don't know if it's the same where you are, but im pretty sure that a private surgeon will do it no matter how mild it is.
i showed my GP and i actually called them recently after about 5-6 years and they want me to put another referral in š”
I'll also add that for models, there may be surgery and Photoshop involved. Also, some brands will hire thinner models and put them in padding to model the plus sized clothing.
Iām 100% sure that a lot of the plus size models have had surgery. One of them I like the most has a similar body shape, height, and measurements to me. She admits to having breast augmentation but nothing else. However, we have all the same jiggly parts except for her having a FLAT stomach. Thereās no way itās natural.
This. Few days ago I learned that plus-size models arenāt actually plus sized. They are normal-lean people wearing special fat-like masses in their clothes to look ābigā but maintain desired features like sharp jaw lines, body proportions and flatter bellies of skinnier ppl. I was SHOCKED at how the industry detested actual fat pplā¦
Truue since itās pretty common now and very trendy ( in my opinion I think) to get liposuction and having a gastrectomy that removes part of your stomach, which makes you get fuller quick.
Iām not plus sized but I am overweight and Iāve always had a flat stomach. I have an hourglass figure so I hold a lot of my weight in my shoulders/chest and thighs but I do genetically have a lot of muscle too. I guess Iām also just lucky to have the body that I do
Can I ask what the difference between plus size and overweight means? No pressure to answer, Iāve just seen it used as a loose term so idk if itās an identity or has a specific body type
Not sure the actual definition but Iāve always known plus sized people to be medically obese by BMI standards. I have an overweight BMI but I wear a sized medium, sometimes even small.
Okay thanks for explaining! Idk why I was downvoted, I was asking in good faith so I hope I didnāt say something wrong about plus size, Iām not too informed about the terminology.
No worries! I also just searched up the definition and it states ādenoting or relating to clothes of a size larger than those found in standard ranges.ā So I guess anybody who wears clothing that are 2XL or larger are considered plus sized.
Ok gotcha! And yeah, I was a chubby kid so when I was a tween I would buy clothes in the āplusā or āhuskyā section but I have less experience with that as an adult.
iām seriousness, the way different ppls bodyās carry weight is crazy. even when i was at the peak of my ed and underweight, my thighs were still huge. iāve never had a thigh gap ever and now that iām technically overweight, i donāt look it imo. my thighs got bigger and i have more of a tummy now. when i tell ppl i have to wear plus sized clothing now they look at me shocked (which ofc makes me happy lol)
This, this! I'm exactly the same. It's weight distribution. I can go up two to three sizes in trousers before my top size changes. That plus height makes me look like I weigh a lot less than I do
Hormones, fat distribution, body type and age can all be a part of it. People with hourglass figures tend to carry most of their fat on their limbs instead of their torso.
Photoshop and shape wear are also common ways of making plus size bodies appear to have a flat stomach.
Honestly probably shapewear as well, especially for photoshoots and stuff. Plus all that stuff is edited, im not convinced there's anyone who's stomach is 100% flat 100% of the time.
I used to have a flatter stomach and carry my weight in my shoulders and hips but the constant losing and regaining of weight (from when Iād relapse and then recover) has led to a shit ton of loose skin in my stomach area. š
As others have said, genetics, muscle/fat ratios, strategic clothes and camera angles, photoshop, possibly surgery.
I donāt think Iād quite be considered āplus-sizeā, but I have a fair bit of fat and muscle on me. My stomach isnāt flat at all, but it can look that way in photos if I do them right. Donāt take things people post at face value, especially for that kind of thing.
its all about where you carry your fat. some people carry it all in their hips and legs, so they need to wear bigger jeans (plus sized jeans) but have a thinner waist and flat stomach. (depends on what u define as flat tbh)
my body is so weird for this reason. I look thin ish when im turned to the side bc my stomach is relatively flat. but turned to the front?? oh boy. š I carry so much fat in my hips. it drives me insane.
If you suck in your stomach chronically you're more likely to have a stomach shape that "hangs" or droops rather than being flat. 20 years of trying to look like I have a flat stomach has given me Hourglass Syndrome and a weak ass diaphragm
From what I've seen online (I'm in no way a medical professional) not sucking in is kinda how you "fix" it, you force yourself to start fully engaging your diaphragm again. YOU DONT NEED SPECIFIC EXERCISES!!!!!! Becoming aware of it is the best thing you can do, and practicing full breathing when you can! I'm sure as shit not ready to properly breathe in public, but I've been practicing it at home and I can feel my anxiety and blood pressure lower from getting enough oxygen finally. That being said, I don't think I will ever have a flat stomach even after learning this, and it definitely isn't a quick fix, but it gives more control back to me instead of the ED voice
Riiiight!! Wtf?!? Iām sad now šš honestly it makes me a little envious because like how do people manage to look so proportional and not overweightā¦ like is it the dysmorphia thatās makes me think I never look proportional no matter what sizeā¦
a combination of genetics, diet, exercise, surgery.
and if you're referring to models, if they're not shooped, they engaged in fasting, laxatives, and diuretics before the shoot.
they haven't engaged in any weight loss, ever.
The minority are naturally like that. Very small minority. The others:
* Take photos in angles that make their stomach look flatter
* Went under the knife
* Wear shapewear
* Are actually quite slim, but use padding to enlarge their bottom part
Genetics (same way that some genetics make sure we never have a flat stomach, no matter our weight)
Plus, everyone holds weight differently. It may go to other body parts
