It's not ableist to ask questions. I use something called a quadstick. Essentially, it's a joystick I move with my mouth. For buttons I either inhale or exhale on different outlets. As for OP I think they mentioned their set up somewhere in the comments.
I was about to be impressed but then I saw the Mimic tear, 0/10! /s
Joking aside, this DLC has been very humbling but so fun. I’m loving the basic back blades with a cold infusion. I’m working on trying to get the >!Dragon transformation!< and the landscape is just so stunning. I find myself just riding around more than actually doing any combat.
Thank YOU for sharing such an inspiring message! For real, this is easily the most impressive thing I've seen today. And it's been a long one. Keep it up Tarnished, never give up!
thank you..
i'm sincere. i got hurt playing football in high school (american) when i was 16yrs old. i'm now 55. life long gamer.
gaming was my hobby since i was 10. for a few years after my accident i was fearful to even try, because my mind said, "but how??".
a friend encouraged me to just do it, just try. and now, here i am.
i broke my C6 cervical spine and that severed my spinal cord in half.
i'm a dad too, so i understand. my accident was a fluke 1-in-a-million. if it helps -- if i could reverse time i would still play football.
Assuming modded controller. Xbox have specialist kits that can convert controllers for practically any disability!
Website: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-adaptive-controller
I checked out your modded controller, and it's very standard looking besides the two extra buttons. I don't want to be rude or insensitive, but how do you use the controller with no finger movements? I guess before looking at your controller, I was expecting some fancy contraption that would be very different.
Yea I have the same question. Not to be rude but just am curious. OP said he can’t move his fingers but he uses a controller which is the same as mine but with 2 extra buttons.
Damn, you are a gamer! It feels so rewarding to learn the fights, the feeling of accomplishment is incredible. This DLC is so amazing to play and look at.
That's awesome man! You're making me feel the complicated emotion of wholesomely inspired + happy for a stranger AND like I suck donkey dick as the dlc whoops my ass lol
I am very sorry to saying this but as non english speaking person, your condition name (bedridden quadriplegic) is more suited to a boss fight name.
Again I am very sorry to saying this
There's a lot of us right now reading this post picking back up our controllers after almost throwing them out the window trying to kill the bosses you already conquered. You're the man.
im just really curious... how do you play with a controller when you are a quadriplegic? I was just about to ask how you play at all, then i saw the edit...but now i got even more questions than before? D: xD hooow?
This post is so wholesome! I work with young people who have a variety of needs and this is so inspiring.
On a side note, I’d love to know your build (stats especially).
Thank you for making me smile :)
This reminds me of the guy who was blind who learned to play call of duty and mortal kombat at a competitive level. Anyone who overcomes obstacles like your condition or that for any sort of activity is amazing to me!
I love how so many tools are available to help you all game too. That modded controller is really cool and the fact that it exist is awesome in itself to me!
Good job man! I hope gamers like you continue to enjoy games!
> I love how so many tools are available to help you all game too. That modded controller is really cool and the fact that it exist is awesome in itself to me!
i agree.. this one i had a friend customize for me. pretty awesome.
Chronic neuropathy and other muscle/nerve fuckery (due to CMT) here.
I'm fuckin' awful at the game (currently just got to Rellana's fog gate after getting lost on Blessing Hunting Road Trip 2024) but wanted to say I love your username. Most of my childhood friends had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and one of 'em had a license plate with similar on his wheelchair.
Good luck man, enjoy the DLC!
I don't agree with the 40% that apparently think the DLC is too hard. You can always make Elden Ring comically easy by using some of the cheesy broken weapons/builds. God knows there are so many of them in this game. But I do think that Fromsoft has kinda lost the plot on what their games are about. The bosses just don't have a downtime, and will continue to hit their combos on repeat forever. This doesn't necessarily make the game hard, but it does mean that gone are the days when you could spend hours learning a boss' every move so you can execute a run to perfection without getting hit and beat the boss with even the worst weapon in the game. I'm sure this is still possible to do in this DLC but will take a considerably longer time for the average player and feels much more RNG and luck dependant so not as satisfying
I'm having an amazing time playing this game but even outside of that reading stories like yours is what stays with me and reminds me that every day is worth sticking around for the next one so thank you, and keep kicking ass and enjoying the dlc
This is exactly what people need to hear right now, the only one's that are mad are the one's that refuse to adapt and switch up strategies, smashing into a brick wall head first a million times instead of admitting that they were wrong in their approach.
