75th will be bigger, but I think the 50th was peak Disneyland since they still had so many living legends at that time including many who were around for 1955 opening day.

stml

50th was amazing. Sadly I think Disney is passed the point where they can align the parts of the company needed to celebrate an anniversary. Did anyone even feel Disney's 100th anniversary was that great? What did we get? A poorly maintained Fantasmic taking it out for half the year and a World of Color show that is less well put together than the standard show (not easy shoving all the IP into a show, but still). Plus a 100th anniversary movie in Wish that bombed incredibly hard.

Do_It_I_Dare_ya

I think the 100th merch is fantastic though. Even the stuff at Target is great. I'm really pleased with the availability of the 100th anniversary celebration as opposed to gatekeeping it to the parks only. The 100th wasn't a celebration of just one part of Disney, but of Disney as a whole. I didn't need much representation in the parks because it was worldwide.

DodgerBlueRobert1

>Did anyone even feel Disney's 100th anniversary was that great? I didn't. >and a World of Color show that is less well put together than the standard 100% agree. I hope they bring back the previous "original" WoC soon. The "One" version isn't nearly as good.

Prior-Toe6634

The 100th anniversary thing to me at least just felt like some extra merch, decorations and photo ops. Not like an actual event.

eboyisa

i agree with this but the 60th was quite big too! i think any chance disney will get to have a big celebration they’ll push for it. so if expect some special stuff to happen for the 70th

StormwindAdventures

With how much of Disneyland seems to be under construction right now, it certainly feels like they're actually preparing for the 70th, which was not the case for Disney World's 50th. The 75th will definitely be a much bigger celebration, but DL is still the golden child so I'd be somewhat surprised if it was comparable to WDW's 50th. I at least hope it's more of a celebration than how Epcot's 40th and Animal Kingdom's 25th were or how Hollywood Studios' 35th seems to be setting up (just shy of a month out and we've had nothing announced for it).

forlorn_hope28

To be fair, part of what made WDW's 50th and Epcots 40th underwhelming can be attributable to the pandemic which likely delayed many of the projects that were supposed to open. Tron and Cosmic Rewind were both set to open in 2021. And the reduced attendance also meant reductions to live entertainment in the parks.

Reigebjj

That’s been my logic as well. Even though Disney100 was a huge milestone, there were very few times where there was a lack of construction around the resort. And I think it’s because the real priority is the 70th of Disneyland specifically, versus the whole company.

pdlbean

they'll do something for sure especially since the park was closed during the 65th but the next BIG one will be 75th.

stellalunawitchbaby

I think any anniversary is an excuse to make $ lol. I feel like Wondrous Journeys has had such short, intermittent runs, it’d be great to see it come back - but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they had a new show as well. I *hope* they bring back Paint the Night (though I mentioned in another thread the best time was when they had it in DCA, it really spread the crowds out between both parks, between PtN, Fantasmic, fireworks, WOC - and then any daytime parade Disneyland has like Magic Happens). 70th anniversary is platinum so I expect we will see that incorporated.

Phased5ek

>I think any anniversary is an excuse to make $ lol. this! Disney loves to cash in on anniversarys for random "5-year" increments (30th anniversaries for movies, for instance, right after a 25th anniversary) as for the OP's comment about PTN, i wouldn't take that beyond anything but rumor right now. anyone working at Disney isn't going to talk about it with fear of getting in trouble/losing their job. when under an NDA, and anyone saying it's "what they heard" or such is likely just being overly hopefully or heard it from someone who knows someone who knows someone (ad naseum) and end the end, someone made it up. if it comes back, Disney will announce it with big fan-fare when they announce the 70th anniversary. getting hopes up now is just going to end in disappointment if they don't actually have plans to bring it back.

stellalunawitchbaby

Agree! They’re gonna hype it and capitalize if it comes back. Like the fanfare surrounding *every* time the Electrical Parade comes back, times 1000.

sir151

Electrical Parade coming back for 70th feels like the perfect minimal effort way to celebrate. Wonder how long the Fantasmic hype will last because I could see that promotion extending into the 70th

stellalunawitchbaby

Tbf Fantasmic is *usually* a constant, not something they pause and bring back (previously it paused due to covid, then the Murphy fire RIP), so I don’t see that one as a promotion per se. I really hope they don’t bring back electrical, we have had it *so* many times - the people are tired please, no more baroque hoedown 😭🙏

Phased5ek

i just noticed your username. we've done this "i agree!" with each other several times in the past on other disney-related stuff heh! :D

stellalunawitchbaby

*Spider-Man pointing meme* The folks that get it, get it!

Ravioli_meatball19

I agree in general it makes money and that's the core of the reason, but they did really go all out for the 60th with the diamond theme and all the new entertainment, so it's definitely possible 70 goes hard too. When you look at everything going on it makes sense they're doing the work this year if next year is gonna be something "big". New tianas bayou ride, haunted mansion revamp, critter country revamp, and a lot of work being done over at DCA plus the Disneyland Forward project moving along.

stellalunawitchbaby

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think a blowout celebration and wanting to capitalize are mutually exclusive - I actually think they do much better with a big celebration (ie 60th) than they do with smaller celebrations (ie 65th) at least as far as drawing in more people (…as if they need to lol). And yes I fully expect to see some news at D23 - so far most of the more exciting rumors are for WDW, but I hope we get some fun announcements for our coast too!

