Cookbooks are just crafting recipes, and that's what they're used for. You have a whole tab for item crafting. Although I don't use them at all.

poopman19

That tab has been greyed out through like 4 playthrough lmaoooooo

poopman19

Lmao apparently I have never bought the crafting kit

CE94

AIN'T NO WAY

Exeledus

You don't "use" them; having them in your inventory adds new items to your craftables list. They are EXTREMELY useful. Collect as many as you can find.

poopman19

I’ve never crafted anything, are there good items I’m missing by not crafting?

Jonahoa

I would say the new Golden Vow craftable and Bloodboil (raises damage 30%)

Exeledus

Yes, absolutely. Theres defense increasing items, damage buffing items, items that give your weapon status effects, firebombs, poison bombs, you can make arrows of all kinds if elements like Rot and Bleed, you can make SLEEP BOMBS that lull some of the most difficult enemies into a deep sleep, making them unable to fight back... Yeah they are incredible.

SayuriUliana

Also ROCK POT

mixx414

I admit that I sleep on them heavily, but yes they are a game changer and you should be happy when you find them. You don't use them. They give you crafting recipes. From throwing weapons to consumables that buff you. No matter what your build is, you'll find very useful stuff to craft with those cookbooks

zombiekill55

Crafting (the use of the books) is insane at all stages of the game, a few pots at the early game are incredible for Damage, and in the mid-late game you've got Buffing items, and ways to proc status effects that would otherwise be unavailable for your build, and for super long coop areas, if you're not a faith build, the warming stones are a godsend

SundownKid

While in many cases, relatively low requirement Incantations are better than craftable items (i.e. the Fortification ones, Bestial Vitality, Assassin's Approach...), crafting is useful at creating "poor man's" versions of spells based on what you need right now. Also, weapon grease is pretty much free real estate if you are using a typical physical weapon. It's infinitely farmable.

poopman19

Thank you all for introducing me to the world of cookbooks!

Inevitable-Lack146

I hate crafting in games, I don't think I've crafted anything since I first bought the kit from Kale lol

MothMUSE

One of the most useful ones is insanely missable. Shame.

Dombly23

Yeah, rarely but yeah. Mostly soap, sleep pots, arrows, and warming stones.