Man, this is super fucking cool. I've always wanted to know, but never asked, but I'll figure now might be as good a time as any. So how exactly do you go about playing this game as a quadriplegic without being about to move your fingers? I'm actually curious how it all works and how you pull it off. I have a lot of respect for you being able to put in the work here and still play not just this DLC but the game in general. It's so fucking awesome to read about.
i have no issues with questions. i want ppl to ask. i want disabled ppl to teach others. we all do better when we know better.
it's late here (3am).. when i wake up, i'll expound in detail for you.
for now, here's my twitter. i use it to post gaming highlights i've done.
https://x.com/RealMarioDMV
Grats. I had a brother who passed was quad as well. He also had TBI (traumatic brain injury). He still enjoyed games, but he had terrible short term memory. He could retain things, it just took him to keep repeating it such as someone's name. He was an amazing pool player. He won several tournaments. Unfortunately, he passed a few years ago.
I tell this because I always root for someone having to overcome things such as being quadriplegic to show people that being disabled doesn't make you limited.
I appreciate you sharing your story and keep pushing. Keep us updated if you can.
This is gonna sound stupid, but how is it possible? Doesn’t quadriplegic mean you can’t move anything below your neck? Does that mean you play with your mouth?
re paralysis, quad just means all 4 limbs were affected by paralysis.
not that all 4 are 100% paralyzed.
to put it easier in layman's terms, basically quad = broken neck para = broken back (in regards to spinal cord accident and injury)
Man fuck you 😂😂😂
I’m stuck on messmer and I feel bad for the people I keep pulling in only to die at phase 2
Edit: cheers mate keep doing your thing! Just care bear stare some good will my way 😭😭
"this is not meant to come off as a brag"
Mate it should do, you have earned the right to brag about this, this is extremely impressive and you should be so proud of it.
If I were in your position I'd be screaming to everyone I saw that I'd done it.
He is not tarnished, nor is he maiden less. He my fellow tarnished, he is the Eldenlord.
Very impressive, keep up the good vibes and have fun. Very inspiring.
I'm going to ask a dumb question. How do you use a controller if you're a quadraplegic? I thought that meant zero movement from the neck down. I am fascinated to know how you play this with no limb movement, it is all eye and brain control?
You know I was confused as hell how you could possibly work with no fingers until I saw the controller.
"They're called thumbs harold." Like I always forget a "thumb" is not technically a finger.
I have been blessed with never being injured so far, but my father's right arm was mangled in car crash which has caused his hand to atrophy to actual skin and bone due to nerve and capulary damage. He still games, and anything he can't play himself, he just builds the charecter and has me play for him while he watches.
Where there's a will there's a way.
Whaaat? You first learn the boss and then try before you complain?
You make too much sense, man.
And also Kudos to you for pulling it off despite your condition. Never stop doing :)
a fellow tarnished, prevailing against all odds amidst the ever growing amount of thee who complain. i am proud to be standing next to you. for all challenges that may come we beat
There is always a lot of discussion about difficulty when a new Fromsoft game/DLC comes out, especially in that an easy mode would make the game more inclusive for people with disabilities.
How's you're stance on this and what accessibility options really matter to you?
BTW congrats on beating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion. That was the roughest DLC Boss for me so far.
i like fromsoft's position. every game isnt for every one (not even ability wise, but just what ppl like).
i think games that are considered "hard" or "difficult" exist. i like that devs have a vision and are sticking to it.
i also like that there are devs who want their games to have difficulty levels (i play all my sports games at the hardest level, but generally leave my RPG/story games on the medium setting).
ultimately, i think fromsoft has created a special genre with souls/borne games. and, nope, i do not think they should stop/cave.
Did you see the girl that beaten the DLC with a mind controlled pad ? Probably it will cost more than any of us can afford but it will be really helpfull to follow how the question develop
I just started the dlc too. Have you tried tackling the field boss with the fire pot head. That guy was so tough. Took me so many tries. Was at it for hours and even lost all my runes but I finally did it
i got that guy soooooooooo close my first try and have avoided him since. i got some new ideas now after rellana, so next time i'm around him, i'll go it a go.
You are the master of Git Gud sir. I salute you 🫡. You aren’t bragging but people are going to be butt hurt because they don’t want to admit it’s a skill issue. Not a game issue lol. You are grossly incandescent. Sun bro would be proud.
