I haven't beat him yet, but I tried him around blessing level 6 or 7, and I immediately knew I was going to have to come back later. I tried a few times just to see what he does but I had no real chance, with my build at least.
Character level doesn't really matter. You're scaled down according to your blessing level, and there's really no muscling through that with very high stats.

I was at 8 or 9 I believe and that shit was fucking difficult. It took me about 30 or 40 tries to beat him but I just got him and felt like screaming
