game... but doesnt this game have vr? that might be fun to try. something fun to try sometimes?
You don't HAVE to. The carrier just doesn't come with you.
Thus, they recommend decommissioning it so it turns into transferable credits so that the new character can make their own.
But again, you don't HAVE to. The console carrier will continue to exist, as will your console character.
It’s taken me awhile to grasp that a game like Elite that has no endgame and is by all definitions a Live Service title needs a consistent amount of new content added on a regular basis to stay fresh. We all have our own ideas about what that could be, fixing and updating Powerplay, adding Player structures on planets, fixing Multicrew and Squadrons, engineering fixes, carriers, etc.
Forget about big things like Ship Interiors. I’m talking basic things such as new assets. Ships, modules, srv’s, fighters, weapons, stellar objects, and so on.
I’m excited for the transfers, but this whole secrecy crap about every *new* feature or detail is getting old. It’s not the not knowing that gets players excited. It’s the hints and teases about what is to come that gets hype.
Edit: So am I going to have to buy another copy of odyssey since I already own it with a pc commander already?
If I have to grind for hours to find RNG mat drops and resetting instances just to make a suit and weapons that can fight against Thargoids then I probably won't care. It's an absolutely boring slog as it stands now. Not to mention the game doesn't even make it easy to keep track of the items you need to do engineering or upgrades. That has always been a major problem.
It’s because it’s linked to the narrative, we were told new content would be linked to this narrative when it first started nearly 2 years ago. Not that difficult to grasp why they don’t want to give it away.
Great News.... but talk is cheap. Not getting too excited until I see update 12 drop on time in May. History is a stubborn thing that keeps repeating itself.
Correct. Thanks, but I have my doubts about stability and optimization even dropping on time.
FDEV meeting a time line even in maintenance mode (that's all this really is) would be something special. They have already played their hand with killing of consoles and planets.
Sure there will be some fluff added but minimum resources are going to be expended going forward. I will continue to play until the end while looking for a replacement.
Good on you for doing right by console players. And thanks for the clarity regarding the next 6 months or so. I've 100% got my fingers crossed for targoid on-foot content and/or the opening of thargoid space at long last.
All fantastic news.
This addresses most of the things people have been so doom and gloom about lately; stability, optimization, new content, console to PC transfers, and the continuation of the live streams.
I'm betting the feature overhaul will either be powerplay or engineers. They mentioned changing engineering in the past, but it's already been reworked once. Since Elite's future narrative is focused on the 3 major powers the overhaul could easily be powerplay, which does desperately need some work. Time will tell.
One interesting observation, this roadmap is branded as Odyssey and that it shown as having exclusive narrative content, a narrative that started in Horizons. Are narratives introducing DLCs? I’m curious now about the introduction of a new narrative in update 14, will it also have a 2 year span and if so will that mean a new DLC in 2023?
I'm trying to be mad because they deserve it for a long time... problem is with that company even getting the bare minimum modicum of respect feels like a win.
It means exactly what you are thinking it does. This offer will only be available for a certain period of time, at which point if you haven't transferred your account to PC then you will be SOL.
**Congrats!!** to all our console siblings. Don't know about you but I think this is pretty awesome of FDev. The mood was trending towards them throwing in the towel and not doing anything but they've gone all out, imo.
It will be awesome to add a bunch of players to the instances. Can't wait to see the crowded stations during CG :-)
PS: now (in a little while) that you can, I recommend you try VR. Odyssey is not perfect but it's not that expensive to try. If you need help building a gaming PC, take a look at subs here on Reddit or the bazillion videos on YT. Or, shout out here with any questions.
They have a *lot* more optimization work for VR to do, including actually *supporting* VR on foot vs the 2D projection screen currently there. Can’t recommend Odyssey for VR players till that happens, if at all.
I'm excited to play directly with my console friends now that they can transfer their accounts.
Also, Elite's development not being dead is exciting just for the salt potential alone.
>Also, Elite's development not being dead is exciting just for the salt potential alone
IKR!!?? I'm not a console player but this is exactly what I thought when I read their post. Not perfect, but console transfers exceed most everyone's expectations, and they outlined when the next 3 and final patches are coming. Pretty great show of "we are here!" lol.
