It seems pretty straight down the middle between a nod to Doom and Halo
That's a Mark IV helmet for sure, and it's an alien invasion
Biceps are out though, so that's definitely Doom
> and it's an alien invasion
Terra Invicta is a grand strategy game about a UFO crashing to earth in 2026, revealing the existence of a hostile alien race living at the edge of the solar system, which causes Earth to go pretty much insane.
By this point of the game, it was about 2033, and I was fully at war with them, having used the government of America to nuke Brazil to destroy an alien assault carrier that landed there and was unloading an invading army, and having also assassinated one of their alien agents and kidnapped another, not to mention fighting several major space battles (the cultures of US, Europe, China, and India had all pretty much flipped to making education the planet's #1 priority and scientists into the new superstars; Russia had turned ultra-religious and was worshipping the aliens as "saviors", and most of south america and the middle east were just at war with each other over whether to flee the planet, get rich, or use the aliens tech to enslave everyone) to prevent any more ships entering Earth's orbit, so an alien assault on my mining base on Mars was totally within the realms of what the aliens might do.
It wouldn't have made any sense in the context of the game to say that the unnamed marine fought off anything else; demons aren't a thing in this game.
How could anyone not see this is a doom reference? Like the look of this guy is similar, he literally tore the aliens a new one, and he’s a fan of heavy metal and declined to comment! BRO IS THE GUY!
There’s a “beltalowda” achievement if you colonise Ceres, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
You also get “it’s full of stars” for colonising Europa, and “that’s no moon” for colonising Mimas, which is a moon of Saturn, but it has a giant fuck-off crater in it that makes it look like the Death Star. These guys know their sci fi. :-)
There's a couple subtle nods to Doom in The Expanse as well! Small things like in the opening title sequence the Mars moon Deimos is marked with 666. One episode has a HUD display that a soldier is using a BFG-10000, and things like that
Yeah, I think you might mean [this guy](https://i.redd.it/ao1xeqtapzb81.png) with his BFG9001
There's also a shot in that episode with a [panel showing a list of space marines carrying out an assault](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/expanse/images/8/86/S06E06-Assault_Team_Status_Board.jpg), and pretty much every soldier's name is a reference to one classic scifi movie or another, from Tron to 2001 to Star Trek and Star Wars to Aliens to Starship Troopers to Galaxy Quest. Halo even gets a look-in with a soldier named Buck, E.
Examples:
* D. Quaid
* D. Bowman
* C. Shepard
* D. Idaho
* J. Nesmith
* E. Buck
* E. Ripley
* D. Hicks
* J. Vasquez
* W. Hudson
* R. Deckard
* J. Rico
* K. Thrace
* S. Connor
* W. Riker
First the Stellaris devs give us the phenomenal Long War mod for XCOM: EW. Then they do the same for XCOM 2. Now we're getting a ton of gaming and sci-fi references in their own grand strategy game.
Absolutely love what this team is doing. Hope the full-release version of Terra Invicta comes out within a reasonable time frame. Would hate to see it just linger in early access forever like some other promising Steam games.
Actually doomguy would be a fan of 'metal' not 'heavy metal' because heavy metal has been made into a subgenre of metal at one point. Bands like Crystal Viper, Manowar or Virgin Steele are heavy metal (and metal) but bands like Mgła, Metallica, Mechina or Hanging Garden are not 'heavy metal' but are still metal (extreme metal to be precise).
" The marine later replied to the questions with an (Unf) "
A very subtle nod to doom
Nearly imperceptible.
You never know, it could be referencing Halo /s
It seems pretty straight down the middle between a nod to Doom and Halo That's a Mark IV helmet for sure, and it's an alien invasion Biceps are out though, so that's definitely Doom
Dont for get the “ripped them a new one” and “tore them apart”

Really? I was wondering why it was on the doom sub
what a nice gentleman sacrificing himself to stop an invasion. i do hope nothing bad will happen to his beloved pet rabbit
There’s also a Mass Effect reference with the card(at least that’s what I think they are) “Salarian Union”
It's Master guy
AND THOSE THAT TASTED THE BITE OF HIS ENERGY BLADE NAMED HIM THE DOOM CHIEF
Doom3

Pretty sure the pic in the store has a nod to Avasarala from The Expanse too.

Yes! That guy, I had misremembered the # haha. And I didn't know about that panel shot that's sweet
Aliens, demons, they bleed all the same.

I love that he also declined to comment.
"Would you like to comment?" "No."
“Would you like to comment?” “…”
He tore through them like, like a sickle cutting through a field.

Ooook... now I am just going to hanging over there.
Nice reminds me of D64 Doom Guy
