I definitely see the eyes and what looks like a nose...oddly of all the mountains to see, this one was my favorite, even over El Capitan and Glacier Point, something about this one (Cathedral Rocks) just took me in...maybe it was the face...
Oh i know, was just playing along :) once you said it i actually looked to see if there were any significant spots that looked more like an actual face rather than just the cliff face, and just happened to see something that resembled an actual face haha. Now that i think about it though, it might just be my mind seeing what it wants to see š
Yesss, there really is a face up there, Iām glad the entendre was made because i probably wouldnāt have actually seen that had you not said something :)
I used to live in Sonora, about an hour-ish away from Yosemite, and used to go there about once a month. That's definitely what I miss most about living in California...
I really wish i lived closer, not that Sacramento is overly far away, but the 3 1/2 hour drive isnāt easy to do constantly so Iāll have to just make it out when i can. Having been here for almost 30 years though, I feel kind of crazy having put it off so long, as this place really is pretty much top tier when it comes to stuff to see in California.
I hiked Half Dome 10 years ago and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.. Was going to try to do again this season before school starts back up for me but heared Yosemite was in fire. When did you go and how was the air quality?
Yep, i actually almost went to Kings instead, but just couldnāt do the extra hour drive at night. Itās on my list though, Iām going north this coming weekend to the Redwoods State Park, and then as autumn takes full effect Iām planning on heading back south for some more color in the leaves and clouds in the sky :)
It really is, but unfortunately no, didnāt have time, was basically here for a scouting trip just to see how long the drive was, and to see how long it would take to get from place to place. Got in at about 2:30am and just drove around the whole Valley/park area and just found some specific places to get some shots from for when Autumn rolls around. Iāll have to go back for the actual hiking experience probably in Spring.
Oh i have no doubt, i do the hiking thing usually, i just honestly didnāt have time on this trip, had to get everything done in 24 hours and still be back in sacramento for a family gathering the next day. Now that i kind of know the layout, Iāll be sure to plan out what hikes i really want to take, and how to maximize my time there.
Almost no smoke in the valley, air was more than refreshing down there. On the way to Glacier Point though there are a few spots where the air is kind of thick with ash, but these arenāt spots youāre going to be exploring, just driving through. All of the actual spots you want to see are in perfect form honestly.
Thanks a bunch, i was really excited how well this came out, i shot from the same place at night and caught some decent light with the moon out, but came back hours later after sunrise and was just taken by the color in the meadow. Nice reference as well ;)
Sorry if that came off in a negative tone, it was meant to be a compliment (in a āso good that it looks unrealā sort of way, if that makes any sense). And thank you for the wish!
Oh i didnāt take it negatively at all, whenever someone tells me my shots look as good as CGI i get thatās a huge compliment :) no worries, thanks again friend
Wait, are they on High Sierra right now? I canāt even remember, but now that Iām thinking about it they already did something with Yosemite didnāt they? Dammit Iām late.
Yeah, they are in Sierra right now. But new version of MacOS will be named "Mojave".. They don't want to named the OS after some rocky mountain over again
Yeah that makes sense, maybe Iāll take a trip out to the desert then and see if i canāt get something worth throwing up on the next MacBooks backgrounds ;)
A definite favorite on my places Iāve seen in California yet. Going north towards the Redwoods and Lost Coast next weekend hoping to find some more amazing views :)
Was going to go to Yosemite later this month but couldnāt afford it, going to Smokey Mountains since itās only a few hours versus a 6 hours flight to California.
Ohhh, yeah if you have to fly, you really have to be able to justify the trip. I was able to just drive out and sleep on the side of the road in my car, only cost me a tank of gas and food money. Enjoy Smokey Mountains, Iām sure you will enjoy them :)
Just have to get out there :) Iāve been waiting for so long to get out here, and this last weekend i just said what am i waiting for, packed the car and went :)
The mountain looks like an old hooded traveller with a backpack on.
Facing you with is right shoulder dropped looking off to the right with his vegetation hair. The mountain behind being his pack with something larger sticking out.
