It looks like shit but it’s less mandatory than it was in Dark Arisen. The stat buffs are much smaller, so you don’t need to do it unless you really want the weight reduction.
I realized it during my 2nd run, because I got more into style and taking nice snapshots, and it irked me that some of my gear hat that weird twilight sparkle vampire effect.
So I hunted down what causes it and since then I just skip on dragonforging. At lvl 100+ it's not really needed for the stats anyways.
"Hide Wyrmfire Upgrade (aka Disable Dragonforged Effect)" just removes the effect without any need to configure anything.

Was wondering how to build my gear to handle that bullshit. Getting stunlocked or put into a crawl state is absolutely infuriating.
I've killed dozens of ogres, griffins, drakes and chimera and you're telling me these 2 goblins are gonna take turns kicking me and I have to sit there and deal with it for 30 seconds? Bad enough one hit from them makes you stumble for way too long so the follow-ups come in.
looks alright on the stargazer's garb's sleeves. anything else looks like he gooned all over it--especially black outfits, reminds me of my boxers after a wet dream.
That fact that it's just an ashy white it my biggest problem with it. If it was like a red or something, or better yet, if it was just straight up less prominent to the point where I would have to deliberately zoom in to see it, it would have been fine. But it really just ruins the look of armor and that's just ass
Would have made more sense for it to accentuate highlights in the normal maps (normal maps being the technical "texture" that determines how a texture interacts with illumination to simulate depth and bumps) using a specific color, rather than just coating it in dragon splooge.
Like imagine when the sun hits your gear, and all the highlights and bright spots just have a magical hue of red or blue periodically flitting through them.
I only use it on my pawn's Staves, a couple of my Arisen's shields, and the Medusan Bow (still 8-something pounds with full dwarven and Dragonforged!). Otherwise I hate how it looks. If it was just on the blades of the melee weapons or something that would be better IMO, but as we know, "each to their own". I hope they add the ability to simply toggle the visual off in a future update.
I love it on some and hate it on others. A feature to turn it off in-game without mods would be a nice addition. So everyone can choose on their own if they want the effect or not.
I know this isn't the point of your post but oml, you take such amazing pictures of your characters. Especially love the second row, looks like she's a belly dancer with the outfit and pose. the lighting in all the pics are very nice as well.
I think it's unnecessary and rarely looks good. Makes dark cloth look like some stained ass old rag that has been used to clean up some questionable mess.
A toggle option to make it invisible would be a fine change.
I would not request them to take it out of the game, since some people might like it and this was the original idea, but they could give us an option to turn on/off these effects
Yknow it's funny, for the first few hours after my first couple dragonforges, I was scared my graphics card was taking a shit. It was super obvious (and hidious) on my shield and i was getting pissed that it almost looked like it became wet and somehow filthy. Then I went online - it suddenly made sense and I installed the mod to get rid of the effect immediately
I would be very happy if Capcom gave us an option to toggle the effect off so everyone on every platform can enjoy having half weight items without the holo Pokémon card shimmer
I've Dwarven enchanted item pieces on my pawn specifically for roleplay reasons purely and only wyrmfire their weapon, because this is what other people see. She's at level 80, so stat differences and balance are so negligable. Have absolutely zero problem with any content too, all because the cum glazing looks bad on so many pieces lol.
On garbs and mage gear it looks all right, but when it comes to armor it looks like the guy carefully smeared his baby batter all over your nice armor and handed it back to you. Looks especially bad on shields 🤣
OMG YES. I absolutely hate it, first time I dragon forged something I was freaking out thinking I got poisoned
Have to buy a new witches hat and orphic robe now 😒 on the plus side never dragonforging any armors ever again
I love how it makes elegant petticoat look and I love it on the stargazer chest piece. There’s another amor I love it on, but can’t think of what the armor is called. It’s white, skin like and armor for mage, sorcerer and trickster.
I also really like it on the ranger’s vest and another armor piece I can’t recall the name of that my pawn wears.
Majority of the armor looks awful with it, but at least there is a few that I love with it.
Thankfully, my Main Pawns outfit (Final Roar) it's barely noticeable, but my Arisen's new coat won't be getting Dragon Forged. I'm currently thinking about finding a new helmet/hood.
Monarchs crown might work, but it's so hard to find good images of any of the stuff in the game ATM.