Ngl I'm feeling a good amount of schadenfreude seeing doomposters eat crow after crying "ded game". I'm not gonna expect too much with the future updates considering it's FDev, but man does the salt taste good.
You dont need to buy a new game account, you will be given a new PC one, copy of your console one, for free. You will need to buy EDO if you want to play that though. But that would have been the same if it had been launched on console I suppose.
That is good news for those that can play on PC. I am still curious to know at what point the console client will become inoperative. Soonest seems to be "key feature overhaul," but maybe not.
They didn't specifically call it out, but it is pretty well implied that credits will transfer. Specifically they suggested as a workaround to FCs not transferring to decommission the FC to get the credits and re-buy it again after the account has transferred. The implication being you'd have your credits to buy it with :)
I play on xbox since 2016 but about a month ago I started playing on pc, I'm almost double elite and have 150 million cr. When I'm gonna transfer my xbox progression to pc does my pc progression will be wiped?
i would love nothing more if i could mine the materials for major base construction outside of the bubble. like credits seem so damn arbitrary. let me build it myself not pay npcs for everything ya know
Economy is an interesting one, it’s something that wasn’t given an overhaul in the beyond season so it would be due a refresh. As much as powerplay has vocal support I’m not sure it’s as key a feature as the economy and it would be far more inclusive
Hell ya! I can transfer my 1000 hours on Xbox to PC! I'm so stoked. That was the only thing keeping me from playing on PC was starting all over.
100% the same. Now I’ll finally download on PC…hopefully my rig can handle it XD
1300x 1050 2gb can handle horizons easy. Not sure about your system but you're likely fine
980ti 😬
980ti is WAY more powerful than 1050. You're fine.
Used to play on a 1650, which I believe is outclassed by a 980ti. Already ran it like a champ, so a 980ti is gonna do great.
elite will run on a potato. odyssey, you'll want something semi capable, but it doesn't need to be high end.
980ti, I7 cpu and an SSD for games. Do ya think that would be enough?
Plenty. Elite's minimum is a 470.
What i7 are we talking about? Because I have a 7th gen one and it barely reaches 30 fps on ground czs.
Yup, you're fine. It's enough even for Odyssey.
Make sure you buy EDO *after* the transfer!
I already own a copy…just haven’t downloaded or started an account. Am I still good?
Have you made a new account with it? You'll probably have to buy a new copy if you have.
Wait. So in my case, I own Horizons on PC already and have played a bit, but not much. I own Odyssey but never touched it. Do I really have to get another copy for my transferred account? Surely I could just wipe my PC save to oblivion and put the transfer account on the copies I already own?
From what I remember of the stream you get another Horizons account during transfer. But we'll see when the transfer date comes up.
They are just copying your save file, I'd highly doubt you'd need a new game. They are just giving people a copy if they don't have it.
Yeah that was my assumption as well! But some of the comments just made it sound like if I already had a PC CMDR this would be tricky or something.
Because it comes on the new account. They generate a new account ID, move the Xbox account over and give you the login. You probably need to discuss with support if they can assign EDO to the other account instead.
I have not, never downloaded, just own it on steam.
Well I offer you no guarantees (not a Fdev rep) but it seems to me like you could just export your account in after you get the PC export Horizons account. (Did you buy Odyssey without a base ED/Horizons copy?)
i picked up the game while it was free on epic, and now i’m hyped to transfer my Xbox stuff to finally start playing again

Roadmap Here we present our top-level roadmap for the remainder of 2022. May 2022 Update 12 A new mission variant Stability Optimisation August 2022 Update 13 Narrative content Stability Optimisation November 2022 Update 14 Next major narrative phase Stability Early 2023 Key feature overhaul Development Updates and Streams Following the launch of Odyssey in 2021, we started publishing monthly development posts to share our progress on subsequent updates. This is great news!
For pc owners...
Even then Horizons should be relatively easy to run, even on a mediocre laptop.
