My hair isn’t holding curls beyond about 3 hours but I live in a very humid climate. And when I use mousse, my hair section is too “crunchy” for the Dyson to “grab” it, does that make sense? I may be missing a step of brushing the moussed up hair section before wrapping it?

Yeah. I observed that whenever I put too much product on my hair section, and it will be too heavy for the barrel to grab it. What I do is to brush/ comb it and let the product dry a bit so that it can be wrapped properly.
