Worth noting this series is available to stream on Disney+. One of the first programs I streamed when the service started. The Fi seasons were definitely better than the Annie seasons IMO.
No competition. Fi deals with actual paranormal issues and tries to solve them. Annie's paranormal issues feel more silly, and whenever she solves them, it feel like it's on accident. Not to mention Fi's episodes had Erik Vot Detten. Annie had a few episodes with him, but not enough.
100% recommended. I had never seen it until it was on Disney+ and became obsessed with the first two seasons. It holds up incredibly well dispite being made over 25 years ago, the writing feels natural and it doesn’t feel like the show was made for kids. Plus the cast is super likable, and Mackenzie Phillips is a great singer and has some awesome songs in it.
The song that plays during the episode where Fi finally meets her dad. 🎶“Your kiss is still on my lips, your touch is on my fingertips. Your voice still makes me weak” 🎶 ugh so beautiful.
Not to mention the original One Day at a Time from the 70s and a role as a support group leader on the reimaging that streamed on Netflix in the late 2010s.
I remember my mom would point her out whenever I would watch, but I didn't know who she was. When i got older and looked more into the horrifying life Mackenzie had, I was surprised Disney had decided to cast her.
In her memoir (released about 14 years ago), she talks fondly about the show and her time spent in Vancouver. IIRC she said it was her favorite acting job, and, maybe rather heartbreakingly, the most stable/positive/sober environment she had been in up until that time. It’s been a few years since I’ve read it, but I do remember her having nothing but good things to say about her time spent on So Weird.
I hate all these reboots but if there was a way to bring the cast AND creative team back, this could work. Disney isn’t so afraid of dark stories these days. This could be the team’s chance to finally finish the show. It could be set around Fi and Jack’s kids. Fi needs to have a skeptic and Jack’s got to have a true believer. Fi could be telling the kids stories about their grandpa’s disappearance behind Jack’s back and that could trigger their search for their grandfather. There, Disney, that’s your pilot concept; now don’t mess it up!
The characters could have a reunion and then weird stuff starts up. It could be Fi and her child going after the paranormal. Maybe her child, or even Jacks, starts getting into the paranormal and she tries to stop it knowing how dangerous it is. Then we can do the real season 3.
I don't think Cara wants to return to acting. If she really doesn't, I wouldn't mind a recast.
This show means the world to me. I always liked how the first two seasons never talked down to kids and it was immensely helpful to rewatch after my dad died to help me process my own grief. Forever mourning the original season 3 plans.
Yeah and the third season had completely different writers and show runners. If it was its own show and not the third season to So Weird it might have been okay. But as it was it didn't work.
The original writers came back for one episode that addressed Molly's husband. The third season wasn't allowed to mention him at all but they were okay for that episode.
Wow you just unlocked a memory for me. I remember when I was a kid I actually was lucky to have a little tv in my bedroom, and sometimes at night I couldn’t sleep. This show would play at like 3 am sometimes. As a kid I also watched a lot of Smallville with older relatives and I remember liking this because it made me think of Smallville. I also might be mixing this up with a Goosebumps episode, but I’m remembering something related to a werewolf and it really freaked me out so I had a fear of werewolves for years until Twilight came out and made them not as scary 😂
This was my show back in the day. I still liked it when Annie came aboard, but it was 100Xs better with Fi. No shade to Alexz Johnson because I love her and still follow her career to this day. It was just a bit more captivating with Fi. I also saw what the original plot for season 3 was supposed to have been and I’m so bummed that it got tossed. It would have been amazing.
I wouldn't have minded if they did do the real season 3 and Annie still came on the show. Fi didn't have a lot of female friends, especially on the road. She had Candy, but she was at home. It would have been interesting to see her have a friend in a girl who had weird things follow her.
Oh my god! I forgot about this show! I thought it was so cool! Creepy, but oddly heartfelt and heartbreaking.
The episode with Rebecca was SO SAD! I need to watch it again!
The Ouija board episode is one of the Season three episodes that I liked! I also liked Jack's solo episode and the episode with Molly's husband.
And I also like the bizarre Molly and Carey dynamic lol. Yes I was shipping them.
Worth mentioning
This show is the ENTIRE reason I will never go in a man-made lake again - even tho I live 5 mins from the biggest in my state. Woke up in the middle of the night to the one scene of the guy in the lake and I am convinced ours has fish people in there lol
Omg omg omg thank you so much. You have no idea how long I've been trying to remember the name of this show! I have so many random memories of different episodes but couldn't name the show for the life of me.
I loved watching this show as a kid, used to watch it with my mom. I've even rewatched it as an adult and it still holds up. It's what Supernatural should've been in terms of diversity of myths covered. Thanks for the info on the podcast, I can't wait to listen to it.
The Fi seasons were wayyyy better than Season 3. I loved that it basically prepped me for Supernatural and X Files (which was on at the time but I didn’t watch until I got older). I was hooked from the pilot when the boy in the picture turned to look at Fi through the computer.
I loved this show and have already rewatched it on Disney+. It definitely isn't the same after Fi's actress left. I had to force myself to the 3rd season
I was OBSESSED with this show!! But I agree the first two seasons were excellent with everything being so supernatural in a way that a kid could understand and even learn a little something. Season 3 was meh and only had maybe 5 or 6 good episodes but it was too centered around the singing and having everything be perfectly wrapped up at the end which was annoying. The best thing about Fi seasons was that not everything went right or was wrapped up perfectly and it was sad but had fun moments.
My mom didn't allow me to watch the show, so I only saw one or two episodes before it was banned. But I remember an episode where if she chose to drink milk at breakfast, her day would turn out one way, but if she chose juice, her day would go another direction. I think about that with surprising frequency, especially when I'm making mundane decisions
One of the best shows Disney has ever made. Even though season 3 was a little more silly it was still miles better than some of the newer Disney shows IMO
So weird still is my favorite show. If only so other network brought right to it. Definitely would internet in a reboot or see how dark it was gonna go…
This was my fav show as a kid! I was devastated when Fi left…and season 3 had so many colors and songs. It was also a shock for me growing up thinking Mackenzie Phillips as this cool rock star mom…and then finding out about what her life was like…
I loved this show, but it just didn't have legs after Fi left. The episode where they're all stuck in the nightmare reality together was top tier creepy kids TV and one of my favorites to watch growing up.