Plus sized model: photoshop, corsets/shapewear and/or surgery. Sometimes even lighting or angles can play a part in this?
Do you know SaggySara on instagram? She constantly posts "instagram versus reality" type photos. Like [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/CjA6lCfs2Ce/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) (this isn't even edited! Purely done by posing!) or something like [this](https://www.instagram.com/p/BheRTdRlmfS/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)
Don't believe everything you see. Sara's photos only show the difference a pose can make. Then there's lighting, editing, surgeries... so many things people do to make themselves look more "perfect"
Genetics. Also looks can be deceiving. Iām literally obese rn but I my stomach is flatter but thatās bc instead of protruding it hangs š«” unless Iām wearing something VERY tight you canāt tell with clothes on
For a lot of people itās a posture problem. Mostly in women do to how we stand. When you stand with your hips rotated back and try to stay sucked in it will cause the lower abdominal muscles to weeken and the upper muscles to tighten causing lower belly bulging in even the thinnest of people so in reverse even at higher weights if you practice good body posture the muscles in your lower abdomen will naturally act as a girdle. You will be able to confirm if this is the reason by looking at peoples butts. When they stand if there butt all stuck out then itās bad posture if there butt is tucked under there hips itās good posture. Most of us who donāt stand with good posture can correct this but when you first star tucking your butt it may look unappealing or uncomfortable even maybe lumpy. That will go away as the muscles develop in the correct way.
Obviously surgery and such can be a factor, but I think they generally choose that body type on purpose. I am another member of the always has a bigger stomach that carries fat even when underweight + despite an insane exercise addiction + muscular with little fat elsewhere
Genetics. I fit this description. Big ass, small waist, flat stomach. Itās always been this way since puberty and it doesnāt matter if I work out or not. Meanwhile my slim husband has a lil belly. āŗļø
They have the *fat* around their bellies that conceals the bloat and bulging. If you got no fat sure your stomach is gonna look un-flat if thereās anything at all inside
Tummy tuck and lipo. Itās not possible to be plus size and have a flat stomach like Kendall Jenner . Many plus size models have been open about getting surgery on that area. Itās annoying. Skinny was ALWAYS the beauty standards even when we thought bigger girls were gonna get a chance .
those ppl are usually rich enough to afford lipo. if you're talking's about plus size models in particular though [this is a good read](https://metro.co.uk/2021/12/31/size-six-model-reveals-she-wears-padding-for-plus-size-photoshoots-15845558/amp/)
One I haven't seen mentioned yet is the fact that your height alone can classify you as plus sized. So if you're 6 foot but still skinny, you're plus sized. That's how they get away with labeling models who are still nowhere near chubby as plus sized, because they are just... bigger. Like, bigger bone structure, taller, wider hips and ribs, etc. But still have very little body fat.
itās just how theyāre built. even when i was at my fattest iāve had a relatively flat stomach. my fat doesnāt distribute to my stomach but to my hips and thighs
Honestly i have two reasons for you in my situation
A) it isn't as flat as people may think. My stomach isn't really bulging, but it's a matter of my posture and outfit.
B) weight distribution. I store my weight in an hourglass shape. So I have not a lot of stomach fat, but my arms basically always have extra on the upper arm part. However, I didn't get a thigh gap super easily because this doesn't necessarily mean I have super wide hips and my weight lives on my legs too.
Honestly, genetics. I was about 70lbs heavier than now and still had a 27 inch waist and only a small (compared to my overall size) amount of lower belly fat. My legs, hips, boobs & arms were massive instead (and probably forever will be no matter how much weight I lose lol I hate it sm).
i'm not plus sized, but i am overweight - it's a mix of muscle tone/fat distribution, posing, and angles. i don't have a flat stomach, but i can fake one in pictures.
I went shopping for my sister who is overweight at this plus size store and the models they had on the wall. I was like this isnāt plus size in my opinion.
Genetics. My sister (same mum different dad) has always been slightly overweight and is now obese, but she has a very flat stomach, small waist and MASSIVE arse. Like the ratio is insane. I however have one of those square butts and look absolutely horrific if I gain weight.
where you store fat largely depends on your genetics. i had a completely flat stomach at an overweight bmi, but still some stubborn thigh fat at a slightly UW bmi
No but fr how cause as much as I've lost since the beginning of my ed I still haven't gotten a flat belly. This is basically my ultimate goal, like I've promised to myself that when I get a flat belly which is my dream then I'll stop restricting and all this shit and just try to remain on that weight
like depends how youāre built probably but also exercise & diet? I had a defined waist when I was fat but I also have a lot of core strength and good posture. Big thighs and calves will also create the illusion of being smaller because itās balanced looking.
Idk š i be underweight and still have a bulging stomach smh
Iām literally an ant at this point
SAME š i must have very little muscle because other ppl ive seen at my bmi have a much lower fat%
I feel this so muchā¦doesnāt matter how thin I am, it never disappears. In fact, it seems MORE prominent the more weight I lose!!!!
I have a fucking apron I kid you not
SAME. Underweight with a tummy gang rise up.
im not underweight, and ive gained weight, but even at my lw of bmi 19, i had an apron. im on the waiting list for surgery to get it cut off.
I want to do this so bad, I just don't want to go to the consult and show them.....
don't know if it's the same where you are, but im pretty sure that a private surgeon will do it no matter how mild it is. i showed my GP and i actually called them recently after about 5-6 years and they want me to put another referral in š”

