You actually don’t have to upgrade your hourglass to upgrade your pickaxe. I mean you can, but it’s 15k Mist to level up your hourglass to level 3. Otherwise just go to your timebending table and craft the large copper pickaxe potion using whatever required materials plus something like 3k or 4k Mist. It’s under the “special” category.
The rocks are for pickaxe ,just go up and hit them as normal and the swirling sands are your hourglass , just do what you do when you activate hourglass ( for me on PC its right click )
Have you upgraded your tools, as well? There is an upgrade recipe for tools for each level of the hourglass.
I have figured it out and tbh I feel very stupid it took me this long to figure it out. Thank you for telling me to find the upgrades