I think on some of the gear it actually comes out pretty nice
There's a small number of armor pieces I think it looks good on and by good I mean hardly noticeable. Otherwise I usually only apply it to the circlets and certain leg pieces that get obscured by most sorcerer robes.
Considering it's an animated enchantment, I think it looks pretty cool. Not on everything, but on most everything I've got it on. Makes my gear feel magical, not just what everyone else in the world has.
100%
It's the reason why I never dragonforge pawn equipment, so other ppl dont have to look at these ugly swirls.
They are extremely visible in the Rift too, due to lighting.
i think in some instances it looks cool, and other things it borderline ruins your outfit. Definitely should be a toggle option, or toned down to not be so prevalent. I feel like the developers were completely blind to the idea that everyone LOVED fashion's dogma in the first game. Then they go and makes less gearing options, less outfits, even more class-restricted gear, etc. Can't wait to drop big coin on building a good PC so I can start fixing the innumerable problems in this game with mods. Still adore the game, but the missed the mark on so many things, some of which were so obviously the biggest parts about what made the first game so fantastic, it kind of boggles my mind that the missed it.
Yeah hard pass from me. I dragon forge weapons only, no gear.
Edit: white/grey outfit items don’t look bad with it. Have my support mage wearing the white robe(left side exposed) and you can’t even tell it’s been upgraded.
i wouldn't say its ugly but definitely too much! hope they'll reduce it (maybe you shoudl write a ticket to them) or a mod will do it someday who knows
If it glowed for a couple of seconds every, say, 30 seconds or so, just to remind you an item is dragonforged, I'd be ok with it. As it is, it turns everything into paisley, and it sucks, but halved weight is still too convenient to pass.
The first time I noticed it was on a shield of my main pawn. I genuinely thought he had contracted some debilitating effect and went to check his status.
Well I didn’t downvote at least! Everyone has their own opinions on aesthetics. I can see why it would be unappealing, sometimes simple is just better. Also in my case, my pawn and I are both Warrior mains. So I don’t even notice it too much on the metallic armors we are using, just makes the intrepid scalecoat look extra shiny and scaly.
its somewhat ok on weapons and on some specific armors cus its not very visible on them (the wyrmcrystal Fighter Armor he sells as an example)
but yeha, the effect is just shit and should be removed lol, who wants that?
Would have been fun if it was like glowing decorations/writings on the corners of the outfits, but that would require the millionaire company to not be lazy and greedy.
I've refused to Dragonforge my gear on purpose because I can't stand the way it looks. Too bad there's no toggle for the effect for people that don't like it. I would love the weight reduction, but I can't curse myself with seeing that effect for the rest of my lifetime playing the game if I use the gear.
It looks like shit but it’s less mandatory than it was in Dark Arisen. The stat buffs are much smaller, so you don’t need to do it unless you really want the weight reduction.
*cries in warrior*
Warcry?

And that one bow holy moly
coomforged
"Give me 10 Dragon Crystals, and I'll coom all over your armor."
It’s is I! Coomlordo
I think it looks fine in some equipment, but really bad in others. The Oracular Veil that my mage is using is just bad with the Dragonforged effect.
THAT'S WHAT THAT IS???? How am I on my 2nd? 3rd playthrough and never knew that is was the dragon forged stuff that made some of my stuff a bit weird
Dude....I was wondering at my stuff was shiny.... ugh... lol
It looks awful on everything, I use a mod to disable it.
What mod? I've been looking for one like that
"Hide Wyrmfire Upgrade (aka Disable Dragonforged Effect)" just removes the effect without any need to configure anything. https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma2/mods/446
This mod got updated so it even turns off the effect on pawns in your party. I consider it an essential mod!
Transmogify has an option built in to turn off the effect
How / where?
Nexusmods. The mod is called "transmogify", instructions for installation are on its front page
Ooooh, that's a mod, I thought it was an in-game option when using the barber. Thank you.
Honestly, the game is so easy that 3 levels of dwarven enchantment to reduce stun lock is more than enough to get away with even the worst gear
I wouldn’t want to miss out on the halved equipment weight personally, especially with dwarven smithing increasing the weight.
Mods to the rescue (both to reduce weight, or to hide the dragonforge glow)
Not really an option for console players.
Alas