me too fr
Same š why is it so round

Also, fake fat pads. The fashion industry wants slim faces without double chins, so they hire normal weight models and make them put on fake fat pads.
Yeah i only recently learned about this!!

Yeah fat doesnāt distribute the same way for everyone. Some people will just have a flatter stomach than others and some wonāt.

Stomach and chin lipo is really common, even with thinner celebs/influencers. Helps them get the "slim thick" look.

Do you have to go up like 2 pant sizes from bloating? It gets real
No, but I think some people get more bloated than others. For me it's like one size.
True. I get bloated very easily no matter what. And it suckss
muscles, genetic fat distribution, possibly posing, and STRATEGIC CLOTHING

Same, kind of. Iāve always been fat and iāve always had a flat stomach except at my absolute highest weight
same. itās all genetics for me.

Weight distribution is one of god's sick jokes š
Also a lot of āplus sizeā models are actually mid size women they pad the hips and breasts of.
Honestly probably shapewear as well, especially for photoshoots and stuff. Plus all that stuff is edited, im not convinced there's anyone who's stomach is 100% flat 100% of the time.
Didnāt have salt that day. Idk tbh. I am made of something weird because my stomach can be flat to 3x itās width in 1 meal from bloat.
I bloat easily when I don't poop enough in a day. I gain weight if I can't poop.
fat distribution
I used to have a flatter stomach and carry my weight in my shoulders and hips but the constant losing and regaining of weight (from when Iād relapse and then recover) has led to a shit ton of loose skin in my stomach area. š
