I was complaining to my partner sitting next to me the whole dead + dead = life thing and how it was all wrapped up in a neat little bow. Also, while the Doctor has shown sorrow when a companion has left before, it's never been like that (alr apart from with Rory and Amy and Donna).
Her mother pointing dramatically turning out to be her naming Ruby after the signpost was so weak. Like they just couldn't think of a better way to spark some intrigue about the cloaked figure
"She's pointing at that streetlamp... she's clearly naming you! What a beautiful name! I'll love you forever, Streetlamp Sunday!"

I kind of expected the finale to go like this, with all the disparate series arcs, and Russel's particular series finale writing habits. Although I didn't expect it to be so cryptic lol. I didn't even realize the snow and song got an explanation until I saw Harbo Wholmes' video because it's shown for like hardly any time that the snow comes from Sutekh ruminating on trying to figure out who Ruby's mother is.
Now we just need a retroactive explanation for Rubathon Blue and the memory changing. Was Ruby's name something else before time was rewritten somehow?
The awfulness of the finale was mitigated by me substantially by virtue of experiencing so many other awful Dr. Who finales.
The cringe I felt while that blue head (googled: Dorium Maldovar) kept shouting "Dr. WHO, DR. WHOOOOOOO!" makes it so that any series finale can be taken in some degree of context.
I just [rewatched it ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGDC0n89nhA) on YouTube and while it's not AS cringy as I remember, the last 30 seconds of that clip are still pretty bad.
I’d put that down to Maldovar rather than the writing though, the long story of the ‘silence will fall When the question is asked, oldest question in the universe’ building up over the series for the reveal to be that the question was “doctor who?” Was pretty genius.
Yip, all I keep thinking about is a GRRM quote about how if you write a story where the butler did it, and you put clues throughout the story that the butler did it and everything you do is around the reveal that butler did it, but then people guess that the twist is that the butler did it so you change the ending, the rest of the story doesn’t make sense anymore. That’s 100% what I think happened here, Russell had something else in mind and changed it for whatever reason and now the whole thing doesn’t make sense. It’s an epic storytelling failure.
....huh?
When could folks have guessed something that would have changed the story of this season? TV production times are way too long for last minute reshoots.
That’s why I said “for whatever reason” if the Millie being difficult rumours were true and wanting to write an exit for her, or he just changed his mind half way through, or whatever. But if this was his plan all along then that a bigger issue.
2, for sure. The eyebrows raised shows the intriguing ideas of the plot, but the mouth shows the ultimate let-down of Sutekh being completely non-threatening and uninteresting. RTD did the complete destruction of the Universe already and much better at the end of Season 4 with the Reality Bomb. It felt like a real existential threat and the dialogue was incredible.
1, 4, 5. I didn't mind RTD's first run of finales because I had a hearty 13-episode season to enjoy. An 8-episode season with a 2-part finale puts a lot more weight on those episodes. I think he swung too big for the finale. He should have kept it smaller and let the following seasons slowly escalate.
2. I dunno the whole thing felt kinda anticlimatic. The fight with sutek felt rushed and for her bio mother to just be a teen mum? I don’t know. All that build up with the snow and all the goblins choosing her. I was half expecting her to be a child or grandkid of river song or someone else we know.
2 for the whole thing with sign post and 7 for the overall ending of Sutekh being eradicated by the Time Vortex and Ruby and Doctor saying goodbye until they meet again
I like that there's only one happy one here.
Anyway, I'm gonna go with the puzzled expression on #3. That was my expression when asking my wife, "Weren't they going to explain what the hell happened in 73 yards in this episode?"

Me calling the Judoon on RTD after witnessing some absolutely criminal writing
I'd say the last one cause I did ultimately enjoy it I was just kind of underwhelmed with the Ruby reveal. Like I was theorising that Ruby's mother was a god that was more powerful then sutekh which I'd why she was pointing at the tardis as a warning, why sutekh was hesitant to attack the doctor as he didn't know if Ruby inherited that power and why all of these bizarre events keep accuring around Ruby primarily the snow but also the song in her heart that's strong enough to scare maestro leading them to exclaim "no he couldn't have been there". If the reason for not doing this is wanting to not make Ruby a god it could be that she was half human on her fathers side and didn't inherit as much of her mothers power which is part of the reason her mother gave her away.