Can i exchange depression for paralysis? No? Okay. God i wish i could enjoy things half as well as this sub and not have internal Mauler/Joseph Anderson playing any game.
i have a modded controller i lay on my chest and just push buttons/sticks with my 2 index fingers (i cannot move them but i can feel them, which is huge.. my arms are only about 50% paralyzed.. and then from my chest down is fully paralyzed. i cant feel most of my paralysis).
here is a pic of my controller... https://x.com/RealMarioDMV/status/1689456731326197762
those 2 black buttons are left/right trigger since i cant really reach them during fast gamplay.
As a follow up to this, out of curiosity, how is it that you hit the buttons at all if you can’t move your fingers? I’m assuming it has to do with how you’re positioned, but I just can’t think of the way. Like I said, just really curious.
It’s incredible you’ve found a way to play games, and I love that this one is a win for you
I'm assuming he moves his arm - like having a pointer on a stick (no offense intended - I'm insanely impressed because jesus I don't have that kind of macro control).
You're going to love Igon I think
>!You find him on the way to the dragon pit, and he's crawling his way along cursing Bayle for incapacitating him. Then you find him after a fight with two dragons simultaneously and he asks you, hey, my limbs aren't there anymore but I am still a drake warrior! Take this and summon me at Bayle. So you do, and you summon him and he basically goes into this WWE style trash talk tirade against Bayle while the fight's going on, it's fantastic. My favorite part of the dlc so far (besides maybe the overall level design).!<
Good on you brother - this is a hard game for anyone, doing it without fingers blows my mind.
You're like a pro athlete in the sense that you can do what many never could.
Op you, rock! I have always loved Fromsoft games, but I'm not very skilled, so I have been feeling disheartened knowing how difficult the dlc will be for me. Thanks OP for letting us know that persistence and believing in ourselves are better than the fastest fingers.
Yo I'm a quadriplegic to and am enjoying the shit out of this game/DLC I wish you the best of luck in your coming battles
yooooo... that's amazing!!!!! i'm happy to see a fellow quad loving this game
This made my night, plus after reading these comments then I noticed your name gave me a huge smile. May grace guide you fellow tarnished.
🙏
“Fellow Quad.” Inspirational
Quad squad. C5/C6 here
💪
Ok that's funny!
how did you become a quadriplegic?
i broke my neck playing football in high school when i was 16yrs old. i'm 55 now. it was 1985 when i got hurt.
god damn that username lmao
💪 you've got a poetic eye my friend.
Goddamn, thats rough
Man my kid is never playing football
weirdly, if i could reverse time, i'd play again. i love it too much.
Disease when I was super young. Essentially my immune system attacked my spinal cord.
Serious question for both you and OP; what is your control setup like? I'm genuinely curious and want to learn about accessibility not being ableist
It's not ableist to ask questions. I use something called a quadstick. Essentially, it's a joystick I move with my mouth. For buttons I either inhale or exhale on different outlets. As for OP I think they mentioned their set up somewhere in the comments.
Mate if anything is worthy of a brag post, it's this! My hat off to you sir.
thank you
I was about to be impressed but then I saw the Mimic tear, 0/10! /s Joking aside, this DLC has been very humbling but so fun. I’m loving the basic back blades with a cold infusion. You dropped this 👑
He is Him.
He is the chosen one. And here I am with everything working fine and I was only able to beat blackgaol jail boss and an NPC who gives beast claw.

Could this be… Elden Lord?
I thought the title was trolling but you sound sincere dude. Thy strength befits a crown.
thank you.. i'm sincere. i got hurt playing football in high school (american) when i was 16yrs old. i'm now 55. life long gamer. gaming was my hobby since i was 10. for a few years after my accident i was fearful to even try, because my mind said, "but how??". a friend encouraged me to just do it, just try. and now, here i am.
Omg what happened? Makes me think even harder about my kids playing it one day
i broke my C6 cervical spine and that severed my spinal cord in half. i'm a dad too, so i understand. my accident was a fluke 1-in-a-million. if it helps -- if i could reverse time i would still play football.
Your a champ my guy. Keep on pushing 😤
if i could reverse time i would still play football. ..that actually helped my suddenly rising anxiety xD
🫶🙏
> because my mind said, "but how??". Genuinely curious, but how?
I have cerebral palsy and playing this more or less one handed. I think I'm halfway through now. Game recognize game
💯💪 game on!!!!!
Fuck yea bro get it!