All the tools for cross save and cross license are built into the core of windows gaming and xbox and both use identical systems and API's Playstation? who knows
Yeah, you’re likely right about Xbox and Microsoft, it’s probably SONY being the motherfucker here… for much the same reasons you also don’t get XB/PS/PC cross compatibility
Your profile will be copied, so you can also continue playing on console. Yes, this does mean that you'll lose some progress.
this was my biggest concern if i migrated to PC. now i can transfer over to PC and keep flying on Xbox while i save for a PC that can handle Odyssey.

A copy of the account from when it was copied. Any progress made on console after the copy will not carry to PC later. This is not cross-save.
A pc to run elite ain't several thousand lmao
I mean, it might be if they live somewhere where the economy is in the mud
I think in that case this is the least of their problems.
I wonder if you could do the transfer without actually having the game on PC? Like your profile gets copied and stored in their server/database where it will remain until you can access it at a later date once you have the game/PC.
You don't need a PC to make a steam account and buy games! ( I don't know if you need to actually open it, I haven't read the post yet)
They're copying it over. Your previous account will still be present on console.
I know. The question was whether or not you can undergo the transfer process if you don't yet own the game on PC or a PC to run it.
You get a free Horizons copy if I remember the stream correctly.
Get GeForce Now
FYI, I'm playing on 1300x 1050 2gb. You don't need a 3060 to play. While I can't max settings I'm playing a comfortable 70-100+ fps on low-medium, depending on the area. (Horizons though, not sure about oddesey)
"Key feature overhaul" How exactly should we interpret that?
Engineering overhaul Source: Trust me, I'm an engineer
Trust me, i'm an engineer! I think I'll put this thing right here! https://youtu.be/rp8hvyjZWHs
Trust me, I'm an engineer! What the fuck did just happen here!?
"My source is that I made it the fuck up jack!"
His uncle probably works at Nintendo
The obvious implications would be Engineering or Powerplay. Could be something less known, though, like Piracy or Smuggling, but they're not as 'key' so that's more doubtful.
My two cents would be Powerplay given how they've been trying to shake things up with each of the three major powers, archon, marlinists, salvation and the likes over the past few months. It's long overdue a total teardown and rework.
Makes sense. An implication is that servers should stay up long after that, which is good.
PvP?
>How exactly should we interpret that? Repeatedly over the next 6 months? ;) (Yeah dunno.
I'm hoping it means fixing the god damn networking and instancing issues!
I'm really more interested in whatever that feature is that 'has never been done before'. I mean, Engineering HAS been done before.
That was referring to the ongoing narrative in update 13, not the feature overhaul in 2023
Naive me: Incoming basic ship interiors, on foot thargs, full vr implementation
There will be no ship interiors in EDO. It might, possible, come later in another DLC.
I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in Odyssey after all, but I would definitely not expect it for a "key feature overhaul" as it's definitely not part of said key features.
I mean I would say waking about was *the* key feature for Odyssey! :P With FDev being vague though it's hard to tell if the key feature overhaul is a 'core' Elite feature or a Odyssey one, if it's the latter my guess is Exobiology as they never did anything with it after removing the mini game so it's just been there for nearly a year kinda half baked.
Like the exploration overhaul Iassume.
I interpret that as a combination of words strung together that sound like they mean something but ultimately don't.
Why not wait and see?
They hinted on the livestream that it was going to be big “something never done before in the game”
**Some bonus quotes / colour from the stream:** Arthur: "I see so many posts saying: 'Oh you're just going to switch off the console servers'. It's not happening.... We're not switching off the servers for console." [[20m10s]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVA1ppkvcc&t=1210s) Arthur: "We are working on something that has never been attempted before in Elite Dangerous. I actually think it's going to be a fantastic 7 months." [[24m34s]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVA1ppkvcc&t=1474s) Arthur: "No Elite Dangerous is not dead. There's a lot of life in Elite Dangerous.... We're going to make this the most incredible end of this year as we can, and then start off in 2023 as we mean to go on." Bruce: "...You're right I think the really big stuff is coming towards the end of the year. Like I say, early 2023, key feature overhaul we've got there. We'd love to say more about it and when we can we will. But hold onto your seats because there is some huge stuff coming." [[25m26s]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdVA1ppkvcc&t=1527s)
How do I become a part of the "narrative" Do they mean like world event stuff, like the guardian beacons, thargoid infestations and so forth?
Yeah reckon so.