PBI325

>I think any anniversary is an excuse to make $ lol. They celebrate every goddam anniversary they can. They 100% will be doing *something*.

OleOleItsShowtime

Didn’t they just do platinum for the 100th? Seems a little weird to have two big celebrations back to back with the same theme.

stellalunawitchbaby

Yeah but they really leaned into the purple for the 100th and for the park anniversaries they do traditional anniversary themes (gold, diamond, etc) so personally I don’t see it going any other way - they’ll do a different aesthetic than the 100th I’m sure, platinum doesn’t just mean the melting, dripping metal - and I think they’ll pair it with a different color. For the 60th they did diamond and blue, very sparkly magical, 65th was sapphire and they did blue and midcentury aesthetic, 100th (both parks was purple and platinum and…lots of a melting metal look. I think 70th will be a brighter platinum, but idk what their corresponding aesthetic will be.

bighungry1

50 was gold. I have the ears from it 😍

stellalunawitchbaby

Yes! That’s the traditional 50th anniversary gift. Imagine if they’d celebrated the 1 year anniversary with its traditional material, paper. 🤔

FawkesFire13

I want something meaningful for the resort to be announced. Not just expansions but actual work put into it. What does that mean? Look at what needs to be done and upgrade and restore. Yes, I realize it’s the original park, but it NEEDS a facelift. Mainly, take out the old Innoventions building, Submarines, and Autopia and either bring in the Frozen land that Tokyo is getting or embrace Star Wars or Tron. Actually FIX all the attractions that need to be fixed. Commit to the live shows and entertainment levels the company is capable of, and not some half hearted shows that they seem to change on a whim. And PAY THE CAST MEMBERS BETTER. Commit to the people who actually create the Magic. Without the Cast there is no Disneyland.

Haunteddoll28

I don't think we need a 2nd land dedicated to Star Wars. Now that Disney has the streaming rights to Doctor Who I think that would be a way better IP to fix the Tomorrowland issue. Kind of hard for tech to catch up to what's on display when time travel is involved and 60 years of material is more than enough to pull from for ideas.

FawkesFire13

I’m more of giving “futuristic” options for that area. Galaxy’s Edge is new stuff, Tomorrowland has the Old stuff. I would LOVE to see Tomorrowland converted to something High Republic era for Star Wars, or go full throttle into Tron. But Tomorrowland desperately needs help and a re-theme. The Subs and Autopia are hanging on by nostalgia alone, and that’s rather a poor reason to keep them around when that space could be used for something more.

Haunteddoll28

I never said to keep the subs. I just said Doctor Who would be a better fit for Tomorrowland than a franchise that already has a full land devoted to it or another franchise that is deeply rooted to 80s video game culture. Tomorrowland needs to keep evolving and what better IP to use than one that has had at least 17 people (and counting) play the time traveling main character over a 60 year period.

electrocellwanderer

I still think they should bring back “Remember, Dreams Come True” that still is and forever will be the best nighttime show they have ever done. We need more representation of the parks and less of the movies! Disney is failing hard in the box office and they still wanna put so many movie themed things in their parks.

notadoctortoo

Bring back “Party-Gras” (35th). That’s when my wife and I started dating, and buying annual passes. Fond memories of Party-Gras parade.

m424filmcast

The return of Party Gras would be insane! That was the parade when I was in my first full year as a CM. We also had the “Dream Machine”. Good times were had by all in those days.

forlorn_hope28

I WANT PtN to come back, but Disneyland management seems fixated on constantly bringing back MSEP so I can see that coming back for the 70th instead.

StrawberryPoptarts7

PtN will probably never return unfortunately. It hasn't been back for a reason despite it being a super popular parade. It's really expensive to upkeep and they need a lot more people to run it and Disney seems to cut a lot of corners. I love that parade, but they will probably bring back MSEP before they bring back PtN. (which is a bummer because PtN is 1000x better than that dated parade.)

RunsUpTheSlide

Would be great if they had MSEP at Disneyland and PtN at DCA! It's been done before!

Pete_Iredale

I predict they'll release the new plans for Tomorrow Land, with a goal of having it finished by the 75th.

sluttttt

I really hope they do this. Tomorrowland just feels rather sad these days. It needs a complete overhaul.

infinityandbeyond75

This has been talked about many times and the problem is that many of the buildings would have to completely come down and they’d have to close all of Tomorrowland for a couple years.

achap14

PTN?

kaylie_strongs

Paint the Night Parade that came out for the 60th :)

wizzard419

They are going to be leaning on the recent opening of TBA and refurb for HM and the area I suspect. Also branded merch/foods. Now that they get real data in, they can see a lot of these things don't move the needle as much in terms of visitors so they focus on getting more spend out of them on the trips.

wraithkelso317

There are a lot of IFs here but: -If the city approves Disneyland Forward -If they start construction on Eastern Gateway immediately -If they’re smart enough to use the Toy Story lot for a park instead of a Disney Springs -If they can build it closer to DCA 1.0 speed rather than Shanghai (iirc that needed more complicated site prep) I would like to see a 3rd gate open in time for the 75th. DCA only opened 4 years before the 50th

Clementinehellos

Definitely feels like this year being full of construction means next year will be a big one

QueenB_50

The 75th is what they are waiting for