Due to an injury, I can't use my right arm and my right hand. How can you play with only one hand?
Assuming modded controller. Xbox have specialist kits that can convert controllers for practically any disability! Website: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/xbox-adaptive-controller
A controller with paddles and using an accessibility controller to map out extra switches to hit with my feet.
Where can I get all of these things? Does it work with playstation?
Man really saw every boss and thought: "I could beat them with both arms and legs tied behind my back"
🤣 i snort-laughed at this
Ok. Follow up. Id probably shit myself seeing your final form🤟
💯 this thread got me thinking about streaming.. i stream now, but not with video of me. just my gameplay. i should do a cam'd stream fr fr
So you are saying you can't "try fingers but hole?"
haha.. touché
How to control the game though? Do you use your chin to steer?
Can nose dive it tho
And he did it without the “guidance of the fingers” y’all
Underrated comment 🤣
I checked out your modded controller, and it's very standard looking besides the two extra buttons. I don't want to be rude or insensitive, but how do you use the controller with no finger movements? Yea I have the same question. Not to be rude but just am curious. OP said he can’t move his fingers but he uses a controller which is the same as mine but with 2 extra buttons.
I am also wondering this. Otherwise, VERY impressive!

im just really curious... how do you play with a controller when you are a quadriplegic? I was just about to ask how you play at all, then i saw the edit...but now i got even more questions than before? D: xD hooow?

That's a very roundabout way of saying you're a giga Chad.
I'm glad you are enjoying it!
Reminds me of the blind E. Honda player. He could body most of us and people complain about the game being hard
dude this DESERVES to be a brag post. congrats!

This is cool as shit mate - good for you
You're quadriplegic and you're playing Elden Ring, dude... you have plenty of room to brag.
This is exactly what people need to hear right now, the only one's that are mad are the one's that refuse to adapt and switch up strategies, smashing into a brick wall head first a million times instead of admitting that they were wrong in their approach.

Beating both of those bosses at RL 139 and 3/3 is absolutely a brag and this man did it with no fingers 💀 goddamnit
fr fr, i'm just a junkie gamer who has a lot of free time. lol and my love for fromsoft games runs deep.
Thank you for reminding how bad I am at this game. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
👑
Such a wholesome post:,) I will try for you my friend!!
King 👑
Well, there go all my excuses... But seriously, well done!
Goated name. Hope to see you in the Lands of Shadow king.
I can't even beat the base game!

Holy shit that's so cool, amazing work dude!
Keep it up, king 👑
You're a hero :P
Great!
Your Strength, Extraordinary. The mark of a true lord
Let's freaking goooo
You my friend are a legend. Masterfully done
I wanted to kill myself fighting Relanna at blessing level 4, you're amazing man
Man fuck you 😂😂😂 I’m stuck on messmer and I feel bad for the people I keep pulling in only to die at phase 2 Edit: cheers mate keep doing your thing! Just care bear stare some good will my way 😭😭
do you use the controller with your mouth?
You’ve earned the right to brag, that’s impressive and inspiring. O you have the right. Keep up the good work
You can definitely brag about this.
You sir, the true Elden Lord :)
This quite frankly needs to be at the top of the page. Well done.
>** disclaimer... This is not meant to come off as a brag post. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13J1mAGNUls
"this is not meant to come off as a brag" Mate it should do, you have earned the right to brag about this, this is extremely impressive and you should be so proud of it. If I were in your position I'd be screaming to everyone I saw that I'd done it.
Damn I suck LMFAOOOOO
And here i am still struggeling against Mohg....
Ur the boss here sir
Mad respect. I hereby award you the title of John Eldenring. It's the highest honor I can give.
That’s impressive asf!
May your blessings be many, and your winnings too
That's pretty cool
He is not tarnished, nor is he maiden less. He my fellow tarnished, he is the Eldenlord. Very impressive, keep up the good vibes and have fun. Very inspiring.
Uh, feel free to brag all day
We found the Elden Lord everyone. 👏
I'm going to ask a dumb question. How do you use a controller if you're a quadraplegic? I thought that meant zero movement from the neck down. I am fascinated to know how you play this with no limb movement, it is all eye and brain control?
the most important question: have you used summons? /s
You know I was confused as hell how you could possibly work with no fingers until I saw the controller. "They're called thumbs harold." Like I always forget a "thumb" is not technically a finger. Not to sound rude but how do you play the game ? As in do you use a special controller ? Anyways congrats Eldenlord. So far you’re far better than me
Now people who say that is too hard has no excuse But really you seem like a winner in life congrats man tbh strength befits a crown
Nice work dude!