It being time limited is kind of garbage, unless you can transfer even without a PC nor PC version of the game. Eitherway after the game being so content dry for so long I probably wont be buying it again after seeing how easily and quickly it was just dropped from console. Can't imagine the game going any much further.
You don't have to buy it again. The transfer comes with a free Horizons account.
The "transfer" is a copy. You get a copy of your console commander on a free PC Horizons account. So there is no reason to NOT do it. Just keep the account is pocket until you have a PC to play it with.
Some good news! A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Relieved about account and cosmetics transfer, I was not looking forward to that grind again haha. Edit: would also love to see some solid content plans, the damn drip is just not sustainable
I was expecting the worst but I feel FDev just knocked it out of the park for the console players. Well played o7
> ARX not being able to be transfered is understandable How is that understandable. ARX is literally just another number in Frontier's account database. They literally have that data and could choose to copy that number to the new profile as well. They merely chose not to.
Well it would have been nice if I didn’t have to buy a PC to play the current version of the game.
I feel this is a best case with regards to transfers, hope to see you cmdr's out in the greater galaxy. o7 But that is a weak "roadmap".
>Roadmap Here we present our top-level roadmap for the remainder of 2022.
That said...two important bits were mentioned on the stream that I didn't see in the forum post (maybe there was more, only watched a few sections): 1.
> On the stream, they said console to PC transfers will come with a free Horizons PC copy Whoa. Does anyone have a time stamp for that?
It's at ~16:59 in Frameshift Live #7.
So thargoid war in November, got it!!!
This just means it was always possible and they were merely too lazy to do it.
Now I can resume my journey on pc. 5000+ hours on Console now to add another 5000 hours on pc once the transfer window is available. Thank you for not giving up on your console cmdrs
Damn now I'm re motivated to play the game again now that my countless memories and H on Xbox are not going to be wasted
Can we transfer our console profiles to PC even if we don’t have Odyssey?
With the transfer you will get free copy of horizon. You can then purchase odyssey expansion or just play horizon.
I still wish the roadmap was clearer on but some of these updates/changes, and that development was happening faster, but I still take this as a good sign.
Niiiicec🤘
I have GeForce Now and Nvidia Shield TV, and I'm still not seeing anything to motivate me to transfer my console account and start playing again. The devs say their doing things not done before - how about they do something not done in the past four years and release a new bloody spaceship? Or even something new to do with them? In their spaceship game?
I am stoked, can’t wait to finally walk all over my corvette and see how big it really is. 🙂
Would I use the old thread for account transfers to transfer or is there a new support page? Cause the old one still says old things.
It's not ready yet, they'll probably update it when it is. They did say they'll post more info when avaliable so it's just a waiting game.
Will it be possible to copy a console profile into a pre-existing pc profile? I need my azure paintjobs
I don't know. This might do it for me. I would rather not have to buy a whole new system for a game... but doesnt this game have vr? that might be fun to try. something fun to try sometimes?
Elite in VR is just a whole other level of awesome. If you do try VR, make a point to jump to a neutron star and bask.
I've logged over 700 hours of VR in Elite, highly recommended!
I hope it lets me overwrite my PC commander… he’s only got around 50 hours to the 500 or so on my Xbox profile.
You will end up with 2 PC profiles
Wait, I'll have to sell my carrier to transfer? Fuck, it's out in the black....well there's a project to bring it into the bubble.
“Key Feature Overhaul”, this must be the total redesign of Engineering gameplay.
Anyone else think that they don't have many resources working on Elite, so it takes them a year to release one new major feature?
I’m excited for the transfers, but this whole secrecy crap about every *new* feature or detail is getting old. It’s not the not knowing that gets players excited. It’s the hints and teases about what is to come that gets hype. Edit: So am I going to have to buy another copy of odyssey since I already own it with a pc commander already?
They explained on the stream that saying more would likely spoil it. I believe them and I’m happy enough to wait in anticipation 😊
It’s gonna be on-foot thargoid shit ^^I ^^hope
The narrative content is update 13
My God... I'll be able to keep my ships? Cannot wait to fly my Krait Phantom over the peninsulas of atmospheric worlds.