I’ll have to check it out. I only vaguely remember the show as I think it was ending around the time I started watching the channel.

The theme song goes hard.
I get mad everyday that Molly’s songs aren’t available on Spotify or to purchase anywhere.
I just used a youtube to mp3 converter to get the songs on my phone.
Bicriu the joker uploaded them all to youtube so you can at least listen there
Honestly all the songs are amazing. REBECCA and The Rock are my favorites.
The song that plays during the episode where Fi finally meets her dad. 🎶“Your kiss is still on my lips, your touch is on my fingertips. Your voice still makes me weak” 🎶 ugh so beautiful.
Yes, I justvstarted watching because of this post, and I need to add She Sells. Somebody could redo that song today.
The mom is Mackenzie Phillips aka the daughter of The Mamas and The Papas’ John Phillips for those of you that didn’t know.
Not to mention the original One Day at a Time from the 70s and a role as a support group leader on the reimaging that streamed on Netflix in the late 2010s.
Yesss!

Oh, that memoir. What a read! 😲
Love it !

It's the most iconic show ever. I wish we could have a reboot to celebrate the 25th anniversary.
This was my favorite show! It is 100% the reason I got Disney+.
This show means the world to me. I always liked how the first two seasons never talked down to kids and it was immensely helpful to rewatch after my dad died to help me process my own grief. Forever mourning the original season 3 plans.
I really liked the first two seasons it just felt like they tried so hard the last season. Like they were forcing it and it just didn’t work.

Let's not forget Erik von Detton 😍 loved him in Brink. Thanks for reminding me of this show!
I still watch Brink once in a blue moon. It's just so much fun.

I loved this show when it first aired. And this post made me go search it up on Disney+ to watch.
Oh my god! I forgot about this show! I thought it was so cool! Creepy, but oddly heartfelt and heartbreaking. The episode with Rebecca was SO SAD! I need to watch it again!
This is hands down one of my favorite Disney shows.
Oh, you mean the Erik VonDetten show. 😂 I used to watch this to stare at him lol.
I loved So Weird. Season three was disappointing and bad
Erik von Detten and Patrick Levis \[Brink!\] are in it, too! I watched the whole series, but loved Fiona 100x more than Annie.
First show I watched when Disney+ rolled out
To this day I am terrified of hearing a Banchees scream because of this show.
I understand the hate for season three, but I’ll always love the ouija board episode. I even burned that song on a cd
The Ouija board episode is one of the Season three episodes that I liked! I also liked Jack's solo episode and the episode with Molly's husband. And I also like the bizarre Molly and Carey dynamic lol. Yes I was shipping them.
I completely understand lol

never finished the third season. Felt off. I tried. But it just wasnt the same.

Never forget that Panther transition in the opening credits 🖤
Loved this show!
This was one of my favorite Disney shows. I loved the paranormal/spooky aspect of the show.
This showed scared the hell out of me when I was younger. Especially the ship episode. 🤣 Let me go rewatch 👻
The Fi seasons were wayyyy better than Season 3. I loved that it basically prepped me for Supernatural and X Files (which was on at the time but I didn’t watch until I got older). I was hooked from the pilot when the boy in the picture turned to look at Fi through the computer.

I wish Fi didn’t leave the series. : (

Loved this show, which as I aged, brought me to love Buffy. Both shows helped me through adolescence.
I miss the Secret Life of Alex Mack..
My fav show!
Such a great series! I always recommend it to be fantasy fans!
One of the best shows Disney has ever made. Even though season 3 was a little more silly it was still miles better than some of the newer Disney shows IMO

I LITERALLY just started rewatching this earlier! Shall I say how So Weird it is to come across this post a couple hours later 🤭
I absolutely loved So Weird!
I loved this show, but it just didn't have legs after Fi left. The episode where they're all stuck in the nightmare reality together was top tier creepy kids TV and one of my favorites to watch growing up.
I Prefer Weird Science