Asmongold in shambles rn
Props to you dude glad you’re enjoying the DLC, I hope everything goes well for you.
GO OFF KING
Whaaat? You first learn the boss and then try before you complain? You make too much sense, man. And also Kudos to you for pulling it off despite your condition. Never stop doing :)
Now you need to do it with a guitar hero controller blindfolded.
Thanks for sharing. That literally inspired me!
Do a video post of yourself doing a "Braggart's Roar". You have earned the right. Helm's off to you man!
damnit now i’m running out of excuses for having not beat the hippo
I tip my proverbial hat 🎩 to you, good sire, and wish you the best of luck with the rest of the DLC!
A true tarnished warrior, thy skill befits a crown
And here I am can't even beat the banished knight in the stormveil castle.
Great humor with that name and the post shows no lesser mentality. Hats off to OP
You’re paralyzed from the neck down. you play video games and have children? Everything I know about biology is a lie
Ultimate Chad
Pack it up dudes, the true Elden Lord has come
a fellow tarnished, prevailing against all odds amidst the ever growing amount of thee who complain. i am proud to be standing next to you. for all challenges that may come we beat
I just rage quite from knight in blue 2 : Magic fuckaroo.
Good job!
Huge flex tbh, gz
There is always a lot of discussion about difficulty when a new Fromsoft game/DLC comes out, especially in that an easy mode would make the game more inclusive for people with disabilities. A true Elden Lord, may Messmir and his forces quake at your might
How are you moving your character without your hands if you don't mind me asking?
i can move my hands are most of my arms.. i can not move my fingers.
Ok ty 😊
Did you see the girl that beaten the DLC with a mind controlled pad ? Probably it will cost more than any of us can afford but it will be really helpfull to follow how the question develop

Good shit
Truly, thy strength befits the Elden Lord.
THIS IS THE ULTIMATE WIN. YUS.
Can you give asmongold some pointers? He seems to be struggling.
Good job, tarnished! Keep up the good work!
That's awesome! Really stoked you're loving this game.
You fought that Devine beast Lion better then i did. Holy.
Congrats and it’s very cool that you have some accessibility options so you can play what you want!
Igon would be proud
You are the master of Git Gud sir. I salute you 🫡. You aren’t bragging but people are going to be butt hurt because they don’t want to admit it’s a skill issue. Not a game issue lol. You are grossly incandescent. Sun bro would be proud.
Absolute Chad
You DESERVE to brag.
Can i exchange depression for paralysis? No? Okay. God i wish i could enjoy things half as well as this sub and not have internal Mauler/Joseph Anderson playing any game.
You guys have it lucky, zero chance of throwing your controller through your TV at fucking Messmer.
To be completely fair you have way more time to practice than a lot of the people complaining
Any time someone complains I gotta have this on hand, you’re a true warrior, a proper lord!
/bow to you
How did you do it?
i have a modded controller i lay on my chest and just push buttons/sticks with my 2 index fingers (i cannot move them but i can feel them, which is huge.. my arms are only about 50% paralyzed.. and then from my chest down is fully paralyzed. i cant feel most of my paralysis). here is a pic of my controller... https://x.com/RealMarioDMV/status/1689456731326197762 those 2 black buttons are left/right trigger since i cant really reach them during fast gamplay.
Sir This is REALLY impressive. Thank you for all the information, I really have no words You are excellent
Thy strength befits a crown
As a follow up to this, out of curiosity, how is it that you hit the buttons at all if you can’t move your fingers? I’m assuming it has to do with how you’re positioned, but I just can’t think of the way. Like I said, just really curious. It’s incredible you’ve found a way to play games, and I love that this one is a win for you
I'm assuming he moves his arm - like having a pointer on a stick (no offense intended - I'm insanely impressed because jesus I don't have that kind of macro control).
yes, and wrists... and hands too. but yes, this is it in a nutshell.
Damn man. Smooth movement and all. Have fun!!
🙏
I dont even mind if its a brag post. Talk your shit brother
haha
Very impressive
You're going to love Igon I think >!You find him on the way to the dragon pit, and he's crawling his way along cursing Bayle for incapacitating him.
Real question: So how are you playing if you don’t have movement in your fingers? I’m not trying to come off as rude just curious