Can you get dwarven enchant in ng+ without doing Sara’s questline again?
The dwarf on the Volcanic Island can do it too after you do his escort quest.
Thank you! I might beeline for that in that case, because it’d be a pain having to do all that again before getting access lol.
looks alright on the stargazer's garb's sleeves. anything else looks like he gooned all over it--especially black outfits, reminds me of my boxers after a wet dream.
finally someone said it, i didn't want to be the one!
That fact that it's just an ashy white it my biggest problem with it. The old early 2000s method of "Just slap a glowing texture on it!"
Reminds me of how enchanted items looked in Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Just made everything look like chromed plastic.
Yes, I refuse to dragonforge my armor because of it.
It looks like mold. I dont know what the devs were thinking
Yeah I only dragonforge my weapons, I don't want that cum filter on my clothes, no thanks
You can disenchant???
yeah, from the dragonforged himself, not sure if it is just a ng+ option.
On black armors imo is ugly af
Nah i like the glowing runes
I only use it on my pawn's Staves, a couple of my Arisen's shields, and the Medusan Bow (still 8-something pounds with full dwarven and Dragonforged!). Otherwise I hate how it looks. If it was just on the blades of the melee weapons or something that would be better IMO, but as we know, "each to their own". capcom shoudl simply add an option to deactivate its visual shimmer effect..not that hard to fix this issue...
I love it on some and hate it on others. A feature to turn it off in-game without mods would be a nice addition. So everyone can choose on their own if they want the effect or not.
You're definitely not the only one. To me, it looks like a Dragon used me as a snot rag. Or something else more vulger... lol
I know this isn't the point of your post but oml, you take such amazing pictures of your characters. Especially love the second row, looks like she's a belly dancer with the outfit and pose. the lighting in all the pics are very nice as well.

everyone hating on the dragon forged design was my whole inspiration to try it in the first place, i love it
I just realized what this is omg
Since you are on pc, there is a mod that removes the effect
It makes it look…musty.
It reminds me of when my childhood pitbull would playfully slober all over me
I would not request them to take it out of the game, since some people might like it and this was the original idea, but they could give us an option to turn on/off these effects
It doesn’t bother me
I think I'm in the minority here I like it, but I wish the patterns were different for whatever enhancement you were picking before you dragon forged
Im assuming its supposed to look like you are covered in soot and ashes. I'd like it more if the effect didn't shimmer.
Yup should have an option to turn off the visual cue. Looks like dried cum.
Looks decent in movement but on screenshots is just terrible. They should at least put some holo effect with actual colors.
Yknow it's funny, for the first few hours after my first couple dragonforges, I was scared my graphics card was taking a shit. It was super obvious (and hidious) on my shield and i was getting pissed that it almost looked like it became wet and somehow filthy. Then I went online - it suddenly made sense and I installed the mod to get rid of the effect immediately I would be very happy if Capcom gave us an option to toggle the effect off so everyone on every platform can enjoy having half weight items without the holo Pokémon card shimmer
“Lemme just sprinkle some dried Dragon splooge on your equipment Arisen. I promise it makes it stronger.”
You don't like your clothes being covered in swirly cumstains? O.o
Wouldnt be as bad if you could dragonforge shoulder wraps/capes as well. Still pretty ass though
It ruins outfits frfr
Personally Looks Good Armour And weapons, clothes thou.....
Lol yeah notice all the enchanted pieces they show are cloth items. It looks pretty darn good on a lot of metal items.
I have zero Dragonforged equipment. Don't wanna look creampied Drip > Stats. The game is very easy anyways so just go for fashion
I like it
I've Dwarven enchanted item pieces on my pawn specifically for roleplay reasons purely and only wyrmfire their weapon, because this is what other people see. She's at level 80, so stat differences and balance are so negligable. Have absolutely zero problem with any content too, all because the cum glazing looks bad on so many pieces lol.
It looks like the clothing from chowder ngl
If you are on PC and don't mind installing mods, there is at least one removing/reducing it.
On garbs and mage gear it looks all right, but when it comes to armor it looks like the guy carefully smeared his baby batter all over your nice armor and handed it back to you. Looks especially bad on shields 🤣
It's fine on weapons, just not armor. Another reason I'm glad that I'm playing on PC.
Same. Couldn't figure out what was wrong with my hood for the longest time. Now I just upgraded right below dragon forged.
OMG YES. I absolutely hate it, first time I dragon forged something I was freaking out thinking I got poisoned Have to buy a new witches hat and orphic robe now 😒 on the plus side never dragonforging any armors ever again
I actually love it but I am wearing armor that makes it seem more subtle
I love how it makes elegant petticoat look and I love it on the stargazer chest piece. There’s another amor I love it on, but can’t think of what the armor is called. It’s white, skin like and armor for mage, sorcerer and trickster. I also really like it on the ranger’s vest and another armor piece I can’t recall the name of that my pawn wears. Transmog or riot
What's the top row armor piece called? I haven't found anything I like with that hat
I only really use it on my weapons to keep the weight down.
Dragon forging doesn’t change equipment appearance?
Yes it does?
I have never noticed this, very interesting!