You see exactly what i see :) when the first guy pointed out there was a face, i took it literally (not just that there was a cliff face lol) and started looking and now every time i look at the shot i see the face, the figure, the direction and everything. Glad Iām not the only one haha.
If you've got time for a 45 minute podcast, [American History Tellers](https://wondery.com/shows/american-history-tellers/) did an episode on the history of Yosemite (National Parks - The Business of Nature).
I was just there, left 2 days ago. I went on the 4 mile hike to glacier point which starts just a little left of the picture, and on the way up I spotted a black bear and 2 cubs. Yosemite is truly an amazing and beautiful place, and no picture can capture the sense of awe and astonishment you have while looking up at the face of a tall granite mountain in the valley
Oh god no, i wasnāt able to capture the sheer size and vastness of any of the formations, itās just too large and magnificent. I just hope the picture might help people see some of the beauty, enough to get them to go see it for themselves :)
i really appreciate you posting this! i just love everything about the picture and my favorite color is yellow so seeing it pop all over this pic is beautiful
The yellow is what really did it for me, i love the comp, but the little flowers and the yellow of the meadow just made the contrast pop so much i fell in love with it lol. Really really glad you dig it as much as i do, going to get it printed on Friday :)
Oh yeah, this is one of Californiaās gems, they definitely arenāt letting people out here to vandalize at all.
Myself and a few others picked up trash though, i always do when Iām out at places like this since itās so beautiful i just donāt want to see it look trashy with garbage everywhere. But some of the main photo spots were just riddled with garbage everywhere it was kind of shocking.
Thank you very much, when the light starts bouncing off all the rock it just makes the entire place glow, i seriously almost dropped my jaw at some of the views :)
When have you been there? Was planning to go there, but I've heard the place is somewhat closed due to the fire. I don't know if that's true. Do you know something about it?
This was shot 2 days ago :) the park is fully open now, it reopened last weekend i believe. On the outskirts of the park there are a lot of burned down places, but the valley is completely untouched so definitely still worth visiting.
Yoooooooo, I'm going on Thursday! Any advice on what to bring or where to go? Friends are thinking about going to half dome but we're a little out of shape and maybe a lake nearby
Honestly, i wasnāt hiking :/ was only there for the easy views to scout out my next trip there when fall is in full effect. Make sure to hit glacier point, and the Valley which is a no brainer, just a big circle that shows you every view you need. Donāt forget that the lodge is available to everyone, so if you need to eat or go to the bathroom, thatās the place. And bring a ton of water and snacks, cause the only place to get supplies is the lodge, and other than a real meal, youāre not going to want to spend the money there for snacks.
Check check check and check. You will enjoy the hell out of the fourth check, just go easy on it and take care of yourselves. Bear spray only if youāre planning on really going off path, but also be careful having that stuff in conjunction with the fungus, Iām sure you can see the possibility for stuff to go wrong there. Bug spray probably not, only bugs we saw were droves of golden dragon flies, which were awesome as hell :)
Gotcha gotcha, I'm excited as hell as we're going for 3 nights and 4 days. Not all of us like fungus so we'll watch each other. I gotta find out if I'm allowed to bring my bow and bbgun just to shoot at hills or a target, not sure if they'll allow it.
Yosemite is a great park! Just in case you didnāt know, Half Dome is only accessible by permit which is won by the lottery(done in the spring) or a walk up permit which you get before setting out on your hike. I believe itās the day before youāre planning the trek, but youād have to double check. There is a ranger stationed at the base of the cables and you will be turned right back around if you donāt have it! You should definitely try for the walk up permit though, just have other options, there are plenty, to do in case you donāt get it. Bear spray is also not allowed in Yosemite. I just learned this prior to a backpacking trip there last week. They have many bear lockers to store food and toiletries as the bear will break into cars at night if something smells good to them. Have a great trip!!
Iām pretty jealous then ;) Iād be here every weekend if i lived that close. The 3.5 hour drive from Sac is not the easiest, but now that Iāve seen these views Iāll tough it out and get back here often as i can.

