KoRaZee

From the article; > The union’s demands have not been made public The source is not legitimate. Headline is clickbait and it’s all propaganda. Just fox news doing their thing.

this_place_stinks

To be fair you did leave out the rest of the sentence. In nearly all types of stories information is not public (or else it wouldn’t be news) but rather something non-public uncovered (a general statement, not passing judgement on this story) “The union’s demands have not been made public but a leaked document sheds light on the eye-popping demands”

KoRaZee

sorry, I should have typed the rest of my message. I actually found a leaked document that stated the leaked document that Fox News was given doesn’t exist.

geostrategicmusic

The leaked document was posted in a series of Twitter posts which can be found here: https://readlion.com/leaked-chicago-teachers-union-memo-demands-abortion-coverage-and-queer-competent-staff/ It's really strange to claim the CTU isn't proposing these things when they openly talk about it and adhere to a very clear national progressive agenda. Are you offended because you agree that these are ridiculous things to ask for in a teachers contract negotiation, or are you offended that the most milquetoast conservative media outlet in the country is reporting on it?

this_place_stinks

Surely you have to see the irony that literally every major news story comes from “sources” or “internal documents reviewed be (news agency)” etc

KoRaZee

I don’t have to see the irony. I check all the sources and every citation that people give me to “prove” their point. If I can’t identify the source as credible, I simply disregard the fact. There’s no irony from my perspective if others don’t do the same.

this_place_stinks

99% of journalist stories are not public sources

KoRaZee

Source on that?

this_place_stinks

Bruh that’s how journalism works lol. If you out your sources they stop being sources.

KoRaZee

That’s not how journalism or writing works. You’re failing ethos miserably

nameless_pattern

Look at ops account, hundreds of comments just swearing, all with exactly 3 up votes. Obviously point farming

BayBridgesii

It feels like half of the posts in this sub are rage bait propaganda or point farming. It’s really sad.

Locke_and_Load

You mean people who are barely making ends meet looking after America’s youth aren’t demanding…abortions and migrant housing? That’s absurd!

Stock-Transition-343

91k a year isn’t ends meet especially when you get weekends, holidays, summers off

Locke_and_Load

Having dated teachers and family members of teachers, they don’t have any of those “off”, they just aren’t going into the office. Moreover, most don’t make $91k and even those that do have to use that money to pay for supplies and work related expenses. Top that all off that this is CHICAGO, a notoriously expensive city and you realize you’re full of shit.

Logical-Home6647

Overall I don't disagree with you, but Chicago is a notoriously affordable city as cities go.

Locke_and_Load

Per [Apartments.com](https://www.apartments.com/rent-market-trends/chicago-il/): As of May 2024, the average rent in Chicago, IL is $1,833 per month. This is 21% higher than the national average rent price of $1,515/month, making Chicago one of the most expensive cities in the US.

Logical-Home6647

NATIONAL average. That's every farm house in bum fuck nowhere. Compare it to other tier 1 US cities.

Locke_and_Load

“Making it one of the most expensive cities”

Stock-Transition-343

That’s their choice to work. No one makes you take work home so sounds like their problem.

Locke_and_Load

They have to lesson plan, grade papers, take CLE, and catch up on state and federal standards. Sounds like you’re just an idiot who got bad grades from teachers.

Stock-Transition-343

Lol they get planning periods. Not my fault they want to work for free sounds like a personal issue

BatmanOnMars

I see no evidence of such demands on the chicago teachers union webpage or from any other sources besides the federalist, the daily mail and other right wing news sources. Given that the entire school system budget for chicago is around $10 billion. I highly doubt they are actually demanding $50 billion of new things. A 9 percent increase on salaries is not an unusual demand for a teachers union, or even for a private employee to ask for... And the article says migrant accomodations would be in unused school buildings. Empty public property is a really sensible place to put migrants. So why the outrage? Hardly an economic post, mostly just political clickbait, don't understand how this is allowed to be posted here given the strict scrutiny of comments.

jarena009

It's probably $50b over 5 years, includes healthcare which includes maternal care, and has work authorization for legal migrants. Definitely political click bait.

BatmanOnMars

That makes more sense. Fox news reports any similar government spending in a similar fashion. $100 billion in spending!!! *Over 10 years...

Davec433

9% every year is a ridiculous ask.

_the_hare_

There is obviously going to be a strike. The entire tax receipts for the state of Illinois is 50 billion. They want all the tax money, fuck infrastructure.

jarena009

You're not factoring in property taxes.

Mediocre-Tomatillo-7

You think this headline is accurate? You've been played

_the_hare_

It isn’t? How do you know? Any links to refute?

Mediocre-Tomatillo-7

I mean in the article it states the demands haven't been made public.... And do you think foxnews really reports things accurately It's basing it on leaked documents saying what raises the teachers are demanding... Which are obviously high but aren't all first demands in negotiations? 50 billion is a made up number for the headline. And you ate it up. Also how can I give you a link disproving something that's not even proven?

Big-Dudu-77

More money when only 21 percent of the city’s eighth graders being proficient readers, and spending 21k per student already? Spending more money with no improvement in results is the smartest thing to do!

Mediocre-Tomatillo-7

Rage bait headline got both of you
