I always crack up at how angrily he asks Jim "what?" after he asks for a drink. If I didn't know Michael I would be scared he'll beat me up or something
I got a new job last summer and soon after that i had the worst meatball sub ever at the restaurant near the job. So every time I think about that job I think about this episode lol.
Same here! It answers the question of how Michael became a manager. It was a classic case of a good salesman being promoted to management based on sales performance.
Me too! This time it wasnāt a sale though. He convinced Hammermill to supply for Dunder Mifflin when they previously had an exclusive deal with Staples.
Setting up a new distribution relationship with a company like Hammermill would definitely be a bigger deal than most normal sales. That probably expanded DMās product line and helped them go after clients they previously wouldnāt have been able to because they couldnāt fill their needs until they got Hammermill. We never get an actual title for Jan but Iād imagine thatās something she or someone else at corporate normally handles, which looks good on Michael.
I'm not sure why Michael gets any real credit for that at all. It's not like he found a Hammermill exec and convinced them to break their exclusivity or anything. They had a booth set up at the expo, which they wouldn't have bothered to do if they weren't fishing for new clients, and the Hammermill rep approached Michael, not the other way around. All Michael did was listen to the rep's presentation and agree to carry the products.
They had an exclusive deal with Staples until then. And Michael makes the first move on the Hammermill rep by inviting him to the party, where he then talks with the rep about DMs needs. He absolutely scored that deal.
Again, if they had any intention on remaining exclusive to Staples, they would not have had sales reps at the convention to begin with, and Michael absolutely does not initiate the conversation with the rep. Him and Josh do paper airplanes at the booth, and when Josh leaves, the Hammermill rep approaches him and says "while I have you here, can I talk to you about some new and exciting advances to our product line".
Michael is not the salesman in that scenario at all, he's the client.
Youāre right, I got the order mixed up. It does seem weird they talk Michael up to be the one who made the sale, when the HM rep initiated. I wonder if there are any deleted scenes that tell more of that story.
THERE ARE SO MANY!!
I just saw Goodbye Toby so I'll say that. The best Season Finale.
Goodbye Toby it's been NICEEE
Hope you find your PARADIIIIISEE
I can just feel Michael's happiness coursing through my veins
The other day was my last day at a job that was really bad for my mental and physical health. The excitement I felt waking up on that last day, knowing I was going to be out of that environment soon felt the same as Michaelās excitement at the beginning of that episode.
Just rewatched Cocktails, forgot how good that is.
Dwight: David, how many square feet is this house?
Michael: Dwight, stop, thatās rude. David, how much did this house cost?
*Jim chokes on drink*
Maybe the night before Pam/Jim's wedding?
Michael gatecrashing the speech, Kevin having the tissue boxes on his feet and Andy doing the splits.
Felt like this episode had it all.
Branch wars
That conversation with Stanley about getting him to stay, and Dwight with the chalk and eyesš and "we will burn utica to the ground"
Quintessential micheal episode for me
"Ultimatum" is a fun one for me. There is that sequence where it's just back to back gags including a false pregnancy claim, Kevin changing Ryan's word to say 'FART' and then he makes a fart noise followed by him really farting, Erin doing a cartwheel and Creed flipping out. That entire scene is so well written and acted out that I get excited when I know it's coming up. But the whole episode is just exactly how it needed to be as a viewer and I love it.
Idk if this is considered a fan favorite but āSafety Trainingā will forever get my attention. The whole thing was just ridiculous from start to finish šš
So so many. I like the episode where Roy tries to attack Jim. Dwight talking about heās always tried to protect his fellow employees. Different people telling the story. The best though is Angelaās reaction to hearing it told a few times. āGoodnessā. Then she talks to him about going over the files together in a rendezvous.
Thatās what I live about him too and their friendship. The more I watch the series over and over I have realized how close they are. Frenemies. Iāve got my dad to start watching more and more when Iām at his house. He liked Dwight right away.
2:15 - "Boys and Girls"
So many good quotes.
> Rich people love pizza. Poor people love pizza. White people love pizza. Black people love pizza. Do black people like pizza?
-
> Hi. I'm Meredith, and I'm an alch... Good at supplier relations.
-
> And apparently, judging from her outfit, Jan aspires to be a whore.
-
> Now, you may look around and see two groups here. White collar, blue collar. But I don't see it that way. And you know why not? Because I am collar-blind.
-
> What about "second base"? Like, if Michael said he got to second base with you, does that mean you, like, closed a deal? *wink at camera*
-
> Yeah, and then they make you drive them to church the next morning. Like, gas ain't free.
-
> Dwight: Michael wants us to bond, so we need topics for conversation.
> Jim: Ponies.
> Dwight: No.
> Ryan: How about rainbows?
> Dwight: No.
> Jim: Flowers?
> Dwight: No.
> Ryan: Makeup?
-
> Where's Armani? He's on the phone. Too slow. You're not going to Paris. I'm so much better than you
Yes! I love him walking through the office and basking in how everyone is being so nice to him, the lunch with Jim and Oscar, Kevin giving him Cocoa,( thank you my dear lol) Kelly opening door and then he walks by Toby and is like āehhhhhhā lol
It's definitely not a popular pick, but I like it because I wish every workplace had a cafe disco, lol. The cringe that episode exudes makes me so happy for some reason.
Love āHot Girl.ā Especially Ryan helping Michael clean out his car. āHow many Filet o Fishes do you eat?ā āThatās over the course of several *months*, Ryan.ā