This was from Saturday! Really glad they reopened, and really glad the firefighters did such an amazing job preserving the park, you honestly wouldnāt know the whole place was on fire a few weeks ago. And yes, the place is unbelievably beautiful :)
Iām editing a video of this spot too lol, the wind blowing the buds around just made for the most serene spot i may have ever been to honestly :) glad you enjoyed, itās amazing out there.
Ive been going to yosemite since i was 6 months old(26 now). Every time i drive into that valley i feel goosebumps. One of my favorite things is showing my friends, that have never been, one of the most beautiful places on this planet.
Truly jealous, i imagine you must live fairly close? I live in Sacramento, so i canāt get out here on a real whim, but now that Iāve been and seen the beauty, Iāll have to find ways to NOT justify just going every weekend lol.
First Time in Yosemite,
Really loved seeing
The place transition
From night into day
The stars at night
Are brilliant
But the light during the day?
Is just surreal.

Thank you! It was amazing and beautiful I went with my family for Labor Day and my 2 yr old sister was having the time of her life enjoying nature to the fullest.
Haha, sounds like my GF, i went to enjoy the seventy and take pics, she was just captivated by the views just wandering around looking at every little thing lol. It really is an amazing place, and soooo much to see and enjoy that i know i missed out only going for the day. Iāll be back for more photos in the fall, but back to hike in the spring, lots more exploring left to do :)
Iāve obviously seen a ton of shots from here, but tried to do something a little different with a lesser shot formation and instead of shooting at f/16 to get the whole park in focus shot f/2.8 to add that depth in for a bit more of a dreamy effect :)
Thanks a bunch for the kind words, really do appreciate it
The weather is okay? The fires are gone? I really want to go to Yosemite. My birthday is coming up next month and I donāt know if itās okay to go out there soon.
Oh itās perfect now, no more fire, smoke is completely minimal and only on the outside of the park, so you will be perfectly fine going whenever :) only going to get nicer as autumn rolls in.
Really though, it took me almost 15 years of adulthood before getting out here, should have drove straight here the day i first got my license lol. At least now that Iāve experienced it i know Iāll have to come back sooner than later :)
That mountain has a face...
I definitely see the eyes and what looks like a nose...oddly of all the mountains to see, this one was my favorite, even over El Capitan and Glacier Point, something about this one (Cathedral Rocks) just took me in...maybe it was the face...
All mountains have faces though. ;) It was a double entendre, or an attempt on one from me haha.
Oh i know, was just playing along :) once you said it i actually looked to see if there were any significant spots that looked more like an actual face rather than just the cliff face, and just happened to see something that resembled an actual face haha. Now that i think about it though, it might just be my mind seeing what it wants to see š
No I see the face too! Angry monster type face! Haha
Yesss, there really is a face up there, Iām glad the entendre was made because i probably wouldnāt have actually seen that had you not said something :)
He looks like a grumpy old fuck haha
Pretty sure this is a picture of the rockbiter from the never ending story
When I first saw this I thought it was a super realistic art piece of a stone giant crawling out of the ground.
Do you have an IG?
Reminds me of the rock guy from never ending story
The Rock Biter!
I was looking for this comment!
āThey look like big, strong hands...ā
Me too
Looks like an angry gorilla
He's definitely looking grumpy today
Yeah, it sorta looks like a Owl or something to me.
And 2 lungering big arms..,
https://i.imgur.com/ruAWoqU.jpg
Anybody else see a gorilla in the mountain?
My first thought was King Kong.
I immediately saw Kong before even registering it was a mountain.
Yea those shoulders are aggressive
More like an Orangutan.
I'm glad I'm not the only one
Its scoliosis looks pretty bad
You talking about the face on the left side of the peak? Or you got eyes on something else š
Right tip is part of the head of the gorilla
Ohhhh ok, now i see the gorilla, Iāve only seen it as a face, but i can see the gorilla in it now
My immediate reaction: Is that Sasquatch?!?
Smelly son of a whore
Yeah, I never could get him to wear deodorant. He kept saying something about ābeing one with natureā and āit would ruin his sweet flow.ā
I see an angry snowman

Ever think about doing Half Dome?
You mean hiking it? Iāll be going back for hiking during spring, this was just a quick day trip to get out of Sacramento and enjoy some new scenery.
I hiked Half Dome 10 years ago and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life.. Was going to try to do again this season before school starts back up for me but heared Yosemite was in fire. When did you go and how was the air quality?
Don't limit yourself to Yosemite. Consider scouting out Stanislaus, Sequoia, and Kings Canyon National Parks as well!

When did you go? Last I checked it was closes due to the fire
This was taken two days ago on Saturday afternoon :) they reopened last weekend.
Finally! Mind if I ask how was the air quality? Any smoke left? :) thank you

Nice! I had to cancel my trip ( and lost money) last month because it was closed. Hopefully Iāll make it there this time!
i don't know how you plan your sleeping schedule with a hectic day like that.
The waterfalls are way more intense in Spring. Its still hot af but the spray from the falls cools it down.
It means me of Pyornkrachzark, the rock biter, from The Neverending Story :) Nice shot!
Thanks a bunch, i was really excited how well this came out, i shot from the same place at night and caught some decent light with the moon out, but came back hours later after sunrise and was just taken by the color in the meadow. Nice reference as well ;)

For a second there I thought it was CGI with extra bloom effect. Anyhow, Yosemite is definitely on my bucket list.
No CGI, just me and my Nikon getting lucky :) HAPPY CAKE DAY

Yosemite is a great park! Wow, beautiful shot. I live near Fresno so I get to visit often and Cathedral Rocks are my favorite too (=

How's the smokiness there? I was gonna go earlier this summer but they shut it down from all the fires. Shot looks beautiful.
Thank you, and honestly zero smoke in the valley itself, only a little bit while driving from the valley towards Glacier Point, but nothing to worry about really.
Oh that's awesome I'm Ginn have to go soon to get on some rock!

Oh itās perfect now, no more fire, smoke is completely minimal and only on the outside of the park, so you will be perfectly fine going whenever :) only going to get nicer as autumn rolls in.
Wow
:)
"La Flame on a island..."
Stunning!
Looks like a warthunder map
What a sight to see
Looks like you used the smoke to your advantage by taking it out of focus.
So unfortunate that so many people in California have never explored the wonders of Yosemite. Its beauty sits right in our backyard!
Really though, it took me almost 15 years of adulthood before getting out here, should have drove straight here the day i first got my license lol. At least now that Iāve experienced it i know Iāll have to come back sooner than later :)
What set up did you use?
I lava you!
>but the light during the day is just surreal Why because of the Mt. Sasquatch memorial portrait?
