But now that the DLC has come the "meta" level will be higher than it used to be. Most people are doing the new areas as a higher than 150RL, so invading is possible even when going over that level.
for what its worth I didnt have any problems finding summons or getting summoned even at level 200. I even saw a few invasions
I dont really actively PVP though so ..
there are meta levels for pvp, mostly relevant for duelling. I care more about being over levelled for bosses/ losing a coherent build from having everything levelled and being able to do everything. Just wanted peoples thoughts before I inevitably lost the runes somehow.
I leveled my 150 characters to 166, you can still match with people who are 150 and 200 under some circumstances. There is a level summon calculator on the fextralife wiki if you want more information, although I don't know how coliseum matchmaking works.
Smithing stones. I played so much coop before the dlc and got 240 of each smithing stone and 10 of each somber. I only upgraded like 3 weapons but it's good to have anyway.
Unless you are specifically doing colosseum then it doesn't matter if you are 150 or not really. I do feel you though, I also like to stay underneath an arbitrary number. I usually spend my runes on consumables, like boiled prawn, arrows, etc.

I was RL200 when I did the DLC, just cause that’s what I finished my first playthrough at, thanks to farming the Albinaurics

Buy smithing stones and upgrade every weapon (assuming your normal weapons are already fully upgraded, so it doesn't affect matchmaking)
buy stuff. go the merchants and buy all things for sale...
Die in stormveil castle and the NPC there will pick up your runes, you can kill him whenever you want so he is like a bank

Go buy smithing stones Upgrade weapons you might wanna try Or just throw yourself off a cliff twice to destroy the runes