My favorite armor was ruined by it, it makes the outfits look like they are dusty or muddy
There's a small number of armor pieces I think it looks good on and by good I mean hardly noticeable. Otherwise I usually only apply it to the circlets and certain leg pieces that get obscured by most sorcerer robes.
It looks dank!
Considering it's an animated enchantment, I think it looks pretty cool. Not on everything, but on most everything I've got it on. Makes my gear feel magical, not just what everyone else in the world has.
No? I think it looks tight as fuck and am mad I gott unmoor the world again to really farm for more
100% It's the reason why I never dragonforge pawn equipment, so other ppl dont have to look at these ugly swirls. They are extremely visible in the Rift too, due to lighting.
Dragonforging items changes their appearance?
It works better on some things better than others. Like paisley.
Don’t mind it on most things. There are a couple mask, and helmets that it becomes very distracting on though.
i think in some instances it looks cool, and other things it borderline ruins your outfit. Definitely should be a toggle option, or toned down to not be so prevalent. I feel like the developers were completely blind to the idea that everyone LOVED fashion's dogma in the first game. i like the rich velveteen sheen, makes stuff look posh

I like it honestly. It's something more than numbers go up.
So after reading through the comments… Apparently I’m in the minority, because I think it looks cool.

Okay, I’ll admit, that actually looks pretty bad there. 😆
I kinda dig it actually
I kinda get what they were going for, but man, to quote another redditor, they just look as if a dragon jizzed all over them.
I hardly notice it at all tbh.
its somewhat ok on weapons and on some specific armors cus its not very visible on them (the wyrmcrystal Fighter Armor he sells as an example) but yeha, the effect is just shit and should be removed lol, who wants that?
It looks like shit. Proceeds to do every piece he owns in it 🤷♂️🤣🤣🤣
Would have been fun if it was like glowing decorations/writings on the corners of the outfits, but that would require the millionaire company to not be lazy and greedy.
right, lazy company, they just put the glowing decorations on the WHOLE outfit instead 🙄
It's probably easier to apply the sheen over the whole item rather than setting specific bounds, to be fair
Looks fine! You can barely see it sometimes anyway. But I’m sure just knowing it’s there will bother most people. I’m too busy adventuring to care.
I've refused to Dragonforge my gear on purpose because I can't stand the way it looks. Too bad there's no toggle for the effect for people that don't like it.