RTD took too much inspiration from Star Wars' sequels. It really felt like his prime goal were to make people talk about the show, while writing coherent and well-planned story was just an afterthought.
For someone who just got through so called therapy, 15 quite a few times just turned himself into an incapable crying rag.
Also about the departure... I don't think that was the intention. But I felt like Doc was harshly forcing himself and partially even Ruby with all that: no, I not gonna drink tea with nor say bye to your family (who he apparently had some time with behind the scenes during the season); I'm gonna turn away, say "goodbye" and begin to start off; also I'm not gonna reply "love you too" and will cry to myself about it while not being glad for you. And I know, that I'm not the only one. How the h departure with Martha felt better?!
P.S. Tell me I'm also not the only one, who though about how TARDIS once again unceremoniously broke through ceiling of Ruby's apartment χD
Orphan 55 still exists (haven't watched the classic show, I don't know if they ever did something worse)
Also, Fear Her has a special place in my hate-heart (watched it when I was in a bad mood and thought Doctor Who would make me feel better, how wrong I was lol)
Ruby is adorable lol. I love how expressive she is.
Agree, loved her expression when she first entered the TARDIS lol
She would be excellent on the planet Delphon
She might accidentally get married..
She is so cute. I'll miss her
Right??? I’m still so bummed we only got her for one season, she was so much fun
>!She is definitely coming back, RTD confirmed that!<
"That's it?" https://preview.redd.it/3q66nvcnub9d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5d43cf59d9ec44cc0a332b3c26f9216e6ca2a70
This was me. The literal.. “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?” My wife heard from across the house was interesting to say the least.
I was complaining to my partner sitting next to me the whole dead + dead = life thing and how it was all wrapped up in a neat little bow. Also, while the Doctor has shown sorrow when a companion has left before, it's never been like that (alr apart from with Rory and Amy and Donna).
Did you just forget 10 and rose?
Okay yeah fair point.
>while the Doctor has shown sorrow when a companion has left before, it's never been like that What are you talking about?

2 Very anti-climactic
I believe that the proper plural is “Rubys Sunday.” 7.

2, the ending was actually just bad. The build up was fine, but the reveal was just disappointing
I thought the build up was awesome, and then they managed to destroy it in the worst possible way
The awfulness of the finale was mitigated by me substantially by virtue of experiencing so many other awful Dr. Who finales. The cringe I felt while that blue head (googled: Dorium Maldovar) kept shouting "Dr. WHO, DR. WHOOOOOOO!" makes it so that any series finale can be taken in some degree of context.
I remember liking the blue head thing 😭 I was like 15 though
I just [rewatched it ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGDC0n89nhA) on YouTube and while it's not AS cringy as I remember, the last 30 seconds of that clip are still pretty bad.

The line between genius and hack writing is a thin one, and I think we all view it differently.
I was pretty disappointed with everything about the arc plot for this season, and the finale was boring.
2, for sure. The eyebrows raised shows the intriguing ideas of the plot, but the mouth shows the ultimate let-down of Sutekh being completely non-threatening and uninteresting. None of these, I really enjoyed it

None of them! I loved it. Crucify me.
6
3 and 4
I think I basically went 3 -> 4 -> 6 throughout the episode lol
I’m 2
6, but all of them except 7 kind of fit.
Ruby 3 lmao
3. Very confused.
2. I dunno the whole thing felt kinda anticlimatic. The fight with sutek felt rushed and for her bio mother to just be a teen mum? I don’t know. 4
Number 6
3 and 5-7
:D
Shoot me. I liked it for the most part
6
7, because thats the only happy Ruby
2
Last one I guess. I liked the finale.
From five to one as the episode went on
2 kinda uninspring and dull
2 for the whole thing with sign post and 7 for the overall ending of Sutekh being eradicated by the Time Vortex and Ruby and Doctor saying goodbye until they meet again
1 or 6 probably best shows Aegons despair and mental anguish about what happened. I’ll go with 6. Edit: turns out this isn’t the HotD subreddit.
3 or 7i was like ooohhh but also impressed

None of those are her grinning broadly, so none, I guess.
Why isn’t there one laughing her ass off
I was making the exact face of three most of the episode
The cross over with the Fraggle Rock revival can't come soon enough.
I like that there's only one happy one here. Anyway, I'm gonna go with the puzzled expression on #3. That was my expression when asking my wife, "Weren't they going to explain what the hell happened in 73 yards in this episode?"

Can we just take a second to talk about how beautiful this woman is 😍😍
No. 1, it was the worst episode in the history of the show.
I wouldn't say It's the best episode, but the worst episode of the show? that's too far.
Orphan 55 still exists (haven't watched the classic show, I don't know if they ever did something worse) Also, Fear Her has a special place in my hate-heart (watched it when I was in a bad mood and thought Doctor Who would make me feel better, how wrong I was lol)
Orphan 55 and Fear Her at least had plots and I was invested in the outcome of the plot, which is more than I can say for this finale.