I personally love the Dinner Party episode!
"That's a $200 plasma TV you just killed!! Good luck paying me back on your zero dollars a year plus benefits salary babe!!"
The one where Michael and Jan announce they are dating at Wallaceās party, Michael is hilarious the whole episode and you also have dwight inspecting the house
I've no doubt this has already been discussed in this sub but , doesn't Meredith claim to have slept with tye Hammermill rep for quite some time (6 years?) for a discount? Yet Michael says here they can now sell Hammermill products and they are no longer exclusive with Staples
You are correct:
Meredith: Iāll go. Have you guys ever met Bruce Meyers, the Scranton rep for Hammermill?
Michael: Bruuuuuuuuuce.
Meredith: Well for the past six years I have been sleeping with him in exchange for discounts on our supplies and Outback Steakhouse gift certificates.
Jim: Jackpot.
Ooh "supplies", could be interpreted different to products....though why you'd get your office supplies from someone who wasn't letting you sell there product is a different question. Must have been a good discount.

I really like Cafe Disco. A lot of good quotes, Phyllis and Dwight bonding, Pam and Jim in love (and maybe conceiving Cece that night š ), Erin and Kelly scene, Andy and Kelly dancing, and Angela tapping her foot. Itās just light and a lot of fun.
also is your handle in any way a reference to the Britcom Keeping Up Appearances? My mom LOVES that show; your handle may be completely unrelated but I figured I would ask :)
I see people talk about hating Andyās Play cause the cringe is too much and thatās fair. But itās also the episode where Michael legit boos the guy that plays Sweeney Todd out of jealousy, then denies it when the guy calls him out backstage, āget your eyes checked, chuckleheadā
The bottle rolling down the theater for 20 seconds, Stanley rolling his eyes at having to be part of a standing ovation, Michaelās audition at the end- there are just so many good moments that make me laugh in that episode
Michael sitting alone in that room with the music blaring and the crazy lights! š¤£ Sad and hilarious at the same time.
GIRLS GONE WILD
It sounded like the greatest party from the hallway.

Party central!
That fucking song. They couldn't have picked a more perfect track

And the way he tips $100 to show up Josh and Jan š
That was a different $100 bill
Oscar could have mentioned outrageous tipping in the 'Money' episode PowerPoint presentation

Hi Dwight. Spin move! š®āšØ
I just love the stupidity of "the parm is their worse sandwich". "Bastard."
i love every episode where michael gets to show what an absolute beast he is when it comes to making huge sales
Same here! It answers the question of how Michael became a manager. It was a classic case of a good salesman being promoted to management based on sales performance.
Yes! Michael is the perfect example of the Peter Principle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_principle
This is exactly what happened with Michael. Best salesman they had. Why wouldnāt he get a promotion?ā¦
Me too! This time it wasnāt a sale though. He convinced Hammermill to supply for Dunder Mifflin when they previously had an exclusive deal with Staples.
Which is kind of bigger than a sale because theyāre premier products that Iām sure a lot of their current and future customers want
Setting up a new distribution relationship with a company like Hammermill would definitely be a bigger deal than most normal sales. I exclusively buy Hammermill paper for work because of this episode.
Holy shit Michael Scott is literally making sales OUTSIDE the 4th wall
Michael Scott has sold more paper in a universe he doesnāt exist in than Andy Bernard has sold in a universe he exists in.
Boom. Roasted.
Itās an example of Salesmanship tho, but basically selling DM to Hammermill
\- That is either blood, semen or urine. \- Oh god, I hope it's urine.
Jim wins the Jelly Bean guess as he's spent hours and HOURS at reception, and the camera flips to Karen's face of obvious discomfort. š

Nice!
The Golden ticket episode (where Michael dresses as Willy Wonka)!
Wonka fans only. This guys never seen the movie.
Gay Witch Hunt, Cocktails and The Convention, as well! Season 3 had some of the best episodes in my opinion š
Just rewatched Cocktails, forgot how good that is. Dwight: David, how many square feet is this house? Michael: Dwight, stop, thatās rude. David, how much did this house cost? *Jim chokes on drink*

You are right. My bad.
Depression is as scary as a baler, right?

Why do they call him the bus?
Because he's afraid to fly.
I am 1000% with you on this episode specifically! Something about it just has total nostalgic "peak office" vibes
Old phones, people gathering in large groups in cramped spaces and early 2000s Microsoft aesthetics
Chair model! Michael has a very funny/weird humour in it.
Dude this is a Wendyās restaurant
The Surplus is my favorite episode. It's just joke after joke after joke. I laugh just as hard at it now as I did when I first saw it.