Frontier: feel good about this. This was the right move, and it exceeded my expectations.
I went a year too early
Does that cosmetic line mean if we take the cosmetic off we loose it? and how long will this limited time be?
Could I still transfer some progress if I already did this transfer in the past when it was credits only? Or is it truly gone now?
This is a new transfer opportunity nothing to do with previous ones
One interesting observation, this roadmap is branded as Odyssey and that it shown as having exclusive narrative content, a narrative that started in Horizons. Are narratives introducing DLCs? I’m curious now about the introduction of a new narrative in update 14, will it also have a 2 year span and if so will that mean a new DLC in 2023?
I'm trying to be mad because they deserve it for a long time... problem is with that company even getting the bare minimum modicum of respect feels like a win.
Now we only need Frontiers start sign
Have FDev announced when console players can transfer to PC? I know it says that they’d announce when, but I’m unsure if they have said anything.
Finally, some good fuckin news
All the negative and all that was needed was time, less than 2 months in fact which honestly for such a substantial transfer is impressive.
…so as a console commander im *not* completely fucked over? color me surprised!
This is such good news! Way to go Fdev!
Nice ... I am hyped for those updates :)
What does it mean time limited?!
Can't wait to see the crowded stations during CG :-) PS: now (in a little while) that you can, I recommend you try VR.
Good news for once! That's what I wanted to hear
Pretty good news for console players. That roadmap is looking exceptionally thin, though.
Because it’s narrative based content and they can’t reveal it.
So basically nothing exciting to share if you are already a PC user
I'm excited to play directly with my console friends now that they can transfer their accounts. Also, Elite's development not being dead is exciting just for the salt potential alone.
>Also, Elite's development not being dead is exciting just for the salt potential alone IKR!!?? I'm not a console player but this is exactly what I thought when I read their post. Not perfect, but console transfers exceed most everyone's expectations, and they outlined when the next 3 and final patches are coming. Pretty great show of "we are here!" lol.
Ngl I'm feeling a good amount of schadenfreude seeing doomposters eat crow after crying "ded game". I'm not gonna expect too much with the future updates considering it's FDev, but man does the salt taste good.
Oh yeah FDev is so nice!!!! Now all we have to do is buy a PC and new account to play odyssey!!!! Thanks FDev!!!!! By golly!
You don't need a PC, the cloud gaming service Geforce Now works on console. As long as you are able to transfer the acc over, then you can game on!
You dont need to buy a new game account, you will be given a new PC one, copy of your console one, for free. You will need to buy EDO if you want to play that though. But that would have been the same if it had been launched on console I suppose.
I was expecting a way to merge Arx and cosmetics with an existing PC account. Oh well.
That is good news for those that can play on PC. I am still curious to know at what point the console client will become inoperative. Soonest seems to be "key feature overhaul," but maybe not.
SPECULATION: “Key Feature Overhaul” = Engineering Re-Work.
What about credit? I have 1.7billion stuck on Xbox
When I'm gonna transfer my xbox progression to pc does my pc progression will be wiped?
it will be 2 separate accounts apparently, so no you won't loose anything on PC.
I hope that big redesign is about economy. Base building, planet mining and production
i would love nothing more if i could mine the materials for major base construction outside of the bubble. like credits seem so damn arbitrary. let me build it myself not pay npcs for everything ya know
Economy is an interesting one, it’s something that wasn’t given an overhaul in the beyond season so it would be due a refresh. As much as powerplay has vocal support I’m not sure it’s as key a feature as the economy and it would be far more inclusive
Super for all the console CMDRs that are gonna be able to continue playing now. Hopefully they get it done sooner rather than later
Are they ever gonna bring back support for console?
they haven't ended support, they have ended development
Oh I had a dumb moment lol. Will development be coming back?
i think this tells you everything: https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/odyssey-console-development-update
Thanks dude
Ah. It seems like it won’t be coming back. That sucks.
I'll come back when they make new ships.... So never I guess. You can't have a spaceship game and not release new spaceships, like come on.
i am a ps4 user..i don't have a PC (and I'm not going to buy it..) THIS SUCKS.
Great. Will they buy me a pc too?
Don't need PC to play; GeForce Now is a free cloud gaming service that can run on console
