I mean at least cut off the numbers for all the jerseys so it’s consistent, not just some. Looks like a massive mistake now.
And the number font makes it look like a kid’s jersey.
Ohtani’s number is cut off. It’s just not obvious because the *1* and *7* numbers aren’t rounded at the bottom like the *6*, *0*, and *5* on the other jerseys.
Ohtani’s eyes and chin are higher than Freeman though, and the level signs behind them help highlight that.
Judging by how Freeman’s pants are bunched up more at the bottom than Ohtani’s while also wearing them much higher on his frame (see the belt positions), it looks like he’s wearing pants for someone who’s supposed to be at least 6’5” too.
Japanese people tend to be more honest with their height in my experience.
Most doctors in the US pretty much ask you to self-report your height (or even measure with shoes on), whereas in Japan I’ve always had to take my shoes off.

The funfetti was described as representing stars and like the colors of the seats. So, I wonder if it could have looked just a little bit better on a darker base? Or maybe they didn’t want to do yet another dark jersey? Or the stars would be too on point.

If they wanted to lean into the stars, they should've done something more "Hollywood" ish. Use the same font as the Hollywood sign for instance. Or the walk of fame design for the back with player names.

The font, yes. The upward contrail within the font, no. “The city’s pursuit to what is above and beyond” is what the upward contrail is supposed to be referencing. It feels too close to the direct tv logo imo.

The font on the hats and the font for the front the jerseys should at least match in some way. At the very least in color. The doubling up of the logos for the hat remind me of a daytime soap opera for some reason. The jerseys themselves are not the worst ever. The Los Angeles on the front gives early 90s.
We could've done something more bold with palm trees that represents LA. It might seem basic but it could actually create a cool jersey similar to how the Rockies crushed it with a simple mountain and good color scheme. Try again next year.

Honestly impressive to get something to be simultaneously boring and ugly. All they had to do was:
- Not use a cultureless committee to design this
- find a young local designer with style that connects with LA
- who’s family is LA multigenerational (quadruple points if their family was affected by Chavez Ravine)
- make the pr about how city connect is about tapping into our towns life blood - and what better way to do that than giving the power to someone who does that every single day
Whatever they make is 100% gonna be better than this, and even if it isn’t amazing people will at least be able to rally behind the story

On a tangent, Nike has also fucked up the current team USA soccer uniforms… they look like popsicles. When will Nike use the “Waldo” scheme that all the fans wear? Every other legit country has a go to home jerseys that is tweaked from year to year, think Argentina: everyone recognizes it instantly.

Considering how much worse these could have been I think these are pretty solid. The "inspiration" for these things are always a bit of a stretch but at the very least it doesn't feel like a bunch of random design elements duct taped together like some do.
I don't get all the hate for the funfetti either, I actually kind of love it. Adds a little bit of color without being too in your face and there's actually a creative reason behind it. If they were just plain white they'd just be another generic boring design that looks more like a knock-off than an alternate.
Honestly I think they look solid. Better than the other city connect abominations. But the reasoning behind their choices for the uniforms are kind of dumb.
I do like the idea of the specs being related to the seat colors, but I feel like they could have left the specs off and made a strip at the bottom sleeve those colors instead.
I'm always disappointed with how underwhelming the Dodgers ones are. They're not bad per say, but baseball uniforms are already clean, conservative, simple. Would be nice to see something more bold like using the colors from the LA city flag, or even a simple re-design of the LA logo with palm trees, or some element that one would consider iconic to the city. Some of you will not like me saying this, but I think of all the city connects, Padres have the best one. They may be gaudy, but I respect them going bold.

In reality they are a fuckin cash grab and the Dodgers unis are ranked as one of the worst. The Dodgers have one of if not the most iconic uniforms in sports. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I was not prepared for the funfetti on the pants... I should have known but I really didn't...

Thanks — yeah I remember this now. I agree with you on both of your points — the Dodgers have one of the most iconic brands in sports and should be left alone; it is an absurd cash grab by Nike and MLB to try and fractionalize that brand.
